What an interesting place! You were brave to go by yourself the first time. With all those steps, I can imagine it would be easy to get turned around. Good video!
I recall biking a ridge overlooking that place in the 90s and my friend briefly mentioning something about the Nazi compound "down there" but I had no idea of the full history. I don't think it was open to the public then but I could be mistaken on that. Now I wish I'd have went down to check it out.
The one thing I miss about California was it's scenic beauty, but especially its hiking trails. So many amazing hiking trails, and so many places to explore. There's a compound, and even some old mining equipmentment left behind. The trail is called Sapphire trails, in Alta Loma California.
Thanks for the intriguing story! Why do those Los Angeles people feel like they need to tag the hiking trails? I don't see this happening near as much in other areas.
There's around 10 million people living not far away from there and it only takes a small percentage of those to produce a huge amount of graffiti. I suspect most Angelinos are against such behavior but, unfortunately, it's almost impossible to control.
Some friends of mine regularly go out into the Chatsworth hiking areas (very close to the place in this video) and re-paint the rocks back to a rock color. They're volunteers and have the city's approval.
Is any of that trail accessible by mountain bike? We love your videos. We did the Anza Borrego sculptures, last winter, on our bikes. Had a great reat time!
Why was there going to be a Nazi Compound in America before we entered the war? Could you explain more if possible? I'm confused, and rather alarmed I never heard of this, I research this time a lot. Thank you sooooo much for your channel, its so neat. Your poor feet with those steps!!! 📉
There wasn’t. Some Nazi-supporting people built it because they expected the Nazis to win the war. If they had won the war, these people thought the Nazis would need a place to begin their US operations. Essentially, they were foolishly hopeful. They wanted to be a “teacher’s pet” and be commended by Hitler and/or his upper administration.
I get super annoyed by graffiti (especially if it’s poorly done) but I wonder if ancient peoples got annoyed by people who created what we now call petroglyphs ha ha ha!
Maybe people are more comfortable defacing a place associated with freaking Nazis that isn't rendered sacred by the blood of their victims or Allied soldiers.
Tom Explores LA also has a good segment on this property with a view how this location looked like almost a decade ago

Thanks for the suggestion, will have to check it out!
I am just sitting watching you and those stairs. I still got winded. nice job. Love your content
haha I tried to show how steep they are in the video but it never fully translates haha
What a great video, thank you for making the update. It's such a shame the gate was no longer there but you were lucky enough to see it.
I did this hike last year and went down the stairs first. Definitely need to go back and do the stairs last.
Dig your content Josh...hope you and your family have a beautiful Thanksgiving! The graffiti in LA is abhorrent...peace from San Diego
Thanks for the intriguing story!

I don't know why there is so much graffiti on some of these trails either, it is a bummer

very sad to see this. why would people do this, so disrespectful. 😢
Have a happy Thanksgiving Day to you Josh and your family.
Super interesting place to visit. I worked at a summer camp and this was a weekly visit. Super cool place to chill and explore
A very interesting and adventurous hike in the woods.
Yea it is interesting and adventurous for sure!
Seriously who tags up trees, especially Oak Trees?
I know right?
Mexicans
Thank you for sharing. That's a neat historic place I had not heard of.
Glad you enjoyed it

Yes the trail is accessible by mountain bike, i went today and encountered several people biking through the trail
7:01-7:04 not sure if that was your friend down there on the left side of the power house on the trees but was a bit creepy at first

@@jyzo thank you so much for the explanation. That made perfect sense.
Stairs? Looks more like an extension ladder to me! Thanks for sharing this.
Took this same route yesterday !
Going to try and do this! Quintessential LA activity. Nature and decay lol
Thank you for this video. Wasn’t there some bunkers that overlooked the ocean?
He's back !!!
One of the MANY places like this in the Canyons/“Parks” between 101 and the 1 /Coast. Topanga has the most insane history though…
Excellent video
Waw! How weird!! But interesting. Thanks.
The chimney thing looked like a crematorium... Looked long enough to take a coffin...
Cool. That's close to Manson's caves, where I live
No. I don't live in the caves.
We're so proud of our Californian inspired graffiti? Tagging rocks and the concrete? What a shame.
Thanks for the tour so I don't have to do it!
I'm not 💯 sure but That chimney looking thing may be a old trash burner.
Or -- in view of the couple's political philosophy and purpose -- a crematorium retort.
Yea that is a good point, it could be a trash burner
What is a "powerhouse"
power station. electrical plant
Thank you for the vid
Intriguing place, the graffiti on rocks and trees is a nono for me.
Going there Monday
That would be incredibly cool when it was actually standing.
5:56 a crematorium.
Would you ever be interested in linking up with some fellow UA-camrs? We are on the beginner side of things but… 🤷♂️🤙

haha I wonder?
Sooooooo 😎😎😎!!
