My wife and I did this hike several times back in the 90s. Sad to hear that it has been demolished... especially the ornate gateway. Glad you guys got some footage of it before it was gone!
I hiked out yesterday. The front gate is gone, the barn is gone and the machine house is boarded up. When I first went to this place over 10 years ago there was an old bomb shelter as well (that's now gone too). Still fun to explore. You can take the stone steps all the way down, still see the water tower, the machine room, and the gardens. There's also another burnt out structure nearby with an old chimney and bath and a wrecked out truck on the connecting fire road.
MrThree1zero fuel tank was there, random chimney by the river, and the home. However the house is boarded up. Stable is gone. Still a cool trail to explore. I posted pic on my instagram: june_bot
The book, Weird Scenes Inside The Canyon -David McGowan, brought me to you guys. As Rustic Canyon is very close to The Spahn Movie Ranch. Even though it’s now 2020 & the structure is long gone, it’s still fascinating to see what McGowan was describing in his book. So, thank you for your video. It’s very interesting
Just stumbled upon you two and I’m really enjoying the content you’re sharing! I have no doubt, if you keep this up you’ll be getting your gold play button soon!! Wishing you two nothing, but the best!! Cheers and Godspeed...
This was my favorite hike in LA... it's crazy how much history is behind it, yet so few people knew it was even there... Such a disappointment that they had to tear down such a great part of the past. I never got to go into the barn so I'm glad I got to see it through this video
+Tim Gilmour I'm glad we were able to share the barn with you. We really thought they'd at least preserve the main gate. Everything else we're about to show you in the coming weeks is still standing so stay tuned and thank you for watching!
I really love this episode. It's mysterious, thought-provoking, and FUN. What an interesting place, and the history is amazing. I am so glad that Oddity Odysseys did a segment on Murphy's Ranch. I feel like I learning some important information here and was entertained at the same time. Bravo! Keep 'em coming!
+BrillBlonde Thank you for your encouragement! We've heard lots of positive feedback from hikers who appreciated the tidbit of information about the demolition. Hopefully what we show you next will be intact for a long time. :)
Found your channel this morning and am really enjoying your productions. You two play off each other very well and you've obviously done your homework prior to your trips as the narration is very well done. I enjoy going places and seeing things with a bit of interesting back story. Where possible, I like to recreate historic photos for my own enjoyment to create a 'then and now' experience. Thanks so much for sharing your hobby, passion etc. for exploring with the rest of us.
+Exploring With Steve Thank you! That means a lot coming from a seasoned explorer such as yourself. We have two episodes left this season, but we're definitely working on breaking new ground for season two. Have a great week :)
Awesome video! You guys got some great shots. I think it's partially still standing. You can do a 5ish mile hike starting on Inspiration Loop in Will Rogers, go onto Backbone Trail which takes you into Topanga State Park and then connect to Murphy Ranch to end the hike!
I love your videos I just wish your videos were longer than what they are now because about the time we really get into the video it's over needs to be longer. Keep up the good work.
I'm reading: "Weird Scenes Inside the Canyon" and it mentioned this place when it talked about Charles Manson. So I search youtube and found this video. It's a good read too by the way.
Doug0101 indeed, it’s quite obliterating at times. Doug, I don’t always know what to make of it. Plus, his cynical side can get a bit exasperating at times, dint you think ?
@@mattigrooves7843 "Programmed to Kill" is David McGowan's book previous to "Weird Scenes In Laurel Canyon". It explores the CIA's Mk Ultra program. You'll see him mention it a few times as you read further.
Hey! I went here today and like some have said, the power house is still intact but boarded up. Sadly, the barn has fallen into utter ruin. It's no longer a building, just a pile of wood and rubble.
Love it guys....Then think of the McCarthy Witch Hunt that went on out there..All the blacklisted "Reds".....Disney...J Edgar.....Oh the humanity!!!!!!
Since the pandemic, I have been passing time watching a lot of UA-cam videos, with WW 2 videos being among my favorites, including Hitler's home movies taken by Eva Braun at Berchtesgaden, the horrors of Stalin, etc. So this one was an unexpected treat. Nazis! Also, I believe that some of the music for this video is the same as that used for the series Criminally Listed. Pardon me as I continue to go stir-crazy.
Hey great episode, I wrote the story about the demolition a while back in January under "Murphy Ranch Demolition Date". Glad you got the chance to visit, there are still unknown buildings you haven't checked out deeper in Rustic Canyon, I have an article on my site if you are interested. Good luck.
Quit a few structures are still up right? The City did not demolish all the structures. Most just boarded up, and even heard the horse stable is still up as of summer of 2017.
+Cryptid Hunter Thanks for watching! We're discussing branching out of CA for season 2, so if we're in your area that would be a great team effort! And if you're ever out here, let us know at oddityodysseys@gmail.com Have a great weekend :)
It is truly amazing how disrespectful Americans are and how successful they are at destroying things. From abandoned ranches to any public transit system the creep of squalor is amazing. You guys I would not include as disrespectful. So this wasn’t pointing at you. Thanks for the videos.
We filmed this episode over two years ago. We did do an update video later on explaining it's current condition. Certainly lucked out that we went when we did!

Just found your channel. You guys are very, very good.
It’s obvious that a lot of work went into this video.
Kinda cool........LOVE the front gate....I really hope they saved it and just didn't toss it in a dumpster

I'm glad you guys look normal, another group looked like the rejected suicide squad wannabes. Yours has style.
Looks like a Manson family hide out😀
8 years later, I show up to look at this :(

I went last Saturday and some of the buildings are gone and you can’t even go inside of the house anymore. The city did destroy most of it.

I wonder if there are old videos to show what It looked like.. just curious
Still there in 2022.

Even with the Nazi connection, I can't say I'm sad to hear the place was being demolished.
I was lucky enough to visit the ranch before they tore it down

Never understood the compulsion people have to mess up everything with graffiti. IMHO one of the worst characteristics of the human race.
Whats your fake video game name again?
worst in the US by far. Having to fly for work over 43 years got to see our country. Also the most with the homeless and illegals................
Sorry to tell you this, but I don't play video games.
By people who never had a checking account. They can't sign a check with a spray can.
@@MegaBait1616Seriously all those illegals that crossed the Atlantic need to gtfo .
is everything destroyed now? i want to visit this summer. i need to know lol
no, this place is still up
It’s all still there smh half of the barn is collapsed though and the main house is boarded it so you can go inside anymore

Leann McElhaney torn it down?
Is it destroyed Rn ? In 2017 does anyone know ?
no
2016?

Quit a few of the buildings are boarded up, correct? The City did not demolish most of the building, is that your saw?
Would still love the show even if she wasn't so cute and he wasn't so corny lol great show!
20,000 gallons of fuel...Boomba!
You should really look up the LA city and county knife laws before a cop with nothing better to do ruins your day. Cool video.
