Not sure if someone mentioned it yet, but the greenish vein you saw in the mine is a copper silicate, likely, chrysocolla, with some azurite and/or malachite mix. Dad is a geologist and loves this stuff. Happy to help with geology / rock questions anytime (or at least as best as he can via pictures and videos). Thanks for another great video :)

Was just out in Joshua Tree about 2 weeks ago. Explored the mines also about 15 years ago. There are so many places in Joshua Tree that you can get away from people Also live in southern Ca and have explored a few of the places you have highlighted Thanks for your efforts it is a joy to watch and congratulations on the twins
Thanks for the congrats, it has been a crazy ride having twins already haha. That's awesome you have explored the area as well and I agree Joshua Tree is pretty easy to get away from people if you are not on the main trails
This is so cool! You should really try overlanding/off roading it can be really fun and have some awesome camping opportunity. Also just wanted to say I love your wide shots! They are so unique!
Would love to see more off roading videos with Brian and Cody. I think it would be neat just to see the above ground parts of the mine even, the old buildings. I love looking at rocks...I find on the ground. The more I go to the desert the more I want a 4x4, with some cool lights for night driving, to go explore. I did not grow up doing that stuff, so its a new kind of exploring for me.
“I’m definitely going #2” 😂😂. I just bought an AWD vehicle recently so I would definitely be stoked to see more off roading material in So-Cal if it comes along. Sweet video BTW, Looks like a fun adventure, but also really scary!!
We just got done trapesing around the deserts of California/Nevada/Arizona. There were a lot of places to off-road. I've been thinking about wanting to go that route of exploring. I really enjoy your videos. ~Lucy
Thank you for including the disclaimer with the mine exploration. Particularly about the toxic gas. A lot of people don’t realize how dangerous it can be. Did you happen to take an air monitor/toxic gas sensor? If not, I think it would be a good idea in the future. Great video with awesome footage!
Great video man. Awesome place to explore. A lift and little larger tire and you could drive through most of that trail. But it is never a good idea to go out solo. A buddy of mine blew 3 tires heading back from Brooklyn mine on a solo trip and had to hike out until he could get cel reception. 4hrs. Stay safe and happy trails 👣
Awesome video keep in mind to walk wide back in the days of mining those mines they would follow the veins of gold where ever they went. If it went straight down they would follow it till it stop and cover that hole with wood and years later your walking on what you believe is soild ground when in fact it's a few scraps od wood with dirt and rocks over the top. And yes there's been a few rescues and deaths. Be safe 🙏
Glad to see more of my neck of the woods in your videos.. may I suggest El Campanario for lunch they have the best food...indio ca has a lot of hiking trails... hope to see more
Glad to see another great video from you. Yea them cabins are meant for overnights and are kept up by volunteers. The most popular and well used cabins will have a flag you raise up a pole to indicate the cabin is in use. I go to Las Vegas to visit my bro and explore lots of mines. Wouldn’t mind to stay in one of them cabins
@@californiathroughmylens their are lots of them cabins on BLM lands in the southwest especially round the mining areas Not sure if all cabins have the flags
Yea it was awesome! I linked to your video in the pinned comment as well. You for sure need to have TKB Bakery next time, it was voted the best restaurant in America a few years ago by yelp!
Thanks for taking us along. Question, when did people stop mining here? I know Southern CA has a long history of mining, just wondering when the mining stopped. 50 years ago? the structures that survived indicate something like that.
Awesome video! Cave number 2 was giving me horror movie vibes with the lightning. Any plans of off roading down at the Imperial Sand Dunes? Glamis is a corner of California alot of people don't know about. Picacho State Recreation Area is a fun offloading area that gives you the bonus of the Colorado River. Speaking of, Boating on the Colorado River out of Blythe or Needles is another area. Such an important resource for everyone living in Southern California too. 3 Wildlife Refuges Between Needles and Yuma: Havasu, Cibola and Imperial. Anyways! Thanks for the videos as always!
We went there today and had trouble finding the first 2 mines, we didn’t find them. We found the mine that was only 20’ deep. From the house with the graffiti did you stay in the canyon and go around the mountain towards the house with the duckie? We hiked up the hill and looked down at the duckie house.
Same here. 4runner with a spare, compressor, shovel, and some discretion. Love soloing out here. We always leave our entry and exit point locations and general plans with our family before we leave, check in with them before losing signal off of HWY 62, and call them immediately after getting back into signal range. It's a very rough overlanding area in spots, but skill and discretion will serve you well. I wouldn't do this area in the summer. TOO HOT for sure.
@@gunnyh3837 Good for you brother. I used to have no heartburn with heading out on my own but I was a lot younger. Knowing what I know now I realize that there are too many variables and you can’t prepare for them all. It’s not a problem, until it is. But hey, you gotta do what you gotta do. Be safe and enjoy

Usually we going to see the fireball at Yosemite my husband and teenagers follow you instructions,,thank you we are so exacting:)
I hope you are able to see it!
Death Valley is huge and has sooooo many cool shelters scattered around. Great job, thanks! 🤠

Getting lost is part of the fun. LOL. I've explored that area many times with other members of out 4X4 club. LOTS of interesting stuff back there.
haha I am sure that is true if you do it often! I would love to explore more back there for sure

Awesome video as always, Josh. Thanks for highlighting another cool area to add to my list!
You bet! Thanks for the comment
I don’t own a four wheel drive so I will just enjoy your video. It looks interesting, yet scary. Thanks for sharing your experience.

I cant believe those mines are left open like that especially those deep vertical ones, they usually get blocked and filled in over here in the UK
That's how God sorts out the weak 🤔

Hey j its aaron your old downstares nebor from parkside village apartments . Love the vids dude
This is crazy man
Have you done shark fin cove before? I saw a large mine there, but didn’t have the gear to explore it.

Those mine videos made me feel claustrophobic

I'd like to take my Subaru Outback out there, but I'd probably need skid plates and to lift it. Thanks for the video.
haha yea the clearance is the main issue out there, lots of ruts and big rocks
the dale is some sandy stuff i have gone in off gold crown rd. there is placer gold claims all over that place.
haha yea there is some sandy areas for sure!
Desertphile has cataloged every old mine and prospect in the Mojave. :) He doesn't reveal their locations to keep shitters away
Love your content keep it up..
Thanks, will do!
That rock house will outlive mine! Haha
haha I know right?
Been there years ago.
I'm so claustrophobic I can't even watch this video
haha, my dad was the same way!
That's crazy
Hey you should come to Tehchapi they have part of the Pacific Cost trail comes through here it is really cool
Awesome, I will have to check it out!
@@californiathroughmylens if you need any help just let me know and you got to Tehachapi loop cool place to
Great video, I love places that have their history. What are those round structures that look like the bottoms of huge barrels near the second mine?
Cyanide vats for processing gold ore. A leaching method.
I think Jay is right, which is why the hills I pointed out had cyanide in them I believe. Thanks for the comment!
Thanks, guys, for the explanation. It was informative and even got me to read a little more about it.
I wonder if the green mineral was copper? You can sometimes find silver if there is copper, and you can find gold if there is silver.
Interesting! Thanks for the comment
Did you see anything unusual because two babies went missing out there Orrin and Orson west maybe buried are in one of them mine holes ?
We didn't see anything unusual while we were there
What would stop someone from going back and trying to mine there? Maybe with todays technology.... they can find more gold there? Very cool video.
Ain’t no way I’d go in one of those mines. Lol
You made a video on best beaches in Orange County you should the Sam videos on San Diego, LA, Ventura, Santa Barbara, and San Luis Obispo counties.
I have been wanting to do this, hopefully in the future!
You need a metal helmet for when it collapses on you?
Does a GPS have the roads in their database? BTW that's a big sandwich.
you were in the Virginia dale mining district
Oh really?
@@californiathroughmylens look it up boss you can still find gold in there.
You guys should bring a metal detector with you... ya never know what you might find around an old gold mine!
We went there and came to a dead ends. Returned very disappointed. This was a week ago.
Looks like jade!
Why would someone vandalize that place???
I know right? It takes so much work to even get out there
@@californiathroughmylens Usually once you get further into a park the vandalism drops down to almost nothing.
