How to Get a Job With No Experience
Вставка
- Опубліковано 15 чер 2024
- There's a difference between qualifications and experience. So, I'm going to ask you, "Are you qualified for this job or are you not qualified?" and then I'm going to ask you, "Are you experienced or do you not have experience?" So, what's the difference between experience and qualifications? That's a good question.
Getting a job with no experience is not hard. Experience means that you have the raw skills to do the job. That means you've done something like this before and you can do it again for somebody else and a good example is managing people or taking care of customers or whatever it is. Let's say you managed people in one industry and now you're trying to get a job in a completely different industry. You have experience managing people; that's a transferable skill. So, you can transfer that skill from one job or one industry to another.

When nobody want to hire you because you got no experience, and because you didnt have a job you got no experience...
Add to that no Jobs at all and you need to kill someone to get a job
@bob hobby They need some sort of customized human beings. Good luck with that!
FlippeR FlappeR it’s ridiculous how that is. Eventually they will run out of experienced people.
"Ask yourself why you want this job."
Bruh, I need the money. To put food on the table and keep the lights on. LOL.
Isn't that the truth
That's a good one.haahahahahaaah
You can find a job to put food on the table and at some point look for the better job that you will actually want while having the security of the other one. :)
Haha that's like what 80% of people are thinking during the interview but maybe 1% say it
Same
Real talk: the comments offer better tips than most YT videos because we know each other's struggles lol. Good video I'm just saying
Having no experience is basically having no experience
You learn basically with time on the job
That's the entire point of applying with no experience
What
I disagree because I have no work history but I have worked with nonprofits and was a board member but it wasnt a paid position. But I have the experience for the job that pays. But I haven't work before
Literally same. I graduated a year early and even with maximum availability, I can’t get hired.
The thing I painfully realized from the last recession is employers want to know you are capable of doing the work. So when I had no experience it was hard getting a job after college. What I did is I went to several small business owners and I offered to work for free. I told them even if a job became available I still wouldn't want money. I made a deal with them and said that if I did the job well then they could pay me back by serving as a reference for my future job applications. I now work as a foreign officer with the government and the United Nations. Sometimes we need to take one step back just to take 2 or 3 more forward.
ENTRY LEVEL POSITION
20+ YEARS EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
huh? then it's not entry level.
Right? That's the real world-every job I look up on Indeed. 🙄😒
apope06 that’s exactly how it is!!
@@DonGeorgevich that’s what employers are doing....
This is the fact. Nowadays, they mention in the heading entry level and description says minimum x years of experience.
It's messed up when they make the experience a part of the qualification package. In Job description it request Bachelors Degree with 5+ experience.
Anonymous User I always that was put there to deter away the “weak minded”.
But if you have 7+ years of experience and a Masters Degree. You're overqualified.
Specially coming out of school and you apply for a job... 5 years experience with a bachelors .... this is all bullshit... in real life scenarios... little Jimmy that is cousin of the CEO gets a job while failing every subject in high school. Then there's favouritism within the workforce...
it's those lazy idiot HR copy pasting in their job ads without knowing what the company need.
can I just say how the set up of your studio and the welcoming open hands gave me a good vibe - you know what you're doing
My suggestion is this: wait until your 50, then you won't get the job because you're too old.
That's offensive ! That's also illegal under the age discrimination act of 1972. I suppose 50 is too old for someone who was born
yesterday.
@@louisrein5436 It's basically illegal if they explicitly say that. The employer can always reject someone they don't like or are of a race they don't want and just say sorry you are not what we are looking for.
It is true they don't say it in your face but they do it.
It's true :(
Being a college grad right before the great recession still hurts. HR generalist and managers generalise too much and to don't see transferable skills from various degrees. Yet high school students fresh out of high school are landing jobs before college. I ask during the interview how they (managers, hr) people how they got to where they are today. Because someone gave them a chance. Recession grads are still playing catch up.
The difference between the 2 is their sales ability. If you know how to bullshit an employer you can get the job.
I really appreciated your straightforward, non-condescending approach. I am at the beginning of a job hunt and will put your tips and tricks into practice. Thank you!
Yes helpful points 4 shizzle
I appreciate this video because so many job training seminars were dry and robotic. This man defines all assets and listing your skill sets converts in the employment application so I can get the job.
The ever best video so far i have seen about the job interview, thank you very much... After watching the video i have found some skills in myself
Best presentation ever! Thank you so much!
Don, you are a true DON...this video is sooo useful and I will utilize them when I go for jobs...massive THANK YOU!!
I've been been watching your videos, and they really helping me to write my resume. Thank you very much.
Good morning Don. I must say pretty impressive video as you have touched a crucial point where you said the internet is there learn and read educate yourself because what most person's don't understand is a person might have a PhD and you might have only your brain with a lot of knowledge plus skills and your wondering how am I going to get the job. But guess what if you go into the interview and sell yourself the right way make it even worse the skills and knowledge you have is just what the employer is looking. Bam! U have gonna the job over someone who as a PhD just look into yourself now and say yes its possible don't underestimate yourself about lord I don't have the money to further my studies get the skills and if you get the job save the money and up lift yourself. Don't make no one stop you...The sky is the limit, not someone who is saying you cannot do it. Great vid!!!
Very helpful video Don. Plus, this will galvanize me to cross check everything as needed. Mahalo 4 your knowledge Don.
Damn, I just graduated high school and have absolutely no work experience in any field.
Good luck old people who are slow, stupid, and less qualified will make twice as much as you. Happy hunting.
Don't work, it's overated
@@bankruptbritain6103
WHAT??? Even a minimum wage low-req. job can net you decent pay. 10-12K a year is better than nothing.
Hey Greg, we all started somewhere. I was in that spot, too. Just prepare for what it is to come with a well structured CV (even if you have no previous jobs) and show positive attitude and willingness to learn. This is what many employers are looking for. :)
Same but I'm still in high school
Number 2 and 3 is totally true! I actually made a video on my channel talking about this topic, but the 1 other tip I'd add is how important it can be to network with others, letting them know you're looking for a job, or even to simply build the connection, to learn about the job you're looking for. If you're new to the industry, you might likely not even be totally sure if it'll a job you'll really enjoy, so networking helps you not only reach out to others, but on your own side learn about the different job opportunities and what it'd really be like to work there.
Hey Don, thank you so much for giving such an amazing tips and to show a possibility .
Hai Don :)
I'm so glad to found your video all of sudden and watch your words. Keep making this kind of video! Thanks :)
This is such a great video. I wanted to make a transition to a new field where I had no experience. This video has already helped me twice to get the jobs where I had no previous experience.
Thank you so much I do appreciate your tips and advise
Just found your videos and you are making me feel so much more confident and useful! I have an associates degree as well and I truly have no intention on returning to school, I’m a mom and going through marital separation so I definitely need a career change with more money & better benefits for myself and my girls. Thank you!!!!

Tina Marie J. I did factory work for 15 years. Then, I became a mom and was a stay at home mom for several years. During that time I went back to school for my bachelor’s degree in business administration in accounting. I also went through divorce and am a single parent. I have minimal experience in the field. It has been IMPOSSIBLE for me to find a job too.
Its helpful for my interview. Thank you sir.
This was so awesome,,i was in a business field and I've been having this passion of serving people ,my passion was to work in hospital. I've been getting a lot of medical field job advertisement but I've not been able to apply for. But this video has given me hints. Thank you so much

Educate yourself - that's the strike.
Wherever you go, it applies and if you incorporate as a part of your routine (like exercise)....
Then you are progressing towards awareness...
Think about it
I rarely comment on tube vids, but hey, I want to catch up with you in person. Thank you so much, you've saved me
Thank you for taking the time to leave me a comment and I wish you all the best
Google garage space is a great way to educate yourself you can get formal certifications aswell jsut form studying on the Internet
There are various things to educate yourself do LinkedIn learning or watch a video on how to do a skill or even find out if there are any free workshops that you gain skills for a job around your area you might get a certificate after
This is much appreciated
Appreciate the tips!!!

I like you man, hope i get the job tomorrow, oh lord.
Many of today's youth are presented with few 'skilled' job opportunities, then reality hits home, not having the first clue what next, when the college career plan 'A' failed to materialise. Many resort to holding down two or more jobs, usually on minimum wage slaving for the fast-food industry, or equally menial dead-end jobs, existing like 'debt-slaves' in an almost impossible state, in order to repay bills and college debts,. A predicament made considerably worse for those less fortunate who lacked either a proper education, nor basic qualifications upon leaving education.
The real question here is....are you just wearing the shirt and tie...or did you go full out?
Thanks Don, you're a genius.
Thanks for watching, Djrion2!

Been searching for a job since I got laid off expecting my second child crazy that he facts about AT&T customer service that's what I did and then applying it to a car dealership where I have an interview coming up for the dealership. Give me a little bit of Hope
Arjen Robben telling me how to get a job... nice!
I was working in a factory and retail store for a bit in my summer. I was not happy working in those jobs. I realized that I wanted to work in a setting somewhat-related to my field. I'm college sophomore. I tried going to my university's career office to look for an entry level job that is not retail, but there has not been much luck for me. I guess I will be stuck with retail.
Everyone hates working retail.
Retail beats fast food. Good luck.
I have an Associate's degree and I still work in retail. Some of my coworkers have Bachelor's degrees, some just high school. Retail is always there to keep us all poor until they replace us with automation.
This video helped so much because I have my first interview on Wednesday :)
Just what I was looking for
Excellent
Go to career fairs at Universities in your surrounding area. They're at universities because they're looking to hire people with little to none experience.
It doesn't matter how old you are just go, I worked for an IT SAP partner company where I had to represent them at career fairs at community colleges.
People in their 30s with Oil and Gas experience would still show up near the end of the career fairs to put their resumes on top.
Secondly all types of jobs are at career fairs from Government and City jobs all the way to the fortune 500 (looking for people to relocate)
At my career fairs, companies just advertise what they do and take resumes "in case" they want to hire that student? In reality, landing a job in my area as a nee grad is hard.
Career fairs cancelled due to virus.
nice one 👏👏👏👏
Thank you 😃
You’re the physical incarnation of the word boss.
many thanks
I want to Job in aviation also am interested this sector, but I have no experience
Thanks
I work at a retail store as the store manager for 3 yrs now. I have cash handling, customer service, and a degree. Last week I applied for a teller position and they didn't accept my resume said I don't have experience. Do you have any idea about this?
I wouldn't give up, but you might not have the specific experience that they are looking for. It also may be how you worded your resume that doesn't convey exactly what you have done in your previous job. Have you looked in the Resume Masterpiece (www.jobinterviewtools.com/resume/) for help? All my best advice on writing resumes is in there. That would be the best place to start, and then if you had follow-up questions from there, just email me.
Best Regards,
Don
Nushangi Peduru Hevage that sounds outrageous. Id hire you. Ive been in interviews during the recession and been considered over qualified.
I was a teller when I was 18, after my first job as a cashier at Blockbuster. My mom used to work with the manager, I guess that helped. But seriously tellers don't get paid much. If you've been a manager why not go for
something better? I make more hourly as a retail sales associate than I did as a teller, the only positive was the banking hours. Math skills and being comfortable handling large amounts of cash and work under pressure is very important so play that up on your resume and during the interview. The turnover isn't as high as in retail, so it will take much longer also. I had to interview at about 6 banks to get 1 offer.
I was shortlisted for an audit assistant job but I haven't completed my qualification of bachelor as it is one of requirement. Even though I got selected and they interviewed me for first time on skype. And now they selected me for further interview at their location. Before I thought I won't get selected but it actually happen and I happy but I have no idea what I will do now.
Sonam Shahukhal look up the daily duties is the job and start reviewing them
That's awesome! Sometimes if you are selected for the job, during the negotiation phase, you can work with them to set time to finish your bachelors degree, if it's something they truly require.
As a recent high school graduate. My only experience is volunteer firefighting, which is pretty niche. Kind of hard to transfer fighting fire and responding to emergency calls to any other job than one in the field of first response. My dilemma is that I need to get a job while I wait for my fire department to begin hiring permanent employees.
what is holding you back?
Roland Roman I actually found a sales job at a local pawn shop. Thank you for the advice though.
I like how he just used a Marie Forleo, ending script for his video! >.
To connect the dots - if someone is blind it difficult to show them anything. You must catch the counterparts eyes first. Only then will you be seen.
Basically go in there and sell yourself without sounding boastful. I don’t know why I always get so nervous when I go into an interview. I should look at it as me also interviewing them because I feel I’d be an asset to their company. If I don’t believe I am, how will they ever believe in me?? I have no experience in an office setting, as I have always done labor type work, but my body is getting to that point where I need a different type of work. So I am starting fresh trying to get someone to just give me one shot! I am punctual, a perfectionist, and can talk to anyone. I am a hard worker. I care about the work I do, no matter what it is. I’m praying someone gives me a chance to prove myself because I am only 43, so I plan on being in the workforce for another 27 yrs or so God willing. 😊
you're allowed to sell yourself in the interview, just don't over-do it.
Why do I want this job? Answer: I want to survive capitalism.
Capitalism is awesome. You can get whatever job you want, just have to work for it.
@@version3155 Not everybody lives in dreamland. The outcomes of the world are not as you've described.
@@TurkishNyan yeah you're right. The outcome of the world is bad if you're lazy and dont want to work hard.
@@TurkishNyan take me for instance. I was lazy and I now hate my job and I'm in debt. But now I'm working harder at getting better jobs and increasing my knowledge by reading books. Rich people are rich because they know how to use money. Poor people stat poor because they spend money as if they were rich. Capitalism is the greatest.
@@version3155 So instead of responding to what I actually said, you came up with someone I didn't and attacked that. Very mature.
I have job experience because i have been working sense I was 15. I worked at accounting offices, a health center, and jobs helping the community I am 19 right now and the problem was no one wanted to give me an interview. But right now im at the amazon training place I hope they give me the job because this is the first time I have been unemployed for almost a year.
keep trying and something will turn your way
The qualifications is no important for Employers they need Experience! Even they do not care about the qualifications.
See when you live in an area where every barely decent paying job within a 50 mile radius every direction sets the qualifications to be: bachelors degree required, you’ll be Spongebob Jr. flipping patties until you’re old and gray and if you’re lucky enough then you’ll move up in life to become mr.krabs until the day you croak.
Seriously, even the idiot who answers phone calls here needs a Bachelor's degree, yet they still mess up all the time. I could do her job so much better 😡
Thank you pure genious
I was in a dilemma I had a job offer but this one job I’ve wanted since a few months finally contacted me only for a interview though so I took the job that was a for sure thing and I don’t like it so the job that sent me a email about the interview I found them on indeed last week and I applied, will they contact me for an interview?
That's all these employers care about is how much experience you have. You can be as smart as Stephen Hawking
with ten college degree's , but even all of that means nothing to an employer unless you have YEARS OF EXPERIENCE for the position.
You need experience to get a job even though you need the job to get the experience. Employer's these days think they will get a stronger better work force by requiring experience for every position no matter if it is a skilled position, or an unskilled position. All they are doing is frustrating the candidates and themselves too. Here is a suggestion for them …………. GIVE PEOPLE A FAIR LEGITIMATE CHANCE,SEE THEM FOR THEIR GOOD QUALITIES,AND TREAT THEM WITH RESPECT!!!!!! Maybe then they will get the kind of workforce they want!
you are missing the point. they want to hire people who are excited about what they are doing and want to grow with them.
@@DonGeorgevich No, you are missing the point. Most employers will not even respond to an applicants resume unless they have a lot of experience to begin with. There are a lot of people who are excited and want to grow with their company. However, if an applicant can't even get an interview with the nit picky employer that wants experience only then they can't even show their enthusiasm.
I had no relevant Engineering experience and found a job 8 months after graduation, only to get fired after 90 days for failing my PIP. I’ve been applying for 3 months, but no luck even after following up. Starting to think that putting that job on my resume is killing me. If I don’t include it, there’d be a 16 month gap from when I graduated. Lose lose situation.

How do get the interview if it is an online application? Long story short, I dropped out of college my last semester. In college, I became depressed and mad at the world because I was forced to take classes I was not interested in and taking classes I don't need. The only classes I enjoyed were chemistry labs, microbiology labs, basically the science courses with labs. I am looking for a lab job but a lot of these jobs want a degree, which I do not have. Should I go back to all my college syllabus' and gather techniques I used for these classes that are required for lab jobs and put on cover letter? Please help!!

I got my first job interview tomorrow... Let's see how it goes
How did it go?
I've done everything before and am qualified for these positions but they still descrinate me during the interview process.
Is it from drug testing?
I want to get an IT job without experience
Just curious, have you found what you were looking for?
Ok but what if you have an associates degree....and nine months of job experience.
Then fucking mention you have 9 months work experience
Then you're pretty well-off I'd reckon.
What do I supposed to say when they tell me that I'm overqualified?
You might consider applying to jobs where you are not overqualified and then you won’t have to address that issue
Some individuals blame the unemployed for the plight they’re in. Being without a job can occur to any man or woman.
I think if just completed high school you just start to work at a supermarket that does need little to 0 experience
I applied at Kroger during college, I had already worked my share of retail, and I was "overqualified" 😂
