- What is the best "Field of View" (FOV) setting in Destiny 2? SO many people say that 105 is best for everyone, but I actually disagree and personally use a lower FOV. This video explains why.

Field of View is a commonly misunderstood setting in Destiny 2 that can have a massive impact on your in-game performance and accuracy. With a minimum of 55 and a maximum of 105, the FOV setting provides advantages and disadvantages depending on what value you select. This video covers exactly how FOV works so that you can hopefully make an educated decision about what FOV setting is truly BEST for your personal playstyle. Even if you're on an older console, this video still applies to you because of crossplay and because you may switch to another platform in the future.

Choosing the correct field of view depends so much on your monitor.
I actually play on a 1000mm radius curved monitor. 105 feels totally natural on that one, whereas on my old monitor I preferred 80-85, just like you.
It honestly depends on how you sit, how far you are away from your monitor and how the monitors geometries are.
Gr8 info..will try surely!!
I main the last word and snipe aggressively, should I try 95 FOV as a happy medium? Considering that I hip fire TLW, I get to have my radar up and I’m only vulnerable in the second i descope my sniper.
The issue I always found on old gen when I used to play on it, is that the new norm of high zoom snipers felt jarring, I’m hoping 95 rounds it off.
Hey Shadow, what if you play on a big screen, I know it’s not optimal but it’s all I have at the moment. I’ve been experimenting and 95 FOV seems like the middle ground between having enough depth to check surroundings and having big enough players on my screen.
Thing is a friend told me it isn’t that good of an idea because of the screen size I play in, with such a large screen and lower FOV; it would increase the perception of speed and make things harder to aim and track.
At 6:26 sec are you using 2 different input devices? The crosshair looks different.
Just to add on - when making my exotic not-tier list, I found a number of them to be borderline unusable at 105 FOV. Since switching to 95, all of them behave as intended. Definitely feels like a visual glitch on Bungie's part, but at least now I'm getting the true representation of what my weapons are capable of, which helps to build consistency in my game.
Fantastic job with this video, hope this blows some people's minds.
Did you swap to 95 permanently or only during the creation of your list? Also, did you need to adjust your DPI/Sensitivity to compensate?
@@ajsultani1636 permanently. And no adjustment whatsoever. It's just a visual perception difference, not a sensitivity thing as mentioned in the video
@@AscendantNomad - Thank you!
i am a pvp player and feel like my crosshair while ADS just isn't visible at 105 FOV, would you recommend 95 I normally run hand cannons and snipers.
@@crystal7116 that's what the video is suggesting
The reticle hiding under high FoV is so frustrating to deal with lol, there's certain guns like crimson that just feel awful on max FoV. I also find it interesting in the aim training community for MKB, a lot of people will change their FoV for various scenarios (like 115+ for very wide angle practice on target switching). I feel I can get used to a new FoV much faster after this kind of practice.
Awesome video, lot's of great info here!
My two favorite destiny bangers showing ❤️
Destiny is doing this ADS scaling odd. Did you play BF4? Remember the upset about ADS FOV in the begining which made DICE ad an option to get proper zoom and consistent FOV when zooming.
@@clintans Yeah I wish D2 had something like BF's uniform soldier aiming setting to make different scope lengths feel more similar
@@clintans id actually love if bungie allowed us to get up to 120 fov as well as adding more ads settings like monitor distance coefficient and per scope ads multiplier
This is absolutely one of the most useful destiny videos I've ever seen. I've been playing on 105 because, well... because! I'm definitely gonna try out new settings later.
haha thank you!
That's the problem with doing what everybody else says is the "meta."
Seriously same. Eye opening.
@@cmdrriotz5283 is also nice to be able to see more than 7 degrees but yeah, if the meta is what you wanna call it then sure
@Geist8745 yep sure everyone is loving the 30th anv shut up
Holy shit brother. This is literally game changing. 95 is now my default FoV, and I have you to thank. You’ve always been the guy I send my viewers and friends to when they have questions on how to improve gameplay when I can’t explain stuff very well by myself. Thank you man, you’re incredible and will always have my full support behind you.
You commented twenty minutes after this video was posted and 95 is already your permanent default.
wow, thank you!
@@vernaltear it’s that game changing. Dude, I was always good with Ace, but I played one game and boom, I hit what I call a Triple-Triple (Undefeated, Ghost in the night, We ran), and only pulled my shotty out like twice. I had no idea I was firing partly blind with it because the FOV made the freaking reticle disappear for most of the animation. I’m telling you, 20 minutes. That’s all I needed. I’ve played more since then, obviously. And yeah, I stand by my stance lol
I would say 105 fov is still the best if you’re playing at the highest levels.
Definitely gonna be lowering mine. I have felt like certain things were off when I played and this explains a lot!!
Your videos always contain the most insightful content and info, with this being no exception to that standard. Thank you for the great video! Gonna go back to the lower FoV, after maxing it out when I switched to the next gen console, and see if my PvP performance goes back to what it was before.
This video was fantastic. After switching to 105 FOV on PS5, I noticed that both my hand cannon and sniper accuracy was way down. I thought it was due to increased team shooting and the aim assist changes with snipers. Changed it to 85 last night and hitting shots felt easy (first game with my old Dire Promise and Adored was a We Ran on Altar). Thanks, Shadow.
Love to hear it!! ❤️
I did the same when I got my PC, played 105 for the longest time thinking that was the way to do it but dropping to 95 has made a huge difference to accuracy
I still use 105 but, when I snipe I use Occluded Finality. I find the high zoom sight very similar to using a lower zoom sniper on a lower FOV. This also lets me take advantage of the aim assist bonus that comes along with having high zoom on a sniper.
I definitely was in the 105 or bust crew, but I can very much see the benefits displayed in this video. I think I might try going a little bit lower since I use a lot of mid range weapons
It's been a few weeks and this video brought me back in the groove of sniping, I didn't understand why I felt so off sniping in destiny 2 when it was my highest kill weapon in destiny 1. Thank you.
Top-quality video again bro! I learn something new every time!
Shadow….this has helped me so much I can’t even tell you. I was at max FOV (I’m a sniper) and I lost count how many times I’d get killed trying to acquire a target bc they blend into the background too much. Just dialing it back 10 has helped immensely. I’m starting to get doubles now, something I’ve never done before
Wow that’s so awesome to hear! Glad it helped
Always an incredible breakdown. Will be trying 80-90 fov. Thanks shadow, great content. Keep it up
Thanks so much!!
Thank you. I can’t tell you how much this has helped me. This was well organized and EASY to understand and implement. I love to run Last Word and Contingency Plan. Changing my setting around for sensitivity and FoV instantly improved my pvp game. Love the content, keep up the great work! Much respect ✊
GG
This was an amazing video man! It’s seriously feels like I opened my eyes when dropping down my FOV to 80. You are so right that at first it hurts but then gets better
Thank you so much! Really appreciate the comment bro
I've experimented with fov a lot and think I'll stick to max though. On my 27" curve monitor things aren't too small and it massively improves performance when fighting shotguns and such
On TV lower FOV better for me but on monitor I can take 105. It just easier to acquire target especially after beyond light update it added excessive light effect
Solid. Looking forward to trying this as a GL/sidearm main.
Totally Awesome video about FOV, and I will definitely be checking my FOV to see what I find the best for PvP especially. Keep up the good work mate.
Easily one of the best Destiny 2 help videos I've ever seen. You earned a like and I'm subscribed. Keep up the content!
thank you very much!
This was blindingly obvious to me a few weekends ago during Widows Court trials. I'm normally a very good sniper, but the combination of unusually long engagements and playing at 105 FOV made opponents damn near impossible to hit. I couldn't see jack. Definitely going to try something closer to 90 after seeing this vid 👍
I noticed this a while ago. I noticed that with bows my accuracy was worse then I remember. And after Destiny added the ability for consoles to up the value I had upped mine considerably. Reverting a bit, but not totally to what the default was. Now around 85 to 90 made it all seem comfortable again when aiming and trying to be as precise as before. HC's, Sidearms, and almost every weapon just seems much easier to use again.
Its crazy how u mentioned thorn and ace because those 2 hand cannons have been and still are the hardest for me to get used to. definitely gonna give them another try after watching this
This really puts into perspective why I have always preferred my PS4 over my PS5 (which I play at 105) for PVP. I guess I'll be backing it down some and seeing how it goes.
Love this video and this kind of content. Anything that helps to eliminate the concept of their being a “best” setting is great. The best settings are the ones that allow you to hit your shots.
thanks :)
That’s very interesting, I’ll definitely give this a try and see what I like the most.
Let me know what you think when you try out some new values!
@@ShadowDestiny so because of my shotgun play style, a higher FOV is actually better since I’m not easily bamboozled whenever someone just jumps up when I push them.
Your explanation and attention to detail with the visuals in this video is superb! Brilliant content.
Thanks!!😀
Thanks for making this video, ever since I got my Series X and they introduced FoV sliders for console players I maxed that out straight away as I kind of liked how "fast" the gameplay felt.
Wasn't until Halo Infinite came around and I did the same on there but matches felt inconsistent and I was always fiddling with sensitivity and all sorts of options. Only thing I didn't try was reducing FoV so after I did that I went from being extremely inconsistent and uncomfortable with my settings to flat out playing better and climbed to High Onyx Rank really fast with a good high shot accuracy percentage.
I took what i learned and went back to destiny for the Witch Queen and reduced my FoV down to 80 what i played on Infinite and it felt night and day. Sniping feels like a dream and Hand Cannons and Pulses feel so good too.
But again, thanks for the awareness on the vid as it can be an extremely important setting to have that basically goes unappreciated for how much of an impact it can make on your game.
If you’re on controller it makes a lot more sense to bring the fov down a bit. 80 seems a bit low, 85 is probably as low as I personally would go. But he’s right! It makes it much easier to hit precision shots. Mnk is so much more precise intrinsically to where it makes more sense to pull fov out more for less recoil and map awareness (recoil is much easier to control on mnk)
Missed opportunity to use the threaded needle at that threading the needle explanation part. Used tarantula instead.
Been a follower of your channel for a while now, and content like this is what keeps me coming back. Thank you, this is great stuff!
Much love
Wow, thanks for this! I'll definitely need to experiment with this, since I like scouts and ARs most with SMG or sidearm only as a backup.
I think for new players, this is great, but for me for example, I've been playing on 105 since the start of D2 and I am a decent player (2.0 KD in Trials) and my personal advice to players who ask me for tips is consistency. I can tell you how I play the game, but what matters is practice and consistently getting used to whatever. I like extremely low DPI with max FOV, but someone who learns to use something different can be just as good or better.
I don't have a choice because i'm on last gen, but good on you dood. Always coming in with a well informed opinion.
Hope you can find a next gen console I was lucky cause a family member got a deal at best buy
9:26 that transition made me subscribe. (And the quality content lmao)
One of these weeks I'll feel confident enough to go into Trials. Thanks for the tips! :D Great informative video
I actually just got a series x. I tried 105 at first but felt too fishbowl like because everything was so much smaller compared to old gen. I ended up at 95 actually but I have noticed a big difference in my ability to actually hit shots using hand cannons with a bit lower stability like Ace. All in all I don't like max FOV an I have already seen improvement when it comes to my aim with certain weapons on next gen.
Yeah I didn't even mention it, but the warping // fisheye effect of having 105 FOV can be annoying for some people
@@ShadowDestiny yea it just really didn't look right to me at all. I'm definitely happy with 95 currently. I generally main a fusion or shotgun so I find it's the sweet spot for me.
I always found 105 difficult to play, thought I was going mad as so many people say its such a strong advantage. I always found 95 to be the best medium.
As much as i like some of them a lot of youtubers dont know jack about pvp on this game even tho they seem like they do. A big example is almost all say to have a high range stat on your handcannons when you truly dont need that much range your handcannons. 30m atleast/atmost is the best HC range. People need to realize just because they're a youtuber or good at the game doesnt mean they know what they're talkin about.
@@cerebralassassin2185 although i agree range is still important since it affects your AA + accuracy cones so a HC with more range will feel more accurate and sticky
but its worth to sacrifice other stats for more range and as example anybody who says that SteadyHand or Fastdraw arent the best sights are chatting shit :)
Accidentally stumbled upon this video by miss clicking and wow it gave me so much information. Thank you for your research and help with this topic
Subbed !!
You offer some of the best tips and explanation videos in the community and we love you for it. Thank you.
Thanks so much!!
I usually run 105 fov. Now that i saw this I'm gonna change it to a 85 or a 89 because i use handcannons and slugs along with smgs
Interesting video! You might also comment on how console vs pc reticle placement also effects FOV. It doesn’t just lower the crosshairs. Consoles lower crosshair placement alters your view angle to allow you to see more ceiling than floor when compared side by side. I’m on stadia and was using it as cheap way to “widen” my fixed FoV (85?) there. But given your video here, not really sure how it might be affecting my crosshair.
You stuff goes wild 😊 I did change my settings and my aim increased to a new level. Holy Moly that made the change an double the fun. Thx for all your efforts and sharing. Regards from Germany
i love this video thank you for showing me when i started playing for some reason my fov was alrdy at 105 i dont remember changing it but i didnt even think to change it because honestly didnt know what it meant playing destiny for years and never checked it out
I just want to say…I absolutely love you. I JUST tuned my fov down from 105 to 90. From a shotgun/hand cannon ape from 2 games with thorn/adored. I JUST GOT 50 kill game with it. I was horrible with snipers and didn’t know why. I think I found the reason. THANK YOU ❤️
Wow that’s amazing, congrats!!
@@ShadowDestiny all thanks to you man
Bro thanks for this video! I was playing with one of my friends last week and he told me i was crazy for not using 105 field of view. I play on two different monitors and on my smaller one its hard to see across the map on 105 eventhough the monitor is top tier! Dude told me its killing my kda not running 105. I am like dude i am 5.5kda and i dont play d2 pvp like i use to!
Sending him this video link now! Keep up the great work!
wow man this is a ton of stuff I had no idea about, I was just like everybody else hearing that matches the best so that's what I did, but I didn't realize all these things were affected. Thanks for the video!
Very interesting. I've had huge issues hitting with hand cannons but never thought to try a lower FOV. Since I'm gaming on an ultrawide monitor it seemed sensible to use 105. Going to dial it down to 95 a while and see how things feel.
A little warning for pc users sitting relatively close to the monitor, lover fov may give you motion sickness. Anything below 95 does to me, especially in a high movement game like Destiny
It’s extremely unlikely to get motion sickness at anything above 75 given that is the last-gen console setting. Even on 55 I didn’t get any motion sickness. But yes, it is possible
@@ShadowDestiny it's not unlikely lol, you just thankfully don't suffer from it. 55 is definitely unthinkable for someone who does, as for me I can't go lower than 90.
Whenever there's a FOV option, I always have on 90. Just makes sense in my mind to have a right angle view of everything
Do you not know what angles are?
Same here
Nice study! I never really paid much attention to my FOV but have noticed the reticle issue with some hand cannons. I'll definitely have to do some experimenting. Thanks for your hard work!
That was eye opening. I never thought about lowering the fov from 105. And i always convinced other people to do the same.
Some good examples....
Well.. im on Ps4 😫
Shadow! You are a god among men, thank you so much for this content. I switched to PC 4 weeks ago and was wondering why I was struggling. I turned my FOV down and now my pacing and everything feels much much better. It feels like the D2 I played on console again and I been droppin 2+kd games ever since lmao. Night & Day
This is very interesting I love watching stuff like this, I became a PVP nightmare overnight just changing my FOV and look/aim sensitivity, I changed both setting (in my case lowered both significantly) and I was landing every shot, it slowed things down a bit but I was quite literally slaying the lobby after I adjusted just those two settings, peeps in the lobby with me probably thought I was cheating thats how big of a difference it can make, everyone is different and I would try as many different variations as you can till you become a legend and find that sweet spot. Much love fam!!!
This was a very insightful video i am now Subbed and liked it. Can’t wait till I’m off work today to update this and try this on Destiny 2 later.
Another great video! Guess for survival games, Battlefield or battle royals it's helpful to have a huge FOV, this might be where this thoughts come from imo. As the maps in D2 are quite small I tried a smaller on (was on 105 as well) and kind of instantly improved my K/D quite solid in the following matches (not that it's an extremely good one, but I saw a change). Enough to finetune a little more and then stay on a lower FOV in the future for sure 👍
I love that you brought this point to the forefront
I prefer playing at right around 80 fov. I putz with it from time to time to make sure my constantly changing playstyle is still working well at 80 but it generally stays there.
I will say a lower fov personally feels so much better on controller
Coming from a PS5 player btw.
Thanks! Yeah 80 feels great for me as well on controller :)
Great video, looking forward try playing some pvp on 95 instead of 105
When I went from PS4 to pc I went to 105 because I thought that was what I had to do and for a while I couldn’t even judge my jumps-my grenades were so stupid bad. The impact it had on sniping has meant I just don’t snipe now and I mostly stick with short and medium weapons. I am absolutely going to run a lower FOV tonight. Thanks so much for this video.
i seen the controller video 1st, it help a bit. I just watch this video although i have not tried it I know its going to pick my game up a lot. NEW SUB! my friend. thanks!!!
Always wondered why playing on my series S felt different. Currently play on 90. May have to try on 75-80 to test if this improves my consistency.
rewatching the whole video because i was too focused on your gameplay in the background. All those headshots were immaculate, and satisfying bro. Love your content :D
Appreciate it
@@ShadowDestiny am I seeing things or did you get an adept igneous hammer from a normal trials match?
1:02
Ty, this makes a lot of sense. I was somehow using 85 FoV , but i change it to 105 FoV recently. I noticed that i felt less comfortable in the way i play. Less accurate also sitting closer to the screen. I’ll put it back to 85 , hopefully i can play it bit more relaxed. 😊
Wow, I never knew this. It's very informational and you explain it clearly. Great video!
thanks! Appreciate the 2 comments
thank you for answering the questions that i had on this
I revisited this video as I increased my fov from 75 to 80 as I recalled it would make Thorn performance better to have it around there. I was slightly confused because to me it felt better increasing it by 5 rather than reducing it, as suggested here. It feels like the gun model is further from my face, but I suppose that is the illusion created by more of the surroundings being visible. In terms of photography, increasing the lens length should/would change the range at which the gun is perceived, but I guess fov is a bit different and mainly changes things beyond your own model.
Tldr; still confused, but better with hand cannons
i agre with everything in this video, high field of view has its advantages but a lower fov does improve a lot of things
One of the most straightfoward and accurate piece of information I've ever seen. Congratulations good sir, this is top notch content!
This video earned my sub, hands down! Great info and I’m going to try a lower fov now!
Thanks so much man!
Interestingly enough I started to experiment with this almost a year ago and it started because of Apex Legends. It made me curious and I also wondered when one of you PVP guru's would break it down. Very good video and good things to note in the comments and video from the other PVP gurus in the community. Cheers.
Cheers!!
Just came across this today. Better late than never. Literally game changing for my survival matches. It was easy to adapt to because of the “speed is an illusion” statement you made. Sent your video to a good buddy of mine.
Just gotta say thank you!
I was thinking maybe I’m just not trying hard enough, or getting too old, or just don’t care. Crucible was not fun until tonight after making adjustments to the FOV.
My guns work again!
Glad it helped!
What FOV did you settle on?
Thanks for this, i was wondering why i had easier time sniping when i was in console
I have gotten used to 86 in other games years ago, and that is my go to number since then. Throughout bc2, bf3,4 and other shooters, have been using that in D2 as well. It felt silly when everyone always told you to crank it up to 105 lol.
this was extremely interesting and a fantastic find. i will definitely switch my settings. thank you!
Thanks so much! And all I'm saying is at least give other FOVs a try, you can always switch back if you don't like it :)
Started watching your videos since your sniper ranking was out. Btw when are you gonna review the long walk? Are you just waiting for the thousand yard stare to come out and make a review on both?
That guy at 7:30 really got me with your text. I think I've seen this happen more, and more thanks to the whole cross play update which Bungie can actually fix but I believe they dont know how to do it correctly without pissing off players.
VERYYYYY INTERESTING... *strokes beard*
Gonna give this a go. Great work as always man!
I'm not a great PvPer by any extent, but I'm not too bad either.
I did the FoV change a couple of months ago, and I've noticed that my performance with The Last Word and other weapons meant for closer ranges (not shotguns, those did fine) has decreased (to the point I went down in my K/D), but on the other hand, using Scouts and Auto Rifles proved slightly easier. I think I'll have to play with my settings to find the sweet spot.
Thanks for the video, it helps!
Since I moved from the last gen I been experimenting with this depending on what weapon I use. You are not wrong improvements can be made depending on the weapon and the fov.
Best advice ever! I tried 90 at this moment and head shots with adored are easier... It is amazing
Thanks man! This explains why i suffer hitting with 140’s since im on ps5
holy moly my mind is blown. And to see Nomad and Cammy confirming this, I will definitely make some adjustments. Great video!
This was a really interesting vid. It definitely helped me find ways to show that my friends have mistaken info. Thanks a lot.
you're welcome :)
I just watched this but this was very helpful thanks man :)
Great video, definitely gonna play around with my FOV the next few times I boot up Destiny
Awesome
Thanks man! This helped a lot!
Amazing video man very very useful and so much more info and insight than most 🙏👌😎
Thanks Oscar :) I try to always properly research my vids and provide as much value as I can!
Yeah i already knew this but im glad somebody made a video about it
Youll also want a higher fov the more your screen takes up your vision.
Great video as usual, I dropped to 93 a couple of months ago, liked it, going to try lower
Thanks for this video!! I’m not a crucible person but since iron banner has rolled around I’ve been having fun and I’ve been meaning to compete in PVP. I do agree that 105 fov( at least on series X where I play on) is a bit much. I’m gonna take up your suggestion on 80 since I’m also the kind of player that enjoys more king range weapons
Nice man, thanks for watching :)
Whats been the most significant improvement for me is keeping my target (or expected target) always at the center of my screen, then look at the reticule next. But this is mind opening, i will def try several fov in my next gameplay.
6:00 correct me if I’m wrong, I believe its called visual recoil, same thing happens in COD.
I’m going back to D2 after one year.
Love the content, keep these videos coming 👍🏻.
Omg. I have my fov set at max and it’s no wonder I’m missing so many shots. Thank you my friend!
Very very helpful! I have played All video games in default settings all my life. Now it’s time to experiment.
I don’t comment on Destiny videos very often. But when I do, is to recognize invaluable knowledge shared. My Destiny career has just changed for the better. Thank you very much! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
❤️
The reticule thing is very interesting! That's the main argument for me because I play on a large, qhd monitor so target size is not an issue at 105.
I really needed this, I have such a hard time at range and now I know why
That super transition at 9:28 was dope as hell
Your videos are literally the only reason why I get better at PvP
