I found it hilarious that in Hell they have basically the same system of physical access control I use at work. I like to imagine an administrator that demons have to send access requests to to get their skulls, and then there's an audit to see if the demon really NEEDS access to that area, and if he doesn't he gets turned down.

Doom, for me, is the best game ever. I know everyone will have their own favourites, for their own reasons but I was first introduced to it by a friend at University who knew I was into Wolfenstein at the time & as soon as I played it, I loved it. For it's time, it was so cool. The sound-effects made it really freaky & the graphics were state-of-the-art. I loved that it took the hidden room thing a step further than Wolfenstein & that it taxed the gamer, when so many FPS games were fun for about 10 minutes before they got boring. We loved it so much that, instead of doing our final year assignments & dissertations, we spent as much time as humanly possible playing Doom, to the point that we both came close to failing our courses. Since then, I've been severely disappointed by all the subsequent attempts to revive the franchise, feeling that none of them have ever come close to the playability & excitement of the original. This time it sounds like they may have finally got it right. Time to head out to the shops methinks...

lmfao this game is so sick, actually reminds me of the old doom even though i was too young to appreciate it. Other AAA developers need to look at this to realize how behind they've been with level design and solid gameplay mechanics.

But games like Dark Souls, and this are getting enough of a following that i think companies will recognize the value of making games with quality mechanics. Even though fallout 4 sold a lot, people are disappointed due to the lack of RPG mechanics, i think that will reflect in the sales of the next fallout.
About the people saying Doom is slow paced and just another CoD. They are completely and utterly WRONG. I bought the game the day it was released and I've played multiplayer, snapmat, and campaign. The gameplay is some of the fastest I've played in a modern fps. Partly because of the system that punishes you for covering. I played this game running through the map because holding still is instant death. And I don't even understand how a person could compare this to CoD.

After playing the original Doom years ago, I wanted to try the update. Great game! Hate the platforming aspect but the rest is super fun.
i have played halfway through, and have to say for a pure fps it it hits a stride alot of other fps campaigns dont, because they dont embrace the trope and refresh how awesome it was the first time. I would like a little more color overall but thats nitpicky i mean its alot of browns and reds mixed with steel. But again thats nit picky because what i have played through has been awesome. The rune trials are really cool it breaks up some of the moment to moment.

Hi again, this gives me more confidence in you as a reviewer. You are one of the best if not the best on UA-cam when it comes to pragmatic, open minded reviews. Especially when I know your thoughts on having review code being held back. You must have worked your ass off to get it played on 3 systems, finish it then pump out a non-biased or judgemental review. I am also glad that 99% of us all were wrong about Bethesda with holding review code because the game was bad and they were only going to make money 1st week. The opposite has obviously put a kick in your step and an obvious relief. This blended 90's - 2010's game feels like a breath of fresh air for its simple, fast uncomplicated fun & good looking style. Good job to you kind sir for a great and rational review and good job to Devs although I hate having to wait for a review because of publishers. It shows how much I have come to rely on good game journalism.

Beware of a lot of the scams on those sites, and also beware of the extra prices thrown on by G2A Shield and Kinguin's buyer guarantee or whatever it's called. Many keys may be purchased with illegal credit cards, so be sure you know how to chargeback in case the key deactivates.

Like you I spent hours building and designing wads for doom/ doom2 when I was a teenager. Consumed my life, had a couple of pretty popular levels on AOL back in the day. I have been dreading this reboot, particularly given my distaste for Bethesda of late. This review is a surprise to me and thanks for that. I may actually check this out and dive back in to level creation in 2016

I just finished the campaign in about 14hs on Ultra-Nightmare and i gotta say, I've been playing a lot of dark souls lately (all of them) and coming to this game, I really felt like there were similarities to my surprise. Of course not in the theme or the genre, but in the mechanics.
If you play this game on harder difficulties, it really tests your reflexes and your ability to move taking into account the space you have to move in, to consider glory killing for health and armor or to use the chainsaw to get ammo. It was all about micro management, just like a souls game.
EDIT: Another thing that felt souls-like was the way they introduced enemies. It was like, here's one of this type of enemy, kill it, ok now try with 20 of 'em. You can tell there was some serious thought process in the placement of the different types of enemies in the different environments.
Maybe I'm crazy but that was what I liked the most about it. It was punishing but It was all because I failed to perform well, not because the game is unfair. I even got stuck several times and when I somehow managed to pull through it felt rewarding as hell (pun intended xD) just like a souls game.

I was looking at Shadow Warrior 2, but I felt a bit off about some of the crude humor in that, and I saw this review for Doom. I decided that since I was looking for a fun shooter I should look at Doom. Turns out its on sale for the rest of the week. (Until Oct. 25) Since its half off I decided to give it a shot, so far I am not disappointed.
I bought it, and then realized I hadn't checked the minimum requirements. Then I used CYRI (Can You Run It) to see if it would work on my PC. (With my i3-4160) It of course said my processor wasn't good enough. However I decided to try it out since I'd already payed, and started the download. Once I had it downloaded I started it up, and I've been getting ~55-60 FPS (Granted I do have a 960) I haven't gotten far enough to see if things get bad when there are a lot of enemies, but dang this game runs surprisingly well.
It is of course fun and all that, but I think that you will already know that after watching a couple reviews.

its also suprisingly not very graphics heavy, i use on board graphics (although they're amd on board so its better then most on board) and on medium settings i get 50 fps in most parts 40 during glory killing
I'm having a blast with the game.. Multi and single. I even bought the strategy guide. It was only 10 bucks when I grabbed the game at game stop. I haven't had a game guide in years, glad I did. It has a double sided cover that I instantly flipped to the throwback side. Multi is also really great to have and a deciding factor for me. Something to keep me occupied till BF1 comes out. Plus a season pass isn't that much...

This game works on an alienware alpha i3 LOL. Deserves serious props for that alone.
I'm more fan of slow paced, story driven atmosphere sinks (Deus Ex, Alien: Isolation, Pray 2017) but if you have to have shooter you might as well go all the way. Love this game so much. They should bring underrated Doom 64 on steam and PS Store. Same as Quake 1, 2 and 4 on PS Store.
It may not be the best FPS of all times, but id seems to have made the best possible Doom experience one could hope for in 2016. thanks for the review.

Ok I LOVE LOVE LOVE DOOM single player campaign... But I just learned about doom's weakness...
Just want to make you are aware that if a gamer does not want to pay for the premium gaming services like PlayStation Plus, you are no longer allowed to play multi player mode in this game from the console. Even with Internet access. I learned this when I tried to play Doom online with my friends... I haven't had a PSPLUS account in years because really I would not use it enough to warrant having it. As a business owner and family man, I don't have the time to game like I used to.
I got the message that "I MUST HAVE PS PLUS ACCOUNT TO PLAY MULTIPLAYER" Why? I should not be forced to pay for service I do not need. They are just trying to get more money from players. I know PS+ has cool features but I don't want or need them, but using it to lock functions on a game that I already purchased is beyond crazy & infuriating. I have high speed internet which is all I ever needed to play online multi player games on console. Hell, I have 3 FREE MMO games for the console... Online Multi player gaming is not a premium function. It is a part of the game, that has been advertised without the mention about a PSPLUS account being needed, and I ALREADY full price purchased with a PREORDER. WTH??? If your going to do that then offer the game for $20 with the Option for multi player, because with out premium console service, I can only play 1/3 of the game. This is a bad business practice that can not be allowed to happen because if they succeed with this one everyone else will follow!!!
So let's just do the math...
Game $60
Season pass $50
And now premium console package another $50
This game just went from $60 to $160!!! And $50 of that you will have to pay year after year if you want to play with your friends like you can already do now on any other game at no extra cost... This is a curveball way to bring back the DRM that Xbox was tiring to introduce at the Xbox1 launch!!!

I'm really trying to get excited for it by watching videos and reviews but idk why it's just not making me super excited to play. Maybe it's just not my thing and the only doom I ever played was doom64. I still have it maybe I should go break out my n64, blow on the cartridge 20 times, and play a few levels to remind me how great doom is.

Doom 2016 is a very good game its a very good mix of old and new but:
Retardesda hasnt done shit it was all Id like always
The sound track is complete fail
The guns feel weaker than they should be because this game is based on the glory kill system which is a minor miss
The level design is very good but they dont feel doomish enough and hell levels are average
I got a beast PC but I just bought it on Xbox to play with friends. Havent played yet but hope it's good

This game goes from anywhere between 150 fps to 80 on 2x 970 sli 1080p. That's not what people would call "optimized." When a game is "optimized" it uses like 99% of your gpu and the fps are usually very stable, which this title certainly doesnt deliver on.
But the game is soo good it makes it still makes it worth imo.
Dude are you serious? The eye can't see past 60 fps and 60 fps is the optimal frames per second. V-sync is for people who have screen tearing not clueless. Also don't be one of "those" PC users. No one likes them.
Research about the human biology you think the eyes are measured in "frames per second" kid? You are legit stupid and Maybe you should one day invest in a 144hz monitor and test for yourself the differance dumb sheep.

Amazing game , it's like a DOOM and QUAKE 2 in one, there's a lovely quake 2 feel in the level design that i absolutely adore

I finished Doom today. I fully recommend it. Well modernized version of original. I disliked the upgrades but you know what? They are optional so you don't have to use them and i chose not to. For FPS lovers this is strong recommendation with a tip: At least Ultra-violence (difficulty) , do not upgrade anything unless plot forces you to and switch off any HUD indicators like compass or objective marker (yes, you can do that). This will get you experience as close as experience in the first Doom. No FPS recently enthralled me this much that would spend 13 hours on a single player campaign in one session. This tops Wolfenstein: The New Order which was amazing game. So that's my comment.

I still thnk the soundtrack is too weak. I dont know why they didnt just hire a veteran Metal band to compose the soundtrack. Like Slayer or Megadeth. Or both. Sort of like Hotline miami has multiple songs from multiple artists. Missed Opportunity Id.

Wife got this game for me on it's midnight release (from Walmart technically but owell I'm not complaining) Went in thinking it was gonna be pretty decent maybe alittle doom-3-ish, but what I got instead was the Doom game we deserved.
I played this damn thing for 19 hours before beating it's campaign on ultra violence. I put down my controller when I finished, looked across the room to my wife, and told her that I love her more than she could imagine. She had essentially bought me the male version of a forever diamond necklace.
I guess what I'm trying to basically say is this. This game has shown me that there is alot of things that can surprise and reinvigorate someone's interest in an older franchise, I was beyond happy with this game and well well WELL WORTH MY 60 BUCKS. What makes me the happiest is that they left it open for a 2nd game or dlc and I'm so thankful for that.

otherwise a great review and outlines a reason why I am much more trusting of a youtuber than a major review site, they've been largely shitting on this, probably weren't given money by Bethesda.

Well it's kind of a Bethesda game but not really. Id are the main guys here. Bethesda takes a backseat. They do RPGs and by no means is Doom an RPG unless you mean the explosive kind.
This has been my addiction all weekend! Best game out there.

I am still upset at the stupid trend of calling newer releases the same as the originals (Doom instead of Doom4).
It is going to make finding WADS for Doom 1 and 2 a bit more difficult! this applies to most modern remakes of games. And dammit, Doom and Doom 4 are different games, with 22 years in between!

I don't know I really want to buy doom however the level designs feel very uninspiring and drab, the colour palette is bland though sometimes the imagery is pretty good however it does feel like every fps ever with little to no story and not amazing graphics. will probably buy it though, if this doesn't get me then homefront surely will
