It's like carrot cake. It's sweet, but the carrot pieces in it ruin it for some
I genuinely enjoyed the movie. I feel like it does more right than wrong honestly. I just wish more people could enjoy it.
It's not the worst movie in the series and not the best in The Disney Trilogy but some good can come out of it
The greatest one in my opinion. Also... latest episode of the mandolorian why are we not talking about it😂 Jesus Christ it was amazing
It sucks
They should have kept Rey a nobody.
Yeah I think that too, it would have connected the films more, but for what Rey's arc is in TROS I actually really like it. I think both reveals work well in their respective movies
@@TurfNationYT Rey nobody probably would have fit better with the original ideas for the third movie. Kinda like how The Force Awakens would have fit better with the original ideas for the end of Return of the Jedi.

@@justanimage5012 imaging how much more seriously kylo would be taken if he's the one who kills luke. And of course later on they could have a scene of him truly feeling sadness.
But expecting good writing from Disney is like expecting sea water to be sweet
*UNLIKELY*
The one thing i love about Luke vs Kylo Ren moment is that it's not just Luke saving the Resistance.
Its Luke confronting his greatest failure and...well, ( going into my own interpretation) apologizing to Ben and letting him work though his anger at his uncle. In a sense, helping him like he should have.
And, i think it worked. Because Kylo in TROS isn't as angry at the world.
Clearing his mind (in a sense) and setting him up for his redemption.
Another thing that nobody brings up?
That moment between Kylo and Leia? Is literally the ONLY moment those two have together in the entire squeal trilogy. Mother and Son. I know that Carrie Fisher's death effected the film. ( i kinda have a theory about her and a particular moment in TROS) it makes that moment mean alot more.

One thing that would have EASILY been a silver moment was that deleted scene where Luke sits down and starts mourning Han's death. Is it necessary? Not really, but it's so powerful and Mark Hamill acted it so well it deserved to be included.
Oh, also that scene where Finn tries to rail Stormtroopers against Phasma and it looked like it was going to work before she shot them. Though that would he fit better had we gotten Trevorrow's Episode 9.
Luke’s entire character in The Last Jedi was a Silver moment to be honest.
But I agree, a scene of him mourning Han would’ve been a great moment, especially since he thought by leaving his friends he would protect them.
I imagine if The Last Jedi was given a longer runtime we could’ve seen these deleted scenes in the movie.
Honestly yeah I wish that moment had been in the movie, it really wouldn't have added much length to it at all. But at least we can still view it some places!
It's why I hope a Last Jedi special edition or director's cut is made someday so those scenes are included.
They should've worked harder on not making luke a cynical jaded worthless old man, they really had to butcher an iconic character.
@@TurfNationYT If new Lucasfilm vouldn't bring themselves to reunite Leia, Han, and Luke in even a single scene once, why should they ever consider showing a scene where the OG characters show how they care for each other?
Luke is an attempted nephew-killer, Han is a deadbeat dad, and Leia is an incompetent leader.
I like how he praises how Rey doesn't have a family or lineage, only for rise of skywalker to toss that out the window

@@TurfNationYT nice:)
Whats the point of bringing back the old beloved People from the original movies and showing Them as sad failures, did Anyone like seeing Luke as an old, grumpy hermit rotting away on a island?
The same could be said for everything being all sunshine and rainbows. That wouldn’t have been interesting at all. While I certainly didn’t like seeing Luke, Han, and Leia in such a sad state, why does their need to be a sequel trilogy if everything is all sunshine and rainbows ? Truth is Disney should have used the Expanded Universe for their interpretation of Luke. Luke would have been a wise and powerful Jedi Master, but also a man that has lived through some very sad shit. But alas we got what we got, and while it wasn’t what I personally wanted, Luke’s story in The Last Jedi made sense given all that had happened between the two trilogies.
@@amenamen1929 True, the title of episode 4 "A New Hope" was refering to Luke, Luke is a symbol of Hope in the star wars universe. He was always positive, never gave Up even in the darkest times and always Stayed Strong No matter what, i just feel like that was completely forgotten in episode 8.
I agree. In fact, why even have a sequel trilogy? Anakin was the *Chosen One*. The one to bring balance. The sequels shouldn’t even exist since it should have ended with ROTJ. And if there were to be a sequel, set it thousands of years in the future so Anakin didn’t die for basically nothing (he would have still died not saving the galaxy permanently, but thousands of years is a long time). 30 years in a galactic state is nothing, and nothing can die from old age in 30 years.
By the way, beautiful video, honestly I thought I was watching a big youtubers video, keep up the great work :)
Thank you so much man:) I really appreciate it. I hope to see you back in the future
Thank you so much for this video. The Last Jedi is so nuanced and resonates so much with Star Wars that it is my favourite Star Wars movie next to the original trilogy. Making Rey a nobody was absolutely brilliant and so quintessential Star Wars. And taking Kylo Ren to the conclusion of mistaking his evil to being right was just superb cinema. He should have been the overall antagonist but it was ruined by "Palpatine has returned".
You’re welcome!:) there are way more enjoyers of the last Jedi online that it might seem. This channel is friendly
I also love how Luke's projection encompasses his Jedi type, Jedi consular (green lightsabers) They focus on the force unlike Jedi Guardians (blue) who focus on fighting. Like Yoda says, "A Jedi uses the force for knowledge and defence, never attack"
And it also highlights his arc by having him use the blue lightsaber. In the beginning he threw it away like it was nothing, then it the end he used it to fight and save the resistance.
I thought you could either do something with the force or you could not. Not that you could kill yourself using to much of the force.
Was that what Yoda meant when he said that? You literally never attack anyone with the force even though Obi Wan was the one who encouraged Luke to use the force to destroy the Death Star?
@@austinjohnsen4430 Well he didn't attack anyone or Kylo with his force projection. Merely just a diversion to buy time for Fin, Poe and the resistance to escape
@@EngWa But what if he did? Would that have been wrong? Is Luke retroactively wrong for using the force to blow up the Death Star? Is Obi Wan now wrong for encouraging Luke to do it.
It seems to me that most people hate The Last Jedi simply because the story didn’t play out the way it would in their heads. In my opinion, while the story isn’t perfect, it definitely has a great premise and has an emotional message. The problem I mostly have with the film is the way it’s structured, and that it doesn’t feel consistent with The Force Awakens, with regards to Rey and Finn’s character. To me despite being the so called protagonist, Rey feels like a side character used to complete Luke’s arc. Finn is then sent on a mission that in the end has no effect on the overall story, rendering his storyline invalid. In all honesty some days I love The Last Jedi and some days I don’t. As I said I enjoy many aspects of the story, particularly when it comes to Kylo Ren and Luke. Yet I also feel as if the film wastes the main characters stories in order to enhance the side characters stories. While I respect those who believe that The Last Jedi is great, I can also see why some certainly disliked it as well. Of course there are some who absolutely trashed the movie because it didn’t give them what they wanted. I also think it is a bit rash to call it a horrible movie considering the special effects, score, acting, and action sequences were all outstanding. I also think that people had their expectations way to high for this movie considering the previous movie had some very big flaws. In fact every single Star Wars movie has certain flaws, and are in no way perfect. Yet we accept that no film can be perfect, and continue to enjoy the movies we are given. In the end I believe that if you enjoy The Last Jedi, then great, you have the right to. And for those who dislike it you also have the right to. But for those who hate on others for simply enjoying something you didn’t, remember people enjoy different things then you and have the right to, it’s called free will. In the end your hate only dissuades people from associating with something you claim to love, because they fear the hate they will receive for having a different opinion. It’s sad that a franchise that many find great enjoyment from has become another avenue for people to spread hate. But alas that’s the times we live in. Overall great job on the video thanks for spreading love.
Thank you so much man, you speak the truth. I’m glad you enjoyed the video:)
I think it has far more to do with discarding previously established lore and poor writing choices. Some people do not see the issues in characterization, or the plot holes with the story rules from other films, or the unearned moments for the film. Some people just see the pretty lights, hear the music swell and tell you how to feel, and they just accept what is given... no questions asked. I happen to be the former.
It took me a while to work out how I felt about this movie, but I really do love it. Luke on Crait is my favourite Star Wars moment of all time, and the whole movie is just so well written.

@@thorntonwager6750 So the corruption of Luke's character, the attempt to say Holdo was an actual good leader despite her being so bad a first watch has you believe she is a turncoat, the plot holes on the salt planet, the failure in showing any flaws in Rey making her unrelateable, the utter destruction of Finn's potential in the series, the lore destroying Lights peed rewrite that had to be tossed aside in the very next film, the Yoda rewrite that has fans wondering why Yoda and Obi-Wan abandoned Luke altogether in Return of the Jedi, Luke never grieving Han Solo, Luke TAUNTING Kylo after it was his fault he went full Darkside, Luke giving Leia Han 's ex's dice... but not really because force-projection, the complete and utterly unnecessary subplot for Finn and Rose, the infantilization of Phasma which was underwritten for time... like... where to even begin with the letdown?
And all that actually ruined the characters for the next film: Finn has nothing to go on, Poe was demoted even though he saved the Resistance TWICE two days consecutively, Rey was forgotten to be given flaws, Luke killed off after never being rectified, Kylo loses more than he wins and is now a husk of any semblance of intimidation or competence, General Hux even less so, Snoke is killed leaving so many questions unanswered, and Rose never even learned the meaning of sacrifice from her own sister in the beginning of the film. Star war fans are idiots who only expect fan service and the same type of movies over and over again. They don't like actual quality. Most of these " fans" also happen to be fans because of bandwagon mentality. Then it must be bad. Now I'm hating the last Jedi"
@@achyuththouta6957 True, it's why we ended up with TROS.
After seeing the media target any fan that disagreed with it as "toxic", "misogynistic" and "right-wing trolls", I'm done believing any critique or rating from access-media. I could stomach just disliking a film and moving on but, then people LITERALLY made it a personal attack and I have had it with this franchise.
One of the most unique Star Wars movies I have ever seen that takes bold and unexpected directions. At first I didn’t like it, but once I gave it a few more chances my opinion changed drastically for the better.
Still disappoints me that Toxic fans go to such lengths to insult and give death threats to Rian Johnson fur making this incredible Star wars movie.
First time I watched it, I was confused, I didn’t know what to think so I went to the Internet, and was swayed into hating it. The hatred took hold of me for a year and I had become a toxic Star Wars fan, belittling others for liking something I hated, and overtime I began to realize that my behavior was irrational and needlessly Aggressive. Once The Rise of Skywalker had officially come out I was cured of my toxicity to a degree, and became more accepting of others opinions even if I didn’t agree, I tried to be respectful about it. I went into TROS with an open mind, and I found myself loving every second of it which reinvigorated my love for The sequel era. It also helps that I cut myself off from those toxic channels. If anyone’s curious.... it was the Fandom menace, with the primary toxic figure I had followed being Geeks&Gamers who I regret watching to this day.
It takes a strong person to stand against the popular consensus even when you know it's the right thing to do, but it takes an even stronger man to admit that you were wrong at some point and make that change for the better. So I went into TLJ not expecting much because I was disappointed with TFA. I know everyone loved that one but I thought it was just a less charming rip off of A New Hope. I was pleasantly surprised when things started happening that I didn't expect. Luke had changed! Wow. 30 years changes a person. He was jaded. Cantankerous even. As it sometimes happens when people age. I loved it. Unlike Han Solo in TFA who was basically the same self centered character from A New Hope. I mean seriously by Return of the Jedi he was a war hero who actually cared about people. Why have him revert to his old ways 30 years later? For nostalgia's sake?
Another moment I loved in TLJ was when Kylo dropped the bomb about Rey having no lineage. It was absolutely brilliant! Up until then everything was about bloodlines and "chosen ones". This was awesome cause it meant anyone could be great. It was the anti spoiler and it surprised the he'll out of me.
I'm not going to sit here and say it was a perfect film but what Star Wars film is? These aren't ingmar bergman movies. It was clunky and frankly ran on a bit too long but I thought it was refreshing. Too bad Abrams reversed all the cool things Johnson did.

TLJ is a Mixed movie for me it has some great stuff in it but it has equally bad stuff too. I think the biggest problem with this movie is TFA. Because TFA chose not to worldbuild and leave so many questions that needed answers that it basically set up a completely other movie and I think Rian realized how boring the movie is JJ was setting up that he did he‘s own thing and JJ didn’t even tell him anything so the two movies don’t connect that well. I think Rian should have included more worldbuilding in this movie and show us the state of the galaxy. It doesn’t need to be huge just some lines and little things in the background and Rian really should have left somethings open because it ended in a way that ends all the arcs leaving the next movie with not much

I liked it when I first saw it and I still like it now , although I can understand and appreciate why a lot of people don’t there are flaws ( or should I say things I didn’t like ) but also a lot that worked for me personally . For me hands down the best of the sequel trilogy
Yeah, despite its flaws, it's still great
8's flaws are NOTHING compared to the originals and prequels , why do people care about 8's flaws so much , 8 is almost a perfect movie
Amen.
I couldn't watch past "the acting was best in the series" wtaf
Well, considering the most of the OT cast were not really experienced, there was just a few good performances in PT, and this movie had many returning cast that is now legends on the acting field and the rest of performances were good, it think he has a point.
The sequels are more entertaining to me than the prequels are tbh. And TLJ is my least favorite of this, but it's still great. Especially the last act of this movie
The last act is great!
Cannot agree more brother
Thank you man!
TLJ is by far the most interesting of the Sequels and also has the best elements out of the Sequel movies. After re-watching it, I have begun to appreciate it more for what it is as a stand alone movie. All the Grey Jedi deconstructionist aspects are absolutely fascinating and visually, it has some amazing moments of cinematography. However, this is the movie where the Sequel trilogy falls apart. Seriously, it opens some interesting doors, and then just shuts them right in your face. The writing team seemed to not really have a plan with this trilogy and it shows in TLJ. I am not necessarily trying to justify RoS because that was by far the worst Sequel movie, but TLJ really didn't do it any favors. One thing I am really interested in is seeing what other people would have done if they were left with TLJ and had to write a story for RoS. Trying your best to stick with the current canon, what direction would you have wanted the trilogy to go at that point to wrap up? I still think there are plenty of ways they could have made RoS much better.

@Tom Ffrench Ya TFA was a really weak start. It was unoriginal and ultimately failed at worldbuilding. I still feel like it was so basic it was really neither here nor there. They could have salvaged a decent story out of TFA moving forward, but it didn't give them anything great
I usually can't go in anything star wars without someone being like ”blank was better than the last Jedi” or ”this was better than the whole sequel trilogy” and I'm just so tired of all this negativity thrown at something like the sequel trilogy and you'll find that if you just sit down and try to enjoy it might not be as bad as they say it is, I know they're not masterclasses of cinema, they have a lot of problems that bother me a bit but they're what star wars is, fun so thank you for being positive when everyone else is just beating something to death when it's already down.

I respect your opinion and you do have some good points. The movie in itself isn’t all bad. But it’s about the context for me. In my opinion it would have been great if it didn’t take an absolute dump on Star Wars lore and force Rise of Skywalker into trying to patch everything and close off the trilogy. There are so many instances where just a bit of effort would have made it work. I honestly felt like I want watching a Star Wars movie when I watched this in cinemas.

I really don't like The Last Jedi but there many things that are good about it. It just feels a disappointment as a contuation of an on going nine part story. It disappointed me in a way similar to the the last few seasons of The Game of Thrones, especially season eight. Princess Lia humanized Alderaan.
Every single word in this video is reflecting why I LOVED this movie so much!
Can you do a video on why Ris of Skywalker is great, because that movie needs some love. Too many Fandom Menace haters/bullshitters and genuinely negative critical reviews. The movie has a lot more fans than haters, but not many of them speak up.
I mean, you have to at least open your eyes a bit to see the bad parts
Especially the people who say that palpatine was horrible in that film. HOW? Sith eternal emperor palpatine is the best version of palpatine because he actually acts like a true lord of the sith. He’s willing to painfully kill his own granddaughter just to keep himself alive and with no hesitation. I love how evil and powerful he is
I would love that
@@ilikepigeons6101 I know the film is rushed, gives away it's big twist at the start with a gimmicky line, the other leads needed more screentime, the dagger is Goonies-level accurate, and has too many Mcguffins. But, the film concludes the characters arcs very well, the emotional moments are as powerful as ever, the score is amazing, the practical effects are mindblowing, Exegol is the best world of the sequels, the humor is pretty funny, and the original heroes got the perfect swansong.
@@indiecinemaster4699 I'm getting tired of people complaining about the dagger scene
I love the ratio
I'm pretty sure I've already seen this video, I remember the medal thing.
I don't agree with much on how the movie was made and especially how Luke was depicted.
That said, Mark Hamill gave it a 100% despite disagreeing himself with his character's writing. That's a true professional.
About the Rey vs Luke, of course he schooled her. Then when she pulled up the lethal weapon he just went "I'm out". That's not her wining.
Luke is imperfect, but there's things he shouldn't be.
He was ready to save Darth Vader because he thought he had some good in him, but not his nephew because he might turn bad. Plus consider killing a child.
Just the idea that he would entertain that thought even in a fleeing moment isn't consistent with his character.
Then, as Mark said, maybe he could see (with the right reasons) Luke go away for a time. But not decades. I do agree. So this arc could've worked in and of itself.
Last on Luke, even though I don't mind Force Projection (that's a thing he could do in Legends if I'm not mistaken) but it shouldn't have killed him.
He could've died another way in the next movie... Or not at all you know.
Now on the scene with Yoda, I do like it.
And I don't have an issue with his power. Force Ghosts are part of the Force, why should they be able to manipulate it in some way.
And if they can sit on matter, it means they can interact with it to an extent.
Anyways, I'm glad you like the movie better than I personally do.
Cheers from France! 🍻

One of the things I found most intriguing was Rey and Kylo's relationship until the throne room. I don't like the resolution.

@@ryanbarth6691 Yes that is the important thing here. Not liking this film is completely fine, but it doesn't go much deeper than that. Don't be an ass about it
the problem is that TLJ is not a standalone movie; it is meant to be the 2nd in a trilogy. JJ Abrams had one vision with TFA, then Rian Johnson discarded that with his own vision with TLJ, and then the major developments of TLJ (Rey being a nobody so lineage is not important, ie broom boy, the Rose & Finn plot, the resolution to DJ's arc, ) were completely discarded with ROS, which made the TLJ an even worse movie. If Rian Johnson would have done ROS, then maybe all of the controversial decisions of TLJ would have paid off, but instead, as a trilogy, the movies did not have a consistent narrative or internal logic. It would be like in if "The Return of The Jedi" the audience discovered that Darth Vader really wasn't Luke's father, and he was just lying to him in the "Empire Strikes Back," then "The Empire Strikes Back" would have been seen as a worse middle movie.
TLJ is a standalone movie, that was always Rian's intention with it. He created a pocket universe SW movie to play in his own sandbox regardless of the franchise's future. He created it with the mentality of it being standalone in the same vein A New Hope was back in 1977, which was a movie deadset in the middle of a bigger universe.
@@virgogaming6488 it may have been Rian's intention, but he did not create star wars, it has it's own established decades own canon and dedicated fan base. If he wanted to make his own sandbox he should have found funding and made his own movie not in the Star Wars universe. Otherwise it was inappropriate for him to reinterpret existing canon. The only person alive who would be able to get away with reinterpreting existing canon would be George Lucas himself.
@@SerenaHung I know, but that's what makes TLJ interesting is it opens up possibilities for a SW multiverse since it exists in it's own vacuum of space.

Sadly, I feel that TROS retroactively makes TLJ worse because every good choice made, TROS just changes them. Here’s some examples:
-Kylo becomes the main villain. TROS: Nope, Kylo now serves Palpatine.
-Rey is nobody and needs to find her own place. TROS: Nope, Rey is from a grand lineage.
-Kylo destroys his mask. TROS: He fixes it in the first 20 minutes
These points are all true, and it annoyed me for a longtime as well. Only just recently have I gotten over my anger and accepted what TROS is because I just love Star Wars
Fair enough. There is some good in TROS - mainly the Kylo/Han scene - but it was disappointing because now TLJ feels like the odd one out, sandwiched between a pair of derivative films

My opinion is that TLJ took far too many risks and fell flat on its face with the majority of them, for example; taking the climactic final scene of the previous movie and turning it into a goof really didn't work for me, let alone Luke's weird character shift. Rian Johnson wanted to tell his own story and all the rest of it, and that's fine, I just don't think he should've done it with the middle film in a trilogy. Perhaps if he waited until later on what Rian was trying to do would've worked better as an isolated story.

I loved this film so much. Easily one of my top three Star Wars films. A lot of people misunderstand the themes and characters about it. People say that Finn had the same arc from the force awakens, that’s not the case. It was an evolution. In the force awakens, he learns to fight for someone but in this, he has already fought for that person and tries to run. Rose teaches him that you should fight for a cause greater than yourself and people close to you. Rose learns that blowing yourself up won’t win the day. She saves finn for sacrificing himself, not because she’s selfish. But because, if Finn stopped the canon, another canon would be replaced rendering his sacrifice useless.
Luke becomes the ultimate Jedi, not because he kills kylo in a laser fight. But because he resolves conflict peacefully like Yoda taught him. He fails to save Kylo in the Jedi Temple because he resorts to violence to solve the conflict.
A lot of people say that Holdo is just there to pander the “feminists” or “sjws” and that she doesn’t tell Poe the plan because he is a man and that Disney thinks that women are always right. Holdo does not have a plan, and she is a bad leader, but after realising that people within the resistance are getting distressed and the lives that have been lost because of her leadership. She does the one thing she believes will work, sacrificing herself.
Rey being nobody is such a great twist as it hurts the audience like Empire’s twist did. It changes our world view and shows that you aren’t defined by who your past and relatives. You can be hero and come from nothing. This is reinforced at the end with the broom boy and how there are trillions of people like rey who can be a hero if they have spirit and determination
Although I really like the last Jedi. There are a lot of problems with it, mainly pacing and length. However this is easily one the best star wars films as it challenges the audience and has character driven emotional scenes while still having enough spectacle and action. Great review and Underrated movie.
