Just to note: Snow White's age was never said in the movie neither confirmed by anyone who worked on it. Same goes with the prince. If I'm not wrong, these ages comes from the original fary tale.
Also, why do people think these are the true ages? None of them look lesser than 20 years old.
I could at least buy the animated Snow White being 14 because she looks young, but there is no way you can convince me that her prince is at least 30 years old. He looks like he is still a teenager to me, I would say in the age range of 16 to 18 years old.
While her opinion is a controversial one and not good for advertising the movie, it's not really a reason to hate her. She didn't write the movie or make the changes and it's not the end of the world that she doesn't like the original movie.

Maybe it's less about her opinion and more about how her personality comes across when giving said opinion.
I remember seeing a video that claimed to prove how Brie Larson's co-stars all hate her, and I'm not adverse to a bit of celebrity gossip so I clicked.
It was Jeremy Renner's nose twitching a little around about the same time as Larson was saying something. That was it, that was the full sum of their evidence.
Those hate channels are a fricking joke.

That was extremely weird that they tried to claim that her costars from the MCU hated her. The only opinion I actually heard from one of her MCU costars was Chris Evans who likes her and was friends with her ever since they worked together on Scott Pilgrim.
While I may heavily disagree with her artistic interpretation on Disney's Snow White, she doesn't deserve to be harassed or be the target of 10,000 videos on Movie Commentary channels.
Turf Nation, I believe the reason all this is happening is due to multiple factors which amplifies this situation.
- The Original Snow White was not only the start of Disney's big movie career, but feels a lot different compared to today's movies, not necessarily being of "Muh Politics" (by these channels) but by a more different artistic interpretation: Sincerity.
- Sincerity in the Movie Industry (Especially the family oriented movie industry) has been almost completed wiped out, due to movies deconstructing and poking fun at fairytale/fantasy tropes. (Shrek, Chicken Little, Enchanted to some degree, even Frozen isn't too sincere in some of its story). This had also been in the time for a more inclusive approach which in retrospect, was the worst possible time for these two events to happen near each other. Nowadays, when someone talks about an inclusive movie, usually 9 times out of 10, it either has a lot of meta-commentary or it can be a bit sarcastic in some of its themes. This is not necessarily a bad thing, we all have our own tastes. It's just very difficult to find and create a movie as "sincere and artistically stylized in terms of how seriously the story takes itself." with protagonists that aren't just straight white dudes talking philosophically in a empty room.
- Disney has been known to not be interested in sincere storytelling because a lot of their higher ups do believe that "The young kids like TikTok humor or Buzzfeed articles! Gotta follow the money." This unfortunately leads to them "claiming' to want more diverse movies when in practice they just remake things with the main character now POC. How exciting would it be to be a black kid in 2009 when Princess and the Frog came out with the same beloved 2D animation as their previous movies. That felt sincere since the plot of the movie does talk sincerely about race issues without it contrasting with the fantasy and songs too much. You know what I mean? As someone who is a POC, I would prefer Disney to tackle a new story with a Latina Princess! Heck! They already did if you count Disney Junior's "Elena of Avalor." Their capitalist greed is unfortunately revealing a bit of their true colors.
- There were a lot of internet critics back in the day who actually took issue with princesses like Ariel, Belle, Jasmine, and Cinderella. (mostly Buzzfeed Articles) Using very flawed arguments (like Cinderella could "just like 🤓" )which I would argue is anti-feminist and more problematic than anything in the animated Cinderella film. The culture of "making fun of cringe" has unfortunately made its way to the real world where people are harassed for simply trying to act "silly or unusual".
- I genuinely think people now just really want a type of snow white movie similar too, But not exactly like the animated one. Think about it this way, when the animated film first released, America was still living near the Great Depression, people were more nihilistic, The horrors of WW2 were almost at their doorstep, and people genuinely though the world around them was about to come crashing down. Along comes Snow White with it's bright colors, sincere (and adorable) dwarves who build a friendship with Snow White, The Evil Queen being defeated as good conquers evil, and Snow White getting her own happily ever after. No wonder why so many people get attached to it. (Note: Yes, as a movie, it can still demonstrate problematic aspects, I specifically referring to the general "tone" of the movie). Fast Forward to today, Russia is still trying to Annex Ukraine, The Palestinian People are suffering like never before, One of our two choices for political candidates is quoting Adolf Hitler and the other isn't as progressive as many people believe, Climate Change is taking effect, AND mass shootings are commonplace. I can abolsutely understand the poor souls who would love a more faithful adaption from the animated feature into live-action. HOWEVER, this does not mean it is okay to go and harass the actress for having a different artistic approach. That's the exact opposite of what the "real snow white would do" anyway. I genuinely feel like both liberals and conservatives are so bafflingly bankrupt when it comes to media analysis. I watched the Original Snow White and I understood it. Can't say that for Geeks and Gamers or Nerdrodic.
In conclusion: The Problem is not Rachel Ziegler, nor her own opinion. The more systemic problem is that Hollywood needs more genuine diversity. Not just with characters who are LGBTQ+, women, or disabled folks. I also mean diversity in terms of goin beyond thinking of Capitalism and experimenting with film more that it doesn't just rely on "Post-modern meta humor irony haha I subverted your expectations now give me money." I would love to see sincere movies, more experimental surrealist films, romanticism films, and others. TLDR: Hollywood's obsession's with realism, rejection of creativity and escapism, and the products of late stage capitalism combine to create an environment where people like Rachel Ziegler can be used to endlessly prop up a false culture war when the problem isn't her, it's a more nuanced and complex situation that Hollywood has found itself in in their recent years.

I think the problem may have started with the Star Wars prequel trilogy. Instead of saying "I don't like the new movies" and just not rewatching them, people chose to accuse George Lucas of "raping my childhood" and sent hate mail to actors like Ahmed Best and young Jake Lloyd.

The entire idea of Snow White being 14 and the Prince being in his 30's is actually a myth. His age is never actually specified at all.
I honestly feel so bad for Zegler. Not only because she’s getting all this racist hatred, but because it all happened as a result of getting casted in a crappy a$$ Disney live-action remake. The Fandom Menace will just pin the blame on how she isn’t the race that the original film had or take her out of context to make her look bad as reasons why the movie will be bad when she will more than likely be the best part about the movie. I used to think she was the most insufferable actress in Hollywood after her comment about Snow White.... until I saw her singing in The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. It became one of my favorite movie performances in 2023 and I want to see that Snow White Remake now. She's the best singer actress in Hollywood. Period. (and one of the prettiest too)

The original Snow White is a historically important film...maybe one of the most important American films ever made.
I love it.
But its also beyond reasonable to merely acknowledge that gee, a film that's almost 100 years old doesn't have perfectly aged gender politics.
A movie can be both great and classic and dated in certain aspects. Its OK!
But there is something to be said about big studios like Disney thinking "strong female characters" means always makimg them the same character: a hyper-indepedent girl-boss type.

to be fair I would probably not like the new snow white Disney remake based on Disney's track records for their remakes but the response from the right was harsh even by their standards even going as far as the daily wire starting to make a Disney ripoff company.

This comment section is just as toxic as the anti-woke ones. I don't know much about wokeness, but I can say one thing: the raise of intersectional feminism in media has divided the audience. That much is true. The political landscape has changed for the worse. We are not as united as we used to be. Movies, games, music and all entertainment hasn't been this divisive for at least a century. Companies can no longer stay neutral and they're forced into the culture war - even if their product has nothing to do with it. A company could freely be univolved, be leftist or right wing. But these days, if you're not left wing, big investors don't even invest on you or in the worst case scenario, you are denied loans.

I also think that it is hypocritical from the left to criticize whitewashing but giving colorwashing a free pass. I don’t think that most people hate Rachel, but they are definitely angry at her for her comments. You are right that we shouldn’t complain too much about colorwashing, but you must admit that it is a lazy way to have more diversity. If we are interested in more diversity we should explore more Africans fairy tales, or African princesses, ect. Moviies are part of the entertainment industry and companies wants to make money. Alienating most of your customers is a bold strategy and we have seen almost all Disney movies bomb this year. GoG3 made few bucks, but other Disney movies have been failures.

You say she doesn't have any power over the show however I think her langauge disagrees. Through out interviews, she uses the inclusive word "We" instead of "They". This implies she MIGHT have had a say in it, just like how Emma Watson had a say in Belle's character, but it DEFINITELY implies she agrees and associates herself with the choices made about the movie, choices which Snow white fans are not a fan of.
Another reason people may dislike her is her smug and belittling attitude towards the old snow white. She shows a lack of appreciation and understanding for the good characteristics of the movie during interviews, she doesn't know why people enjoy old snow white and doesn't bother to know. She only praises the NEW BETTER version of the movie. No fan would enjoy this behaviour from an actress who's supposed to play their favorite disney princess.
I also disagree with recent casting choices like ariel, snow white, and tinkerbell because when I hear the word live-action, I expect to see the human version of the animated version. I don't care what race they are, just do it like Enchanted's Giselle. She said things that I am not surprised garnered such a backlash but there are also a lot of positive things out there about her. Disney as an organization has really thrown her under the bus and should have provided better guidance. But Disney as an organization seems to be imploding and rotting top down and bottom up. I have heard a lot of parents in my circle of friends talking about avoiding Disney. Great video, mate! I can always rely on you to make a well-rounded summation of what is by en large a flood of bad-faith criticism. Personally, I've never cared for the Disney live-action remakes. They just don't appeal to me since the original animated films are good enough on their own, even if they have outdated/problematic elements by today's standards.
Even so, I can still respect the cast and crew behind these films making art they enjoy, giving their own takes on classic stories. It's a common thing for authors to do, and can give a new perspective on a genre we know and love. Hell, that's exactly what Godzilla Minus One does, and it's an incredible film for it!
This outrage farming is just more exploitation of angry white men who can't stand not being exclusively the focus of attention in art anymore. I very much doubt any of these grifters cared about Disney Princesses before they went "woke".
I hope those who do enjoy the remakes get something out of this one, too. There should never be any shame for enjoying art, so long as it doesn't invoke harm on anybody.

I think our messages should evolve as our culture evolves. I think that women should be able to do what they want and should be encouraged to live their own lives not defined by romance or traditional gender roles. Young people don't want to be a traditional Disney princess. The thing that a lot of these grifters don't realize is that Gen Z or Alpha young people don't quite have the same views on what woman should want to be and a generic marriage fantasy won't work out. There was definitely a route the movie could've taken with updating the romance but I don't think it's a necessary part of the story.

I work in a clothing store and we sell Disney stuff, when the new Little Mermaid was shown in cinemas a lot of little black girls were asking for Little Mermaid clothing and I couldn’t help but smile since growing up in the 90s all princess were mostly white since i am person of colour
