  • In this video, Greg and Erik finish the floor joists - well, all but the deck joists because they contemplate and talk it out and finally make a decision to wait on completing them. So, because this job gets put on hold, they move to blocking and finish that.
    It's really great to see all of this going up and really creating a better picture of our home. We can now see where the stairs will go, our bedroom space, the bathroom - with each project we are able to picture our home a little more and that is exciting.
    We are milling our barndominium - barn house out of wood that we are milling on our own sawmill. If you haven't followed along with our BARN Build, (which is now our barn house build) make sure to check out that series in our playlists. We finished the first slab last summer, we milled most of the timbers needed over this past winter/spring, added plumbing, put in a second slab for our garage and now we have started building our barndominium - barnhouse - lodge - our home, with 8 bents going up being the latest excitement! Now, we are working on securing the bents and adding to the structure.
    Here's the video where all 8 bents are put up in one day- it was pretty amazing:
    • It's FINALLY Time To B...
    Here's the video where we share our change in plans and decide to turn our barn into our home:
    • EVERYTHING Had To CHAN...
    Here is the video where we share our barn plans. Our plans are from ‪‪‪‪‪‪‪‪‪‪@BarnGeek‬ . We are excited to build one of his beautiful barns and turn it into our home:
    • Why Do We Think WE CAN...
    ***We are also so excited to have completed our sawmill cover enclosure (sawmill shed). Definitely check out our Sawmill Playlist to watch it all happen. We have shared the process of building our sawmill cover from the very beginning. We have a Woodland Mills HM130 Max sawmill and we live in North Idaho. The sawmill cover / sawmill shed is vital to continue milling for our barn build in the winter months, but it will also be a great way to keep out of the sun during the summer months, and of course all of the rain, in between!
    Here is a link to the video that shares the sawmill cover / sawmill shed build from start to finish:
    • Sawmill Cover Build - ...
    Here are the specs on the sawmill cover / sawmill shed we built:
    3 posts in the front
    4 posts in the back
    Overall dimensions are 15 feet wide by 36 feet long
    Longest beam is 28 feet
    Front part of the lean to roof is 11'9" and back is 8'
    It will have a 3 :12 pitch
    Posts and beams are going to be 7 1/2" x 7 1/2"
    We have shared the entire build!

    It sure was nice to have Erik back out helping on the barndominium build! We worked on floor joists and blocking- both pretty tedious tasks, but nice to have the help for sure - makes the tasks go by a little faster! Hope you enjoy this video. 😊

      Hi, Justin- Pretty much! It’s funny…Beth told our little boy that I was at work and he said, no- that’s not work, that’s his job. So, to him when I’m at the sawmill/ build site, I’m working. And, when at my “real job”, I’m at my job. 😂
      It’s definitely a busy time, but we think it will totally be worth it. It also helps that our build is right next to where we are currently living. 😁

    Your 65' brings back memories. Almost was my first vehicle. That one had just too much rust. Is yours a 3 on the tree?

    • @ourdreaminthewoods
      @ourdreaminthewoods  Місяць тому +2

      Hi- This 65 has four on the floor. But I restored a 53 Ford Customline in high school that had three on the tree with a fladhead and straight pipes. Beth went to prom in that car😁

    Maybe should have placed floor joists on top of beams to show heavy beams from below for effect.just my thoughts.

    • @ourdreaminthewoods
      @ourdreaminthewoods  Місяць тому +1

      That would have looked awesome- we will still see a part of the beams on the first floor. Second floor will definitely have better views of beams. We had to make some sacrifices for that second floor, but worth it for the extra space. 😊

    • @ourdreaminthewoods
      @ourdreaminthewoods  Місяць тому +1

      Hi, we purchased our plans through @barngeek . Aaron then customized them for us. He’s great to work with!
      Price for our build- honestly, it’s TBD. And it all depends on your choices. We our using SIPP panels, standing seam metal roof, lots windows….all adding to the cost. It’s not cheap. But, where we live, it’s definitely less than a custom build. Hope that helps!

    Deck joists should be treated. The ledger board should be held off the house by 2" blocks to help prevent rot when the snow melts and freezes. This is done in cold winter states were the water can sit for long periods of time.

    • @ourdreaminthewoods
      @ourdreaminthewoods  Місяць тому +2

      Hi, Bill- the deck will be covered, does that make a difference?

    • @billthompson9482
      @billthompson9482 Місяць тому +3

      @@ourdreaminthewoods If snow can sit on it for long periods of time i would do as i pointed out above. In VT house rot next to decks is very common and keeps carpenters very busy . Ice shield Water proofing under the sheathing is a must, air flow is also necessary. I have seen $1,000,000 log cabins turn to mush.
