- So with no F1 for the next milenia, I decided I'd try out Formula E again... I've been critical of the series in the past, though the two races in Berlin this weekend sure were interesting... here's my take on the weekend...

I still don't believe that some people just went and protest a E Prix
I know right??? You think they'd be pushing for all motorsport to be electric
they glued themselves on a runway in the berlin airport before
If you really want to be anal and adenoids about it then formula E isn't any better than any other Motorsport because the main emissions come from the logistics. And jetting the cars and equipment about everywhere.
But of course I highly doubt these bellends are clever enough to consider that. I imagine their thought process extended to "car racing bad" followed by "HOW DARE PEOPLE ENJOY THINGS"
just today they blocked like 30 roads, they don't care if it is electric or not, they just wanna be seen.
Because they aren't actual protestors.
They are funded by the daughter of an oil mogul
The thing in FE is that even if the race itself isn't great you can always count on Ticktum, Sette Camara, Lotterer, Bird and so on to cause chaos
Take the F2 rejects, put them in oversized electric go-carts with aero producing 0 downforce but alot of debris and enjoy an hour of clown fiesta.
@@Cloney1337 Exactly
@@Cloney1337 calling Lotterer a F2 reject is crazy
@Timmy Nicolas Vandoorne’s an F1 reject, it’s better pr.
@@Cloney1337 calling a Le Mans, WEC, Super GT, formula nippon (now Super Formula) champion an F2 reject lol get a life mate.
The fact that Abt went from the 2019 Williams to having a front row lockout was insane
and then quickly back to being 2022 williams
they did a haas
qualifying really well then remembering their car sucks
Anything can happen
@@szandorthe13th As a Leclerc+Russell fan, this comment makes me cry

I will say some of the gimmicks aren't great, but on the other hand, I genuinely like Formula E, the racing tends to be exciting, some of the drivers are genuinely quite good, and personally I love both the design of the cars, and the strategy of having to plan for your energy usage over the whole race. Throw in that these cars are super light and quite small compared to current F1 cars... At least Monaco is usually a great race for FE!
I think formula E is fun cause like in gt racing there are "rookies" allowed too.
De Vries was their 2x champion and is currently the worst driver in F1.
There are no standards in Fe.
@@bartandaelus359 De Vries only won it once, and was no where the year after.
He won mostly due to the Qualy format, and being in the by far best team rather than any being outright the best person there. The driving standards are the highest in the world outside F1.
@@Garfie489 I'd argue the ones in the MotoGP and WRC are higher
@@eggselent9814nd WEC, and Super Formula. Far, far higher.
And honestly, Indycar and Formula 2 too.
this race was such a banger, i definitly chose the right race to watch live
I've seen banger races with less crashes.
Every race is a banger at the moment!
@@maximus0g933 *except F1
@RezLevin Yeah I meant FE but that is definitely true compared to WEC and IMSA and GTWC as well 🤣
Only Will is capable of making me watch an FE video
😂😂😂😂 I’m too good
@@FP1Will maybe you can cover the nascar Xfinity series race yesterday. Spoiler alert, THEY HAD 2 FLIPS
@@D_Alleyne2005 yes
Imagine protesting an environmentally friendly racing event 😂
the event isn't environmentally friendly. Racing the car is kinda, everything else is a huge emission emitter
@@garysanderson5774 No?
The generated electricity is made with no emissions.
Pretty much the only thing that does create them is getting the car to the track, which they use the least emission spouting plane possible for.
And even F1 pales in comparison to what not motorsport related things generate in terms of emissions
@@lucasgamezz140 "Pretty Much The Only Thing" is 99% of the emission mate, the energy for the car is only less than 1% in F1. The fan and team logistics emits a ton of emission so FE racing EV does nothing
FE is basically an environmental greenwashing gimmick by the FIA, "the least emmission spouting plane possible" is still incredibly bad for the envionment and the overall emmissions caused by each race will still be huge
@@ailishbrennan656 "Huge"
Mate. Thousands of flights with planes that spout more emissions happen every hour, thousands of factories are pumping shit into the air, and you are worried about like 2 flights a month?
Saturday was great, Sunday was very good. Formula E has really hit its stride this year and almost every race has been excellent.
Honestly, I know you're hatrid of Formula E, but give it another go. Season 9 has been an absolute banger. Honestly, Berlin Race 2 would have to be in the bottom 3 of this seasons 8 races, given the spectacular races in Hyderabad (I'm a Jag fan, we don't talk about Hyderabad), Cape Town and Sao Paulo. Also, next up, Monaco, where they will more than happily run 3 wide into any corner. Honestly, now Fan Boost is gone, I can't really fault the series, however I would like the 45 minutes a race back. Also, Formula E qualifying is the superior qualifying.
It's basically the same as the old 45 minute format because they add on laps just like they added time last year. They just changed it because people were used to the lap based format from F1.
F1 would definitely do well to trial the FE quali format but they're way too proud to ever admit to copying something from a lesser series...
@@wiegraf9009 Oh, I agree with the fact that it’s kinda the same, extra laps instead of extra minutes, but Mexico S7 springs to mind with energy management, when the Porches completely ruined everyone’s race by making it go an extra lap, that was entertaining.
I would love to see knockout Quali be used in the Monaco F1 weekend, either a direct copy and paste or Q1, Q2, Knockouts, would actually be more entertaining than the race! 😂
@@wiegraf9009 " but they're way too proud to ever admit to copying something from a lesser series..."
BIG OOF.
Two things about this:
1. They literally copied Sprint races dircetly from their own FEEDER series
2. The FIA makes rule books and the FIA organizes both. They couldnt give a flying fck where the idea is coming from.
They have put it there in the first place.
But at least weve been needlessly negative about something.
Its not like all this stuff has more than enough *real reasons* to critizise it
The fact the different years are called "seasons" tells you a lot about who watches FE
@@gandalf_thegrey Fair enough about point 1, but in the case of point 2 changes in racing format tend to be pitched by FOM for entertainment or commercial reasons and then they work out the details with the FIA.
Formula E definitely is one of those series that gets hated a lot. Can’t deny that the racing is chaos almost everytime tho as a person having followed it from the start
Wow, really amazing of you to cover this topic. I too don't watch Formula E a lot, but with no other motorsport to watch I gave it a go and didn't regret. Total of 382 overtakes, 190 and 192 each day. Love your style of content, keep it up. Someday I'll be commenting among your million plus audience and you wouldn't even know.
thanks so much dude!
There was LOADS of motorsport to watch this weekend, most of it free on UA-cam: GT World Challenge, GT4 European series, GT2 Series, BTCC opening weekend, European Le Mans Series. If you're looking for non-f1 content, YT is your friend. You can watch all of the live streams on catchup too.
@@jahvyn I'm new into motosports just watch Formula 1 mainly, and other than that MotoGP or Formula E sometimes but I do have an interest in GT racing and WEC as well so might watch them too sometime in the future.
@@anchitjaiswal299 I really recommend checking out GT World here on YT. They have excellent coverage of all the SRO series across the globe. The cars look and sound incredible and the commentary is great; calm and informative. Some of the top drivers are absolute monsters.
Don't get me wrong, I also like F1, but GT racing has become my favourite over the past year or so. There's a whole world of incredible, free to view coverage! Enjoy!
As a new motorsports fan who barely know anything about motorsports, I only watched few f1 and fe races and I'm actually liking formula e more despite having slower cars
That was a pretty enjoyable weekend of FE overall, but Cassidy's delirious team radio rant takes the cake.
"driving standards" - mate you watch nascar where the drivers have the mental maturity of a 13 year old
The IMSA long beach race was so good you should look into it 😅
So much for my sleep schedule 😂😂
Still feels a bit like wacky races at times. Never been a big fan myself. Think an Indy car style push to pass would be better rather than that ‘turbo zone’
I do prefer the push to pass, might work well with these “attack charge” pit stops fe are meant to be bringing in
Came for FE, subscribed and hope for more ...also, Ticktum practicing running imaginary drivers in to the wall... I pissed my pants 😂
Not a Formula e convert yet, but a great way to fill in a non-F1 weekend. Loving your style Will. Many thanks.
See, I feel as though with a different energy you could have made this sound like this was the most entertaining race in the world lol. I watched it live and loved every second
Dan Ticktum just being Dan Ticktum there with his beautiful "energy targets" 🤣
All it needs is the inevitable appearance of Danny Ric next season...........
As someone who works at a TV station and was forced to broadcast this all weekend, I appreciate you covering it Will.
Then quit you coward
The best joke in this video is when you accused someone else of having "cringey presentation".
That was such a chaotic race!
The Saturday race was very good. The full experience including the fan village, food, entertainment… was absolutely amazing!
7:30 Dude who shat in that guys coffe lmao
Never thought you would make a comedy review of an E-prix... Imagine my surprise! Good races and a good review to boot.
I've been a casual FE fan for a couple of years. This year has been a banger so far though, the racing is so entertaining. definitely gonna watch all the races
Visit some events. worth it.
I knew you where gonna make one of these for this race 😂😂
how could I not!
I was honestly hoping Ticktum would do well.
Theres also something exciting about not knowing who will win cause no one seems to want the lead.
Despite all the incidents.. calling this race a mess is definitely uncalled for. In terms of racing, it was absolutely brilliant. Seeing how no one wanted to lead only added to the strategy in the races, and made aero a factor in a usually aero-redundant series. Absolutely incredible weekend for FE.. title was a bit clickbait worthy
I mean a mess race but with a positive reason I guess...
Will if you had nothing to do this weekend, you should've checked out the Croatia Rally, also the GTWCE had it's first round at Monza and it was fantastic as expected
And don't forget the gt4 european series at monza too. Both races are a great way to start the gt4 eu season.
I love your channel.. funny shit. So great. Keep it up bro!!
Thanks FP1Will. I really appreciate this sort of race review content as it means I don't have to watch the race.
At least attack mode isn’t like fan boost was. Attack mode reminds me a little bit of rallycross joker laps, a mandatory longer lap but in fe you get a boost.
never even seen formula E but at this point I trust this channel.... did not disappoint. good sht
You should make more Formula E videos!
This reminds me of bumper cars at the fair when I was a kid in the 70s.
Will, like your style! Keep doing the way you are
thanks so much man!
It's got some growing up to do but I can't help myself as there is so much action and 2 kiwis for me to follow.... I am becoming a fan.
PS I don't like your point but liked the video as it was well-done and enjoyed it.
I was there on the second day in Berlin! I'm still driving back home today, was a massive day! Loved it last year and loved it this one
So I held the same stance with formula E at first, why does it need the gimics and what about the engine sounds (ik you didn't make that point but it is something alot of people hate) But as soon as I watched a season 3 I think, as they were all uploaded onto UA-cam in full, I fell in love. It felt like watching a video game be brought to life. And with the improvements that are constantly coming in it is become a really good a fun race!! It is also differant enough to spark interest and even leave doors open for more strange ideas that are more applicable and doable with electric cars. Idk its just a fun differant kind of racing that is usually eventful, even if it is because a few forget they are professional drivers and not Billy Joe coming home drunk from the bar 😂😂 amazing video tho man!! As always
When the climate protestors invaded the track at Silverstone last year, I noted that the only thing that would have been stupider would have been to target Formula E with their idiocy. *IT WAS NOT MEANT TO BE A CHALLENGE.*
tmw the best McLaren-branded car this weekend was an entirely-unrelated company sponsoring a NASCAR Cup series car
Ah yes, my first Formula E race that I watched was this.
@@kuckoo9036 ive seen footage of some of the pileups but this is the first thing ive seen from start to finish (second race) and that was cleaner than form formula ford or even formula v
F1 fans watching F1: they have to do the whole race on one tank of fuel, such strategy required to conserve to the end! Incredible!
F1 fans watching FE: they have to do the whole race on one battery, and conserve power to make it to the end? This series is stupid.
Except in F1 fuel saving isn't the be all and end all of the racing like FE. It's only the teams in F1 who choose to under fuel for the weight saving and get it wrong who sometimes have the problem.
Nice video, tho formula e is one of my favorite motorsports, this made laugh alot, can you do this comedy review for wec as well? I mean I understand it has longer races, just curious
Same
Formula E has almost too much chaos at this point, I'd wish there was a bit more racing than waiting for the others to pass you. But thats the current state of things, forced by the idea of giving drivers not enough energy to go as fast as possible until the end. I've been watching this series since the very first race and so far this season has been the best this championship has ever looked. Got rid of the dumb gimmick that was fanboost, much more powerful cars so it looks like actual racing and with the proper layout they also now go stupidly quick too. Just awesome to watch. And then there is this chaos. As much as you can talk trash about these drivers, those cars are stupidly hard to keep pointing in the right direction, even in the dry. Even the presentation has taken a big step, although I wish we'd see the track a lot more than we see the team principals. Capturing emotions yes, but with so much going on I really hate missing half of the action because I see the team principals. I believe once the recharge stuff is implemented, we'll see this championship take another step into the right direction. If we can have this mess without the need for attack mode (that massively boosts the overtake counts in an artificial way), then I'd claim this is the best racing series of the world.
I wonder if you knew about Buemi having some broken bones in his hand after that crash during the Brazil race. Makes his efforts look much more impressive.
Drive zero emission cars to advertise electric cars
make them save energy every corner, every lap, every straight to show people how great it is to drive electric
yeah, it leads to pack racing and thus a gazillian overtakes/lead changes. But not to great racing.
This is what happens when you couple the most relevant disavantage EVs have (autonomy) and decide that will not stop you from creating an entire high performace racing series which likes to pretend this disavantage doesn't exist.
This was my first Formula e races ever and it was carnage, shame it wasn’t wet for the whole day (we’ll race 2 anyway)
"I've had very little to do . . ." suggest watching Indy Car Races and Nascar . . . .oh, and a little golfing match called The Masters (Rahm) was held and/or NBA and NHL playoffs (can a Canadian Team FINALLY win a Stanley Cup again?? [the Canadiens won " thousands" but that was years ago . . .] ). BTW, a small little race (won last year by a former F1 driver) called The Indy 500 coming up . . .all of May has Indy Car stuff.
i was there, great weekend would do it again
One thing that Formula E has going for it is, if you asked someone from 2005 how race cars will look like in 50 years they would have come up with something like the Gen 3 car. Thank you for coming to my Travis talk.
Dan Ticktum! The biggest environmental hazard on a racing track since protesters.
Formula E is a full contact sport.
Although they have to do something about the leading the race stuff.
Maybe the in-race recharging will help.
I think in-race charging will be introduced soon.
My Heart will always belong to British Touring Cars, those boys know how to swap paint
I always think it's ironic that the BTCC, famed for being Motorsport's rugby and famed for some of the most elbows out racing in the world, has much cleaner racing standards than a world fecking championship...
(As sad as I am Dynamics aren't there this year Donny did deliver at least)
This is one of the reasons I love FE so much, yea its messy and sometimes devolves into bumper cars but it is damn good fun to watch!
can you do the same with the Portland E-Prix
It was record-breaking
If only fans in America can actually watch the second race. Second time in a row we haven’t been able to watch the second leg of the weekend
I would love more formula E reviews! Keep em coming!
Wish I could've seen the chaos of the e-prix, but my mom was getting married over the weekend so I couldn't see it. Shame to have missed this glorious gladiatorial grand prix
If you think this is bad Will you should see GTWCE Monza and any BTCC Race and the Michelin Le Mans Cup
It won't be a proper racing series until it is held on anything but cramped, point and squirt street circuits. That is the true thing holding them back, the cars just don't have the high speed performance.
"People with opinions I don't agree with and minorly incovenience a race series I only watch for work deserve death" - Least Bloodthirty Reactionary
Ah this is nothin compared to the xfinity race at talladega that was full ricky bobby
The Sam Bird slander's a bit much isn't it? Over the years in FE (and he's been in it since the very beginning) I can't think of many major incidents he's been involved in that were wholly his fault, apart from in Hong Kong 2019 and Hyderabad this season.
Now they've got rid of the stupid fan boost thing - where only the same 5-7 drivers a season ever got it - it's definitely improved the show. Though if it were held on actual race tracks, it would be a lot better. A few were held like that in 2021 (IIRC - my brain kind of melted at the start of lockdown and I haven't quite caught up with the rest of the world yet) and they were far better - except for the bloody fan boost. Proper tracks are generally a lot wider, and you can see more than just the few cars between the walls that get chosen as _the_ camera angle... 🤦🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️
Will made a Formula E video and Abt locked out the front row. What parallel universe is this?
😂😂😂😂
The constant management needs to stop. They need to shorten the raises or increase the power available so this isn't even possible. That wasn't racing. It was musical chairs
Protestors sitting in the Formula E track.
Such a Berlin thing to do.
Galaga Prix: Race of the Polygons
Seems like formula e is the equivalent of the librarian sauntering over to give a passionate SHHHHHHHHH!
Some people like caos, that's why many love Indy. I prefer clean strategic races. FE Kind of fail in both aspects
What abaut the italy e-prix?
You guys didn't see anything, watch the NASCAR race at Talladega THAT WAS INSANE.
7:26 if my mom was a man 😭😭😭😭😭 never thought i would hear this from a professional race driver
@FP1Will can you do a video on NASCAR?
What could they possibly protest in formula E? Are they mad because you can’t recycle lithium?
I can't believe people show up to watch a race where nobody wants to be in the lead.
Sadly for Formula E, most of us can't be arsed watching it, and would rather watch the comedy review for shits and giggles.
I think the 'mickey mouse' nature of parts of some tracks (or whole tracks) results in incidents which spoil the 'pure' race. But then it may just be another gimick. Do they still do 'fan boost' where selected drivers get more power for a period of time?
Nope! Fanboost is gone this year
Still cant get into FE,hate the way they look, not sold on the whole "E" thing but sinceF1 is on a break i guess theres no option on the old UA-cam for openwheel racing.
I just found and started watching the 2023 berlin formula E race, I'm not seeing any of this
Fe is only on street circuits for a whole season. Let's do that with F1 too and see how many DNF there are each race...
The irony is they do their pre season testing on the Barcelona F1 track. Let's face it, FE won't be taken seriously until it can run a decent race distance on a proper race circuit.
@@I_Evo They dont. They do pre season testing on a Valencia circuit thats not the one used for F1
Gimmicks aside, I think F-E is up there when it comes to the entertainment factor. Not manufactured either. I don't watch it all the time but when I do I'm always on the edge of my seat.
Finally someone commenting on Formula e! Great video!
Thanks for the review! I will look up to your opinion on upcoming FE races, it is nice for a change to hear from someone whose critics don't boil down to "muh sound" and "anything other than ICE is gay and even worse, COMMUNIST".
As for the most annoying gimmick, fanboost - it is almost like it was removed not because it influenced too much, but because it influenced too little and didn't drive people into social media like it was meant to. Drivers frequently didn't even use it because it was good for like 0,5 overtake and conserving energy in the last 1/3 of the race was more important.
Yep, when you spend the weekend watching Formula E, you know the break in the F1 has been too long. I'd seen Ticktum's comment about some of the Formula E drivers are better than the F1 drivers, so was interested to see who he could possibly mean. ...still wondering...
There were 2 FRECA races at Imola too. Those guys know how to cause a SC or two, as well.
What the protester did on the track?
Best race is Monaco. They use full GP layout now and they have actual overtakes.
Put ticktum in one of these cars and you have chaos guaranteed
It's Formula E, they make NASCAR look disciplined

You know, this Formule E stuff might actually be succesfull if we wouldn't have to migrate to the UK to watch it... Just like the W-series, I don't understand why you would create some niche racing series under the banner of the FIA Formula label and then not putting it in F1TV so the fans of your big name racing series can actually watch it.
Because F1TV is a service created by liberty media (who own F1)
Wat happend to the cars they look hilarious
I'm kinda surprised those lost generation kids were smart enough to glue themselves to a local event instead of, for example, flying to the Arabian desert and glue themselves to the sand to protest the Dakar
Monaco e-Prix vid pls
Despite how much I like Formula e, I do gotta agree, the driving standars could be a bit better...
But yeah being the closest wheel to wheel combat out there I can kind of understand it
Other than that everyone should give it a shot
Is fun as hell, even if you don't wanna take it so seriously and just want to watch bumber cars going over 200kph
Win-win situation
Id argue the driving standards are fine.
If F1 drivers had to race this close for this long, we'd see exactly the same.
Day 1: Messy race
Day 2: Formula Nascar
Personally, my favourite racing series to watch are Indycar, then Formula E. The simple reason I enjoy watching them, is that there are a number of drivers who can win any race, and there are a number of passes on track. I also watch Formula 1 and V8 Supercars, both of which are snoozefests to be honest. :-( Though qualifying for F1 can be rather interesting, and far more interesting than the race itself. The driving standards in Formula E are probably the worst of the four series, though the qualifying requirements have certainly improved the past couple of years. There's a few drivers in Formula E that seem to have no business racing in open-wheelers. I was rather surprised when Nyck De Vries was announced as an F1 Driver: sure, he had won a Formula E championship, but under the old qualifying format, and he was certainly not the best driver in the Formula E series. I would say the cars are far easier to drive than a F1 car, and the races are half the time period, and the cars are much slower, so even taking the best Formula E drives and putting them into a F1 car and expecting instantaneous performances, would not be overly likely. De Vries needed two years to see if he could improve, and in F1, that's never going to happen. I'm sure he will do reasonably well in Formula E next year (he's probably a top 10 driver in that series): he's just not good enough for F1.
Formula E is fun. Dont make fun of it blud. 😤
I really think you should consider replacing your indy car and and formula e content with imsa stuff. Imsa is the future.
In North America perhaps, the rest of the world has WEC.
