For the first Swiss E-prix, which btw was the grand prix in Switzerland since the terrible accident at Le Mans in 1955, the company behind the local power grid didn't think they could handle the demands of Formula E. So they used a large Diesel generator to charge the cars

Should have watched this before I went to the recent race in Portland. As an F1 fan, I've vaguely kept up with Formula E but really haven't paid that much attention. This would have been a helpful summary of what's gone on in the series. Nice video.
Hey, I actually used to work on/drive in a series very similar to the Formula E School Series, I want to share some info with you guys. For starters, the cars used in the FE School Series are exactly the same, or very similar, to those cars run in the regional Formula 24 Electric Car Series’ across the world. The cars are designed by a company called Greenpower UK, and schools from across the world buy these cars as kits, and assemble them to race in local Formula 24 events. In F24, an endurance racing format is used, with on a race weekend, there are two races, each an hour and a half in length. Drivers have to run at least 15 minutes in a stint, to a maximum of 45 minutes per stint. There is no practice, and no qualifying, the grid is determined randomly. There are two classes in Formula 24 racing, F24, and F24+. In the F24 class, cars have to remain completely spec, with the only differences allowed in the regulations are the shape of the nose cone. In F24+, however, cars can be modified, but the only regulation I know of, as my school has not participated in the F24+ class, is that the wheels have to remain the same width and length. My school has three cars that we run in races, and like you said, Formula 24 is also just used for inspiring young engineers, not driving talent. Within the team, you have divisions of people working on each car, and drivers are somewhat randomly selected from each group. I wasn’t personally much involved with the building of the car, instead going off on my own and producing a “Formula 1: Drive to Survive” style documentary about the project. I just wanted to share some info about this series, and if you guys have any questions, feel free to ask me in the replies section. Have a great day everyone!
I watch f1 I've never watched formula e in my life but I'm giving you a sub casue of the amount of work that went into this video. Please keep up the good work you will go far.
Honestly a pretty great video, and pretty comprehensive too One thing I'd add is The Duels towards to the top of the iceberg, as it's a pretty unique qualifying format
Lost track of FE this season, this video popping up has reminded me how daft this sport can be and what caught my interest in the first place. Cheers fella, I hope you keep making dope videos 👍🏻
OHHH! I remember seeing the very first race live or re-live and the commentators were "yea! one of these two dudes will make it to number one in the first Formula E race in history!" over and over again. And I was like "ya, or they kick each other out and the third one will be the winner" and OFF THEY WENT! wow.
As time goes by, Gen 2 EVO will goes deeper into the iceberg. Probably as deep as the submarine. Also, if i could add another, I'd include first FE prototype test in London street. I think it was in early 2014 and driven by, of course Lucas di Grassi. It was driven very early in the morning so no one could catch a glimpse of it. The only evidence of it is only a blurry phone capture
I disagree with the statement "Fanboost turns competition in FE into a popularity contest". Fanboost is a rather small energy boost, and can make the difference of one position, if that. It only makes a difference if two drivers are rather equally matched.
31:41 One thing that gets often forgotten is that IndyCar had plans for a similar game in the late 90s/early 00s. Ultimately it got canned too. ... oh, and remember in the first 1 or 2 seasons how Formula E kept banging on about how in a near future you'd be able to attend races in VR in the mEtAvErSe before it was cool? With artificial scarcity in terms of seating and all.
I love the fact that every time Jakarta e-prix is brought up, I always thought about how screwed most, if not all, of the Indonesian racing fans are because their races are used as a political dick measuring contest especially with the new Mandalika circuit started hosting races and political buzzers were acting like it's an everyday Taylor Swift vs. Ariana Grande stan wars. Also, if you're doing Vol. 2, consider this: Lucas Di Grassi's creative interpretation of the Gen 3 car, a render of his vision of the Gen 3 car in collaboration with a 3D modeler I think.
I'm suprised that you didn't include that one time Trulli GP messed up with the cooling vent. One of the new engineer(at that time) came to the team, and then realized that the cooling vent was installed backward.

Okay, quick tip. The "I can't pronounce this name" joke is funny once, after that, it just makes you seem unprofessional, which is not a good look in a long, informational video such as this. Just practise the names a few times, it'll go a long way in helping you out. I was surprised by the subcount you've got. This is a really well put-together video, and you've clearly got talent. I was there in Berlin when these protesters got on the track. Boos galore and the security got cheered massively. Some spectators even said they would've been fine with it, if the race started anyway and these people would be run over in a "That's what they get for doing something this stupid" kind of fashion. Compounded by the fact of the at that point almost daily protests of "The last Generation" who glue themselves to streets and Autobahn exits and the anger these actions have caused to the general public, that's some messd up thinking.
Good video. I would just say it's important not to confuse power and energy. Power = Energy / Time, and Energy = Power x Time The energy stored in the battery of a Formula E car is essentially it's fuel that you use up. Attack mode and fan boost increase a car's maximum power for a period, increasing acceleration and top speed capabilities, but do not give it more usable energy for a race as a whole. And in Valencia 2021 the cars did not run out of power, they ran out of usable energy. I say usable energy because all the cars still had plenty of energy in their battery, they just exceeded the energy use allowance for the race. And it was miscalculation from most of the teams that caused running out of a usable energy, as you didn't say whose miscalculation it was, although it was a tricky calculation for all the teams to be fair.
Good shout. I think in a lot of aspects the two words are interchangeable, but i'd absolutely agree that in Formula E, they're completely different. I will be more careful in the future. Thank you
@@SB10_FE Scientifically they are not interchangeable, which is what I was alluding to. Thankfully in Formula E commentary and discussion they are accurately distinguished so the audience is not confused.
@@Andy__0 Yeah, what I was alluding to was something like batteries. We can say they ran out of energy, or ran out of power. Power is created by the energy, so if you have no energy, you have no power. If you have no power, it can be inferred you have no usable energy. I definitely see what you mean, but it can be confusing sometimes.
So sorry! I saw that clip in so many places I didn't know who to credit. I'll drop that in the description. Is there a specific social media handle you'd like me to leave in there?
One thing that fascinates me is the terrible Formula E anthem and music video Agag commissioned as a pet project in season 1, which the series later tried removed from their official accounts when they realised how out of touch it made them look
I don't think it's just FE, F1's had their fair share of problems too, but it's a lot harder for FE to convince the governments because they're a smaller racing series that earns generally less money per race than F1.
There are quite a few parallels between Vergne and Michael Schumacher. Both first entered the sport because another driver did an something illegal, both qualified well but had to retire.
this is a great iceberg video. most of the time iceberg videos are absolute garbage, but your pacing, detail and voice clarity was great. just stop complaining about pronunciation every 50 seconds, say the name and apologize if you think you are wrong and don’t care to actually learn/pronounce it correctly and move on
The Jake Dennis signing wasn't entirely shocking for me - maybe over BMW drivers sure, but just before that he'd put on an absolute show at the Bathurst 12 Hour, right in our backyard. Knew they were getting quality as soon as they signed that ink.
Where did you get the video about various transmission that the team used. I forgot the title of the video, shame it's such a unique thing to formula e
Amazing quality! However, some of the jokes have to be better placed imo, or the delivery wasn't good? Idk, that's my only negative point, surprised to see you have few subs, I'm gladly surprised by this channel, keep it going!
I don’t like to hate on formula e drivers but there is definitely a major skill gap. A young gasly who isn’t even in f1 yet does very well in his first ever FE race and his first ever time driving an FE car. Nyck who’s a 2x FE champion goes to f1 and is Absolutely shitting the bed.
True. But Gasly was in arguably the best car in the Renault, on a brand new circuit for FE in Brooklyn. That definitely leveled the playing field. And De Vries (who only won 1 title btw) id say wasn’t even the most talented driver on the FE grid. He’s definitely struggling this year, but hey, he finished 9th in points last season while Stoffel won the title 🤷♂️
On the flip side, you have Massa who almost won an F1 title do terrible in FE. Gasly got to drive by far the best car that season. Buemi the driver he replaced got 6 race wins out of 12 in that car.
Take a shot everytime you hear about Lucas Di Grassi, Covid 19, or hear me mispronounce a word

So sorry! I saw that clip in so many places I didn't know who to credit. I'll drop that in the description. Is there a specific social media handle you'd like me to leave in there?
My god 18:29 is hilarious, why did the FIA think that was a good idea
One thing that fascinates me is the terrible Formula E anthem and music video Agag commissioned as a pet project in season 1, which the series later tried removed from their official accounts when they realised how out of touch it made them look
I believe they should add an Formula E mode in F1 Games
Very good production value. It's a shame that Formula E is a niche subject.
I will never forget the gen 2 evo
Di Grasi LON21 is now The History of the Coconut Mall Speedrun
If you do a part 2 include Alex Lynn’s big crash
I'm really surprised how the ecologically friendly racing series had more problem with the government
You’re absolutely right! And both went on to become arguably the greatest driver in their respective series’
@@SB10_FE yea, it's freaky
DAMN UNDERRATED AF
This is just fantastic
Thank you!
The Renault braked earlier, as if DiGrassi didn't tried to assassinate Buemi so he could win
this is a great iceberg video. most of the time iceberg videos are absolute garbage, but your pacing, detail and voice clarity was great. just stop complaining about pronunciation every 50 seconds, say the name and apologize if you think you are wrong and don’t care to actually learn/pronounce it correctly and move on
Thank you, yeah i really regret doing the pronounciation thing.
@@SB10_FE No, thank you i really enjoyed learning more about formula e from your voice, excellently chosen visual aids, and perspective.
Good job, now the multi year question is where and when to watch races?
a little birdie told me, you can use a vpn to switch your ip to the UK and watch the races live on youtube..
don't tell anyone ;)
A little birdie also mentioned the motorsportreplays subreddit. shhh....
bro got the mushrooms 3:01
The Jake Dennis signing wasn't entirely shocking for me - maybe over BMW drivers sure, but just before that he'd put on an absolute show at the Bathurst 12 Hour, right in our backyard. Knew they were getting quality as soon as they signed that ink.
Where did you get the video about various transmission that the team used. I forgot the title of the video, shame it's such a unique thing to formula e
I believe it was this video right here:

Cool video
really good video though
Amazing quality! However, some of the jokes have to be better placed imo, or the delivery wasn't good? Idk, that's my only negative point, surprised to see you have few subs, I'm gladly surprised by this channel, keep it going!
This is a super cool video
There was no monaco e-prox on s2, it was ob s3
Excellent video
This is great
great video
Ayo 23:01 why this kinda slap
formula e should return to punta del este again at least one time
Amen

15:24 Damn, I only just read about Jack Nicholls news after seeing this.
His voice felt iconic to this racing series, but it looks like he has to go..
Yeah I was absolutely devastated when I heard what he did
