I have about a 0% chance of owning a raptor, and yet I just watched this whole review... With most youtube car review videos, I'll play them in the background, maybe even on 1.5x speed, because they're just that devoid of meaningful content. They all repeat the same drivel the press sheet told them to say, and add superlatives between. Alex's reviews I actually have to pay attention to, and that he can bring a full 25 minute long video where the majority of the information is new to me, and on occasion the sort of insider info I feel I'd need to be talking to somebody who engineered the vehicle to find out, is really refreshing. Keep up the good work Alex!
Just finished this review, awesome job 👍🏻 by far the best review on the 2017 Raptor. God willing, I'm Getting mine in mid Feb 2018, going with shadow black fully loaded, carbon fiber package, twin panel moon roof, etc....
it's amazing how far engine tech has got in the last two decades. this has 225 more hp and 85ft lbs of tourque then my 7.3L powerstroke. with a engine less then half the size
I owned Chevy and Ford trucks. They were all great. But my Raptor exceeds all of my previously owned vehicles. Comfort, capabilities, and style in a truck is amazing. Shoot, I actually enjoy hand washing it. I drove it through a 65 mile stretch of beach and at times I hit 55 miles per hour. It was the smoothest drive I have had through N Padre Island. Before this truck I anticipated the fishing and dreaded the drive, now I anticipate the drive and the fishing. Lol.
Came to an Alex review for entertainment, left understanding complex offroading concepts and buying a new Raptor... I'd say your reviews are fairly effective :)
Wow, Alex's review surpasses those other adolescent, "Yahoo, I'm having fun in the Raptor!" reviews. This review is actually detailed and educational. I especially like the explanation about direct-injection turbos being fuel thirsty. Thanks.
It'd be nice if Ford decided to make a more street-focused performance version of the F150 too. A reboot of the Lightning for the new aluminum F150 era would be great.
Alex, when comparing these vehicles, you simply MUST include discounts in the value equation. For example, an FX4 might currently be about $8,000 off MSRP, while this may sell with zero discount. So, effectively, it is yet another $8,000 more expensive to buy. You can't do this for every vehicle, but this is an obvious situation where it is nowhere near the price of a similiarly equipped "normal" F150.
We can't control discounts of course and we have no idea where Raptors will end up, locally the last generation raptor ended it's run with the same F-150 discounts.
When Alex said he could've taken this on some of the more gnarlier off-road paths, but Ford would like their car returned with the paint still intact, that's exactly my dilemma with this vehicle. It is everything I want but it's so expensive and so damn nice, I'd never want to actually take it *true* offroading! And with his note about older models taco'ing, this is the biggest fear of buying a truck like this *used*. It's like buying a rental. You just KNOW it's been abused if they had any proper fun with it.
Alex says he'd like to return the truck to Ford with paint left on it but did anyone notice the scratches on the front left fender and door during the drive section of the video. Some other reviewer has sure had their fun with it!
Thankfully that wasn't a scratch, I live in a dusty area and dust sometimes ends up looking that way after a blade of grass or a bug flies along the dust.
This may sound silly but we lost the footage (Yikes!) so we edited things together without it, it kind of worked since we spent so much time on other things and the interior is 99.9% the same as the regular F-150
Before I even watch it, let me just say, what da... Alex review a Raptor? The eminently reasonable and mostly practical suburban Alex reviewing a vehicle that fits none of those categories? Okay, gotta wait until I get back from work.
Alex lives in the Santa Cruz mountains, off the beaten path, so hardly suburban. His SUVs have hauled a equipment & supplies to build his home there. But he does generally review more mainstream cars since that's his audience.
I know where he lives because I am also from Silicon Valley, and yes, it very much qualifies as suburban here. It might not in New York or Chicago, but it does here. And don't tell me that Raptor is suddenly a perfect daddy vehicle for Home Depot runs. Mind you, I am just amused by the vehicle Ford got him for review, not that he is reviewing it.
I never said it was. What's so amusing about that? His channel has reviews every Ford vehicle (except the Taurus), including top trim F-150s & Superdutys, & Mustang Shelby Super Snakes. I'd be amused if Ford dropped off a Ford GT in his driveway! You never know. Last year, Alex reviewed the $160k Acura NSX, and described it as a "livable, daily-driver supercar." Eminently practical indeed!
I'm sorry. Didn't mean to come across that way. Just saying I'd be thrilled if Alex got more fancy vehicles to review, and applied his pragmatic analysis like he did to say, the NSX or i8.
thanks for the review. I noticed you mentioned that Raptor's 4wd system uses center diff with a clutch pack and can send 100% of the torque to either axle. Jeep Quadra Track II 4wd claims to send 100% of the torque to either axle utilizing center diff. How similar is the Raptor's 4wd to Jeep Quadra Track II? thanks
I enjoy your videos very much but i just don't get your rating system. C for handling ? isn't this the best high speed handling off road truck you can buy? D for fuel ? how do you call it the most fun half ton you can buy but then give it a failing grade for achieving it?
I would never pay this much for a vehicle that handles and brakes like this. Just save your money and get a regular F150 and modifiy it slightly if needed. Because we all know you're not racing it in the desert.
I kinda think this Raptor is a 1 trick pony. I kinda think a buyer may reconsider their purchase after sometime if it's their daily driver. I'd rather buy the new V8/10speed F-150 and then add the parts "I" want rather than buy this rig.
I think itd make a great daily besides fuel economy and parking. Has plenty of passing power, sit up nice and high giving a commanding view over traffic, plenty of room inside for 5 plus your stuff, can tow, great in all weather conditions thanks to 4wd auto and chunky tires, and cushy fox shocks give a better ride than normal f150 on rough pavement. Odds are if you can afford a 70k truck you dont really care about spending more for gas each month, also odds are if you can afford a 70k truck youre at least 40 years old and could use the exercise youd get from walking back and forth from far away isolated parking spots
Apples to oranges. But when I bought my PW I did consider the Raptor. I have a lot of respect for the 6.2 version, and have got a couple of them airborne. That said, the type of overlanding I do, and the weight of my boat, is just not suited to the new version. And I still question how long that engine is going to last. Transmission isn't proven either. (and the exhaust sounds like shit) Time will tell.
Hey Alex, do you think you'll ever review the new 10th generation Honda Civic Type-R (FK8). I would seriously love to see one from you because there aren't any "highly detailed" videos on them!
Nice review Just can't trust the reliability of a ford product and for 70k- pass. Ford does design nice looking vehicle thou only if they can get there suppliers step up the on quality
Actually, Ford isn't dropping the V8 in the F150 or in the F150 Raptor. In fact, they're updating the 5.0L and will be offering a new 7.0L V8 in a year or two for the Raptor and top trim levels of the F150.
Bryan H do you have any links on the 7.0? just because the 5.0 got updates doesn't mean it has a long life ahead of it. i say 2-3 years left on the 5.0 and then all v8s in the f150 are dropped.
There was a time not too long ago (around 2008) where one of the F-150's marketing commercials touted that every engine in the F-150 was a V8. They had the 4.6, the 5.4 and the 6.2. I believe the F-150 will be offering a diesel engine soon in spring of 2018. Probably around 3.0 liters. Great review Alex. Do you happen to know if the direct injection engines in the F-150 have issues with a buildup on the valves? Also, the 5.5 foot box may restrict anyone who wants to 5th-wheel or gooseneck tow.
Well one year later and still no sign of a v8 raptor, 7.0 and hybrid rumors so far untrue. Diesel rumor came true for lariat trim and higher, looks like no sign of dropping the 5.0 anytime soon in standard f150s
I have about a 0% chance of owning a raptor, and yet I just watched this whole review...

Jonathan Dittmar yeah it is crazy V-8's back in the day had same horses as a turbo charged 4 cylinder
your powerstroke probably gonna last like 500,000 more miles than that v6 lol
Jonathan Dittmar 7.3 ? That's huge
Too bad it probably won't have half the reliability or last even half as long.
Senduran Pack yup, made from 1994-2003 if i remember. the engine was also used in school buses, concrete trucks and other commercial vehicles
I owned Chevy and Ford trucks. They were all great. But my Raptor exceeds all of my previously owned vehicles. Comfort, capabilities, and style in a truck is amazing. Best auto review channel period. Nice job Alex.
I was in Ford Raptor today. Awsome truck.
It'd be nice if Ford decided to make a more street-focused performance version of the F150 too. A reboot of the Lightning for the new aluminum F150 era would be great.
New Ford ranger Raptor is coming
More like the old svt lightning versions
John Capozzi why would they? It's called a mustang
they already tested the market by actually selling the 2014 F150 Tremor.
except that is was much slower than the svt...and also had worse handling. It didn't sell because it was terrible.
@AlexOnAutos
FINALLLY!! I have not taken other reviews seriously because your independence in reviewing vehicles is lacking on UA-cam and print! YES!!
21:56 "the rumored RAM Rebel TRX" - Boy, I would love to buy it (I won't) just to make my neighbors think I have completely lost my mind.
Wow someone that actually understands the 4wd systems, other reviewers have been clueless.
We need more trucks like this.

Holy crap! 5.2 sec is sports car acceleration. Nice.
Nice review.
do the continental next!

Did I miss the interior review? Usually you go over the interior in depth.
+
WatchReport.com yeah, there is no interior overview
This may sound silly but we lost the footage (Yikes!) so we edited things together without it, it kind of worked since we spent so much time on other things and the interior is 99.9% the same as the regular F-150
Hey Alex, great review as always! Could you please possibly get your hands on the 2018 XC60 for review?
Great review 👌
I can't tell if it's size would make it a huge burden as a daily around town.
Before I even watch it, let me just say, what da... Alex review a Raptor? The eminently reasonable and mostly practical suburban Alex reviewing a vehicle that fits none of those categories? Okay, gotta wait until I get back from work.

can you review the toyota tacoma trd pro
i like how honest you are with your reviews
thanks for the review. I noticed you mentioned that Raptor's 4wd system uses center diff with a clutch pack and can send 100% of the torque to either axle. The ultimate bro dozer. These will only see highways for there special owner
other f150"s always have rebates up to 12,000 off msrp, but svt raptors dont. the real difference in price is about 15,000
We do have a midsize off roader, the Chevy Colorado ZR2
Love to pull raptors out of trouble (both the 6.2 and the new one) with my power wagon :)
Doesn't have 2 cameras in the tailgate handle.. one camera & a LED light..
Any more truck reviews, say the GMC/CHevy Canyon/Colorado?

I've been waiting too lol
Sameee
i wonder how it preforms with a snow plow?
Where is the manual transmission version? Is it because most people drive these to their office job?
I enjoy your videos very much but i just don't get your rating system. C for handling ? isn't this the best high speed handling off road truck you can buy? D for fuel ? how do you call it the most fun half ton you can buy but then give it a failing grade for achieving it?
Hey Alex, what happened to the genesis g80 review??
Looking forward to your review of the new Colorado ZR2
Folding like a taco :D
scratched the shit out of those fenders
Good ol' Alex. Did you catch the typo - "pikcup" ?
Oops, where?
No car seat review ?
I would never pay this much for a vehicle that handles and brakes like this. Just save your money and get a regular F150 and modifiy it slightly if needed. Because we all know you're not racing it in the desert.
Now to go look at used 1st Gen Raptors hahaha
snakerb a guy i used to work for traded his for the new one
Jonathan Dittmar new one is better (imo), but old one is cheaper.
I kinda think this Raptor is a 1 trick pony. I kinda think a buyer may reconsider their purchase after sometime if it's their daily driver. I'd rather buy the new V8/10speed F-150 and then add the parts "I" want rather than buy this rig.
E. Simons I thought about that too. Until it's time to sell... Raptors keep their value retartedly high for some reason.
Your"retartedly" comment is spot on!

Given no real benefit in real world fuel economy, I wish they would have gone with a more stout V8 and sacrifice a little torque for sound
Hey Alex, do you think you'll ever review the new 10th generation Honda Civic Type-R (FK8). I would seriously love to see one from you because there aren't any "highly detailed" videos on them!
Why yes indeed, we will see it in about 4 weeks.
Alex on Autos Thank you so much Alex, I'm really looking forward to the review soon!
Bad Drivers of Northern Virginia that car causes blindness though. Let's not make Alex look at that albatross
Where is the CX-5 review?
Coming soon we hope
An automatic that skips gears. Why can't they all do that?
20:00 You misspelled "pickup"
My bad.
I love this dude and this channel everything except for that god awful intro sound.
Nice review
Just can't trust the reliability of a ford product and for 70k- pass. Ford does design nice looking vehicle thou only if they can get there suppliers step up the on quality
whiting you to discover Toyota Camry 2018
Alex knows his poop.
No V8 option is blasphemy.
I Finn ford is likely going to drop the v8 entirely in the f150 when the hybrid comes out in 2019
Actually, Ford isn't dropping the V8 in the F150 or in the F150 Raptor. In fact, they're updating the 5.0L and will be offering a new 7.0L V8 in a year or two for the Raptor and top trim levels of the F150.
