Good stuff, Justin. Pretty much how I feel about the second gen Raptor. It's a complete improvement over the first gen. I've had the privilege of owning the 2014 Raptor and now the 2017. I loved the first gen with the 6.2 V8. That V8 starting up and generating that low rumble got the soul moving. Put a smile on my face every time! Other than the sound, the second gen trumps the first gen in every category.
I have a 13 ford f-150 fx4 with a 3.5L ecoboost with exhaust and Justin your right. Once you get past the sound it's one awesome truck. love hearing my turbos spool up.
Exactly! "once you get past the sound". Why buy an "off road monster called a RAPTOR" that you "have to get over the sound"??? Imagine a Raptor (the animal) that sounded like a "meow". You would look at it in fear, then laugh when it "roared"....LOL...LOL
Because 'Sound' does make this thing good or bad off road (Its great btw) 'Sound' doesn't make this thing blow the doors off the 6.2 (which it does, handily)- 'Sound' DOESN'T DEFINE PERFORMANCE. Robert, we get it man- you're 8 comments on this video hating the sound makes that perfectly clear. But c'mon... lets sprinkle a little logic in there with your opinion- there's more than just sound here. -Justin
Love the new Raptor and this review of it. Perfect in everything I wanted to see. It is even more of a dream truck for me now with the new motor. My 2015 Mustang Ecobeast has amazed me in the 8k miles I have driven it, and my old 1993 Ranger is ready to be traded in! I love this new Raptor!!
If you're a truck guy, and you don't like this truck, you're not a truck guy. Wait till they take this drive train and put it in a reg cab lowered. The bean counters at Ford are already drooling.
Sure in a lowered reg cab (Ranger) this drive train might be cool, but not in a RAPTOR. The name alone conjures up visions of power and fear. But it's roar is a "meow:...LOL...LOL
A lot of people feel that way! Sounds like it's not a deal break for you +Tank Buster. Thanks for sharing your opinion with us and for watching :) -Elaina
I hate how the market has shifted more towards offroad trucks instead of street trucks/muscle trucks. Even the regular truck models offer offroad packages instead of race packages. The manufacturers don't even offer their bigger engines in rcsb form which has always baffled me. I'm just waiting and hopefully not for the rest of my life for new Lightning, Ram SRT, SS Silverado or Colorado. Which ever company does it first has got my buy.
Mc Stan Well just look at aftermarket parts sale, whats the number one selling truck accessorie, lift kits. The manufacturers see that so they try to capture that market right from the showroom floor. I personally agree with you, i would love to see sport truck come back to market, and with the t56 6 speed behind a 5.0l.
Because maybe a truck suits someones life better than a car and they still would like to have something fast and fun, cars don't have beds or tow hitches. Also while driving I am on the street more often than off road. We don't need 700hp cars and we still have the option to buy them. At the end of the day trucks are meant for working out of and hauling things not off roading or racing but it's what the consumer wants so they make it.
Paid my allocation fee, $1,000. Willing to pay the $2,500 over msrp. Finally approved with $5,000 down as well. It’s finally being built for me.!!!! 2-10 months waiting list is a little on the rough side but worth it
Congrats Mark! I've been in mine for the last 6 months or so and absolutely love it. Do yourself a favor and take advantage of the Raptor Assault class Ford includes with the price of the truck - you won't regret it! -Justin
I went from a 2013 Gen1 Raptor to the 2017 Gen2 Raptor. Of course the sound is different, but I do not regret my decision at all. The power in this truck is unbelievable. Absolutely love the damn thing. $70K well spent!
Love the review, but drop the cheesy music running throughout. Keep the transition music is all you need for much cleaner video - especially at 18 minutes long!
my 94 is a straight six and i have no problem towing or hauling good size loads in my opinion it makes it more off road worthy think about it jeep has their 4.0 chevy Colorado 4.3 and alot of prerunners are 6cyl
How about a single turbo? A much bigger engine doesn't need all that boost. But frankly, a non-turbo will last a lot longer. How much power do you think you need?
The 2017 model of Justin is even better than last year as well. At least en extra 5 LBS of muscle and the beard is even stronger. Hah, lookin good bro keep at it.
V8 is not just for the sound. A V8 feels right in a half ton and doesnt sound like crap when someone asks you what you have under the hood of that beast looking truck you call a raptor! Its also pride! American Pride! One of the things you think about when it comes to America, and thats a V8! V8 and a half ton go together so perfectly!
Funny how people say the new raptor sucks because of the sound #1 it sounds way better the old one was quiet you couldn't even hear it anyway #2 the new on has bigger 3inch shocks versus 2.5 inch shocks #3 the new raptor has more travel by 2 inches up front and 1 inch in the back so the old one had 11 inches up front 13 in the back the new one has 13 up front 14 rear,as well as having a way more beefy frame that can take way more abuse at high-speed and the new v6 is twin turbo allowing that 450hp and 510 lb ft of torque to be available for longer.
Sorry for all the bashing, just having a bad day I guess. I have had about 34 cars and trucks in my life and I get somewhat passionate about them sometimes. It's a great truck with plenty of power and tech and I'm sure it deserves some recognition for how great it is!
Its all good Robert- you know we appreciate your continued support of the channel along with your enthusiasm in the comment section. Just try pacing yourself next time ;) -Justin
Hell a 3.5 liter turbo V-8 would be fine, Americans want to hear that sound, just think of the rpm it could turn too, and get good mileage and emissions when driving Miss Dazy.
I am really excited to for 2 episodes of hotlap a month. I love the 2017 raptor and I wouldn't mind buying one in the future. I don't mind that it has a v6 in it even though I love the sound of a v8. I am also having a car meet on march 25th so if anyone from AM is interested I can message them
Ecoboost or not, that 2017 looks 10 times better than that 2012. Granted the 2012 looks good (more in my budget too lol) but man that 2017 looks a lot meaner! Sure the Ecoboost will NOT have a v8 rumble (DUH!) but with the performance it puts out, WHO CARES!?
Why not take power, speed, sound, smoothness, and reliability with a V8? GM's LT4 in the Z06 and Zl1 is pushing out 650 hp and torque. Just saying a V8 is better in everyway over a V6 except for gas mileage, and if you're buying a $70,000 truck, I don' t think gas mileage will be such a big issue :) Speaking of gas mileage, the ecoboost engines get horrendous MPG's when tuned for performance. 15/18 for the raptor and 11/18 for the Ford GT, both worse or almost as bad as their V8 predecessors. I think Ford took a wrong turn in pushing so hard for Ecoboost engines by putting them in the GT, Raptor, and Mustang (Unless they come out with an 3.5 Ecoboost for the Mustang). They should only belong in the ST/RS family, Fusion, and their other non-performance cars.
Personally i would love a v8 option but, i understand why ford went with the ecoboost because of marketing and manufacturing reasons. Also love where you tested the truck been there many times myself! Where did you enter the trails? Yellowsprings?
I was alot like some of you guys in the beginning a full size truck needs a full size engine. that was until I drove one.and as technology grows the little v6s are getting very empressive . agreed think how bad it would be to strap twin turbos on a 5.0 in a 150 but I must admit the 3.5 is strong little engine
I would love for AM to start showing off parts for the ford RS. I don't particularly own one I would just love to give it some love also don't forget about mustang eco boost. Great video wish I could afford a raptor.
If we did, I guess that would mean I would need to get a personal RS, for 'testing purposes'.... I APPROVE! ;) In all seriousness I don't know if we have any immediate plans to support the RS any time soon, but I've been wrong before so you never know! Thanks again for watching and for the kind words! -Justin
I think Ford did a great job, but I don't see why they're choosing to drop the V8s...well not drop necessarily. But put a ecoboost v6 in their high performance vehicles.
The wheels on this model are also forged, just wanted to correct. I've got one on order with the same wheels equipped. It's even on the Ford website. Good review so far
I'm sorry but that is incorrect. Go to Fords site, click on the 'build and price' your Raptor, check out the exterior options and you'll see two sets of wheels. The standard CAST aluminum wheels that are on this truck, and the forged aluminum bead lock capable wheels- as stated in the video. I just double checked because you had me worried but it confirmed what I said. Thanks for the compliment though Scott! -Justin
You're right, when we were going over the options I remember seeing forged wheels I thought ford both beadlocks and the stock ones which seemed odd to off forged wheels as standard. My bad, AM needs to purchase one and see what y'all can do with it.
I just decided to buy me a used 2015 f150 with a v8 instead of buying a v6 eco boost raptor. I love the v6 sound. But I’m putting a complete conversion kit to make it identical to the raptor. Hate if u want. I’d rather spend around $30k than $70-80k.
No hate! If you do it the right way with a solid suspension setup, Raptor fenders/widebody kit, and a nice front end conversion, it will look pretty damn mean! Best of luck! -Zach
Since this is a base model truck, it isn't equipped with the 'BLIS' system (Blind spot warning) and this can alter the look of the Tail Lights. -Justin
Can I get this is europe? there are a few inaccessible beaches is my country unless you have a Defender or G class, Im pretty sure this can handle it, tho it would be a waste for just a few weeks a year
Obviously a yay, ford dealers can't keep these things on the lots, and that's at an average of $5,000 mark up. It's a bad ass truck. Better than the previous generation in every single measurable aspect. Sound preference is subjective. I'll take performance over sound any day. Most people complaining, saying they wouldn't buy it because of the V6, probably can't afford it anyway.
You can get 500 hp out of a turbo Honda vtec. But It doses not mean I want one. I’m looking for a replacement for my 150k+ mile ram srt10. And spending $100k+ for the Shelby or the roush is ridiculous!
a lot of sound whiners here...lol....ive had two 6.2L f-150 trucks and yes they sound great but i traded it in for a 16 limited ecoboost and had no option but a ecoboost and from that day i drove it i will never buy anything else until i get the new gen ecoboost....
I've seen a ton of reviews with this truck and drag races against all the competition. I haven't seen a drag and comparison between the 700hp Shelby f150 and a rapter yet. Wonder why that is.
At my dealer right now their is a 10K markup on all Raptors which Ford needs to ban that from their dealers. And yeah ill take the new one any day of the week i don't care what motor is in it as long as it has better performance than the old one.
Sorry, can't get over the V6 sound!! Fail!! Could have put a smaller displacement V8 with a supercharger. Turbo isn't great for low rpm rock crawling, superchargers are. How does it do when crawling for 2 hours at 1200 rpm? Do the turbos cook? Sorry but I just can't love the EcoBoost in this application (purpose built off roader). I guess the Baja truck it is, is what it is.
This is just pure marketing genius. Absolutely nothing wrong with the v6, but if/when ford releases this beast with a v8 option (it's like the 5.4L engine of the gen1)... 4/5 ppl who bought the v6 will upgrade to the v8. Yes the gen2 is amazing for stock but I'm perfectly content with my '13 tuned s/c screw until the gen2 update. cheers
sorry man but a turbo v6 wont last like a naturally aspired v8. not to mention the cost of repair on a Ecoboost. Supercharged coyote would of been they way to go. 700hp. enough said.
I hear ya- and at first I was like 'Yes- Paddle Shifters!!!!'. And then proceeded to use them for 5 minutes before switching back to 'Full Auto' lol. Its honestly a little much with the 10 speed. -Justin
AmericanMuscle.com yeah, I have the manual shift mode on my 13' FX4, and have only used it maybe twice. The feature is nice on a Auto Mustang but not the greatest on a truck, in my opinion.
The 2nd gen Raptor is a much better truck than the 1st gen. I like the truck for what it is. Since it performs better in every way, the V6 does not bother me at all. No it doesn't sound as good, but I don't care.
Best review of the Raptor I have seen so far! Thanks
Considering there are a bunch out there by now, that's high praise- Thanks Mario! -Justin

Haha- Nic Cage! You know that's exactly what I was thinking when I said that! lololol -Justin
You guys should make another channel for muscle car reviews. This is one the best car reviews I have seen. Never got boring to watch. Good job!
You seriously made my day Kyle- thanks man. -Justin
Do I get some merch thrown my way. that would make my day lol.
Good stuff, Justin. Pretty much how I feel about the second gen Raptor. It's a complete improvement over the first gen. I've had the privilege of owning the 2014 Raptor and now the 2017. Ya your right, it's a great truck!
Also, my 1993 Ford Ranger XL 2wd 4c in Brilliant Blue Metallic has only 98k miles on it if anyone is interested!
You match the Raptor toughness with you review, awesome work!
Wow great review and video. Probably the best one and I've seen a lot of them. Love the Raptor. Just subscribed. Keep up the good work!!!!
badass freaking truck.
A proud raptor owner here!
SaadMG just a quick question, how has the reliability been in your truck so far? Any issues
SaadMG any problems?
If you're a truck guy, and you don't like this truck, you're not a truck guy. Wait till they take this drive train and put it in a reg cab lowered. The bean counters at Ford are already drooling.
Sure in a lowered reg cab (Ranger) this drive train might be cool, but not in a RAPTOR. The name alone conjures up visions of power and fear. But it's roar is a "meow:...LOL...LOL
:Morpheus Meme: What if I told you a truck can be Powerful and Badass without a V8? -Justin
Then get one while the kid across the street boost's his 5.0 and makes 700 hp off only 10 psi lmao
This is one of the best reviews I've seen so far.
That's awesome JJ, thanks man. Much appreciated! -Justin
Love the design on the RAPTOR... and the in your Face FORD logo in the front
I don't like the fact that it has a v6 but it would not stop me from buying one
A lot of people feel that way! Sounds like it's not a deal break for you +Tank Buster. Thanks for sharing your opinion with us and for watching :) -Elaina
SAME HERE!!!!
That design is absolutely perfect and handsome all around. Prefer non turbo's.. but as an optional engine only it's ok
Great episode Justin

I hear ya Mc Stan- and sign me the hell up for a new Lightening. Until then, the Roush 'Nightmare' is about as close as you're going to get. -Justin
That would be more logical for most people since there trucks never leave the street including mine ( hey I"am just being honest lol)
Mc Stan then make it a street truck yourself
Justin the 🐐
Haha, thanks Maki! -Justin
Maki dd

I went from a 2013 Gen1 Raptor to the 2017 Gen2 Raptor. Of course the sound is different, but I do not regret my decision at all. The power in this truck is unbelievable. Absolutely love the damn thing. $70K well spent!

Does the engine shutoff at lights like other Fords? If yes, does it always start in that mode?
this truck looks so good
Nice to see a local shop on here.
The 3.5 ecoboost is one great motor. But a twin turbo 5.0 would be awesome! Still loving the new Raptor.
Yeah umm no boat achors
How about a single turbo? A much bigger engine doesn't need all that boost. But frankly, a non-turbo will last a lot longer. How much power do you think you need?
The Raptor is a beautiful truck... just wish they had a solid axel up front with an electronic locker!
Definitely the best raptor review guys, well done. Would you consider doing a review of the Roush F150 too ????
We'd love to get our hands on one of those! Let's see what we can do :) - Will
The 2017 model of Justin is even better than last year as well. At least en extra 5 LBS of muscle and the beard is even stronger. Hah, lookin good bro keep at it.
I don't know about the exhaust but you definitely win comment of the day. Thanks dude lol.. -Justin
V8 is not just for the sound. A V8 feels right in a half ton and doesnt sound like crap when someone asks you what you have under the hood of that beast looking truck you call a raptor! So yes the V6 did ruin the raptor!!
Great review, love the Raptor!!!
Glad that you liked the video Robert :) Thanks for watching and for the kind words! -Elaina
You should do a frs auto vs manual 2013 version I love all the details you cover nothing left out good job
The rumble mate, you gotta have the rumble!!!!
Eco boost has little engine block integrity head room for horsepower, where as the 6.2 has lots of headroom.
Yeah dude and it has more travel
Anyone who wants an engine that will last, that's who cares.
Yay cant wait to tune the Ecoboost engine
The V6 is the future. I want to see that 450HP/510TQ V6 in a Mustang
Nice truck, great review
EcoBoost V6. Yay or nay?
Nay needs a V8
im a believer after racing a ecoboost with my 5.0!! ill take power and speed over sound any day!!
Nay
Nay!
Nice looking in blue with those wheels.
I just can't part with my 6.2L even though I love all of the upgrades in every other aspect....I just can't do it....
Do it the 6.2 isnt as cool weaker frame worse suspension
Sweet review!
Thanks! -Justin
YAY YAY YAY ALL THE WAY! I HAVE THE SUPERCREW 2.7 AND ITS THE BEST! JUST WAITING TO GET PICKED FOR THE 5k build your F150 😊
Not a ford guy, and a hate to say it. I like it, good job ford.
Best Raptor review by far! Where was that video shot, it looks like mid or northeastern US?
Just outside of Philadelphia and thanks for the kind words Zep! -Justin
I thought the terrain looked familiar, I'm only an hour and 1/2 away from Philly.
Personally i would love a v8 option but, i understand why ford went with the ecoboost because of marketing and manufacturing reasons. Also love where you tested the truck been there many times myself! Where did you enter the trails? Yellowsprings?
V6 didn't ruin the Raptor. EcoBoosts are badass!
Couldn't agree more! -Justin
BS
Everyone is all in on a V6 till the V8 comes. And quit lying to yourself if you think you'd pick a v6 over a v8. And yes it's coming.
Lol pal ford said it themselves its not happening there keeping it as a v6 more fuel efficient and can make the same hp
Not soon enough.
The powertrain in my loaded 18 raptor is a freaking dog.
Pos ecoboost...
v6 lighter so truck weight distribution is better and its a major advantage. but v8 sounds and lasts better.
the sound of that engine isn't too bad if you change the mufflers to maybe some magna flows
Yes. It did. Next?
I don't think it sounds that bad, its exhaust is well tuned for sound, aftermarket high flow exhaust probably won't sound nearly as good though
-Justin
yay and i hate the supercab i like the supercrew cab with the 802A package along with few things.
I love that base one though, that 10 Grand, I can use to upgrade the exhaust with it
You can do more than exhaust with $10,000! I completely agree with you there. - Will
I think Ford did a great job, but I don't see why they're choosing to drop the V8s...well not drop necessarily. But put a ecoboost v6 in their high performance vehicles.
58 sticker price for almost fully Raptor before the 20k market some dealers are putting on the trucks
And Justin here actually did buy a Raptor....must be something to it....
Is the 202 in PA? I believe my good friends wife just got a job with your guys. Great vid!
-Zach
Will y'all ever do powerstroke stuff?
Why are the tail lights different than others I do see some of the tail lights on f 150s is it a 2017 feature?
Since this is a base model truck, it isn't equipped with the 'BLIS' system (Blind spot warning) and this can alter the look of the Tail Lights. -Justin
AmericanMuscle.com oh thanks!
definitely can't wait to get my hands on a raptor, but by the time the finances are there ford will have probably released several other versions
Can I get this is europe? there are a few inaccessible beaches is my country unless you have a Defender or G class, Im pretty sure this can handle it, tho it would be a waste for just a few weeks a year
6 cylinders are great, as long as they are in line. I want a NA 4.0 i6 damn it, the hood is big enough.
Obviously a yay, ford dealers can't keep these things on the lots, and that's at an average of $5,000 mark up. It's a bad ass truck. Better than the previous generation in every single measurable aspect. Sound preference is subjective. I'll take performance over sound any day. The Graphics are TJ.
You can get 500 hp out of a turbo Honda vtec. But It doses not mean I want one. I’m looking for a replacement for my 150k+ mile ram srt10. And spending $100k+ for the Shelby or the roush is ridiculous!
any chances of you guys reviewing the 2017 Power Wagon?
Maciej Hajbert nope here its ford only
Love the raptor but I would buy a power wagon over the raptor any day.
a lot of sound whiners here...lol....ive had two 6.2L f-150 trucks and yes they sound great but i traded it in for a 16 limited ecoboost and had no option but a ecoboost and from that day i drove it i will never buy anything else until i get the new gen ecoboost....
I've seen a ton of reviews with this truck and drag races against all the competition. I haven't seen a drag and comparison between the 700hp Shelby f150 and a rapter yet. Wonder why that is.
Hell yes it did! save the V-6 for the soccer moms there’s no replacement for displacement in the truck game!
2018 Bullitt would be awesome
I have detailed these due to I work at a dealership but that does need a v8! v6s are not made to be in a v8
If they would have made a turbo charged V8 for the Raptor, it would be perfect.
No supercharged and no v8 v6 is life more power available
No it wouldn’t because with the gas prices and I do care about the earth, so v6 EcoBoost is the way to go.
@@invasion1824 The V6 gets much poorer fuel mileage than the 5.0.
scarhart53 that’s impossible!
At my dealer right now their is a 10K markup on all Raptors which Ford needs to ban that from their dealers. And yeah ill take the new one any day of the week i don't care what motor is in it as long as it has better performance than the old one.
YES IT DID!!!
dude i'd be happy with a 2.7 ecoboost raptor.
Shame on the dealers in the Metroplex (Dallas/Ft. Worth) on jacking the prices up $15,000 over list price!
I really wish there was a 6 or so speed (or more) manual stick shift model... for the handful of us who still know how to drive a manual.. =p
Theres replacement for displacement v6 is life fuck boat anchors aka v8's
This is just pure marketing genius. Absolutely nothing wrong with the v6, but if/when ford releases this beast with a v8 option (it's like the 5.4L engine of the gen1)... 4/5 ppl who bought the v6 will upgrade to the v8. Yes the gen2 is amazing for stock but I'm perfectly content with my '13 tuned s/c screw until the gen2 update. cheers
hopefully the FOX shocks dont RUST apart in 2 years like the last raptor
didn't catch the towing capacity?
I would love to see a 6.2L wrapped in that aluminum body.
sorry man but a turbo v6 wont last like a naturally aspired v8. not to mention the cost of repair on a Ecoboost. Supercharged coyote would of been they way to go. 700hp. enough said.
Yeah umm the ecoboost is cheaper
Fact!!!!
My last truck was a whipplecharged 16 supercrew fx4 sport & it'll run circles around my pansy ecojunk powered 18 raptor.
wish that F150 Raptor have the right hand driver, for Malaysian market
Hey my dads trophy truck was used to invent the raptor !! His names Wayne lugo
Ford is awesome.
but they hv to step up the mpg to at least 24 mpg by now on their trucks. If not more.
I never understood why put like paddle shifter, Liked the review, wouldn't mind getting but not a big fan of the new gen front end.
I really don't see the point of the V6 if fuel economy barely budged.
The V6 is the "boy George" of Raptors....
I'd get the 2015 5.0l f150 and throw on the raptor fenders and axle gearing and super charge the beast and boom v8 Raptorish
The 2nd gen Raptor is a much better truck than the 1st gen. I like the truck for what it is. Since it performs better in every way, the V6 does not bother me at all. No it doesn't sound as good, but I don't care.
