@@thezkiller03 That was actually the first thing I tried. Unfortunately it looks like Steam Link doesn't yet support Linux, at least in its VR mode. It did show up though, it was really cursed seeing "PS4" listed as a computer in my Steam Link devices 😂
Yes, it's all a matter of how optimized the device is. I wanted to see the smartphone tested again on a Snapdragon 8 Gen 4. It should be very playable and look good, especially if they used a VR headset with eye tracking and foveated rendering.
Shout out to you setting up ALVR. I as a Linux user am so freaking super happy it works with both Quest and Pico headsets, no more Windows. Also thumbs up for such experiments. I love silly stuff like this even if one doesn't get anywhere.

Interesting. You probably know you can get an AMD BC-250 which is basically a binned PS5 AMD chipset and stuck on a board with a chonky heatsink. People get Linux running on them but without GPU support - but read someone was able to get it working. Might make a pretty neat SteamVR option with full GPU acceleration, maybe?

I tried steamvr on my onexplayer 2 running 6800u apu. All I wanted was to watch movies on my psvr2 in my bedroom without having to move my gaming pc. It's too stuttery. I wonder if skybox is less of a resource hog than virtual desktop.
Don't update? Ohhh i know that problem and it is a ridiculous design flaw. So to update your ps4(fat model) the update goes through a daughter board located inside the Blu-ray drive. That daughter board has a habit of slowly dying in the fat ps4 models. You can't replace the daughter board because it is paired to the motherboard. The motherboard checks if the daughter board has the paired unique serial number. If it doesn't, you get an error about it. The warning sign to know if the daughter board is going bad is if it won't read disk games anymore. After that when it dies, the PlayStation won't system update. I was dumb and tried to buy a replacement Blu-ray drive for my brother's ps4 to fix it. I pretty much wasted 20 bucks.
I have a ps4 slim, it struggles to get 30 fps in Roblox, natively 😐😐😐 I considered loading Linux on a vulnerable firmware but the juice just wasn't worth the squeeze, my school laptop with an i3 6100u runs Roblox at 70fps consistently, i have the screen overclocked at 83hz lmao I think the problem is that the PS4's cpu is weak as hell, the iGPU is decent but we just don't have drivers for it
@@AxiomPlaysVR Nobody wants to develop that. Asahi should work with some vr stuff like monado and wivrn + native open source apps, but probably anything with anti cheat wont like the x86 emulation.

I like your tinkering, was steam link unavailable for linux at the time? i prefer it over ALVR, no addons just straight steam remote play

I think the reason was the slow speed of the hard drive on the ps4
To be fair most modern flagship phones are around 1200 dollars.

Did you set openxr in the settings? Beat saber doesn't work without it and loading forever is a featuer even on a gaming pc

The PS4 actually runs FreeBSD.
The fact a ps4 in steamvr has more quality and resolution and performance than when i connect my ethernet cabled linked 1000+$ pc into steamvr is wild

The PS3 has a whopping 256mb of system ram, so unfortunately this would be next to impossible
The PS3 is way too underpowered and is PowerPC instead of x86. Basically impossible.
