The main reason swap helped is because you've given the Linux disk cache some room to breathe. When the system is under memory pressure, the size of the disk cache will decrease, causing pretty much every I/O operation to go to/from disk directly (as the cache is just too small for practical purposes), which slows down the system dramatically. Enabling swap lets the kernel move over some unused userspace memory onto disk, and keeps physical memory available for disk caching.
I think that's the bottle neck of my rig is either ram or vram. Dude I haven't messed with my computer in years. I popped it open to clean after I edited fan setting and it broke windows. Thankfully I had a backup but that's happened now times than I care to admit.

High vram usage is caused by the VK_EXT_GRAPHICS_PIPELINE_LIBRARY which provided us stutterless gameplay due to shader compile. Github page on dxvk also has configuration options explained on how to lower vram consumption.

For sequential reads yeah, but on random reads it’ll still be FAR faster, especially compared to those laptop drives, even on sata 2. A drives random read performance is mostly what’s responsible for how responsive your OS feels.
Back when I was playing Snowrunner on ps4 I did the SSD upgrade. Load times didn't improve that much but man menus and asset streaming were night and day better.
On downloading more ram: try setting up swap in zram in such situations, it can be better than only-ssd *sometimes*, basically it swaps into ram itself but compressed (by eating some of cpu power). And keep ssd with large cache for lower priority swap that spills over of course. it will need to be tested at least to make sure that this older cpu under load is faster at (de)compression than your drive's sata lane, try changing compression algorithms, you can imagine the waste of ram if it get slower than sata :D

Hey bringus I don’t know if you will read this but I’m depressed not having fun I’m being pushed too hard in my content my best friend and brother saying your doing bad I’m being pushed too hard I’m also most ready to just stop and end myself but your content stops me from doing that I’m dieing inside but your helping me thanks you bringus
I mean, Leapfrog does have LeapPad tablets, and the LeapTV of all things. If you wanna try their tablets, make sure you get a LeapPad Platinum or LeapPad Ultimate (not Ultra, that was the last generation), as those I know have more power than the LeapsterGS. Also be aware that Leapfrog's LeapPad Academy tablets are Android, and the Platinum I mentioned runs Brio; custom GUI on top of linux
these videos have been getting me back into homebrewing/jailbreaking/modding in the weirdest way
an SSD doesn't really speed up load times because the PS4 has a SATA 2 controller on it. SATA 2 is bottlenecking the SSD.
The internal SSD even runs of USB. They basically put a sata2 to USB adapter on the board.
still superior IOPS and queue depth but transfer times ain't gonna budge
For sequential reads yeah, but on random reads it’ll still be FAR faster, especially compared to those laptop drives, even on sata 2. A drives random read performance is mostly what’s responsible for how responsive your OS feels.
The pro one does support sata 3
Back when I was playing Snowrunner on ps4 I did the SSD upgrade. Load times didn't improve that much but man menus and asset streaming were night and day better.
Love that the cat distribution system gave you Tony and Mystic!
I love the spirit of your videos and how it's been the same since like the beginning. Your attitude is great, thanks for making vids.
27:43 NO DON’T SHOT ME
dynamo had enough
13:32 being entertained while I learn is always worth it. Please do more
Hello master bringus, may you help us european baby bringusses with the task of abusing random hardware and give use the blessing of cheap pc parts
i needed to fly to austrailia but i accidentally flew to austria and now i am stuck in austria the cars are very small and there is no Arbys anywhere i need hlep
@@connors3356haha stupid hamburger man
you and another youtuber i forgot [i haven't watched in long time] are my favorite
A new bringus video ❤❤❤❤❤
The fact this is all on a Destiny PS4 makes me feel like I've aged 50 years
Is this possible with Xbox? Like the whole, installing Linux/Steam? Xbox seems like good value for the cost/power ratio, but I need Steam
Not yet. There is a new exploit for the Xbox One and Series consoles called collateral damage but the homebrew development on it is extremely slow, and there's no linux yet.
@@BringusStudios Darn
I guess Microsoft giving people an easy way to port and run their homebrew has slowed down any jailbreaking efforts.
I feel like bro is actually a underrated UA-cam channel and i subbed.😀
5:20 this man has not learned anything from his previous mistakes
So much emotion... thanks for that kind of content. I don't even have a Playstation 4 and I don't even think about jailbreaking one and do this kind of mod, just thank you very much!
You should have lowered the entire system resolution in general to save on vram
Hey brings studios you inspired me to get into taking apart tech and hacking stuff
funny tech man is back... again for like the 8th time
Man this video helped me so much 😂 it contained at least 3 things ive searched for but never found anything on because i just didnt know how to word it 😂😂😂
*16:51** NICE!*
Okay you got me with that sponsor segment. 😂
frame per second vs seconds per frame
Watching a Bringus video on a steam deck feels like a sort of transcendent experience
a 4k upload for a 144p video. 💀
Well you can see those pixels in very fine quality.
the top 10 first date ideas was a really good bit. even got me to pause and read it. ty.
Did the thumbnail change?
Fucking hell. I just found your channel like 1 month ago and I’m as addicted to your style as russians to rushing B. Your presenting is out of this world. I’ve been watching tech UA-cam since 2012, but this kind of mindset and taste of homour is by far the closest to me. I hope you someday will see this and make you more motivated to keep this awesome work/style up!
PS: The reason that finally pushed me to write this comment is 5:04, HOW CAN YOU THINK OF A JOKE LIKE THIS?!?!😂😂
Somehow, the jailbroken ps4 returned.
This might be the best test at just how stable deadlock is as a program
i know it's probably because of the Linux issues, but i dont understand how a better system can have a game run WORSE
Playstation is an enigma
the linux kernel and GPU driver is no where near as optimized as the official operating system that sony uses. and its not a priority to fix.
Having specialized hardware run a generic OS, then add to the pain with games that aren't built for that hardware, is always gonna be a rough time.
Now, if Sony did something _totally_ unprecedented and actually added support for Linux... /s
@@thewolfin sony and also Xbox require that you sign an NDA before you are even allowed to see the documentation for their API. and that doesnt cover the 10 thousand dollar devkit workstation. that level of secrecy is not compatible with any open source project.
I'm taking the frame of you sitting on the old pc with the ski mask for the factor ad and making it my discord pfp. Thank you Bringus. Loved the video.
Bringus I have an idea for you, there are some PS5’s which are mod able and I think you should do a vid installing steam os, or amog os but hey they are hard to find so it’s just a suggestion 😊
I have one in storage waiting for the day linux drops on it, nobody has ported it yet
That was the best experience I have ever had watching a video at 144p. No regerts.
I wonder what tyler mcvicker well say if he see deadlock on PS4 ?
I don't know if you'll see this, but I was having horrible problems getting Minecraft without crashing, modded, on my new laptop. Increasing the swap file fixed this for me. Thank you so much for your help.
He uploaded
There's something about watching u struggle to troubleshoot and optimize these things makes me nostalgic from when I had the worst parts in my PC lol
8:56 it’s heard to hear the truth
Another masterpiece, thank you Bringle
Install Linux on PS5 I think there is a way :a

22:19 this is honestly the smoothest Patreon plug I've ever seen in my life

It's always a joy to wake up to a new bringus video :D

Thanks bro
I also feed my neighbor's tomcat when he asks. He even sneaks in my pet door in the winter to stay warm.
