I love the dresses. I wish they made more dresses like those these days. And people then knew how to dance!

As an "old guy", when I was in school all the girls wore dresses. I miss seeing a lady in a dress. They all wear slacks now! As an aside the guys dressed nice too!

wow... im in high school now and seeing how different teenagers were then, i have no words. i wish we were all as polite and modest as those teens. i for some reason cant imagine them cussing, spreading gossip and disobeying their parents... so compared to now, well you understand what i mean.

Funicello was the last of the original Mousketeers chosen; she was personally picked by Walt Disney himself. She quickly rose to the top in popularity; at one point in time, she was getting nearly 8,000 fan mail letters per week.
David Stollery (Mike in the serial) followed the lead of most child/teen actors on the Mickey Mouse Club by leaving show business soon after the series ended. He went on to be an automobile designer for General Motors and Toyotal.

It was also a reflection of their upbringing and education. It used to be that High School was designed to prepare a workforce. Now High School graduates have to go to college to learn what they should have learned the first 12 years of their education. In many ways, this has extended adolescence, which explains the contrast in maturity that is noticed.

Roberta Shore ( Laura)was talented WAY beyond her years. When you see her perform this "Three R's Of Today(Reading, Writing, and Rhythm) hard to believe she only FOURTEEN at the time! Amazing! I hate that she gave up performing when she got to be about 21.

@@poetryjones7946 It's hard to know how long her career would have lasted since tastes changed in the mid 60s. Most younger performers took the wise decision to live a normal life and be happy to avoid the traps that other younger performers fell into and ended up being consumed and destroyed by the very industry that made them famous.

RE: the dancing scene at 7:50.....I used to work with a woman who graduated from high school in 1957. I remember her telling me that when she was a teenager, it was "kinda cool" to get nostalgic about the "Roaring '20s". She understood how and why a song like Connie Francis' "Who's sorry now?" was such a huge hit. Yes, teens quickly gravitated to the fun sounds of rock-n-roll and rhythm -n-blues, but there was a certain "Aaaaw! How sweet. I love it!" when looking at vintage stuff from the 1920s...the cloche hats and coats and head bands with little feathers, long necklaces to swing around while dancing, etc.

Has anyone ever listened to the RECORDED versions of "How Will I Know My Love" and "Don't Jump To Conclusions"? They are different from the versions sung in the serial "How Will.." is much slower on the record, and Don't Jump... is sung by Annette With The After Beats a studio vocal group rather than Roberta Shore and Company in this serial. Also I once had a Mickey Mouse Club record, and "Meet Me At The Malt Shop" was sung by The Disneyland Record singers rather than Annette and David

It's a show and theses are actors going by a script. You really believe this is an accurate representation how the kids really were in real life during the times? Dont get me wrong, the shows during these times are indeed charming but the style of reminds me of a 5th grade school play. Go watch the movie "Stand by Me," which is a more of accurate portrayal of 50's life and has a more realistic way people conversed with each other.

@MsPinoke This was an idylic view of middle class life in the mid 50s. Basically, there were some nice people like this. But like all fantasies, this is not exactly a documentary. Many of the films and television shows of this nature portrayed a suggestion of how we wanted things to be, not exactly how they really were. While there was a crowd of people with manners and tasteful fashions, there were also Juvenile Deliquents and rebels as depicted in the James Dean films.

I wish that Disney would go back in and at least change the music for the party scenes...I understand that in 1958, there were more than a few parents that did not like the 'corrupt' influence of Rock 'n Roll...and back then, rather than stir up controversy, it seems as if Walt Disney 'side-stepped' all that by going the 'never heard of it' route when it comes to music..Shame, really. Too, those spotlight songs at the kids 'gatherings'... Yeah, I wouldn't change much else, but definitely the music. Thanks.

I'm not liking the short hair cut. It makes Annette look too old.

If you near Dania(Ft.Lauderdale,) there's the best ice cream place that's been there since the 50'scalled Jaxons. If you dream of malts or ice cream sodas GO!!
