This is how the 1950's were ... I lived in them as a young girl and just loved these kids ..... Tim Considine especially !! Don't kid yourself .... movies and life in general was much more relaxed than today. That's why it's so fun to re-watch these. Seems even today's Disney movies are filled with scary and violent images :-( Sad.

I myself was a bit surprised by how sort of quickly he changed in personality during this part of the series. He was slightly rather against her at first, but then started being more caring.

It startled me a bit when I first heard that they were singing "Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah" during the hayride. Second time another Disney Animated film song is referenced in this show. Earlier was when Katie sung "Whistle While You Work" in a previous episode.

Because of Uncle Archie being a bit stuck-up at first and having no experience in raising a child, it was quite a bit surprising to me when he started being more nice and caring towards Annette by this around point in the show. And I was quite amused and impressed by it.

This is Disney. It was a serial shown within the framework of the Mickey Mouse Club that was on every afternoon in the late 50s. This was one of the most popular ones except for Spin and Marty. There were none of the things someone down below posted. People weren't the same then. They didn't use profanity every other word and they had manners.

  • @randallhenderson707

You really need to be a pre-teen watching in 1958 for this to be the most fun. It was an ongoing serial, so you got an episode 5 days a week during the Mickey Mouse Club. Many of the "other kids" are Mouseketeers, as Annette was. You can even see Shelley Fabares ("Johnny Angel") as one of the girlfriends, which is interesting because I don't think she was actually ever a Mousketeer. And I believe she and Annette were lifelong friends. I loved Judy Nugent, who did come from a show biz family- her sister Carol was married to Nick Adams. The maid, Mary Wickes, was not just in Sister Act but many many movies from the late 30's onward. Annette was clearly the "breakout" star of the Mouseketeers. If I recall we kids ate up this serial - hated Laura for being mean to poor Annette, cheered when she got her comeuppance, etc. I agree it is a totally false view of life, and you did kind of doubt that the Italian Annette Funicello was just arrived from "the country", but it was great fun.

Yeah. There is something to be said for old black and white shows and movies. I used to think they were boring. I appreciate them now. They are just as good as colorized shows and movies. Just don't ever watch Shirley Temple, unless it's "A Little Princess" or "The Blue Bird" in color. For some reason colorization ruins a lot of old films.

Sorry! Very hazy about timelines. I wasn't allowed to watch much television during the week; weekends were mostly westerns, although I don't remember much about them, either! LOL
I did get to watch MMC at a neighbor's after school on Friday (day off from ballet school)--parents arranged for the mother to watch me after school. Both parents worked--not quite the "typical" nuclear family. Good times, though!
