The Halloween ones went nuts on the Facebook carving groups. So many people did those, including myself. These Christmas ones will be over the top as well. Great video Doug!
I will never be a great carver, that talent just isn't in my wheelhouse. That said I still love to carve so projects like these that are created for the beginner are also perfect for me. They are original and unique. Thank you so much for sharing them with us.
Can I just say thank you for making me push a little harder at trying new projects. I just finished the Santa face. I also made him a pipe and carved out spots for the magnet on the back. 🙋♀️. Also carved the old school santa. And tomorrow I’ll try these guys!
Doug, as I have mentioned before, you are the reason that I started carving about a month and a half ago. "Thank you" doesn't feel like enough for what you have opened up for me! It was such a great surprise to find this video this morning! You are so kind to continue to share your talents with the world.
Me too. I saw a video about a year ago flicking through Facebook. I wasn't interested in whittling but something about the video made me want more. Now I can't wait for the next Doug Linker video. I've whittled lots of stuff now and I have folk asking me for carvings.
Thanks so much for your easy carve Christmas gift ideas. Time is so short at this time of year and these look so quick and easy to do. Always look forward to hearing that ping! that tells me Doug has posted a new video. 😂 Thanks again for sharing. 😁🏴
Fantastic idea! I did your Halloween blocks this year for my wife and she loved them. I have been on a tangent of carving gnomes/little men, this will be a breath of fresh air
Perhaps LED strip powered from a battery directly text will help? I’m assuming you are seeing the 60Hz flicker through the ac/dc transformer? Great video!
These block carvings have been so helpful, it gave me an opportunity to work on techniques and reminded me to not get to far ahead of myself. I went back and rewatched the strop video because I wasn’t getting my knife quite right, I also took another look at the Halloween painting video to help me with the finishing. Thanks!
Haven’t done any blocks yet but I did do the hotdog had all kinds of fun with that one and I also did a marshmallow with the same kind of face thanks for the great videos Al from Vt
So cute I wish you could’ve shown of the snowman also, I got a whittling knife and some wood. I’m just starting out and wanted to make some of my friends a little Christmas trinket the snowman would be perfect. Glad that I found your channel !
As with all your videos, I love it. I am planning on carving some of these for family and friends. I have a problem, my ears have been around for almost 3/4 of a century and they like my kids when they were young, they don't listen very well. I cannot understand what type of light it is you put on some of these. What are they, and where can I find them please? Thanks for your help. All my life I have marveled at good wood carvers. I appreciate the way you do it and explain it. A few months ago I started carving because of the inspiration I have received from you. Thanks again and God Bless.
Hi Doug! Love your videos! I just recently started carving and I'm having a lot of trouble getting good slices. I try to follow along with you but it's just not working out. I have a brand new flex cut knife, stropped it, and am using basswood. I just tried making the comfort bird from your tutorial but couldn't even make the first cuts for the beak. I tried to make smaller, shallower cuts but the knife kept getting stuck and chattering a lot and I was worried I would break it. Do you have any suggestions? your knife looks like it just glides right through the wood with ease.
Thank you for sharing your experiences with us. It was a very good example and a good explanation for beginners like me. Could you please hand-carve a vulture figure sitting on a tree branch? I tried one, but I couldn't quite get the chest part and the beginning of the legs :( I wish you good work.
Hi Doug, the flicker effect from your light is because the frequency (60 Hz in Canada) clashes with the FPS of your camera. Assuming that you can't change the light frequency, try changing the fps (either faster or slower) to move further away from the synchronising effect. Hope this can help? Great simple Xmas carvings, I'll give them a go. Thanks and hope all is going OK with your parents house and property. having gone through a similiar situation I know all about it. Steve
Thanks! Good day Mr Linker, I’ve done those great cubes (stacked in one 4 inch piece) and also done the same with the Halloween ones…. But would it be possible to get the same concept for EASTER ? Thank you so much!❤
abut the flickering light, try moving the shutter speed if you are recording 24p or 24 I move a bit more 0f 48 /or 30 more the 60. ,/ 60 more than 120....
Doug your videos are amazing. Only problem is I get very angry when I see your knife go through the wood like you’re carving an apple. I can never get my knife that deep. Tried taking the top edges off like you did and it’s like I’m cutting into stone. It takes so long for me to do a project and it’s not as clean. I’ve sharpened my knives but maybe I’m just a weak little man.
Sorry didn't see the actual reply an Thank you so much u got me into carving 3 years ago been doing it ever since but you gotta do more of the 4 inch little people or animals even
Never cease to amaze me my friend. You are the Bob Ross of wood carving and I literally could watch you for hours and then some..
