Your timing couldn't be better. Two of my granddaughters just asked me to make some fairy doors so they could put them on the backyard tree. All I could say was, "huh?" Thanks!
Mr. Douglinker, I think it's fantastic what possibilities you keep showing us what you can do with wood - thank you very much and I love your channel - I wish you the best
I’ve been making these for about 10 years now - very much the same. The point is, we can never have too many gnome and fairy doors! Thanks for getting this going❤
Those are awesome! My daughter will love to whittle some of those and my mum will be saying, "Those are adorable! You have to make me some!" Thanks for another great little project Doug. And remember, keep looking up because Jesus is coming soon!
Another great little idea and what I like most is your continued reference to 'another little world' and 'secret little world' because that is what whittling is really all about; it's not about perfect representation of reality, it can be whatever you want or imagine it to be. I'm 60 years old and I still like all that imaginary stuff - the escapism - especially in today's stress-riddled world. These little doors can be hidden around the home to be a constant reminder that we do not have to live with modern day stress every minute of our lives. The stress is only as real as we allow it to be - and little reminders of that fact bring us back down to earth. In fact, stresses are no more real than imaginary worlds behind little doors!
This is what I love about your channel, you're always changing things up. Never the same old, same old. Great video Doug! And yes, I expect to see these all over the Facebook Carving groups in the next few days! 🤣
Thanks for another great video! I did a similar carving. Then i had an old tree stump in my yard i attached the door to. Then the stump needed windows and a roof. Lol. Perfect gnome house! Then a garden went in around the stump!
Doug... I've watched this video a number of times and thought, I've got to try this as a gift for not only our flower gardens, but also several of our friends/relatives flower gardens also... I've always love this type of carving, but now, I've GOT to try it as some spring time gifts for friend's Spring Gardens... Who knows, maybe different ones for different seasons... ;>) AGAIN...Thanks for all you do and your wonderful simple, yet beautiful ideas!!! May you and your family STAY SAFE and HEALTHY my friend!!!
Love this little carve. Doug, you are not just showing people how to carve, you're showing them how they can exercise their imagination. If the door is closed you can always carve an open window.
Doug I am a beginner carver and this is the second thing I have tried. The first was to try your bear video and since it was my first thing I have ever attempted to carve it came out more of a bear/dog. Lol! I have enjoyed this one and am now on to paint. Keep up the good work for helping beginners understand.
Haha, right at the end I was wondering about how you'd paint the stone! Looking forward to that video too! Nice little tutorial, Doug! Maybe you could do some more videos on carving inanimate objects?
The round green door reminds me of Bilbo Baggins' front door. I've been wanting to make some of these for a long time, so I'll try to make a bit of time and have a go 😊👍👍👍👍
Thanks Doug for another great video! You got me into carving about three years ago and if I'm not out running charters I'm carving, just about every day. Its come a long way in improvement thanks to your videos and tutorials. Thank you!
Your grand babies going to love them doorways to dreamland. A 60 V gouge could be great for the stone mortar building . Bench hook adds speed and safety so good idea. 👍 I did 2 of the little 🐻 bears you taught last week and they are fun as I was careful. Thanks for the teaching Sir
Oh i wanted to get started whittling again, (and i hadn't hardly started) so i needed something sweet and easy to start with. Oh and i have always love mouse doors/fairy doors! Thank You so much for sharing your talent and ideas.😊
Such a novel idea. So cool. I never would have thought of this. Might have to build a whole house, carpenter gnomes busy swing tiny hammers, smashed thumbs and all. Thanks.
Interesting carving idea, and I do like this fresh approach. One of the things I like about your channel is that when you show carving examples, you are pretty good about giving credit to other carvers which provided you inspiration or from which you copied ideas. Wish all other carvers were as free in sharing credit. I've been carving a few gnomes so I might have to make a door or two to set the scene... and I am going to have to make a bench hook. Always enjoyable to watch your videos, you make me feel like I too can do it... which I do, although not as nice. Thanks!
Teaching wood carving is definitely your forte! Wow, thanks again! Good camera placement, as always, and having the finished carvings insight is what sets you apart from the pack!
Great video Doug , only just started carving, made a candle with a face will be trying a door next for my granddaughter, thanks for making super videos
Doug, I really enjoy your videos and teaching style. So glad that Shawn gave you the shout out, because I would never have known how much I would look forward to finally putting the set of tools a friend gave me years ago that I didn't think I would ever use.
Love it. I made 6 nome doors (not carved) and mounted them to trees along a Mt. Biking trail,......they all were stolen. Sad but at least I know people like these cool little things. I'm gonna try and carve me some now. Thanx bud!!!!
For my mices I mad some doors directly on the ground. My grandchildren are thinking, that the little animals have their home behind the doors.we are so enthusiastic about your carving art and try to copy ,next days . Thank you . Hey from Hamburg Udo +
nice work! I like to use a relief printmaking v-gouge to make detail lines, or just remove wood when working on small stuff with linear details, etc. like these doors.
I love this so much Mr. Doug, thanks for sharing I can’t wait to try it. I’ve been making some of the heart refrigerator magnets that you showed …to give to some of my friends for Valentines !!! ❤
well done Sir - i started doin Fairey doors 3 yrs or so ago ad progress to opening door with stone walls inside and spiral stone stair case - time consuming but turned out nice - cudnt keep upto the requests lol so i quit --- appreciate u sharin cause as always you always have nice lil ideas to makem better - thanks ps that bench pushy thingy - heck of an idea thanks
A week before you did this video my wife and I took a hike through a local park (before our big snowfall) and we found some painted doors attached to some of the trees. We thought we should do this to some of our trees, then out comes this video! Perfect timing, loved this video and really liked your painting of the doors too. The extra layers of paint blended in with a wet watered brush really made it all pop out. You truly are an Artist! Thanks again for another lesson learned...Rich
Thanks Doug. Your videos demystify carving. I found carving to be a bit intimidating but your videos show the cuts and approaches in a way that makes carving much easier to do. I was inspired to finish my fairie house which I am carving out of cottonwood bark. I now make my cuts in a more refined manner so that I am doing a better job. I also did a spiritman on a piece of fresh cut aspen after watching your video on it. I did okay except for the eyes which I am not happy with. I will have to practice eyes. I also like how you point out that the carving is pretty open ended. Being somewhat of a perfectionist I am glad to see that a misscut need not be a thing to fret over as the carving can simply evolve to something a bit different that originally envisioned. I credit your videos for encouraging me to take up carving again after a fairly long period away from it. Thanks again!
You are like the “Bob Ross” of wood carving. I’m hooked
Wish I had your imagination and talent. I really like the lighthearted designs you make. Brings a smile in an ocean of sadness.
Not only do I appreciate carving I appreciate good pencils. Nice blackwing.
I’ve been making these for about 10 years now - very much the same. The point is, we can never have too many gnome and fairy doors! Thanks for getting this going❤
Do you sell yours?
You gave me a great way to dress up a mouse trap Doug. Carve it with the door open and glue it to the front of the trap. Lol
Lol
I think those little doors would make the coolest outlet covers.
Absolutely love this video, can't wait to give this a try.
Those are awesome! My daughter will love to whittle some of those and my mum will be saying, "Those are adorable! You have to make me some!"
Thanks for another great little project Doug.
And remember, keep looking up because Jesus is coming soon!
Your videos are the best, your instructions are the easiest to follow. You are the blue collar carving channel.
