I was coming home from work a while ago, pulled up to a red light, and then seen a brown Porsche on the other side of the intersection. “Ooooh, old brown Porsche…holy crap that’s Randy Pobst!”
Randy is the kind of guy that you could raffle off tickets to spend the day with him and raise some serious money. I don't think Randy thinks he's worth that since he seems so humble, but if ever there was an organization that needed money and could get Randy involved, they would have no issue getting donations.
That is a good idea, honestly.
He's only really known to a relatively small community. 95% of people have no idea who he is
I agree. Imagine him taking you for a hot lap charity not limited to just one winner. Top 20 donations win a ride.

I met him the other day at a local eatery and he’s just as chill as you’d expect based on these car stories.
I was kinda giddy as we talked cars and he noticed my toy in the parking lot, it was hard not to walk outside as he was checking it out.
My wife was laughing at me.

Randy is the type of person that I try to be during business deals. You have to be nice kind-hearted and good calmer laws come back to you ♥️
Honestly being a nice guy obviously pays off good for you spreading the wealth and happiness.
Randy is defiantly a guy I can hear a long journey in, yet still stays positive, happy and keeps moving on and being there for loved ones. Don’t ever change. The world needs more Randy’s.

There is something special about gifting, or nearly gifting a car of a loved one to a friend or family member. When my wife died, I received life insurance money. I paid off her car and gifted it to a very close friend of hers who was going through a lot and was having financial problems. We don't talk much anymore but I knew it helped him put the next phase of his life together.
I always find the Porsche advert "Honestly now, did you spend your youth dreaming about owning a Nissan or a Mitsubishi?" very funny. The answer to that one is "Hell yes!"
I was at PCA event and someone that has met Randy on events over the years confirmed he is has nice in person has in the videos. A super nice guy to be around

It’s incredible hearing these kind of stories. It’s like these multi-million dollar airplanes just abandoned at airports around the world. So amazing. Great story Randy!! Don’t know if you remember Dr Z from Road Atlanta. Emory professor. Car guy through and through. One of those great humans you get the honor of meeting and knowing once in a lifetime. He had a beautiful 996 he brought out to the track when we were working. Anyway, you remind me of him. The way you tell stories. Makes me smile. Be well.

I’m putting in a build for my wife’s dream Targa next week… sure would be a dream to have new and old targas in the garage… always has seemed like an amazing idea. The old one would have to be cheap, and that kind of deal sure will never pop up again. I guess some dreams are meant to stay dreams.
Randy could tell a story about doing laundry and I still would be entertained!

I'm a little surprised the lady with the Tundra could just pull out of the deal she had with the dealership and still get whatever price she negotiated for the trade in. It's been my experience that dealerships always want to give you more for your trade rather than lower the sticker price of the new vehicle (which is great for insurance purposes in case of an accident but not so great when you have to pay the taxes on an inflated purchase price!). At any rate, it's good to have friends that look out for you like family and fun to hear stories about finding amazing deals on the cars we had posters of on our bedroom walls as kids.
Randy could read the phone book and it would be interesting! He does tell a great tale!!

Great story to that 911! I have always thought the Targa looks kinda gross but the story of this one …. I’d actually be proud to own it!
Air cooled Targa SC is one of my dream cars - and I love that metallic chocolate brown color! I have had some “cool cars”, but they were in the $5-20k price range. Could never afford any 911 (air cooled or not). Not a huge fan of the 996, but that looks like the cheapest entry into to 911 club. Guess I remain in the Miata club. There’s worse places to be. 😉

Same thing happened to my brother. He stored his Austin-Healey 3000 with a person from 1975 on, and then my brother died, so the car is still sitting there. Sad for the car.
"How do you lose the synchro in first?!" I had a pickup once that never _had_ a synchro in first, but then, in that truck first wasn't really meant to be used most of the time; it was just for crawling in low-range 4WD. Probably not true of a 911. :)

A few houses from where I grew up sits a red 1985 911 convertible with some crazy low miles on the dash (she said maybe 100 miles). The lady bought it for her husband as a gift when it was new, she caught him cheating, kept the car and it's never left the garage since. She let me look at it once when I was a kid and once two summers ago.... maybe one of these days I'll work something out with her, I can dream!
