As a life long Falcons fan, nothing surprises me anymore from the leadership at the Falcons. It’s like they’ll do anything to guarantee a bad season. Those folks in the front office couldn’t find their ass with a hat. Totally fed up.
I love Raheem Morris from back when he was interim head coach in Tampa. He got the most out of a ragged given up roster and almost got us into the playoffs. I think 10-6. The league screwed him on a bad call against the lions. Offensive PI on a touchdown catch. The league later changed that call during the next week but our season was over and he left. Coaches like him and Tomlin are the dungy coaching tree. Trust in it. They are solid people and coaches. Tampa loved Ra.

But this has effectively been a full circle that started when Raheem Morris interviewed to be Dan Quinn’s replacement and was determined not to have been good enough for the job at that time, only to be given the job the next time he interviewed after the guy who beat him out was fired before the sun could even hit the ground for the first day of Offseason 2024. And somehow it’s only gotten worse since then.

What you have been seeing the past few years, is the NFL slowly adopting the MLB and NBA formula. The owners aren't poor and they're making moves that don't make sense to people right now, but will in a couple of years. Experts and wannabe experts are shocked because they're haven't been paying attention to the changing landscape.
My guess 1. Penix is cover loses if 2. Kirk Cousins to suspension for couple game and Falcon possible fine tampering investigation and long prep future QB owners wanted via Roger’s via Love and Farve via Roger’s and Alex Smith via Patrick Mahomes
In the previous tampering cases where action was taken, the GM, owner and /or coach contacted the player about a new contract. That didn’t happen in this case. Kirk didn’t talk to the GM, owner OR the head coach either. He is rehabbing an injury an injury and talked to the head athletic trainer. And of the teams that were penalized…the player was not dealing with an injury. None of one of what happened with Kirk / Falcons rises to the level of tampering that the other teams were penalized for. In only the most serious case, the Dolphins lost their first rounder. And in none of other tampering cases that were FAR more serious, no players were suspended.
I agree with your assessment but if he just sits 2yrs he’ll still be 26 and unproven. Cousins could stay all 4yrs then Penix is 28 and that’s a tremendous waste!!!
I just went from being a Falcons fan to a Chargers fan. They got the right philosophy and pick the right players. Falcons either draft the wrong player at the right position or the right player at the wrong position (Bad Timing and horrible allocation of resources) Things just went from bad to worse in the ATL
I have seen quite a few comments from Falcons fans about the following: 1) "Penix will benefit from Kirk Cousins as a mentor". Hmm, I'm a Vikings fan and I can say for a fact that Kirk feels threatened by any QB that might take his job. He goes out of his way to not provide any advice. 2) The Falcons can just trade Cousins midseason or after the 2024 season. Hmm, Kirk has a no trade clause and he's not going to uproot his family and move to another city. Also what team needs a QB so bad that they will take on his contract? That said if Cousins goes down with a serious injury this year then the Falcons will look like geniuses.
You start the video with Ian rapport prefacing that the owner wants a succession plan and that Michael penix is for sure on the board for Atlanta. Then you try to say that their GM has to explain the pick after they made it to the owner? Bro this contradictory. So which is it?
The thing is they got them signed for the next two or three years which means they should be trying to win now. And they just wasted a top 10 pick on another quarterback that probably won't even see the field for the next 2 years. They should have got a defensive end, Edge rusher that could start on day one and make an impact and help the team right now because they made some decent moves in the offseason and it look like they were trying to compete for this next two or three year run.. I just think it's a bad move to use a number eight overall pick on a player that won't even see the field for the next few years. They should have got of player that's going to contribute now
Penix is also injury prone. I could see ATL needing another QB in a couple years and going through this all over again. Should've drafted an elite tackle or such to keep their QB upright.
Drafting the QB for Atlanta makes total since if you believe cousins will be successful... getting lucky and getting QB talent at a later pick is a real tool of the dices. Especially when you have a chance to get a guy this high and can groom him for 2 or 3 seasons to get him ready to start one day. Far too often teams throw QB's into the fire too soon.
If their plan was to draft, Michael Penix the entire time… then why the hell did they even bother signing Kirk cousins? You could’ve gotten another veteran for significantly cheaper to play as a bridge quarterback. Like, they could’ve just went and grabbed Gardner Minshew before he signed with the Raiders. He would’ve been a perfectly cheap option that would make a perfect bridge quarterback. He plays for maybe one year and then you start Penix afterwards. But instead now you’re locked into a $180 million contract ($100 million guaranteed) for four years.
Right they basically paid 180 million for a locker room presence. It’s a good pick but sheesh why bother with cousins before hand like that. Especially on the package deal the Steelers got for russ n fields.
People are saying it is dumb, but it is smart. You get a first rounder to sit and learn the pro way and be ready by year two/three. Second, with Cousins, you are not getting an opportunity to pick that high. The world is just so used to instant gratification.
If Penix stays healthy, he could turn into a solid QB in the league. But I agree that picking a QB at 8 might have been the wrong decision... but who am I? Not an NFL scout, coach, or GM 😂
Well, I'm a Pats fan and this make sense. If Cousins will bring what the Falcons expect him to bring, they won't pick in the top 20 the upcoming 4 years. Then Cousins is out, and they will start to look for an early pick, since they expectedly will play bad after Cousins for at least a season. How do you know that you will strike with that pick? They were lucky with the transition from Vick to Ryan, but not that much after Ryan. Now they try to correct the mistake. Just look at my Patriots after Brady. And I'm not sure that Maye will be the long term answer at all. He would need 2-3 year on the bench, but behind who? The Falcons tackled this issue.
As someone who tries to be a Falcons fan for the hometown team, it's impossible. Not because they're a bad team, but because the head office continues to make stupid decisions like this. I cussed as soon they called Penix's name. I assumed they would either draft Dallas Turner or trade down with Minnesota
Naw we don't need fans like u. Instead of b!tchN about getting the best QB available, you wouldn't know why they did, if u been a actual fan the last 7 yrs
Everybody say that stuff until you see Penix throw...such a perfect spiral and velocity. DB's think they've got it and the pace on the ball fools them.
I think he throws weird. It looks like he only throws with his arm when QBs need to use their whole body. You know who does throw an accurate, tight spiral? Kirk Cousins. ua-cam.com/video/-RCh-9miJC8/v-deo.html Sean McVay on Kirk....."People say Kirk doesn't have good arm strength!" McVay said, sounding incredulous. "I don't know what film guys have been watching, but he can make all the throws, on time, in tight windows. I think this guy's arm talent is incredible. It's special. Coaches all talk about it, but I don't think this guy gets the credit [from the general public] for the natural stroke and consistency he displays. The ball comes out quickly and he throws a nice, crisp spiral that makes it catchable. I think when you really saw his arm talent was that Sunday night game we played against the Packers in 2016 (a 42-24 Washington victory at FedEx Field in mid-November). The wind was just howling; it was brutal. When you're down there in warmups, as a play-caller, you're thinking, 'Man, I have to alter some of my calls to account for this.' But I didn't have to change a thing." Mike McDaniel on Kirk...."in his first start against the Browns, Cousins did something even more mind-blowing. Said McDaniel: "We have a keeper where he rolls to his right and there's a guy dragging across that's his first option. Leonard Hankerson runs a post on the backside to clear out the safety; he's like a non-option. And Kirk, on the move, throws it 60 yards across his body and hits [Hankerson] for a touchdown. That play survives in our teach tapes because it's the only time it's been thrown. I love it when that happens, 'cause now I can show that play every year to our receivers and say, 'See -- it could come to you -- so run your fastest.' "
Only explanation is that he could be trade bait at some future point, if he shows he can play. Or maybe they could convert him into a receiver like the Steelers did with Kordell Stewart. Other than those two options, it’s dumb!
As a Dolphins fan i envy the Falcons QB room, you had to pay $50m per year to lure a great vet in Cousins but anything less than that and he wouldn't have signed. There is no better situation for Penix Jnr. than to watch and learn how a true pro like Cousins prepares and be ready for when he has to go in. After the number of injuries that happened to starting QB's last season all the comments about Penix Jnr sitting for at least 2 years seems stupid to me,the odds are he starts multible games this season. The flipside is the Dolphins who have Tua,a QB who has never beaten a legit team from December on and has been given a saloon ride in the QB room with no competition since they dumped Ryan Fitzpatrick who was always better than him.
Coming from a falcons fan, penix is a great player nothing against him but there are so many defensive holes we coulda filled. But we all know the falcons don’t take defensive talent in the first round, we wait for mid players
Adding Cousins was a HUGE mistake and Cousins with his ONE playoff wins in 9 years will not be the solution for ATL. Penix Jr. MAY be a solution and since QB is the most important position, and he was available...perhaps...ATL realized that they couldn't pass up the opportunity to have an above average QB over the BAD signing of mediocre QB, who puts his DEF in bad situations and employs the old Big-8 offense of numerous possessions leading to 55-50 games....due to inefficiency of the passing game. Even the best DEF will suck when they need to hold the other teams for 10+ possessions at disadvantageous field possessions....Don't compare Cousins to Rodgers or other real good QBs.....Cousins is just a bit above QBs like Sam Howell.
I don't how people don't understand that a qb like Penix Jr don't come around that often. The falcons paid the average cost of what it takes to compete with everyone in that conference, In Kirk cousins they know if cousins gets hurt againe or doesn't come back the same player he was lastyear they had to take M.P..jr to assure if they have a franchise qb they will always stay competetive.
Tbh im not too upset about the pick as a Falcons fan. The one thing i was worried about was if Kirk goes down, who replaces him besides Taylor, who also gets injured a decent amount. Trust me, i wanted someone on defense, but at least if Kirk goes down we can see how Penix turns out. What also helps is that barely any defese was taken so hopfully we pick up a dline guy in the second round
Way different. Rodgers had a not great year the year b4, Love dropped in the draft, Love was young compared to Penix, plus the Packers didn't just pick up Rodgers in free agency for 4 years right b4 drafting his replacement. They should've traded back and gotten a defensive player or never given Kirk a 4 year deal. It might all work, but they wasted a pick that could've helped them win this year: Odunze, Turner, etc.
I’m no Falcon’s fan but I’ve been doing this since the 80’s as a child with my dad who has a sports pedigree as a player, so it’s in me and you don’t pass on top QB’s period. And I know nobody believes Cousins is him not even the Falcon’s now that’s simple.😂😂
Falcons don’t want to be like the Steelers getting stuck with an older, injured and bad shape quarterback. Have to get a good quarterback when they could.
Everyone mocked the packers when they took Jordan love and now they are praising them Kirk's deal is a 2 year deal which allows penix to sit and develop build his confidence and hone his skills before taking over
The pick wasn’t baffling. What was baffling is the contract the Falcons offered Cousins. It’s all gonna make sense when the Seahawks and Falcons eventually play. Byron Murphy II, who the Falcons should’ve selected, is gonna lay Cousins out. In steps Penix Jr, and the rest is history.
I guarantee you, Penix does not look at this as a dream situation, he doesn’t want to sit there on the bench four years. Who the hell wants to sit on the bench.

That said if Cousins goes down with a serious injury this year then the Falcons will look like geniuses.
hot take: it’s an under rated pick and over hated
Not signing Bill was their biggest mistake
You start the video with Ian rapport prefacing that the owner wants a succession plan and that Michael penix is for sure on the board for Atlanta. Then you try to say that their GM has to explain the pick after they made it to the owner? Bro this contradictory. So which is it?
I'm glad Falcons went full potatoe and passed on Dallas Turner. 😂😂😂
This is wild 😂😂😂
Cousins will never see the end of his contract. Another concussion or two or major injury and he's out. He's 36 for crying out loud.
Then that contract was TERRIBLE
The thing is they got them signed for the next two or three years which means they should be trying to win now. And they just wasted a top 10 pick on another quarterback that probably won't even see the field for the next 2 years. They should have got a defensive end, Edge rusher that could start on day one and make an impact and help the team right now because they made some decent moves in the offseason and it look like they were trying to compete for this next two or three year run.. I just think it's a bad move to use a number eight overall pick on a player that won't even see the field for the next few years. They should have got of player that's going to contribute now
I don’t think he’s gonna be ready week 1
He'll see the $100mil though
Penix is also injury prone. I could see ATL needing another QB in a couple years and going through this all over again. Should've drafted an elite tackle or such to keep their QB upright.
As a Falcons Fan even a Month Later I can still not get over this pick
Cuz you purchase yourself an NFL team an draft who you want to draft @ #8!😮
Especially on the package deal the Steelers got for russ n fields.
they couldve traded back and still got Penix
This makes so much sense to me
Sit behind Cousins while they push for a super bowl, develop a winning culture around the rookie qb and put him in at the right time, I love the pick.
Penix is gonna be great
If he only has to wait 2 seasons or less to start and he turns out to be a franchise QB it won't be so bad.
If cousins does well they could trade Penix within these next years for players and draft positions in the future like the bears💯
W mike man fr working harder then other youtubers who do the same content fr
People are saying it is dumb, but it is smart. You get a first rounder to sit and learn the pro way and be ready by year two/three. Second, with Cousins, you are not getting an opportunity to pick that high. The world is just so used to instant gratification.
As a falcons who watches every game since I was 8 I knew they would find a way to mess but never this bad 😢
The Falcons tackled this issue.
draftiing penix jr since cousins is coming off a injury is wild since penix jr isnt to far off himself so that cant be why they did it
As someone who tries to be a Falcons fan for the hometown team, it's impossible.
Kirk Cousins. ua-cam.com/video/-RCh-9miJC8/v-deo.html
Sean McVay on Kirk....."People say Kirk doesn't have good arm strength!" McVay said, sounding incredulous. When you're down there in warmups, as a play-caller, you're thinking, 'Man, I have to alter some of my calls to account for this.' But I didn't have to change a thing."
Mike McDaniel on Kirk...."in his first start against the Browns, Cousins did something even more mind-blowing.
Could you do a video where you grade first round picks
GM wanted revenge for Griffin 3 , now primos knows how it feels to be the guy and they waste an early pick for a QB
Yall must be new to the Falcons...😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
As a vikings fan im beyond happy to say goodbye to choke artist kirk. Im ready for the young JJ with his mobility, zippy arm, and swagger.
Falcons fans this is what it’s like to be a Packer fan. Drafting for the future not today
Falcons didn't have to sign cousin's too be honest.
You know you wanted the cowboys to take him 😂 the future is bright in ATL
Atlanta did the absolutely right thing. Panic sits for a couple of years, learns, takes over successfully.
The only thing that is a mistake is paying cousins 180 million dollars. Pendix Jr is a phenomenal player
As a Colts fan, I’d like to say thank you. You may be the reason why the colts got 1st overall pick for defense.
U can always draft a good pass rusher in the second or third round but u don’t leave someone that good on the board
This is reminiscent of Jordan Love getting drafted by Green Bay.
Worked out well for them. I’m not mad.
It's not
The most crazy pick in the draft. Penix at 8th is crazy. Falcons needed a OL or WR or defensive player.
Incase cousins gets hurt and cant compete they have penix to fill in the slot ...why they paid cousins so much ? Pure stupidity 🤣😂
Falcons don’t want to be like the Steelers getting stuck with an older, injured and bad shape quarterback. Have to get a good quarterback when they could.
I agree with Mike - fill one of the existing deficiencies on offense/defense with that #8 pick. It’s a WIN NOW league!
Why is it a mistake AND THE SEASON HASNT HAPPENED YET.
Ya'll WEIRD AF! *Just let it play out! *are you not entertained?!!*
