Part arrived today and will attempt in the next few days. Think I’ll drill a few pilot holes in the cover. Definitely using some decent silicone as well. Good video, very useful. I left the grommet in place, cleared all the debris but permanently removed the plate covering it as it promotes water collection especially if the drain pipe blocks again. The water now runs off without issue to the bottom trays where it leaks onto the floor. This is an example of over engineering by BMW which will cause blockage abd leakage.
Thanks for posting. Far better solution then pull back carpets. Did mine tonight just to clean out the dirt and debris. Will order the part and replace the grommet. Thanks again.

Hi Jules, thanks for the comment. I acan confirm that the fix has permanently resolved the issue. A few other people have also attempted and confirmed the fix. Good luck buddy
Hi Marco, the grommet is wedged in with clips. You need to use a but of force to get it out. Get underneath with a pry screwdriver or a long thing screwdriver and pry it up. Good luck
Not sure but dont think so as your Steering would be in the hole instead of the grommet. I would start my investigation with the window seal then the door card.

According to a previous contributor, BMW Sytner quoted £900 to replace the grommet and a quote of £2200 to replace the grommet and all the carpets. Hope that helps.
I used an absorbent large towel to absorb most of the water, I then left another towel on the mat overnight with the windows slightly open to reduce damp smells
After seeing this tutorial I ended up buying the part/cap myself and asked a local garage to replace it with glue. Few weeks later I've realised the garage didn't do the job correctly as I can see the water leak issue again. Asked the garage if they used the glue and interestingly they can't remember 😭 Going to a different garage tomorrow who seems to be more reliable and they'll strip the front carpet off in order to make sure the job is done correctly. It appears that the Glue is very important to fix the issue.
Hasn the "glue" is important as It acts as a sealant and barrier. Its like installing in a new bath and not applying silicone sealant as a barrier. Once you remove the original yellow grommet, u break the BMW seal, hence you need to create a new seal for the new grommet. This is the main reason its a bit difficult to remove the old seal Good luck
Bmw won’t admit this very common problem and there’s actually 2 different leaks that can cause the rear footwell to fill with water I’ve personally had both. The other leak comes from the rear door vapour barrier leaking also very common in the f10 model nice build quality BMW 🥴

@@23solad that makes sense, I have had to use a dry vac 3 days in a row now so whatever the problem the water has accumulated quickly. That would be fantastic thank you... I have a 2008 330 D auto
Hi, just want to know. Does the yellow part clip in and out or twist? Any help would be appreciated, thanks, Stuart
Hello Stuart,
The yellow part clips in and out. You will need a small flat screwdriver 🪛 to pry the old one out. The new one just clicks in
My bmw 2012 f20 1 series has water in the rear drivers side. Not passenger. Do you think it could be the same thing?
Not so sure. Check.your window seals and door card
Is this the same for e93
I wonder why this isn’t on BMW recall.
Hi great video and information so thanks - I have a puddle in my rear foot well :) do you know the part number for replacement grommet i cant find it
sorry ignore this just found it
@@stephenjohnson960 Thats fine. Any further issues, just ask.
Midlife & Restless all done thanks once again. I got a pry screwdriver made job lot easier I did lose the white pipe trying to clear it out but sure won’t make any difference.
Having the same problem . 2012 530 m sport. Thanks
What i dont get is all this could of been avoided if BMW just weld a piece of metal to cover it up when it was in factory as a plastic Gromit is always going to give out sooner or later might even be a good tactic they know will be a problem so people bring it in for repair it is just a money maker so people have to buy the part got to love BMW allways after your wallet.
hello, just wondering to know that how can i drian the water out.
640d 2013 have exact same problem.
Thanks for posting this really helpful video. I've seemingly got exactly the same issue with my 520d F11 which I plan to tackle next week. Quick question, does the fix (and part replacement) appear to have completely resolved the issue?
Hi Jules, thanks for the comment. I acan confirm that the fix has permanently resolved the issue. A few other people have also attempted and confirmed the fix.
Good luck buddy
@@23solad you legend. Great work and thanks very much for sharing!
@@julesbyeuk1 shout if you need some help. And don't forget to smash the like button 😉
Hi this is very helpgul, however, I am stuck, How did you remove the yellow grommet?
Hi Marco, the grommet is wedged in with clips. You need to use a but of force to get it out. Get underneath with a pry screwdriver or a long thing screwdriver and pry it up.
Good luck
I have a 2012 535i xdrive US(left hand steering) and the water is pooling in the same rear footwell. Do you think it's the same for this vehicle?
Not sure but dont think so as your Steering would be in the hole instead of the grommet. I would start my investigation with the window seal then the door card.
@@23solad took your advice and found that front door vapor barrier was the issue. Purchased some butyl tape and resealed it. Looks to have solved the problem. Waiting for a good rain to confirm.
@@xtravdesigns7756 thats great news. You can always sprinkle test with a hose (on low pressure) as that will give a better test than rainfall. Dont forget to like the video.
Mine blocked up again . I took of cover and soo much water came out. The drain pipe isnt blocked but in side of engine bay there alot of old leafs and gunk but cant get my hand down there
thanks for good video
Hi, thanks for making this film. I have just discovered my car has the same issue. Do you have to replace the yellow grommet or will simply sealing the old one back in be OK (after cleaning out the pipe etc)?
You have to replace the yellow grommet. The current one is damaged which is why you are experiencing leaks. Its no longer good.
@@23solad Thanks mate, that's very clear. I have just ordered one.
@@timmedcalf1357 give us a shout if you have any questions. And dont forget to like the video
@@23solad A quick update that I put in the new grommet this morning - not much fun in the cold but as it's due to rain for the next few days it felt important to sort it out. Followed your approach and only had a struggle with removing the old grommet - it was clearly perished around the edges and the foam behind it was also damp so I am very much hoping it is the root cause of my problem. I couldn't see the white plastic pipe you mentioned, but maybe as I have an F11 it isn't there?? All back together now, I just have to keep working to dry out the rear carpet!!
@@timmedcalf1357Welldone Tim!! :) Proud of you. Having done it, I bet you can see why the yellow grommet cant be reused once removed. I also struggled with removing my yellow grommet and had to use some force. At some point it felt like you could break something else. Dont worry about the white plastic pipe, even though I poked it, it wasnt blocked at all. It was simply a nice to do.
Did you manage to test it? Did Water run down the vent? If so, SORTED!! :)
Please could you let me know where to change the gromeet ?
BMW dealer will charge for this is £500 .
I think you you should watch the video. It's explanatory
@@23solad Hi, just finished, I mean I done it ! Thank you for upload your VDO.
One thing, I put some silicone which we use in bathroom. I don't know work or know !
Been there. Great video 👌
Thanks Darius 😊
How long did it take to do start from finish thanks
About an hour start to finish.
In my bmw f10 water is niside rear left door .Any ideas ?
There is a separate video online for that
@@23solad Where is?
Has anyone a link where to buy the part
Best to buy from your local BMW dealership. Its not a job you want to do again anytime soon, so just buy the original direct from BMW. I have included the part number in the description. Good luck
Bmw Belfast told me they would have to water test the car first , just bought it form a bmw dealership in Carlisle

@@23solad yes £98+vat and wanted to keep the car for at least 3days.
Nice one 👍
Has anyone had this problem fixed in a garage please? Do you know how much per hour they charge?
According to a previous contributor, BMW Sytner quoted £900 to replace the grommet and a quote of £2200 to replace the grommet and all the carpets.
Hope that helps.
Hilda did You sort yours at a regular garage? If so how much was it
@@sajidrahman8356 It'll be a 1.5 or 2 of hours labour and £20 for the grommet. Say £150. Quicker if they don't put the cover back on!
Thank you
How did you dry the water up from inside?
This is the main reason its a bit difficult to remove the old seal
Good luck
Hi guys I’m having this exact issue, how much is labour (ballpark figure)
@@sajidrahman8356 i paid 30 quid fo my local garage. You can buy that cap from BM for £19 i think
What sealant u use ?
Any silicone sealant will do the trick. I used the Mapei Mapesil in Anthracite colour because that was what I had at home.
Good luck

Most likely is. Give it a go
👌
My left door is filling up with water
It can be a pain. Do try this and see if it fixes the problem
Bmw won’t admit this very common problem and there’s actually 2 different leaks that can cause the rear footwell to fill with water I’ve personally had both. The other leak comes from the rear door vapour barrier leaking also very common in the f10 model nice build quality BMW 🥴
