Best video I have seen highlighting this common issue. I had the problem last year and managed to sort out the problem from the engine bay side without taking out the seat. Had to remove a bit of trim on the engine side but was able to clear the blocked drain holes that were causing the water to back up and sit in front of the yellow seal, causing it to perish over time and leak. I too replaced the yellow seal but overlayed it with a large patch Butyl Sealant Tape usually used for sealing leaks in guttering and flashing (my belt and braces approach). However, I now have the same problem on the driver’s side of the car. I fear this maybe a failed seal around the entry point for the steering column through the bulkhead. I don’t think that area is as easy to access as the passenger side via the engine bay, way more engine components obstructing access. I’ve got my fingers crossed this is only a failed door seal. The search continues!!! If anyone that has experienced the driver’s side issue is reading this, any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Literally unbelievable that this is happening to so many cars and the amount of water that is pouring in and the potential electrical damage this can cause.. Never even heard of this before and thanks for sharing this information and bringing it to our attention, it’s definitely something I will look and check for regularly to catch it sooner rather than later 👍🏻👊🏻
@@itsimty I’m no mechanic that’s for sure but find your videos very helpful! In a nutshell how would you drain that water that built up behind the yellow grommet? I read somewhere to remove the grommet and poke around to clear the blockage?
@@larsverwaters3423 with great difficulty, seats out lift the carpet, drain all water, windows open with power heater blowers going into the car 5x days later it was dry
@@itsimty got same problem here also think its the window seal. Dont have the tools to lift the carpet so i will use a blower and hopefully its fixed after that
I think there might be another area for leaks. I replace my grommet, silicone it shut. Even left the cover off, and it 's still flooding like yours is.
I had water ingress on my E92 M3 and found it's quite common, not the same as what's happened to your BMW but water got into the ECU and caused Mayhem with car as you can imagine, the problem was solved by rechanelling the drainage under the bonnet...and dried the ECU out...car's all good now...by the way just want to say thanks for the work you did on my car changing the Rod bearings etc would recommend you first class...👊👊👍
@@itsimty thanks to you. Made my life easy. At least I know where to start. Will be doing it tomorrow as we getting rain almost everyday here in South Africa
I’m not sure but on my bmw one of my speakers blew and made that sound in a high pitched way even kept on doing it will the car locked and off I got told it could be water damage. Not really sure
@@ancientdon964 I couldn't find a local professional to fix it and the mechanics that were willing to 'have a look' weren't prepared to dry the vehicle out so I ended up doing it all myself. Not difficult to do but there was a lot of water in the sponge under the carpet. Took a couple of days to squeezing and dry the water out. Changing the damaged cover bit was easy tbf. Got the part from BMW for around £12.50

Bro is the water pooling at the back of that grommet? On the old one you took out it has dirt half way up it. Is it wise to drain that water out too?
@@tas5247 definitely

@ you need to clear the water drains on the near side in the engine bay you will see the plastic trim where it drips down
@ ok cool thank so much, I will take a look tomorrow, I’ll let you know how I get on! Your videos are so intuitive!
How did you dry the interiour?
