The greatest feeling in the world is when you snap a piece off transforming a masterpiece figure, then realize it was on a ball peg. SAVED! Absolutely love this figure. The transformation is a bear, but the way it goes from the rounded potato shape in the back into Shockwave's blocky legs is pure genius.

The missing instruction: use the [tight] ankle tilt when tucking the feet into the fuselage, to align the bottom of the feet with the inside of the fuselage hull. Once the feet are in the magical position, every damn thing tabs in perfectly and everything suddenly tabs together to make the alt mode feel solid.
If everything you say is true, this figure has suddenly become WAY more appealing in my eyes. A figure not locking together solidly has to be one of the worst feelings with regards to TFs.
I applaud their their concept - indeed, I think there's real potential in turning non-transforming elements of TF into weird transforming fun ideas - but I want to like it more than I actually do.
I got mine a few weeks ago. Easily my favorite figure of the year so far, really fun to pose, and the alt mode is awesome. My last two X-transbots figures were trash (dr egg and locke), but this version of shockwave is very satisfying. I hope Lemontree makes more figures!

I only got the PP just a few days ago........ funny thing..... When I got it & transformed it, all I could think of was this is right up BS's alley. Can't wait to see his review. I think it's AWESOME - The 'Bot mode is Incredible but the Alt mode is ABSOLUTELY SICK! ! ! ..... minus the fiddly transformation so not enjoyable. I will say the Engineering is very clever though, just fiddly. I RECOMMEND IT . It's gonna sit in Galvatron's Starship mode for me :)
A problem I ran into is that you can rotate both inner and outer thigh flaps out of the way - that grey bit that slides on a ball peg out of the way. The first time I did it, I rotated the wrong one out of the way and that gave me the same issue Bobby had, where the back of the ship didn't close up because the FEET wouldn't go entirely inside their half of the ship. If you're having the same issue, try rotating the other thigh flap instead.
Great Vid. I have this and it's a really well done figure. Hefty and solid. It does have ankle rockers, they are just really tight. Order of operations when transforming matters more than most figures. If you wait and do the back end after getting the abdomen and everything pegged in the middle, it goes a bit easier. It isn't the smoothest transformation overall. The ship mode just speaks to the 86 movie lover in me. Going to pose it in ship mode with Unicron. I'm actually surprised bobby didn't like this figure more. If 3P was putting out bots with this quality of build, hardware, electronics, and detail like this before FT dominated everything, we would all have scrambled for it in a heartbeat.
You are so bad about ab crunches man. That thing bends all the way to the floor, it's as good in the ab crunch as the Optus Paxus, and Magic Square Light of Freedom, you just didn't push hard enough. There is a Rocker. The biggest problem with the transformation is the head flap. The altmode rides on it tabbing in solidly and it doesn't. It'll hold if you can peg the bottom in really tightly but that one flap kills it.
@@stevenCG2005 I corrected two factually inaccurate statements he made, and then agreed with and explained why the Altmode doesn't hold together well, as well as a way to get it to hold together a little better if the top tab doesn't work. The comment had nothing to do with me liking the figure, and there for having won. I'm mixed on it my self, but he made false statements that give people the wrong picture.
Leg transformation reminds me a lot of Mania King\Galvatron, which actually works for me since he is one of my favorite 3P bots I have ever bought. I've got this guy on pre-order purely for the ALT mode for display. I think I'm still in on that, no worse than Studio Cell...No Regrets!
Thanks for the review. I thought the upper body part was fun and intuitive. It is still baffles me that with all the obscure thing there is on the transformers brands. There is not a good representation of the ark or nemesis. I hope lemon tree continues with this trend and do the same for the ark nemesis and perhaps lost light
Figure is well articulated, decent materials, decent bot and decent alt mode. For $120, I’m not sure why you won’t recommend it. Is it because you just loaned it and already have FT and Takara? 😂
this figure man!!! i'm the only person (deathsheadII) on tfw2005 to have a total nightmare with it i was losing the will to live and doubting my own existance !!! and ended up removing half of the thighs getting into ship mode and calling it a day lol my knee ratchets where i was trying so much to get that back of the ship together stripped so the ratchets are now friction joints , i think this figure won't last the test of time if you are into transforming your transformers all the time the plastic feels so soft to me , where you peg the front half of the ship/arms into the back with those 2 solid pegs by the ships bridge they started to strip and the peg holes are too big meaning it just don't hold so all that is holding it together there now are those light purple parts that peg into the top of the ship . even had a tab just fall off around that area it's like it's made from gummy sweets lol its all about the ship mode so thats the mode it will stay in forever
Ah, my old "Nemesis" Deathshead. Seriously though it sucks that yours is trash. Still I've gotta ask why you'd drop the cash on something to display in alt mode? I'm guessing it's to go with Unicron, and that makes me think the only reason LT made this thing was for people to put next to Unicrons. Seems like a lot of $ for a model spaceship is all I'm saying. Would've made more sense to make a set of quality non transforming ships.
@@GibDozer1 because thats what i wanted it for :) it was just that back part but it turns out those feet click in a little bit further which allows for the 2 back halfs to easily squeeze together ... everyone reviewers included were not seeing it ! it's how i ended up stripping plastic on the pegs trying to push things and tab things together because those feet were just slightly out of line :( i stand by the plastic is really soft and i don't think it will last loads of transformations and those knee ratchets will go like mine did .... that said it looks great in both modes and the robot mode has a crazy amount of articulation all my figures i buy to display not play :) yeah it was to display with unicron stuff it's in a cabinet that has the fewture unicron head above it and the studio cell unicron in there too , also have the huge soldier story unicron statue , sadly missed the boat at the time for haslabs but got money waiting now on the very very very slim chance i will be able to get one for under £1000 lemon tree 100% timed this for haslabs release someone is working his way through the ships or seems to be doing so "studio oz" he's done the ark which i own and is amazing and he's working on the purple nemesis ship at the moment ( not the galvatron ship ) will cost you a few $ tho , cost me nearly £200 with shipping ect ontop , he's also done his own take on unicrons head which i skipped due to owning the fewture one and a light up cybertron sculpture which i own and cost a small fortune! but they are hand made custom pieces .... he did say he was working on a unicron planet mode but he was hitting problems like with how to light the rings
Agree with your comments on the materials, but totally disagree with your overall evaluation. I think this is an absolutely fantastic bit of engineering (yes, slightly let down by materials) and wouldn't describe it as a shellformer *at all*. I'd love to see more companies doing somewhat "out there" ideas like this, and personally I couldn't be happier with my purchase, and would recommend this guy whole heartedly to anyone who thinks the concept is cool. But hey, different strokes for different folks!
I really wish we could have had interchangeable heads. Energon's 'Tidal Wave' head would have been a far better choice in my view. It would also explain where he's been. The idea of a long missing, psychotic, Decepticon dreadnought tingles my soul.
The shoulder joints on mine were frozen, I had to take the figure apart and apply silicone lube to loosen them up so I could properly transform this - I love both modes, but I think he's gonna be in Spaceship mode forever now. It just feels like it wants to break during transformation.
No. People that say that he celebrates everything FT does don't pay attention to his videos. He always calls out FT for their flaws. He ripped the FT Arcee apart because of the paint jamming the hip.

Thanks for another excellent review. I had been tossing around the idea of picking this up for the alt mode. I looks pretty cool with the lights on, and I like the gimmick of how the turn on. I think I will give it a pass though. It is too expensive to not have better quality plastic. There are other bots I should buy before this.

Bobby I appreciate your solid factual reviews, this one was a hard pass for me and I really wanted this figure until I watched your review. These 3rd party companies are making sub-par figures and while they may look really good they are being made with cheap plastic, charging ridiculously high prices and extreme non-playability that will most likely break at some point. This is becoming a sad ongoing trend with many of these 3rd party companies #x-trans.
I think the opposite 🤔. Handled well but not a very good idea. Probably the biggest issue this thing will face. Most collectors would have to talk themselves into wanting it.
Biggest issue I see is who wanted this? Seems Targeted at a niche market within a niche market. Sure it's a cool idea, but ultimately it's up against established solid renditions of the character that do turn into lazer guns. Mp scaled but not in harmony with Masterpiece, seems like a poor choice for a fledgling company.
I wanted it precisely *because* it's a unique idea. Another Shockwave that turns into a laser gun would've been of no interest to me, and I suspect there are a number of collectors who feel the same way, given how many decent MP renditions we've had of him already. As far as I'm concerned, more of this kind of thing, please!
@@Ashpolt Yeah, I always see people say that in UA-cam and TFW threads. I have no doubt YOU are sincere and there is a small market for this. If half the people who say they are going to buy figures like this actually pulled the trigger they would be the most successful transformers iterations ever. Every company would be making highly stylized versions of every character! I'm not knocking this figure, the designers, or the company. I've been in this hobby a very long time and stuff like this always fails... Yeah a few people will buy it, but when push comes to shove, most won't. These will sit, sit, sit at retailers until they go on deep discount in a few years. Maybe this figure is the one exception, I hope so. I don't root for anyone to fail, but I've seen how this scenario plays out too many times.

Mine has a hip ratchet that is half a click off straight, and that made the back end incredibly frustrating.

Yes a few have. Its just not necessary and it leaves a big hole in the side of the ship. Doesn't look bad either way.

the head goes further down than that just push the head back a bit first so it doesnt bump the chest
the ab crunch also extends and can bend much further

but its a pretty deep ankle rocker, definitely usable.
the ab crunch joint and the ankle rocker joints need to be bent at a certain angle for the vehicle mode to line up properly

Yeah, I always see people say that in UA-cam and TFW threads. I have no doubt YOU are sincere and there is a small market for this. If half the people who say they are going to buy figures like this actually pulled the trigger they would be the most successful transformers iterations ever. Every company would be making highly stylized versions of every character!
I'm not knocking this figure, the designers, or the company. I've been in this hobby a very long time and stuff like this always fails... Yeah a few people will buy it, but when push comes to shove, most won't. These will sit, sit, sit at retailers until they go on deep discount in a few years. Maybe this figure is the one exception, I hope so. I don't root for anyone to fail, but I've seen how this scenario plays out too many times.
In my opinion the original alt form kinda sucked... a lasergun?!?! This Altmode is way more in character for shockwave in my opinion!

And my favorite alt mode for Optimus Prime is the crazy cybertronian tank he was in Marvel Comics issue #1. Doesn't mean a toy version of it would be successful. If you prefer this iteration of Shockwave to his G1 lazer gun, Great news, here it is buy and enjoy!
