I'm super happy with my DS. Looks amazing. Color is perfect and he just looks more intimidating. I'll never understand how people get angry at you for saying how you feel. Fun video.

Bobby's transformation bits are useful because if someone's going to break a figure during transformation ... well ... you know what to look out for ;-) (and that's my big fear with these things, so I really appreciate that Bobby is willing to put himself out there). #TeamFatFingers
To me, a transformation (both ways) is a mandatory for a review. I see no point in a review that doesn't show it :) You "other" guys can simply skip the transformation part and problem solved

I like the ds more. The waist swivel, the color scheme, the proportions, and the price definitely is better on the ds imo. While the ds lacks the ankle forward and back rocker and the takara has it, that joint is so loose that it only serves to destabilize the entire figure from being able to stand up on its own. Not going to completely bash on takara though, they have some nice paintwork and up until the release of the ds, I thought that mp 52 was the best g1 transformable starscream.
I think it speaks volumes of 3rd parties dedication and heart that they continuously compete so closely to the company that owns the license. Thinking about my collection I think the only Takara stuff I have are the autobots, but Im sure that will change over time. Especially with the recent FaaaannnnnssssTooooooyyyyyysssssssssssssn reveals. I think the Mirage VS was a tie too. Which is pretty fascinating being Transform Element. Another great vid BSF!!!
That one was more impressive, considering it was a brand new figure competing against a 5 year old version from a different company. To MMC(?) Sphinx defence there also was a release being more cartoon colored than the one Bobby used so a slight loss for TE if accuracy would tip the scales, but great for those that missed out on getting Sphinx or just dont like that particular company for some reason. But then again i dont know or particualry care if TE released a 2nd version of the same mold just like MMC did with their release.
It's funny watching people get defensive about going for MP52 or DS, because I own and like both. I think most people would agree with me when I say, MP-52 is a great figure, however, it is inexcusable for it to cost as much as it does, with its complex transformation, to NOT have a waste swivel. A waste swivel should be a given at this point with modern figures. And before you make the excuse that Starscream never swiveled his waste in the cartoon, has Starscream ever flipped anyone off? Didn't think so, dumb argument to defend the indefensible. I was in for MP-52 Skywarp and Thundercracker, not anymore. So when DS makes a Thundercracker and Skywarp, I am buying them for my Seekers.
I've been looking at these two for a while now. I haven't pulled the trigger on either of them but I think I'm going to get the Takara. I really like the proportions of the DS but I can't get past 3rd party companies breaking the cockpit sculpt just for the sake of the waist swivel. The DS almost executes it perfectly but that tiny little break and the reportedly troublesome transformation makes me lean more toward the Takara. Great comparison as always, keep up the good work!
To me the takara color is more to his movie colors which are darker. Like you said it goes to what you need it to do. I went takara as the transformation is easier
There are plenty of other channels if people are looking for transformation guides. I come here for your opinion and commentary. Besides I've seen figures limp off after you transforming them. You put out some great content for collectors.
Great job, dude. I hope you keep content coming here. Otherwise I might have to follow wherever you are. Right now, I don't do any other BS. I was probably too harsh on your TT review. I apologize. This was definitely a great vs. Cheers.
You done good with this one, Bobby. I really do appreciate your level of analysis on this. The two figures are so close, it comes down to very specific criteria to judge between them. I don't own any Maketoys figs and their Seekers look ugly to me, so men. I do love that Gerwalk halfway mode that TT is able to pull off from the toon.
I think I might have switched if the DS were the same height as MT. I do think it beats out MT by a fair bit, but being that tall... I just wouldn't be able to reconcile that. $ saved.
I was a fan of badcube, i like this transformation, what hurts it is the tolerance, but just the sheer presence of the ds does it for me. Great vid! I've never like the Maketoys , so I'm good no need for the vid..lol
Can't wait for tfcon! The last MD one was my first TF convention and I had a blast. Stopped by your booth and said something about how your voice sounds different and if you add an effect in the videos. That shit was awkward as hell, I'll probably say something less doofy next time lol Speaking of tfcon, the DS piece is on my shopping list there. I enjoy a complicated transformation and if it really is the same people behind the TE figures, I'm in. Their Optimus Prime is one of my favorite figures of all time. They somehow managed to make a figure that exceeded at every single thing I put high value in when it comes to transforming robots.
Fascinating. As I said previously, I think a vs with Maketoys would be a conversation worth having. I really thought the DS would clean up here. From afar, the transformation looks interesting and achieveable - is it perhaps something you have to experience in person? I'm surprised Takara got articulation - I think it has more joints you don't really need and lacks joints (or range) that you do. I think I perhaps feel towards Maketoys the way you do toward FT. The inability to angle the shoulder vanes is a big omission in the MT and the DS achieves many little transformation miracles but I still find myself wanting to want the MT more.
It's not a great transformation, but it's no worse than a lot of FT and XTB transformations. At least what happens during the transformation is obvious and clear. It's not like you're moving a bunch of indistinct flaps and it's not intuitive what's even happening. And it's not a constant wrestling match like FT thomas. There are three major steps that are a little awkward and not very well thought out. One of which is getting the wing tips past the torso without scratching it, which BSF didn't even really struggle with.
Thanks for doing these, really appreciate all the hard work. Sorry to hear about butthurt commentors on YT taking it out on you, you definitely don't deserve it. Keep on keepin on!
Really interesting, and agree with the final point, TT was never an option for me for the price, and the lowest point of the DS isnt a deal breaker as I won't transform it often.
I really don't understand how many times this needs to be said: that "sunbow scale chart" is just a piece of paper that DOES N-O-T always reflect what the scale was in the ACTUAL GENERATION ONE CARTOON ITSELF, you know ?????? The seekers were definitely bigger in the ACTUAL cartoon (which is what most of us strive for, and not some 1-photo-chart), also for example Shockwave was never as dwarfed as MP29 made him to be, which is why I keep FT03 on my MP shelf because HE JUST FITS IN PERFECTLY SIZEWISE, while MP29 is just TOO SMALL. Maybe MP29 is accurate to some scale chart, but it is NOT accurate to the ACTUAL cartoon we watched as kids, Shockwave should be MP13's size, which FT03 is. So, it's the same here, DS Starscream wins the size battle for me as he is more accurate to the ACTUAL G1 CARTOON 1984-1987, compared to which MP52 is too small. Have a nice day
You do realize that Sunbow Productions is the company Hasbro hired to make the cartoon to market the toys right? It is absolutely official. DS is too big.
I do have to point out, albeit a little late, but the ds front kick skirt peice does come all the way up, it is a little sketchy but loosens up allowing for the full kick forward
You respond to EVERY comment. It's really telling on your need for everyone to think you are cool and explain everything people dont like. Viewers don't want to hear 10 minutes about a couple or even one hundred comments. It's a waste of time to address haters. It shows you feel like you have to explain away everything
nice compare vid, i appreciate the hard work that goes into making these things and look forward to hearing your thoughts on the hobby in general so keep up the good work. oh yeah and Diaclone, sure im up for more of that
Hey Bobby great job ... took me awhile at first to understand the way you do things but you quickly became one of my top reviewers. Appreciate the work and content you put out even the ones I disagree with. It's my first time commenting ever .Keep up the great work , blessings to you and fam.
It's been cool hearing your girls grow up in these versus videos. I remember before Baby was even asked and now Baby is talking real words. And your oldest now sounds like this exercise couldn't be more beneath her, which is amusing af. :)
It’s a good comparison. I agree, I’ll go for the DS :) i like your opinion on evaluating the toy “it’s not a tutorial “ hehehehe. I get a clear idea on weather I’ll buy it or not. Thanks for the honest and none biased opinion.
So by extrapolating your last Starscream versus video, I assume it would place the Maketoys at the bottom of the pile by point count? I have all three now but I do really love that Maketoys Screamer. Wish they'd finish their Coneheads.
The difference in colour between the two simply comes down to the animation cell shading being made up of two colour shades which either shows off lighter highlights or darker shadows on the character. I believe Takara colour sampled what I believe was meant to be the cell shadow on the lighter base, however they saw this darker colour as the main body colour and the use of the lighter shade being used to simply show off the lighter highlights on the said darker base colour. I think most viewers of the animation saw it in the opposite way to Takara with the main body colour being the light base and it being the shadows showed on the base colour. Deformation Space took this view as did Maketoys. It comes down to whether you saw the two tone cartoon animation of star scream either showing the ‘highlights’ on him or the ‘shadows’.
Also depends on where your Starscream source is. In the early 3 part More than meets the eye, Starscream was seen as more grayish than white with a white stripe on his wings next to the red one showing it was NO animation error, but later as the series progressed he was more often colored white making that white stripe on his wing less visible and make less sense until season 3, were we can clearly see the only time he was gray again was when he was supposed to be standing in shadows. On the other hand it can also be explained by the licensing from Boeing being more in line with the original coloring of the F-15. I dont really know since since last time i saw that particular jet it was a quarter a mile away and on a sunny day parked next to a runway
@@zilvertron I hadn’t considered it matching the original real world colour of his jet mode, that could have been a consideration I guess, its just because Takara are on the tip of making everything now purely screen cell cartoon / 86 movie accurate, that I think it’s cartoon colour referenced. Personally I like the colour in jet mode (perhaps because it is more real world) a lot more than in his robot mode, for me personally his base colour has to contrast more to mp36 Megatron’s grey, and this then also allows his characters darker tone face colour to stand out more.
They based the colours on the original animation model and Starscream is darker on that (as he is in the early episodes). As the series went on he was coloured lighter, which is shy so many remember him that way, but strictly speaking the Takara is more 'accurate' to the model sheet.
I'd like to see the Maketoys Vs with DS. Also, I only watch transformations by reviewers if I'm struggling with the figure and I need a tutorial. To be fair, I use EMGO's JTI's for that. Otherwise, I usually skip the transformations in reviews. I skip slowly through yours just in case you've hidden a skit in there somewhere.
Same, that usually the part I either 2x speed or skip entirely. Really wish 3P started making more affordable non transforming hyper articulated figures like Flame Toys. That way we can skip this whole part.
@@YakBat The problem with Flame toys is do you want to pay 500 USD for a figure that is highly articulated and detailed but no transformation, OR pay 300$ for a figure that do transform, not much less articulated but way less detailed but hidden among a collection of dozen or more robots? By that i can save 200$ and spend it on another figure i enjoy and transform if i would ever wish than have a very detailed and articulated statue. Flame toys figures are great looking, but most of the time they just price themselves out for me to even bother trying one out. (The numbers are taken out of my own ass and does NOT reflect any real life priced robot figures. Any similarities is purely coincidental and merely used to prove a point.)
@@zilvertron hence why I said affordable. Currently Flame Toys has no real competition and as they are official they need to be that expensive to be profitable. DLX is not in the same league in my opinion not same market. The only 3P company that comes close by a 100 miles is that Banana Force. Improve on that, for about the same price and 3P can have a whole new avenue of revenue.
Bobby, I think you are an awesome person to watch perform transformations!👍😁 Awesome review! I would love to see another versus with Make Toys!👍 I also would go with the DS and leave it in robot mode!😂
I myself prefer DS simply because it has a better presence on my shelf in bot mode compared to Maketoys. I will keep my Maketoys in plane and probably never ( maybe once ) transform the DS. I just find it interesting that they tie out even when Takara’s is just about double the price ( I know you accounted for it ). Great review!
Excellent comparison review. I loved your explanation at the beginning, people do watch you because they respect your opinion, even if they disagree. My Takara Starscream is my current favorite transformer of my collection, but I totally respect your opinion.
I agree. I watch for ur opinions. I often just skate to final thoughts. Our opinions are mostly similar. Even when not I know ur final thoughts are uncut & honest. The only time I questioned tht was ur take on the Bumblebee movie. I sensed tht u wanted it to fail & was unfair to it. At the end of the day I find ur bottom line reliable & know it's truthful
I have all three, MT, Takara, and DS. Maketoys is the only one I'll keep all three Seekers for. Selling my Takara, and couldn't care less about my DS. I really think Maketoys destroys all of them STILL, especially after I discovered how to line up the cockpit in robot mode with the piece of cockpit on the waist in order to get that fantastic waist swivel. Yeah, it breaks up the tiniest piece of cockpit, but that's all. Maketoys looks better in plane mode for SURE, but the bright, vivid paint job on all three seekers and the sculpt on the Maketoys is the winner for me.
MakeToys's ultimate sin : They made a MP seeker mold that was fun to transform . ... and also attached the weapons to the shoulders, where they aught to be connected according to the cartoon ...
The third party has such a clean back!! The best backside ever on any of these jets! Period! I’m sold. The Takara’s grey is too dark! Will they ever get it right?
I think that there is a kind of misunderstanding in the articulations department - at least as a review part. And maybe it's because it is too hard to come to a conclusion otherwise. But for me the thing is, that were I to crown a winner i that category, I would surely choose Deformation Space. Because slightly better articulation in parts where they both are somewhat adequate, is less important than for example a non existing ab-crunch and waist-swivel? Does that make sense? Not a diss nor a complaint, but only my thoughts on it... Love your channel :)
I'm super happy with my DS. Looks amazing. Color is perfect and he just looks more intimidating. I'll never understand how people get angry at you for saying how you feel. Fun video.
I’d be curious to see a three way vs using Maketoys 2,0.

Great video Bobby! I have the takara, but i think I gotta buy the DS now too!

Maybe MP29 is accurate to some scale chart, but it is NOT accurate to the ACTUAL cartoon we watched as kids, Shockwave should be MP13's size, which FT03 is.
So, it's the same here, DS Starscream wins the size battle for me as he is more accurate to the ACTUAL G1 CARTOON 1984-1987, compared to which MP52 is too small.
Have a nice day
You do realize that Sunbow Productions is the company Hasbro hired to make the cartoon to market the toys right? It is absolutely official. DS is too big.

Yeah, sorry man - I think I'd love to see the Maketoys have a run here. My vote is for yes. DO IT. Great review as usual!
"I'm not going to get either, either." Cool sentence with the same word twice in a row, but pronounced differently.
Do you still display mp-11 or a different starscream?
"BOBBY-IMA TAKE MY TFS HOME IF YOU DONT STOP LEAVING ME NEGATIVE COMMENTS-FACE"
Bobby and The Light!!!
Great Vs. I have both and I don’t know which one I like best yet in hand. Good pieces for two different shelves
EXACTLY....Bobby.
Bobby,
I think you are an awesome person to watch perform transformations!👍😁
Awesome review! I would love to see another versus with Make Toys!👍
I also would go with the DS and leave it in robot mode!😂
someone played your lights at the back
Holy shit! Jaina sounds so grown up. Time flies faster than seekers.
Well, that kind of sounds patronizing, which I didn't mean. Jaina must be pretty near adulthood so it makes sense. Just feeling old, I guess.
How many Sit Down Saturdays does it take to change a light bulb???
I would like to see a MakeToys vs Deformation Space video because I have both on my shelf and cannot decide between them.
I would like to see the Meteor vs Takara Starscream.
MakeToys's ultimate sin : They made a MP seeker mold that was fun to transform .
... and also attached the weapons to the shoulders, where they aught to be connected according to the cartoon ...
I so want the Makes Toys vs DS. I want to see If Bobby will actually decide to change over 😁
I look forward for Deformation Space to get to work on their versions of G1 Optimus Prime and G1 Megatron.
Rumor is that DS is another name for Transform Element, who already released an MP Prime, TE-01.
@@Ianorig That reminds me of ThreeA, now known as ThreeZero.
The third party has such a clean back!! The best backside ever on any of these jets! Period! I’m sold. The Takara’s grey is too dark! Will they ever get it right?
DS can do the side splits, just that those front hip flaps are f*cking ridiculously tight!
Good versus episode. I think DS will check the box for me for the things I value. The Takara is still a good buy but maybe later on down the road.
