      Thanks! He was definitely happy!!
      It's a tough situation. The dealership can fix some of this stuff. But a lot of it we don't want them to fix. Because there method of fixing it will be wrong but probably fast. That's assuming the guy they have fix it even knows how to fix half the issues without damaging the car in the process.
      The customer wanted it this way so I could fix it. It wasn't unfortunate situation where the car was sitting so much that a lot of the stuff ended up being worse than it should have been because of the sitting. "COVID cars" for some reason the supplied chain was weird and these cars sat a lot and that's just been normal.
      But t many of the other problems Obviously happened during manufacturing and are much harder to explain.

      he does say the customer declined the pre delivery setup/inspection. No way any dealer would deliver a vehicle like this.
      he probably had them remove the wrap to confirm no scratches or dings and drove off. it was in a yard, then a ship then another yard for the last 30-40 days before the dealership even got it. completely normal.

    Unusual and very rare. Porsche usually deliver their cars in amazing condition and their paint finish is by far better than nearly everyone on the market as confirmed by paint and PPF specialists who have to do virtually zero to the paint before coating.

    • @STATUSDETAIL
      @STATUSDETAIL  Рік тому

      Lol is this a joke comment? Literally everything you just said was incorrect lolol.
      Look at all the Porsches I've done videos on with issues.
      Porsche Orlando called me yesterday saying they delivered a touring with similar issues and had to out source to a detailer because it was bad. All the local detailers here are fully aware that nearly every GT Porsche car has sanding marks and other defects.

      @@STATUSDETAIL Sucks to an American I guess. As a % of what they sell and ship the amount you attend to is like piss in the ocean. I don’t recall anyone saying that every Porsche is perfect and of course one only gets asked to correct a car that isn’t what it should be. Rest of the world and Europe have no such issues. I can imagine if a Porsche dealership had the car before you it would not have been in such a poor state of delivery but as you say it came from the docks.
      It’s suspicious why would a brand like Porsche call a third party to clean a car and not PDI it themselves I’m sure they’d wanna do this in house rather than give it to some loud mouth UA-camr who is just going to try to trash them and create poor content

    • @STATUSDETAIL

      @@peterbest5938 do you work at Porsche or inspect new Porsches as your profession? Or just guessing with everything you just said.
      I have around 12 years experience around cars in a professional setting and 7 as a owner of status. Most of our Porsche details are new and the owners say they are new and perfect as you stated until we find all the issues. We make them perfect then ceramic or ppf or both over it. That's why we find the issues and fix them so we don't seal them in.
      Obviously when they are allowed to prep the car it is not dirty. I'm talking about defects and things they miss. I've never seen a Porsche come in "perfect" ready for ceramic. We do have high expectations tho and that's why our customers trust us to make the car perfect.
      I do appreciate your comment but we have two different experiences or definitions of "very rare"

      @@STATUSDETAIL I’m a Porsche owner (991 Speedster, Carrera 4S) plus some other interesting Italian vehicles that are worse out of the factory than Porsche.
      Every ‘new’ car will have something that can be improved but likely not visible under the naked eye. Porsche happen to deliver cars finished way better than most.
      Your content presents an entirely different narrative that all most Porsches you see are terrible and require correction which is clearly not the case at all.
      You are just one of loads of UA-cam ‘detailers’ that like to show off their efforts which is fine but don’t exaggerate by implying a particular brand always delivers its new cars in such a terrible mess.
      Try Bentley or Rolls even and I’m sure you’ll eventually find something to ‘correct’ but that doesn’t give you license to imply these are all terrible and isn’t it wonderful that have you to correct and make perfect.

    Awesome work and presentation, once more! When these cars sit in the holding yards it is disastrous. My TLX Type-S sunroof seals were absolutely disgusting mudded up including the railing.
    As for the delivery wrap markings, that's due to the fact that it's applied too soon after the paint curing and de-oxygenated. Your detailing care essentially re-oxygenates the paint/clear coat and allows for these lines to disappear.
    Being closely in-tune with Porsche import, usually one of the inbound Customs POE is Houston and if it sat in Houston, it is possible that it got some drenched Gulf storms, which means sand within droplets. However, the Porsche Lot Techs are not always (aka: NEVER) to be trusted because they bare minimum "detailing" materials from management and cannot be trusted to provide top notch results... unfortunate but the reality. I tell my customers to refuse ANY dealership "detailing" and get over the "grand reveal" and come straight to me. Usually, I try to get cars within hours from coming off the delivery trucks (often handled by Russian truckers who are more often than none careless).

    Do you generally wrap edges so they are hidden, where you can? I've been told it can wear more and pull away faster vs going close to the edge and want to know your thoughts? I think it looks much more clean where edges are hidden. Thanks, great car!

    • @STATUSDETAIL
      @STATUSDETAIL  Рік тому +3

      Hello John
      Great question. We typically wrap all edge's that can be reasonably wrapped.so the hood for example is fully wrapped. But on the Touring for example where the bumper and fenders meet you would have a PPF edge that's unwrapped. Hypothetically you can remove the bumper and wrap that edge fully. The issue with this is the film will now rub against itself with subtle driving vibrations and end up pushing it self out of that jam and eventually look really horrible.
      The back of the fender by the door can often be tucked behind into the fender/door jam as well. This attention to detail adds surprisingly lots of labor. Because you need to come back multiple times to ensure it's sticking on the back side of panel. Typically it's heated a few times to ensure durability.
      So be prepared for a longer overall install process and typically slightly more expensive job.
      In most cases I'd say either way is equally durable as long as it's done with precision and care. But I'd never recommend the tuck like the fender bumper example.

    You mentioned you had to buff the wheel arch several times, would that not have long term implications for the clearcoat in that area? I often see cars where the clearcoat has broken down on a panel which had been over buffed by a panel shop probably trying to put more shine on a panel adjacent to one freshly painted.

    • @STATUSDETAIL
      @STATUSDETAIL  Рік тому

      Anytime you polish a car you are removing clearcoat.
      How much you remove is going to be determined by the process and the person doing that process.
      What you are referencing is typically when an unskilled body shop person uses a rotary buffing with hard hitting compound in one spot for too long and they burn through the clear and you get a dull spot.
      A brand new car with a good process and some common sense It's incredibly difficult to burn through clear coat.
      What we did to this car left more than enough paint for years and years and years. But if an inexperienced person polishes this car or compounds this car and with the wrong products every year as part of a maintenance for example to make it more shiny than yes of course it's very possible that they burn through the clear coat in a matter of years.
      You just need to know the limitations of paint and you need to know when to not try and correct something or to stop chasing something that you're actively trying to fix.
      The use of paint depth gauges is also very helpful but those don't always tell you thr full picture. They tell you the depth of clear. Paint. Base coat primer. It'll also read things like Bondo and can be easy to spot a painted panel but that's a different story.
      The point is a paint depth guage doesn't read clear coat it reads everything. It's up to detailer to decipher how much of that number is clear coat and how much you have to work with. In my personal opinion on a brand new car a paint depth gauge doesn't tell you much because you know it's brand new paint and you know there's a decent amount no matter what I do it's going to read total depth. It's more helpful when your detailing a 25-year-old car and now we can kind of guesstimate how many times the car's been polished or compounded and then take a fraction of that number and say that much is clear.

      To good of a car to reject. But I could see the dealership paying for his detail. That be appropriate. Maybe not the PPF or ceramic but at least the wash and correction part.

    @4:58 pick up some Hyde’s Serum. “Rust stopper” for this exact reason.

      I'm not a fan. Doesn't do much for inside of rotors throwing crap all over barrel. Or the back of the rotors. It only stops it on the front of rotors.

    Can you share the product you are putting on the interior leather? I have a new GTS coming and would like to use the product. I tried to look in your store, but want to double check. Thanks!

    Great video, too bad you guys aren’t in Europe. By the way quick question, what product do you use to clean the dash and vinyls/plastics?

    • @STATUSDETAIL
      @STATUSDETAIL  Рік тому +1

      Usually a dash and vinyl plastics won't be to dirty. I use gyeon prep or gyeon leather. Gentle spray into a towel and wipe.

    how much do you charge for the complete detail? Also, one of my cars has old ppf cracking on bumpers and side view mirrors. I am thinking of soaking it in hot towels for quite a few minutes. Let me know any faster or better methods? I am afraid to use acetone, since it can damage the clear coat also.

    • @STATUSDETAIL
      @STATUSDETAIL  Рік тому

      This was 6-7k range I think.
      A heat gun will help. Hot water helps. But if You visually see cracks and it's probably going to be a pain in the butt to remove

    Why dry with a wax based finisher to prevent scratching? Especially after clay baring and right before paint correction, probably don’t want to add that layer of wax before paint correcting.

    • @STATUSDETAIL
      @STATUSDETAIL  Рік тому

      Im pretty sure I literally explained this in the video... But still commented about it?
      Gyeon quick detailer is very mild. As in not strong and works as a great drying aid.
      Just because we're about to paint correction doesn't mean we should be careless when drying especially in a black car. It just so happy that this car was hammered and probably wouldn't have mattered how I'd ride it but we didn't know that It was that bad during that wash process so we were still being careful.
      I knew the car was going to need around a compounding and that's going to cut through any wax residue that was in Gyeon quick detailer on about 2 seconds.
      It would be a different story if I was putting ceramic base sealants on a car because that could be a little more hassle but we did not use that

    The real crime here is something as rare as a new GT3 sat at the port for many weeks or even months!! If I was the new owner I would be ripping the dealership. I guarantee this was a special order, dealerships don't get allotments of these cars, they are 99.9% pre-sold

    • @STATUSDETAIL
      @STATUSDETAIL  Рік тому

      I agree but the dealership probably has nothing to do with it being in port? Probably a Porsche manufacturing thing/parts shortage.
      Dealerships just handle paper work and delivery really. Remember we asked them to not touch it detail wise. But obviously this was worse than normal due to port presumably.
