Because they make trash. The Gelandewagen is the most well made off road vehicle in the world and no cheap criticism can change that.
The quality of a GW is in its engineering, but you simply can't compare internal combustion reliability with electric motors, this renders this differential engineering irrelevant. The "quality" of BMW and MB is most in the imagination of old and misinformed people, unless loads of cheap plastic and missed features is now "quality". Both BMW and MB are reinventing themselves, BYD is already in the future. Not a surprise BYD is growing 80% per year.
Mercedes is not worth the cost. Half of the cost is just brand value.
Merc left the quality build because they knew nowadays people's buy the brand,not the quality

Then get an old defender 300 tdi, it won’t go fast it will never go fast but is the tank and will take you wherever you want. It doesn’t follow trends neither. Among all on my garage and we are talking about a depot the old school defender is the keeper not the fancy V8 with terrain response neither any V10 gas guzzler that always reminds me of scanning neither the rest but solely the Defender is all that a man needs in essence a tool.

@@CTA24 Big, it maybe but it doesn't have buch monster look. None of the German SUVs have. Combination of curves and lines give you best result. G-wagon is all folded paper lines and other German SUVs are curvy. Wrangler, RAM TRX, Bronco , Rovers, even GMCs are combination of curves and lines.

I want a car which looks stunning even parked. I want to look at it and admire as I park and walk away, as I approach. Sorry, but not a single German car (except a few Porsches) tug at my heartstrings.

The Chinese have made a very nice SUV.
These two trucks should not be compared its like comparing an orange to an apple.
The G wagon is an ex military vehicle that has been sophisticated those people who want to pull up to a board meeting in a nice vehicle and still go off roading on the weekend. The G wagon sits with the big body range Rover, the Toyota land cruiser and its brother the Lexus Lx and Hummer H1.
The right comparison for the U8 would be the Lincoln navigator and Cadillac escalade.
Got a Merc and was happy with it, but with the new crop of next level capability, technology and luxury for the same or much less money, I would be sick in the head not to consider this or a hose of other Chinese cars for my next purchase.
With extreme weather, heavy floods are very common globally, yeah, I will get a car that floats too. Just for the safty of my family.
Even if it was the U8 that was the chariot that transport Elijah to heaven I will still choose the Gwagon

I can tell you for sure reliability and longevity is far better, otherwise they wouldn’t offer lifetime warranty unlike Mercedes 3 yrs/ 36k miles.
Only thing I can’t argue about yet is resale value until we see the numbers.

Exactly. This is a stupid comparison of two very different vehicles. The G Wagon is not a luxury SUV it is a proper off road capable vehicle. A proper comparison would be with a Maybach SUV, or
Range Rover. The only reason they push this is because Russians can no longer buy new Western cars, so Chinese brands are being promoted. Even the Russians are skeptical about Chinese brands.
But his price is very luxurious.

How can the OP compare the G wagon and the Yangwang? Gwagon has been on ground for more than 4 decades and still maintains same features which makes it iconic. The Yangwang is on a different pedestal and not in same league with Gwagon.

The "Land rover Defender COPY U8" looks better however you comparing 2 totally different purpose built vehicles. Reliability over time will tell if the U8 will stand up to the Legacy of the GW Merc on and off road .
This is trash comparism. The luxury Mb SUV you should have done this with is the GLS. The G Wagon is not designed for ultra comfort. Mercedes was going to phase it out for the GLS in the early 2000s, but customers panicked and over ordered.

U8 has a combustion engine too (generator) which will never need service for its life span.
In fact, you don‘t need to service your car at all, hence a life time warrenty.

Ever since I was a kid, when all my friends loved the Gelentwagen, I never understood why this car was even needed. The exterior design is disgusting, the inside is no better, and it squeaks like a piece of bucket, and it costs like an airplane wing.... I can't say I like the yangwang in design, but at least it's not shit like the G63.
