I’m sure Mlp g5 would never be as hated if they just said “g4 and g5 are separated” I don’t see the point of it being in the same universe if they’re not gonna even try to give us answers
The G5 should have been separated, I agree. It would've been better for the show's writing and reception, since the writers couldn't handle trying to please the fans with the lore they were messing around with.
The main reason I hate G5 is because they burnt away EVERYTHING. And I mean everything, not just in Twilight’s lifetime, but the whole history and development of Ponies

I don't like g5 because I feel like twilight sealing the magic away kinda ruins everything g4 worked up to. Twilight worked so hard to bring all creatures with all different kinds of magic together instead of having them fight to the point of near war. The entire point of the show was to show that even though people argue, that they can work to make amends. I don't feel like a random unicorn pushing fluttershy would be drastic enough to cause outrage between different species and in turn, result in a crystal being made to give & take away magic for whatever reason. Which also begs the question, besides dragons, where are all the other creatures we came to know & love? The world building makes no sense to me as well, they obviously don't live where g4 equestria was since we see in the comics the ruins of canterlot & fluttershy's home. What happened to the crystal empire, the school of friendship, etc. Overall, g5's plot feels incredibly rushed and confusing. A lot of people argue that we need to "give g5 a chance" but to be honest, we did. we really tried to see it through, but we were let down with countless plotholes, inconsistencies, etc. MLP g5 was supposed to tailor to a new generation of kids and people who grew up with g4, because the stories were connected, and quite honestly thats a great way to make more money. But it didn't do a very good job in execution imo.
Agreed. When I found that out I just gave up. They made G5 a G4 sequel only because G4 was so popular but if this was the route they wanted to go, they should have just made G4 a bunch of Easter Eggs and not the official past.

But they seem to be very low on good righting and lessons and this g5 seems to be for younger ages instead of all ages they made it resemble modern time which takes away some of the magic of g4 and I feel g5 resembles shows like paw patrol more than mlp g4 also the comics seem to show more than the show and seem more adventurous then the show too......can someone also explain to me about how spike became dragon lord where's amber and why does all the dragons look the same...and why dose spike have such a deep voice...animations like g5 can be nice at times like in movies but these animation are limited on what they can do and create, those weird dragons are a good example on that.
The inly reason G4 is so popular is because of it attracting not only kids, but also adults and teens, by making the focus more on kids and technology, takes away what attracts the older generation of ours, the characters have no appeal, we don't have any attracting villains, making it boring :/ Edit: oh shi I js realized I had 1.5k likes thanks sm!! + g4 tackled HEAVY subjects, like tribes, famine, death, anxiety and even depression, they also were all about friendship with the plot all about that, and valuable lessons, making the whole show more lively. G5 has no plot, no memorable episodes, a whole seperate universe than g4, no heavy subjects, etc... For example: in g4 there's the episode with princess Luna, having that black mist that she created to always remember what she did as nightmare moon, even tho they're entirely separate people now. Luna is dealing with regret, low self-esteem, depression, etc... That episode really hit me since i was going through a similar experience and it allowed me to relate. G5 is just... ponies i guess.
eacakly, I was around 12 watching the movies and series of the gen 4 and now as a 19 year old, I still sometimes talk about it with my sister, Gen 5 is where I was so very confused, the gen 4 were 500 years in their past, but yet everyone was divided and forgotten the history??
No but I just HATE when fantasy shows use modern social media stuff. Like I think tech and magic together can be interesting sometimes, like with Winx Club where it´s kind of futuristic, but I SWEAR TO GOD if I see ANOTHER magic fantasy version of TikTok...
I mean, it can work. I remember that The Owl House had magical tech that worked pretty similar to actual tech. The setting is pretty modern too, so there's that. But like, it's not super relevant or overused. The focus is on the magic and plot, the magic tech is more of a minor detail. I also remember Winx, that had tech there that was used alongside the magic. Having some sort of magic tech can be cool if A- it doesn't interfere with the plot, or B- it actively aids the plot, as a tool the characters can use along with the magic (either using together or having characters that specialise in using one over the other), rather than being a sideplot thing.
Technology is okay since they can add fantastical elements to it, but what is the deal with making social-media obsessed characters? Truly, I don't care about characters who act like influencers, it takes me out of it.

Like, if the characters casually use social media to see fun stuff or interact with their fans and whatnot it's not so bad, but when they make a character who only talks about what's going on social media and whatnot it bothers me so much. As a school age teacher, I don't know any students who actually watch MLP G5. I saw more merchandise and pop culture even towards the end of G4. I have a feeling that making G5 was a mistake... they should have either rejuvenated G4 by making a spin off series with the same characters rather than scrapping it all to make an entirely new generation of ponies. Like others have said, they should have made G4 and G5 have separate universes at the very least. However, I don't think that would be enough to make the show more appealing. The lore is too linear, the characters have shallow personalities, and the villains are bland.
It's so cool to see a school teacher here commenting about MLP!! And you're totally right!! G5 wanted to be what G4 was 12y ago bit failed miserably. I like to think G5 is just a alternative universe which has NOTHING with FIM
@ToonTimeEUA It's definitely amusing being able to connect with your students in such a way because we like similar things. I also love Miraculous Ladybug, which is popular amongst my students and more recently, Descendants 4. I'll put a song on from the show after they finish their work and we'll sing together. I also taught a few classes in schools on how to create Minecraft mods, so talking about Minecraft and the updates is also fun. :)

There was an initial idea for G5 to be it's own thing, with several elements of it making its' way lazily into this new generation: chief among them was the Tribes and Races being separate from one-another in different _worlds_ and not different cities: with a world meant for the Unicorns, one for Earth Ponies, and one for Dragons, and that these worlds all existed together as different branches of a World Tree. A concept that's mostly realized with the Crystal Ponies and Breezies requiring the dumb Together Trees in order for the five to access these other realms in the show.
One reason I can’t really see g5 as a sequel to g4 is because of the stealing/sealing of the magic by twilight sparkle….it was shown in g4 that such a deed was considered one of the highest crimes via how tirek and cozy glow were treated….so why would twilight remove the magic that’s literally essential to life and much of equestria…..it makes no sense……for example….what happens to cloudsdale if there is no magic to keep the flying city together, same with no magic to let the crystal heart keep the crystal empire safe……it’s like they are ignoring the possible mass murder of so many but taking away something that is fundamentally needed by two groups in their equine society…..and let’s not forget the sea ponies, who are hippogryphs on land….would removing all magic lock them into one form they happened tobe in at the time, since the change was magical in nature, or would it turn them all into hippogryphs at the bottom of the see thus murdering a third tribe possibly…..thus I can’t see g5 as a sequel to g4 because twilight wouldn’t mass murder or risk doing such just to solve a “friendship problem” even on a massive scale
@@princeedmirovillar8044 I could accept it being an alternate parallel world, like the ones created by starlight glimmer…..but I just can’t accept it as canonical for main storyline…..the things twilight learned with her friends over time would have imo taught her not to cause such a drastic and hasty action….even in response to someone like opaline being a potential threat, and the great divide was only made worse by taking away the magic….so yeah, just can’t see main timeline twilight doing it…..parallel offshoot I could see…..especially since we never saw what happened to twilight in those other worlds….theres alot of plot holes that never got answered….but the discrepancies between g4 and g5 makes a lot more sense if you view it as an alternative timeline also….a small change in one detail, in say the far distant past could stimulate an entirely different but similar future which could have its own branching timelines…..
mainly just bc twilight knows how important magic is to equestria so I don't understand how she would have ever made the decision to take the magic away just bc of one alicorn when she has the ability to take opaline's magic and leave everyone else's
it's really simple despite having some flaws ,g4 had creativity and passion put into it ,interesting concepts and lore ,heartfelt lessons ,the world locations looked fun ,that's why it's still memorable and enjoyable
Also the artstyle...G4 was very stylized and had emotion with exaggeration occasionally to help convery stronger emotion. The new cartoon G5 just looks like those "American adult cartoons" their eyes dont have much emotion or too much emotion, its either "kinda emotion" or "so exaggerated it's a joke" emotions instead of like when in G4 where they were able to cry, be angry, and show emotions that aren't just positive and they were taken seriously, G5 also has a very basic art style in general with not much thought into the anatomy, whereas G4 made them at least move kinda like horses.
I heard that the Windigos never appeared in the movie because they are magical spirits, but the world didn't have magic, so they couldn't have manifested
@@coleslostcake Correct, we now know that only the active part of the ponies' magic was "turned off", only magnetic hooves, the magical cutie marks that allow an opening to elemental magic (it seems to be rare) and nothing else was "turned off" ", the internal magic remains intact. Only the ponies had lost their magic. But; these chimeric critters had also lost their magic, and Old Discord in the IDW comics ages because he also lost his magic - implying that anyone "touched" by the ponies' magic can lose their magic when the Unirt Crystals are "turned off". The Unirt Crystals have no effect on "dead" magic in non-living objects, enabling an automation of the magical activities in the magically active world. As with the weather control through the automatic weather machines. The dragons have their own magic, although, like the ponies, they also had to share their access to active magic with the Dragon stone, which Opaline was able to drain without the dragons discovering this in time. All "foci" that make use of active magic have been concentrated in the Unity Crystals and the Dragon stone - all magic had to pass through these. The windigos interestingly may be based on pony magic, because their aggression was mostly directed at the ponies from which they encouraged and then reaped negatively charged emotion-based magic and converted this into extreme coldness. That means they must be able to use pony magic. It may have made them very vulnerable in the face of positively charged magic through collective cohesion such as unity, friendship and harmony. But the old fashioned rainbow magic that Twilight commanded from the internal magic of the element bearers is known to be deadly in contrast to harmony magic. So Twilight exterminated the windigos. But; as seen in MYM Ch. 1 and other episodes in IDW and TYT it was shown that uncontrolled emotion-based magic could cause very dangerous consequences. It was this that led to the creation of the Unity Crystals - Twilight's masterpiece and shame.
my theory is that since friendship wards them off, twilight, as the princess of friendship, was able to single-hoofedly keep them at bay. altho the Scootertrix joke where Twilight hunts them all like it's a sport is funny.
I thought that they were defeated for good in the end of Friendship is Magic. That or Twilight found a way to keep them away since she created the Unity Crystals knowing that the ponies might not get along in the future and her and her friends wouldn’t always be there to chase away the Windigos. It could also be explained away by the forcefield Twilight put around Equestria kept the creatures away.
What about before the magic went out they were still separated because if the main characters were born into the separated world how come (the Pegasus) said the magic just “disappeared” she had to be alive then and that means there would’ve been windigos before that but nobody seemed to mention it in the movie
G5 shouldve been seperate from G4, it ruins the continuity. plus, i feel like G5 couldve gone for a similar approach in 2D style similar to the 2017 MLP movie.
The way I see it, G5 is really just a weird week branch of G4. If Hasbro had written a new pony story that took place in a whole new world, then it would actually be G5.
My main problem with g5 is that the writing just isn’t very good. It kinda seems like the writers just had the attitude of this “is for kids, so doesn’t need to be good.” The sad part is that the movie was actually pretty good. Then after that they kind of just stopped caring. It had so much potential to be good but it wasn’t.

As a former still sorta Brony, I won’t hate on the animators, writers, or fans of this series. I will however speak my own mind and opinions. I feel the show doesn’t work as a sequel, let alone fits into the MLP FIM universe. It not only disregards and retcons all the hard work Princess Twilight and the other kingdoms made as a whole to unite, but changes what made the show special to begin with. The whole point of FIM was to show how the kingdoms could get along and how friendship goes beyond boundaries. The show taught us many lessons from how to be honest, to how to stand up for ourselves, to how to change bad habits, and even how to respect others for their differences regardless of race. I would say more, but you have to watch the show to figure it out. FIM ended on a good note with Twilight uniting the kingdoms, taking over all of Equestria as its true ruler. She had friends, a family, and all Equestria supporting her. While fanfics and comics try to continue where here story, they were certainly better than what G5 tried to give us. I understand that children grow up and new generations need something to call their own, but what was the issue with just renewing MLP G4 or at the very least reintroducing it to kids of today? The show may not have always been perfect, but it had heart and soul. It touched all of us and made us connected as a whole.

A large majority of people state that G5 is merely atrocious compared to G4, and is, at worst, avarege on its own. But if something contradicts itself, is composed of the most generic and unoriginal tropes imaginable, is ennuing and nonsensical, and to top it off, is low-quality in its animation, than that, my darling, is a bad show, and this is the ending. It is even worse in this case, for it being a sequel to something very expanded, and fails to accomplish its goal. To be completely honest, I think that something like combining G4 and G5 characters could still be done that would take place after The Last Problem. Which sounds rather perplexing.
Tbh what they should have done because gen 4 was still popular was take the Young 6 and make a new era. The main 6 have their duties and aren’t in the picture anymore but the young 6 take the story and explore more of beyond Equestria. They literally put in so many story opportunities the season before they ended the show 🤦🏻♀️ (TLDR they could have made a “reboot” where instead of the main 6 it’s about the young 6 and made new versions of the old gen that everyone loved)

What would have been interesting is if they had had made gen 5 be the Young 6 finding their own country versions of the Elements of Harmony that were like different kinds of “positive trait” magic. Cause there gotta be ones other then the Elements that have been lost to history. Would have expanded the world building of the universe too.
It’s pretty obvious that the creators wanted to make an original story while milking the G4 nostalgia to gain views and they ended up missing the mark by a long LONG shot. Honestly I think G5 would have had a better chance of success if the creators stuck with the original plan to make a reboot of G4, that way they could have made their own original story while pulling in older fans through nostalgia. I mean that original concept had Twilight as an earth pony with the same magic based cutie mark, we could have had an in depth look into earth pony magic that wasn’t just strength or suddenly being able to grow plants. It was a seriously huge missed opportunity and hopefully once G6 comes into play we’ll get that G4 reboot, here’s hoping 🤞
I think. They didn't even get creative enough with the phones. It's not much but, like, they got magic and yet they use hand (or hoof) held smartphone bricks. And it just doesn't work. In G4 I remember they definately took into account that these were ponies and thus utensils and such were designed and used as if they were being used by ponies. They held pens in their mouths. They put books down on tables. They had enchantments and stuff. I imagine it would be relatively easy to just standard issue an enchantment into those things so it looks less awkward. It's a little thing but it really does just. Irritate me. It shows a lack of care in the world building.
I really don't like G5 it's so weird it doesn't have the friendship is magic in it and only 1 villain is in it i love the old one better or de most where Twilight and her friends is i love them very much i wanted to know what happened next how did they grow old and who lives ? The reason I hate G5 is because it not only wants to cash in on G4's preestablished world and references to tease older fans, but also because it's terribly written with 0 focus and direction. G4 had direction and focus and knew where it wanted to go with the plot both in each individual episode and in the overarching story. Twilight becomes Celestia's replacement as the princess of friendship and this is how she gets there. However G5 lacks this. I have no idea what they want Sunny to achieve in her future, or even what she represents as a character nor can I make any context based guesses as to how the series will end and where our characters individual stories will end with it. From season 1 of G4 I could basically see every character's future right in front of me and wanted to root for them and watch their journey in sweet anticipation. G5 makes me roll my eyes as Pip once again loses it over a dumb tik tok challenge or there's a single frizz in her hair. Basically G4 cared a lot more and invested time into its development while G5 is just trying to cash grab its audience.
Velma gets a lot of hate for being a Harley Quinn Knockoff. Make Your Mark gets its hate for the overwhelming lack of effort. Take the badly written plotline for example from hijacking a factory from the Cloverleafs to letting Opaline get away to fight another day to dragons creating a weakness by putting their power into one stone. I think Tell Your Tale is forgivable for scrapping bad plot and bland polygonal shapes with overexposed shading in favour of simple bold outlined characters that you seen in a lot of modern cartoons today, plus short stories with original songs and mysterious lore. "The Rise and Fall" was a neat little cartoon that told a brilliant story in only five minutes and had everypony doing and acting different, whereas the CGI remake "Roots of All Evil" was terrible with ponies stupidly running around in circles like milling and clashing theories of "Don't go near tree" and "Do go near the tree". 44 minutes of CGI animations shamefully wasted. I always thought of Sparky Sparkeroni as a clone of Grogu from "The Mandalorian" and not a G5 version of Spike, who's appearance in Make Your Mark was also wasted and sporting a Lownote Jones voice. Not at all the G4 Spike that we all know and love. Thankfully Make Your Mark has been cancelled so hopefully Tell Your Tale will take this generation in a better direction. In my opinion they should let go of the G4 references if they cannot implement them properly.

Yeah, I mostly agree with the things you say here. And especially the last thing you said, they could've been further away from G4 stuff since including Spike and doing all that they did with those things kind of turned out as something that most people who care about it, hate it. I like the earlier Make Your Mark episodes and I like the lore and story in general most of the time, but later on in MYM it did end up being at a lower quality in writing, was pretty disappointing. Sparky was a very interesting idea, since I was wondering what they'd do with the traditional Spike in a world that already had/has one, but I think they ended up doing the dragon role pretty good for what the situation is. It might have been too confusing to have another character named Spike in the same universe, I guess, and Sparky himself might not be super interesting but he could theoretically play a part in more interesting magical stuff and it's wholesome to see him with Hitch. Oh gosh and I had forgotten about Spike's super deep voice 💀 But at least the dragons were kind of accurate to the canon, since they were all adult dragons and had the form for it (on all fours, like when Spike first went to the dragon lands and pointed out the adult dragons vs teen dragon bipeds.) Hate the show I do not by a long run, but the end of MYM was a bit of a mess and Season 2 of TYT has been continuing pretty good (they better do more with Allura soon, but that'll probably happen mainly in the specials... And I don't know what happened to visiting Skyros, which they were going to do but then they... Just didn't?)
that's not why people hate velma... it's cause characters are gender swapped for literally no reason, beloved characters are made to look like jokes or given hatred for no reason and because the creator is a horrible human being
Just because it has 3d-style and then a lesser budget 2-d style? Honestly, I hate to see people say this as a criticism or insult... It's just different in the 3D version, because it's 3D, and that's also totally new to MLP in general. G3 and G4 don't look like knockoffs because they're totally different from the other gens, I guess, but G5 is too similar in terms of colors and design maybe? And what, because Filly Funtasia is 3d and _it's_ a "knockoff"? Anyway, maybe it "looke" like a knockoff, but when you're actually watching it... All it frickin' is, is a simpler show than G4. Which nobody would make a big deal about, if it wasn't for the fact that they mostly watched G4 in the first place because it's a rare kind of show that's for kids and also super awesome and interesting anyway.
@@eglol This show looks like a cheap Chinese rip-off or a UA-cam Kids show made on the fly with a budget of two bottles of beer. MLP fim had simple and cheap flash animation, but it didn't look eye-catching simply because the drawing style was cool - sometimes cute, sometimes funny. I can't count the times when I paused the episodes just to take a screenshot of another hilarious frame with a meme-looking face, and the new generation... It just doesn't have it. The ponies don't look cute, they look like human heads mounted on a walking chair in TYT. The 3D cartoon with better character designs, but due to the low budget, everything looks extremely plastic and ridiculous.
G5 is the worst sequel because the villains and G4 characters are forced into the story and messy also all the characters all really annoying ESPECIALLY SPIKEY I mean all he dose is burb I swear I wish he was like spike. Also there are no character arcs really. Another thing that doesn’t make sense is that Twilight Sparkle and her friends couldn’t defeat opline although they had defeated many over creatures but Sunny and her friends(who are not really that experienced deafted her twice! Another thing is that I hate the way they brung social media and iphones into the show because it’s teaching and encouraging kids to be on social media all day! Plus there are SO MANY creatures and more that we don’t know what happened to. I was also REALLY keen for Equestria girls to come back5:19. I even write a script for a special were the mane 6 discover the human world! Bc I was bored tbh. So yeah
It would have been much better if they just did G4 in their middle aged years I would have love to see them do things during those years maybe slowly develop the creatures (that attended twilights school) become the new main six.
Like she said, it doesn’t feel like it’s going anywhere. Kinda just feels like a MegaMind remake of the G4 but with better animation. Seems like they’re just kinda milking it for new fans to emerge and to snatch views from old fans who watched it for the nostalgia
My number 1 issue with G5 and the reason I haven't even given the show a chance is its entire premise - the ponies live in fear and distrust of each other, meaning Twilight and her friends FAILED; but above all else, it breaks lore by not having the Windigos bring forth the eternal winter this separation should have brought! So, it commits 2 cardinal sins of bad sequels - it undermines the prequel by making the protagonist's journey be a failure, AND it breaks lore right off the bat!
I think the biggest hinderance of G5 of My Little Pony is the attempts to tie it into the previous generation. I think that if G5 wasn't attached to the previous generation, and it was just its own thing, then it would just be middling. But with so many of the rules and conventions of G4 straight up missing from G5, the series is significantly dragged down.
Also it's kind of funny how the hate in G5 is kind of refreshing people's interest in G4 again. I've heard/noticed more fanfictions being made and have even watched up to the beginning of season 3 again myself. Or further.... I can't remember ^^'. I think I watched to the end of season 3 so far
In 4 years of G4 we had Nightmare Moon, Discord, Queen Chrysalis, King Sombra, Lord Tirek. We let G5 cook and just gave us a Saturday Morning Mustache-twirling villain with no story or interesting design.

honestly, my best friend LOVES the show, I was hesitant to watch it cuz I grew up with gen4 and the changes from gen5 was a bit too much at first. And honestly, the Netflix movie wasn't bad, I enjoyed it a lot but the rest ?? I watched everything so far and it feels that every potential it has is getting wasted and it's just so sad to see...I hope it will change because it can be so much more interesting !

@@shangothunder1055 Well Imo gen4 still had a lot more going on than gen5, the new generation feels empty and without any actual main story points to me I'm fully aware that mlp is mostly for kids so the stories can feel without any interest or sense to older people, but being an adult I still enjoy gen4, gen5 seems to aim for an even younger audiance

I hate G5 so much. It's so childish and the characters are so annoying. I am glad to see that I am not the only one who thinks G5 stinks. Every character needs more development and the story line needs so much more attention.
I'm sticking to the ongoing theory that the writers had initially wanted to make a coherent sequel to FIM. However, thanks to Discovery Family having a choke hold on the broadcast rights to G4, the writers were largely forbidden to use anything from it. Because of that, G5'S team had to hastily rewrite the whole show. Giving us the mixed bag that g5 now is.
G5 including tech is so annoying to me! Like, I enjoy fantasy as an escape! Stop putting in shallow irl features, give me emotionally educational stuff! I don’t need therapy if G4 can teach me to be my own therapist!

Twilight and her friends literally fought against so many creatures, had so much character growth, and then she became a princess, but this new generation sticks some rocks together and boom, princess?
A few things that bug me: 1. Sunny IMMEDIATELY became an alicorn when twilight earned it over three seasons. 2. Old mlp lore, out the fucking window. 3. The attempt at making g5 2d makes it look like something on UA-cam kids and not at all like g4. 4. It's awful. 5. It hurts my eyes.
My Little Pony has been a huge part of my childhood. As a child, I was drawn to the villains like Nightmare Moon and Chrysalis, admiring their style and presence. Instead of being scared of the villians, I found their stories entertaining, as they highlighted why Twilight Sparkle needed friends and the importance of not being isolated from the world. The show taught valuable lessons about friendship, including that conflicts can happen but can be resolved through open communication. It showcased how even royal sisters like Celestia and Luna faced challenges but forgave each other after a thousand years being seperated. Each pony represented a different quality: Applejack was honest, Fluttershy was kind, Pinkie Pie brought laughter, Rarity showed generosity, and Rainbow Dash embodied loyalty, culminating in the magic of friendship that Twilight Sparkle represented. Overall, MLP emphasized how friendship can help solve problems and bring adventure in Equestria and that you don't have to do everything alone. When I saw the new characters, I was honestly a bit shocked. I expected the characters to have much better quality and a more stylish look, especially given the technology we have now-similar to what we saw in "My Little Pony: The Movie" (2017). It frustrates me that Generation 4 looks so much better than Generation 5; it really upsets me. It feels like the creators of MLP decided to cut corners and just release something for easy money and attention. I have a large family with many little kids, and not a single one of them has watched Generation 5 or bought the toys. It seems like all of Twilight's and her friends’ efforts in Generation 4 were completely in vain. Additionally, I really dislike Pipp's cringe-worthy addiction to mobile phone social media and streaming; it’s not a good example to show children, as it portrays this as the norm for the new generation. The new animation quality keeps getting worse and feels cheap, with little effort to include or even mention the various creatures and races seen in previous generations. It makes me feel like the new creators don’t even know about any of the MLP shows that came before. I also don’t like how the pony races have reverted to hating each other, as if nothing ever happened. It doesn’t make sense to me, considering that Twilight and her friends worked hard to bring them back together and got along. Let me know what you guys think. I'd love to hear your opinions and sorry if I got any information wrong. (I didn't really watch the whole new G5 of MLP since it was just so disappointing.)
1. There is nothing from the original movies and shows 2. The characters are cheesy and kinda annoying 3. We grew up with the classic mlp, so we don’t associate the good memories we had watching the old movies with the new ones 4. what i hate is everything about g5 but what i hate the most is the fact that they literally change the whole story like this show could have waited untill g10 i just want to know more about the main six the young six and the six pilars and pretty much everything
They did spike so dirty😭 The animation quality is horrible compare to the original 3D animation in the MLP movie. Why did G5 have to be a “continuation” of G4 😭😭😭 Also the thumbnail looks really good :D
I would have disliked the series far less and have accepted it to be its own thing if it wasn’t canon to the Former generation, it’s the same mistake hasbro has made before with transformers: robots in disguise, making it canon to their other more successful series, transformers prime. Regarding all pre established lore, Character assassination and change of tone. Even besides the generation comparisons, I was also very disappointed how downgraded the show felt from the movie, I had far too many hope for the franchise, which just ended up hurting me more

Plot and consistency aside, I think the issue here is that MLP G5 is another show that fell victim of this new trend of "stupid shows for kids, because kids are stupid and they cannot understand such deep concepts". I'm not saying that G4 was oh so dark and traumatizing, but they managed to make a show that's fun primarily for children or minors, but also adults may find something relatable on it too. It's not impossible, but some companies seem too afraid to try this as years go on, you can notice in other recent movies, series or even right here on UA-cam Kids. I love My Little Pony as much as the next person ok, big nerd on the subject and it was my whole childhood. But I can’t STAND Gen 5, I’ve tried to introduce it in my life, I WANT to like it but something about it just doesn’t feel right :/
Just my pet peeve but i never liked 3d animations, especially tv serise animations. Im ok with movies using 3d but when it comes to tv serise they look so cheap compared to 2d animations (and they are most of the time)
The reason why I didn't like G5, is because it Involves technology which isn't "realistic", and makes magic seem unnatural to the MLP universe, the colors of the main cast do not match their personalities, the main character didn't quite deserved to be a alacorn(?), don't like their 2D art style, also don't like the 3D look on G5, Basically, that's all I have to say
I think the thing that makes me the most irritated about G5 is its representation of Twilight. I suppose maybe she wasn't in her powered up, elder alicorn form yet when the hologram was recorded, but DAMN does her 3D design look bad. Also the show, its characters and its story are so dumbed down it hurts. I legitimately cannot watch it because it grates on my nerves so hard. Also you may need to be made aware of the sheer amount of toxic conflict that goes down between G4 fans and G5 fans nowadays. Pretty sure there's several videos covering the topic so I won't go indepth about it here
If it was a completely separate and new iteration of the franchise, it wouldn't have gotten so much hate. A lot of the concepts were more interesting than what we got, I'll admit. The company wanted to capitalize on G4's popularity and believed the end result would be the same for G5. They were obviously wrong.

The fact they pretty much shot themselves in the proverbial foot by not having a definitive idea behind the series. There were leaks/rumors about a different take on G5 which sounded much more intriguing that wasn't tied to G4, but then due to the popularity of G4 they decided to figuratively crowbar the two into continuity, even if lore-wise it'd make no sense whatsoever: Only tertiary references like Twilight Sparkle having been alive and undoing her legacy by outright destroying it, let alone none of the other creatures exist despite wanting to convince us (and fail at it) that this is Equestria. The world is uninspired and sterile with the constant references to contemporary culture like the Internet with online influencers and such, which severely takes away from the world which is meant to be based on magic and mysticism. If I wanted a story about online influencers: I have to put up with that in real life already.
My honest thought is that they could’ve just went with how the magic of friendship school was going and how the different species were cooperating with each other and many different challenges for them to face along the way, Twilight and her friends being the leaders of equestria and once they step down the students of the different species would become the leaders of the equestria and their own kind, ruling all together. That’s what I would’ve loved to see instead of what we got and if we got this regardless, they atleast could’ve made it look how it used to, the old art. The technology as well is one of the biggest problems, kids shouldn’t be exposed to technology so soon, and g5 ruined it, adding cellphones computers and more. The old Mlp show was amazing and the new generation just doesn’t go along with all the 9 seasons of Mlp, the movies and even the fandoms, none of it connects together, those are my problems and what I wish we would’ve gotten

I watched a few episodes because of my little sister (3 yrs) and she of course loved it but I noticed everything wrong with it. I watch shows with complex plots and development. This lacked everything that made it interesting. A whole episode was about one of them being sick so she couldn’t post on her social media. It just DOESNT MADE SENSE. I miss the old mlp.
I havent even watched the G5 2d show, not an episode. I watched the movie and watched the first couple episodes of the 3d G5 show, didnt like it. I've gave it multiple chances and then just rewatched G4. Most things I see of G5 is always either comparing to G4 or just trashing it.
About the Windigos not being around, If Twilight new there was a chance of disharmony, I think she would have put some sort of protection against them in Equestria! She had the for sight enough to send the dragons away so she had to have thought about more things !! Orr discord sent them away ! If you read the comics you see that he's still lurking around and worrying about the safety of pony kind and he's all power chaos Lord so I don't think he'd let the Windigos come back
Honestly, G4's worldbuilding was SO RICH, that they could've made a decent successor if they really had put in the work. And I mean, the princess of friendship eventually losing all her friends to old age? That is a WONDERFUL start for G5, similar to the beginning of G4 where we had nightmare moon and the grieving princess Celestia, but in a much larger scale. But i find that in the new generation of kids media there's this weird fear of putting anything slightly serious; real villains, darker themes, anything, and it honestly makes me feel so sad for gen alpha (the current objective public of these series), it feels like producers are putting the absolute MINIMUM for their series because "it's just for kids"
I miss it when mlp had a fairy tale vibe, glitters, when houses and buildings used to look like a colorfull candyland town, now its just all ponies living in a boring modernized town with technology like wtf 😭
I've just been reading fanfiction instead of watching the actual show. There is a really good G5 rewrite on AO3 by ilovelegendsalot called G5 reimagined, I really like that one, it fixed everything wrong with G5 and has an actually plot and character arcs. Crazy that the fans could do a vastly superior job than the real show writers.
I kind of made a prediction, right before their first movie introducing Gen 5 that it was gonna bomb and not in the good way. I wanted to say that I was wrong, but I knew I wouldn't be because I knew that Hasbro doesn't give two wet farts about making a good story, just about flexing their L33T programming skills. They have made their intentions abundantly clear mid way through the 4th generation, at least to me. It's like they weren't even trying to make a stable story this time. They left plot holes bigger than Freddy's bloody glory hole in the bed on Elm Street. Their first mistake was connecting it to Gen 4. It should have either been a spinoff of Gen 4, or it's own unique series altogether. Unless they know what they're doing like Nintendo does with the Zelda franchise, they should leave time-related shenanigans alone. That's what I was taught growing up: if you do not know what you're doing, then leave it alone. I got dunked on by the simps because they never wanted to accept the ignoble truth that Gen 5 was doomed from the start to crash harder than the American stock market during an inflation.
I'm fine with the CGI 3D modeled ponies as I always thought it was cool, but seeing the 2D style just reminds me of all these modern day shows (more-so cartoon based) trying to appeal to kids more than a mix of both target and non target audience. (I think if a show can appeal to a non-targeted audience, especially a kid audience targeted one, that can be a pretty good show.) Which as a fan of older series or versions of these shows makes it feel awful to see these newer animated versions as they loose some of that charm that the other audiences like just to appeal to the younger audience. I can agree that if it was just a separate kind of situation it could be a lot better. Also while watching the Netflix series (CGI models) I've seen a few animation errors that make me laugh. Lore just goes out the window in Gen 5
I feel like they should add more detail on where all the characters go - What I mean is, where is all the lore? And the main six, are the they dead? I also feel like the voices are much more annoying. I LOVE my little pony G4, I don't see the point of them being in the same universe because G4 is just better.. 😓

Because it undid all the hardships that Princess Twilight Sparkle and friends did to unite all races of Equestria and they also stated that while Celestia’s rule lasted for thousands of years, Twilight’s only lasted for about 100, which makes it sound like she was a very incompetent ruler, which I find to be complete and utter character assassination.
I’m tired of G5 fans trying to shun criticism away by saying “You need to treat it as its own thing!” They literally have Twilight and Spike included! I loved A New Generation so much, but everything afterwards was just bad. In spite of the major questions the film had, I didn’t mind that much because I enjoyed it so much. But then not only did MYM triple down on the lack of respect towards G4 by creating dozens of plot holes and character assassinations, but it wasn’t even entertaining. I did enjoy some moments here and there, but overall it didn’t justify its existence. They should’ve made it not connected to G4. That way if it would be a self contained failure at worst, but nope. It just had to go and destroy a show that actually earned its legacy unlike this train-wreck.
Easy answer, is just not nearly as good as G4 in any regard ... is fine, I guess, but it has nothing that makes me think "Wow, that was pretty good". G4 has so many great episodes that speak to a wider audience, and had some pretty cool moments/events. The fact that they try to tie up G5 with G4 feels insulting, they put zero effort in trying to make it made sense.
Been following from the beginning, there has been a lot of speculation about how G4 became G5, why the Unity Crystals came about and how G5 has become a kind of isolated island in a much bigger world. 1) Opaline. We know she attacked Equestria twice. The Discord Arc in IDW covered some of the first attack that followed the Unity Crystals, the second attack was when Twilight and Opaline had their showdown that ended with the fire alicorn losing her magic. 2) Because Opaline managed to escape and still represent a threat with her elemental magic, Spike had to evacuate the entire world for dragons back to their homeland. We don't know what kind of plan Twilight and Spike had, because little is known about what Opaline did in her escape. 3) Twilight had likely reigned for a long time and was deeply loved by the ponies, she may have ruled the entire world through her doctrine of friendship. But the final battle with Opaline may have exacted a heavy price for Twilight. 4) The middle Equestria where G4 took place, disappeared - Ponyville was evacuated, Canterlot emptied in all haste (IDW), Everfree disappeared if the information about the ex-harmony tree in the movie is correct. 5) There is evidence that Twilight moved to Zephyr Heights which became her final residence, all the books in the royal library there have her cutie marks on all covers. All. 6) Twilight disappeared. The Unity Crystals came down from her cutie mark in the sky, the book in C3 suggests the crystals had come from the sky and become living ponies - meaning they were taken over by the guardians of the Unity Crystals. She became the Wishing Star. 7) The magic disappeared. The guardians of Unity Crystals forgot their obligations and broke with each other. If the unity crystals are separated, the magic will not disappear - but they must be put together again and again - because if it takes too long, poof. This was written in black and white on a book that Hasbro has partly withdrawn. 8) When the magic disappeared, Elderflower of Bridlewood was likely just a young pony at the time - and her tales and observations raised a host of red flags. Because she clearly showed signs of memory manipulation. It was already shown in the movie that the isolation between the three tribes was based on untruths and distorted memories. 9) Sunny united the three leaders, and in response she gained alicorn powers from the three crystals, which unite and unleash the magic. This suggests an intelligence, which is the biggest mystery in G5 if you ignore the case with G4. Who are the Unity Crystals? Perhaps Twilight's words "I am with you" in her message are literal - perhaps she is the intelligence in the Unity Crystals. 10) Opaline survived many centuries because she had latent alicorn powers, but the together tree in the dark castle which she very rarely left, may have been very important to her. 11) It was first believed that all magic was concentrated in the Unity Crystals. Today we know that it was only the active magic in the ponies that had been taken away. The inactive and internal magic in the ponies and the "dead" magic in inanimate objects remain intact and active. The Dragon stone and other magical items meant for the regulation of magic allow one to speculate whether all magic throughout the world has been brought under control during Twilight's reign. 12) We are not allowed to see more of Equestria, in the movie there was a flag on a license plate indicating that there were at least twelve "states" - and there were several intact names in the airship station in Zephyr Heights indicating that these still exists. We are not allowed. This needs an answer. 13) All monsters from G1 and G4 are completely gone in G5, no one knows why or how. 14) So far we have only seen the dragons. These are in G5 because the script from the movie makes these mandatory for the script writers - Sparky was the "key" Opaline needed to activate the dragon stone and steal magic from the dragons. Everyone else absent, it's as if everyone had been isolated from each other after Twilight disappeared.
For the Windigos I've heard this before. Since there wasn't a lot of active fighting between the three tribes since separating, the Windigos likely didn't have the ability/power to show up. Or maybe, because magic was missing in all of Equestria, they weren't able to appear there either. It is a little strange though but one of the easier things to brush past against compared to other things. As for if the hate is reasonable or not, I think it is. Maybe not as strong but I understand it. It's supposed to be a direct sequel and yet the fact that very few things stay cannon from G4 are infuriating. Like the writers didn't actually like or respect G4 and wanted to do it's own thing while referencing things from G4 here and there. To hell if they are accurate or explaining things. Like why Spike is the leader of the Dragons when that was Ember. Or what the frick happened to his voice. Sure maybe they couldn't get his original one but why so deep? Then there are things like keeping things constant. Like was the main villain always a fire alicorn or did she have to steal the dragon stone to get that magic? Why do dragons have cutie marks? And their explanation on how cutie marks still work despite no magic is kind of stupid too. It's just not good story telling.
An overreaction?! Nah, one of the first episodes was nothing but the crew gaslighted one of their friends into believing that they didn't see anything.
Time to write a novel ❤ First thing I want to clarify my position. I WANT SO BAD to love G5. I'm a 3D animation graduate student so I have a certain insight on the industry, and to be truthfull I loved the 3D in the first moovie. But I just can't appriciate it, even if I really love some of the stuff. Let's start with the concept. I love the idea of a sort of post apocalyptic G4 and I don't think the problem is that it's linked to G4. The problem is that they do nothing with it. There was a promise of a mystery to resolve, to discover what happened to G4 to crumble but it never was utulised in MYM or TYT. The most we had was in the comics. Wich is stupid. Plus, they created incoherence with G4, like in the designs with the cutie marks, the dragons, or by being so simple with how G4 crumbled, with Opaline, wich make no sense because it was by the time the mane 6 lived, and opaline was just... Not a realistic match against the mane 6, spike, and the other alicorns. The other problem is that this univers doesn't just take place in the G4 but also in the G1 vers, with the rainbow necklace for exemple, used as a deus ex machina to defeat Opaline. Which brings me to my second point : the format 1 moovie, then you have to watch youtube shorts of five minutes to understand KEY PLOT POINT (like the flying van or even the new lighthouse or the hair salon) then go back to netflix for make your mark, then back to youtube, then to the comics because all the mystery of G4 plot is in there. Like WHAT ?! I want to follow a story, not do detective work to know how to follow the story ! In my folder of downloaded episodes I had to combine mym and tyt episodes to maje sens of the plot. It's unsufferable that a "bonus" Is necessery to enjoy the plot Next point, the designs. Okay, for me the 3D was a good adaptation. Not perfect but good. Though I have big probleme with some designs choices and can explain why they don't work. First : sunny and Hitch are too close in color. They looks like siblings. It doesn't help they are earth pony both. Pip's color are dull, too close to purple which is Izzy's colors. Too much green eyes. Seriously Pip's needed an other eye color. They oddly feel too similar to each others. The pink on misty is horrible in a color theory standpoint due to the fact they are too close in value. If you switch Misty in greyscale you almost don't see the difference which is hard for the eye. Though good job on making Misty plump with freckle and gorgeous hair. She is incredible. Sunny's new hair are just so boring. The rainbow hair strike is really... Er... Not inspired? Her braid was way more iconic, and I won't talk about how this hairstyle is the only one they use in TYT even when she was a baby 😂 The cutie mark on one side. I know in previous gen this was the norm and it's G4 who includid it on both side, but it was great for visual identification, and also to show how important a cutie mark is. The fact it's in the same vers but they have it on one side only now is really weird for me. And I know why they really did it. It's easier for toy making. G4 toys never had the cutie mark on both side. So if in the show they had it only on one, it's a merch dream. Ugh. They did the same with the crystals. See the plasticy glittery texture? Merch oriented. They can sell the exact replica! The textures in the 3D show, especially MYM are really bad. They are plastics, the whole show looks like a doll house you can buy. And to be fair, I adore the G5 toys over the G4 ones. But in a show I find it really cheap and money oriented. This aspect of everything feels like it exist to sell toys is the factor that ruins G5 the most for me. Each decision seems motivated with money in mind so it doesn't feel like a genuine show, because at the end, the ones who validate what will be aired, make their decisions based on the money they'll be making. Speaking of that. The style of animation. As much as I love 3D, starting Make Your Mark it was AWFULL. The models are still good, but the lightning, texturing, and special effect, it look so cheap it hurt. Oh gosh the vines in the first MYM episode 😭 I was like : am I watching an old barbie moovie? Then. There is TYT. i HATE the style of TYT. Not because it's ugly (though frankly poor Hitch) but because it's the trendy animation style of these last couple of years. We've seen it in gravity falls, the howl house, over the garden wall... It does not have a personnality on it's own. Wich is a shame, really!! It's just cheap puppet animation devoided of creativity. And it's supposed to be the mane G5 media now. It's sad. They didn't even bother to do something original. And by they I point the finger at hasbro, not the creative team. The characters. I have an issue with three of them. Hitch, Pip, and Sunny. Yes Zipp and Izzy are not perfect but they are enough of their own character, even with the comparaison to RD and Pinkie Pie. i find them different enough, and driven. Misty is the best part of G5 so I won't talk about her, only maybe to point how her cutie mark finished by being the same she drew on, which I find really easy scenaristicly speaking. Hitch. Hitch changed personnality beetween the first movie and MYM / TYT, for the worst. He became a coward and comic relief most of the time, clashing with his high sens of loyalty honor and dutie who worked so well in next gen. What a shame. Pip. Oh pip. I had so much hope for her. Because yeah she is a tiktoker influencer which is... not appealing. But she had a place in a world where kids idolized influencers, and develops eating disorder svrolling on instagram. She could have touched so many subject about how to navigate social media in safety, how to still be connected to the real world, how social media doesn't reflect reality... She was important in what she could tell. But since G5 never wants to touch sensitive subjects except with Misty and maybe Posey, just look how fast racisme dissapeared, yeah, Pip is nothing more than... What we feared she'll be. It's so sad. This character deserved better. Sunny. The. Big. Problem. Sunny is supposed to endorse a leader position as Twilight before her. But Twilight was flawed. Insecure, passionated, smart with books but dumb in social situations. She learned and grew so much, overcoming her anxiety abd embracing her quirks and personnality. Sunny at the end of Next Gen was... Accomplished. There was nothing more for her to.. Be. I hoped this would not be an issue as I thought MYM would be centered around bringing harmony in equestria, resolving intolerences issues. In that regard the cast was perfect for that! Sunny pushing to act, pip with her influencer carreer could touch people, Hitch show how everyone could be nice and help each other, Zipp by being logical, helping people figuring out scientificly there new magic, and trying to understand what lead to each situation, and Izzy by being bubbly, friendly and open, making people feel at ease. Then Misty who better than anyone, understand empathy, fear, and loneliness. But they did nothing of that. Flight and magic ? Resolved in a five minute episode FOR THE ENTIRE SPICIES when in G4 they spent YEARS mastering even the simplest of magic, or flight. So what was left for Sunny? Her... Smoothie shop. I I can't. I never thought the smoothie shop was important. It seems in the moovie something she did as a... "i have not found my place and my purpose yet". But... No. No the smoothie shop is... Essential. Ah, let's talk about jobs and Pip a little more. Wtf with pip having all the jobs of the world? She's a princess, a pop star, an influencer, and she... Opened a hair salon. Oh gosh it makes no sense. But it sells toys! Yeah. The salon beings nothing to the table. It even feels restrictive. They can't be on the moove. They are stuck with their jobs. And compared to G4, when they begin with activities but each find their purpose, opening boutiques for rarity, taking over the farm for AJ, being a wonderbolt for Rainbow, becoming ruler of equestria, opening a school of friendship for Twi and even the animal care center for Fluttershy, there is a sense of accomplishment. With G5 they... have it all already. Anyway, there is so much more to say about how the plot is poorly written, how Opaline does nit feel like a menace at all, how she was supposed to be fleshed out in two entire seasons but was not, and how she was inconsistent with her powers, goal, and defeat, the trees that came out of nowhere, Zipp who remember something we never ever saw. And the new villain who is... Like... Just toy bait.. I just can't enjoy. I'm so sad. Plus, I'm french, wich means i'v got season 2 AI voice acting of TYT. What. A. Disgrace. Thank god I speak enough english.
I want to add that G4 had plot holes. But G4 rarely had a real long story stretching on an entire season, even less two, three if we count TYT season 1. Plot holes are meant to happened in theses conditions. But it's not how G5 was written. G5 was supposed to be a well thought out and fleshed out story. From the G4 not standing the ages, mystery around Twilight, long battle against opaline, reabilitating magic, learning how to live with it all over again, reconstruct the world, entangle racisme... It promised us all of that, but... It just never told that story. Things feeled rushed. Filler episodes are unsuffurable to watch because I wanted to see so much more, not just "it's hard to own a smoothie shop and remember everyone's favorit smoothie" Or "baby dragon running around for 40 minutes" And just why 5 minutes episodes have the construction an entire building, and a 40 minutes episode they are just looking for sparky?! Why the way the mane five got their cutie mark is so rushed and uninspired, in a 40 minutes episode when in a 20 minutes in G4 it felt fleshed out even if not perfect ? G5's plot holes are hard to accept. Because they had the time. Because they promised us a story thought out from begining to end. And they did not deliver. For me, G5 is objectivly a bad piece of media. It's an enjoyable mess, for some, and I wish I was one of them. i love the barbies animated movies! It's not like I" thrive for only the best" I think there are great things to enjoy in G5. misty, some shenanigans, the univers is still sparkly, bright and comforting. But even if it was it's own thing, not attached to G4, I think it would have been juste to middle of the road to really stand out. It's not a timeless classic, it can't hold it's own weight. One day we may remember it foundly as for G3 or G2, but with the actual quality delivered, even with a cute univers, and enjoyable characters, it... Just can't thrive... G5 deserved way better. G5 deserved to have been done by ab other producer than Hasbro. This is what make it too hard to watch it for me. I only see what could have been, and cannt enjoy what is there. I hope for G5 to pass away and open the way for something new or to correct and find it's own identity as I know it could. But I fear Hasbro won't give the generation this chance 😢
I *don't* hate G5 at all (its pretty nice) but i wish it made a bit more sense cause if Twilight isnt in her Full Alicorn Look (Like Princess Celestia's Look) then shouldnt it mean that everyone else is *still* alive? If magic was gone because of the Unity Crystals, How Come The Trio Villians arent in the show? The villian trio: Chrysalis, Cozy Glow, Tirek (I just really want them in as returning villians cause they're my favorite villians lol) I get that they're trying to make G5 a bit more like G4 but why give Hitch *Fluttershy's* talent? (Talking to animals) cause Fluttershy's talent was to communicate with animals (it was her cutie mark) it kinda just shows that her talent was useless in the show if Hitch has the same talent. Especially since its *Not* his talent. His cutie mark is to help others. (Correct me if im wrong about his cutie mark i havent finished the series yet) And NOT to communicate with animals (I havent finished the series yet so again, correct me of im wrong) I hope Sunny gets her FULL alicorn wings and horn cause im getting bored of the disappearing and reappearing lol I kinda wish they gave Pipp a better character development (such as her NOT being on her phone 24/7 ) Especially since shes my favorite😞 (my favorites are also Zipp and Hitch) I believe thats all i wanted to say, again, i DO NOT HATE the show AT ALL!!

I don't like g5 because I feel like twilight sealing the magic away kinda ruins everything g4 worked up to. Twilight worked so hard to bring all creatures with all different kinds of magic together instead of having them fight to the point of near war. The entire point of the show was to show that even though people argue, that they can work to make amends. I don't feel like a random unicorn pushing fluttershy would be drastic enough to cause outrage between different species and in turn, result in a crystal being made to give & take away magic for whatever reason.
Which also begs the question, besides dragons, where are all the other creatures we came to know & love? The world building makes no sense to me as well, they obviously don't live where g4 equestria was since we see in the comics the ruins of canterlot & fluttershy's home. What happened to the crystal empire, the school of friendship, etc.
Overall, g5's plot feels incredibly rushed and confusing. A lot of people argue that we need to "give g5 a chance" but to be honest, we did. we really tried to see it through, but we were let down with countless plotholes, inconsistencies, etc.
MLP g5 was supposed to tailor to a new generation of kids and people who grew up with g4, because the stories were connected, and quite honestly thats a great way to make more money. But it didn't do a very good job in execution imo.

The inly reason G4 is so popular is because of it attracting not only kids, but also adults and teens, by making the focus more on kids and technology, takes away what attracts the older generation of ours, the characters have no appeal, we don't have any attracting villains, making it boring :/

+ g4 tackled HEAVY subjects, like tribes, famine, death, anxiety and even depression, they also were all about friendship with the plot all about that, and valuable lessons, making the whole show more lively. G5 has no plot, no memorable episodes, a whole seperate universe than g4, no heavy subjects, etc...
For example: in g4 there's the episode with princess Luna, having that black mist that she created to always remember what she did as nightmare moon, even tho they're entirely separate people now. Luna is dealing with regret, low self-esteem, depression, etc...
That episode really hit me since i was going through a similar experience and it allowed me to relate.

No but I just HATE when fantasy shows use modern social media stuff. Like I think tech and magic together can be interesting sometimes, like with Winx Club where it´s kind of futuristic, but I SWEAR TO GOD if I see ANOTHER magic fantasy version of TikTok...
I mean, it can work. I remember that The Owl House had magical tech that worked pretty similar to actual tech. The setting is pretty modern too, so there's that.
But like, it's not super relevant or overused. The focus is on the magic and plot, the magic tech is more of a minor detail.
I also remember Winx, that had tech there that was used alongside the magic.
Having some sort of magic tech can be cool if A- it doesn't interfere with the plot, or B- it actively aids the plot, as a tool the characters can use along with the magic (either using together or having characters that specialise in using one over the other), rather than being a sideplot thing.
Technology is okay since they can add fantastical elements to it, but what is the deal with making social-media obsessed characters?
Truly, I don't care about characters who act like influencers, it takes me out of it.

As a school age teacher, I don't know any students who actually watch MLP G5. I saw more merchandise and pop culture even towards the end of G4. I have a feeling that making G5 was a mistake... they should have either rejuvenated G4 by making a spin off series with the same characters rather than scrapping it all to make an entirely new generation of ponies.
Like others have said, they should have made G4 and G5 have separate universes at the very least. However, I don't think that would be enough to make the show more appealing. The lore is too linear, the characters have shallow personalities, and the villains are bland.

I also love Miraculous Ladybug, which is popular amongst my students and more recently, Descendants 4. I'll put a song on from the show after they finish their work and we'll sing together. I also taught a few classes in schools on how to create Minecraft mods, so talking about Minecraft and the updates is also fun. :)

There was an initial idea for G5 to be it's own thing, with several elements of it making its' way lazily into this new generation: chief among them was the Tribes and Races being separate from one-another in different _worlds_ and not different cities: with a world meant for the Unicorns, one for Earth Ponies, and one for Dragons, and that these worlds all existed together as different branches of a World Tree. A concept that's mostly realized with the Crystal Ponies and Breezies requiring the dumb Together Trees in order for the five to access these other realms in the show.
One reason I can’t really see g5 as a sequel to g4 is because of the stealing/sealing of the magic by twilight sparkle….it was shown in g4 that such a deed was considered one of the highest crimes via how tirek and cozy glow were treated….so why would twilight remove the magic that’s literally essential to life and much of equestria…..it makes no sense……for example….what happens to cloudsdale if there is no magic to keep the flying city together, same with no magic to let the crystal heart keep the crystal empire safe……it’s like they are ignoring the possible mass murder of so many but taking away something that is fundamentally needed by two groups in their equine society…..and let’s not forget the sea ponies, who are hippogryphs on land….would removing all magic lock them into one form they happened tobe in at the time, since the change was magical in nature, or would it turn them all into hippogryphs at the bottom of the see thus murdering a third tribe possibly…..thus I can’t see g5 as a sequel to g4 because twilight wouldn’t mass murder or risk doing such just to solve a “friendship problem” even on a massive scale

despite having some flaws ,g4 had creativity and passion put into it ,interesting concepts and lore ,heartfelt lessons ,the world locations looked fun ,that's why it's still memorable and enjoyable
Also the artstyle...G4 was very stylized and had emotion with exaggeration occasionally to help convery stronger emotion. The new cartoon G5 just looks like those "American adult cartoons" their eyes dont have much emotion or too much emotion, its either "kinda emotion" or "so exaggerated it's a joke" emotions instead of like when in G4 where they were able to cry, be angry, and show emotions that aren't just positive and they were taken seriously, G5 also has a very basic art style in general with not much thought into the anatomy, whereas G4 made them at least move kinda like horses.
I heard that the Windigos never appeared in the movie because they are magical spirits, but the world didn't have magic, so they couldn't have manifested

@@coleslostcake Correct, we now know that only the active part of the ponies' magic was "turned off", only magnetic hooves, the magical cutie marks that allow an opening to elemental magic (it seems to be rare) and nothing else was "turned off" ", the internal magic remains intact. Only the ponies had lost their magic. But; these chimeric critters had also lost their magic, and Old Discord in the IDW comics ages because he also lost his magic - implying that anyone "touched" by the ponies' magic can lose their magic when the Unirt Crystals are "turned off".
The Unirt Crystals have no effect on "dead" magic in non-living objects, enabling an automation of the magical activities in the magically active world. As with the weather control through the automatic weather machines. The dragons have their own magic, although, like the ponies, they also had to share their access to active magic with the Dragon stone, which Opaline was able to drain without the dragons discovering this in time. All "foci" that make use of active magic have been concentrated in the Unity Crystals and the Dragon stone - all magic had to pass through these.
The windigos interestingly may be based on pony magic, because their aggression was mostly directed at the ponies from which they encouraged and then reaped negatively charged emotion-based magic and converted this into extreme coldness. That means they must be able to use pony magic. It may have made them very vulnerable in the face of positively charged magic through collective cohesion such as unity, friendship and harmony. But the old fashioned rainbow magic that Twilight commanded from the internal magic of the element bearers is known to be deadly in contrast to harmony magic.
So Twilight exterminated the windigos. But; as seen in MYM Ch. 1 and other episodes in IDW and TYT it was shown that uncontrolled emotion-based magic could cause very dangerous consequences. It was this that led to the creation of the Unity Crystals - Twilight's masterpiece and shame.
my theory is that since friendship wards them off, twilight, as the princess of friendship, was able to single-hoofedly keep them at bay.
altho the Scootertrix joke where Twilight hunts them all like it's a sport is funny.
I thought that they were defeated for good in the end of Friendship is Magic. That or Twilight found a way to keep them away since she created the Unity Crystals knowing that the ponies might not get along in the future and her and her friends wouldn’t always be there to chase away the Windigos. It could also be explained away by the forcefield Twilight put around Equestria kept the creatures away.
What about before the magic went out they were still separated because if the main characters were born into the separated world how come (the Pegasus) said the magic just “disappeared” she had to be alive then and that means there would’ve been windigos before that but nobody seemed to mention it in the movie
G5 shouldve been seperate from G4, it ruins the continuity. plus, i feel like G5 couldve gone for a similar approach in 2D style similar to the 2017 MLP movie.
The way I see it, G5 is really just a weird week branch of G4. If Hasbro had written a new pony story that took place in a whole new world, then it would actually be G5.
My main problem with g5 is that the writing just isn’t very good. It kinda seems like the writers just had the attitude of this “is for kids, so doesn’t need to be good.” The sad part is that the movie was actually pretty good. Then after that they kind of just stopped caring. It had so much potential to be good but it wasn’t.

As a former still sorta Brony, I won’t hate on the animators, writers, or fans of this series. I will however speak my own mind and opinions. I feel the show doesn’t work as a sequel, let alone fits into the MLP FIM universe. It not only disregards and retcons all the hard work Princess Twilight and the other kingdoms made as a whole to unite, but changes what made the show special to begin with. The whole point of FIM was to show how the kingdoms could get along and how friendship goes beyond boundaries. The show taught us many lessons from how to be honest, to how to stand up for ourselves, to how to change bad habits, and even how to respect others for their differences regardless of race. I would say more, but you have to watch the show to figure it out. FIM ended on a good note with Twilight uniting the kingdoms, taking over all of Equestria as its true ruler. She had friends, a family, and all Equestria supporting her. While fanfics and comics try to continue where here story, they were certainly better than what G5 tried to give us. I understand that children grow up and new generations need something to call their own, but what was the issue with just renewing MLP G4 or at the very least reintroducing it to kids of today? The show may not have always been perfect, but it had heart and soul. It touched all of us and made us connected as a whole.
For me it's the new design. It looks repulsive and low effort.

A large majority of people state that G5 is merely atrocious compared to G4, and is, at worst, avarege on its own. But if something contradicts itself, is composed of the most generic and unoriginal tropes imaginable, is ennuing and nonsensical, and to top it off, is low-quality in its animation, than that, my darling, is a bad show, and this is the ending. It is even worse in this case, for it being a sequel to something very expanded, and fails to accomplish its goal. To be completely honest, I think that something like combining G4 and G5 characters could still be done that would take place after The Last Problem. Which sounds rather perplexing.
Tbh what they should have done because gen 4 was still popular was take the Young 6 and make a new era. The main 6 have their duties and aren’t in the picture anymore but the young 6 take the story and explore more of beyond Equestria. They literally put in so many story opportunities the season before they ended the show 🤦🏻♀️
(TLDR they could have made a “reboot” where instead of the main 6 it’s about the young 6 and made new versions of the old gen that everyone loved)

Cause there gotta be ones other then the Elements that have been lost to history. Would have expanded the world building of the universe too.
It’s pretty obvious that the creators wanted to make an original story while milking the G4 nostalgia to gain views and they ended up missing the mark by a long LONG shot.
Honestly I think G5 would have had a better chance of success if the creators stuck with the original plan to make a reboot of G4, that way they could have made their own original story while pulling in older fans through nostalgia.
I mean that original concept had Twilight as an earth pony with the same magic based cutie mark, we could have had an in depth look into earth pony magic that wasn’t just strength or suddenly being able to grow plants.

I think. They didn't even get creative enough with the phones. It's not much but, like, they got magic and yet they use hand (or hoof) held smartphone bricks. And it just doesn't work. In G4 I remember they definately took into account that these were ponies and thus utensils and such were designed and used as if they were being used by ponies. They held pens in their mouths. They put books down on tables. They had enchantments and stuff. I imagine it would be relatively easy to just standard issue an enchantment into those things so it looks less awkward. It's a little thing but it really does just. Irritate me. It shows a lack of care in the world building.

The reason I hate G5 is because it not only wants to cash in on G4's preestablished world and references to tease older fans, but also because it's terribly written with 0 focus and direction. G4 had direction and focus and knew where it wanted to go with the plot both in each individual episode and in the overarching story. Twilight becomes Celestia's replacement as the princess of friendship and this is how she gets there. However G5 lacks this. I have no idea what they want Sunny to achieve in her future, or even what she represents as a character nor can I make any context based guesses as to how the series will end and where our characters individual stories will end with it. From season 1 of G4 I could basically see every character's future right in front of me and wanted to root for them and watch their journey in sweet anticipation. G5 makes me roll my eyes as Pip once again loses it over a dumb tik tok challenge or there's a single frizz in her hair. Basically G4 cared a lot more and invested time into its development while G5 is just trying to cash grab its audience.
Velma gets a lot of hate for being a Harley Quinn Knockoff. Make Your Mark gets its hate for the overwhelming lack of effort. Take the badly written plotline for example from hijacking a factory from the Cloverleafs to letting Opaline get away to fight another day to dragons creating a weakness by putting their power into one stone. I think Tell Your Tale is forgivable for scrapping bad plot and bland polygonal shapes with overexposed shading in favour of simple bold outlined characters that you seen in a lot of modern cartoons today, plus short stories with original songs and mysterious lore. "The Rise and Fall" was a neat little cartoon that told a brilliant story in only five minutes and had everypony doing and acting different, whereas the CGI remake "Roots of All Evil" was terrible with ponies stupidly running around in circles like milling and clashing theories of "Don't go near tree" and "Do go near the tree". 44 minutes of CGI animations shamefully wasted. I always thought of Sparky Sparkeroni as a clone of Grogu from "The Mandalorian" and not a G5 version of Spike, who's appearance in Make Your Mark was also wasted and sporting a Lownote Jones voice. Not at all the G4 Spike that we all know and love. Thankfully Make Your Mark has been cancelled so hopefully Tell Your Tale will take this generation in a better direction. In my opinion they should let go of the G4 references if they cannot implement them properly.
G5’s writing quality is no better or worse than G4 which wasn’t that high of a bar to begin with. The G4 references are ultimately irrelevant to the main plot and only really serve as Easter eggs. You could remove 99% of them and nothing changes. Chapter 3 and onwards was pretty cool. Spike could have been utilized better; but nothing was wrong with him as a character. This seems more like some of you refusing to let go of G4 and lashing out at G5 over.
Yeah, I mostly agree with the things you say here. And especially the last thing you said, they could've been further away from G4 stuff since including Spike and doing all that they did with those things kind of turned out as something that most people who care about it, hate it.
I like the earlier Make Your Mark episodes and I like the lore and story in general most of the time, but later on in MYM it did end up being at a lower quality in writing, was pretty disappointing.
Sparky was a very interesting idea, since I was wondering what they'd do with the traditional Spike in a world that already had/has one, but I think they ended up doing the dragon role pretty good for what the situation is. It might have been too confusing to have another character named Spike in the same universe, I guess, and Sparky himself might not be super interesting but he could theoretically play a part in more interesting magical stuff and it's wholesome to see him with Hitch. Oh gosh and I had forgotten about Spike's super deep voice 💀
But at least the dragons were kind of accurate to the canon, since they were all adult dragons and had the form for it (on all fours, like when Spike first went to the dragon lands and pointed out the adult dragons vs teen dragon bipeds.)
Hate the show I do not by a long run, but the end of MYM was a bit of a mess and Season 2 of TYT has been continuing pretty good (they better do more with Allura soon, but that'll probably happen mainly in the specials... And I don't know what happened to visiting Skyros, which they were going to do but then they... Just didn't?)

Anyway, maybe it "looke" like a knockoff, but when you're actually watching it... All it frickin' is, is a simpler show than G4. Which nobody would make a big deal about, if it wasn't for the fact that they mostly watched G4 in the first place because it's a rare kind of show that's for kids and also super awesome and interesting anyway.

MLP fim had simple and cheap flash animation, but it didn't look eye-catching simply because the drawing style was cool - sometimes cute, sometimes funny. I can't count the times when I paused the episodes just to take a screenshot of another hilarious frame with a meme-looking face, and the new generation... It just doesn't have it. The ponies don't look cute, they look like human heads mounted on a walking chair in TYT. The 3D cartoon with better character designs, but due to the low budget, everything looks extremely plastic and ridiculous.

G5 is the worst sequel because the villains and G4 characters are forced into the story and messy also all the characters all really annoying ESPECIALLY SPIKEY I mean all he dose is burb I swear I wish he was like spike. Also there are no character arcs really. Another thing that doesn’t make sense is that Twilight Sparkle and her friends couldn’t defeat opline although they had defeated many over creatures but Sunny and her friends(who are not really that experienced deafted her twice! My number 1 issue with G5 and the reason I haven't even given the show a chance is its entire premise - the ponies live in fear and distrust of each other, meaning Twilight and her friends FAILED; but above all else, it breaks lore by not having the Windigos bring forth the eternal winter this separation should have brought!
So, it commits 2 cardinal sins of bad sequels - it undermines the prequel by making the protagonist's journey be a failure, AND it breaks lore right off the bat!
I think the biggest hinderance of G5 of My Little Pony is the attempts to tie it into the previous generation. I think that if G5 wasn't attached to the previous generation, and it was just its own thing, then it would just be middling. But with so many of the rules and conventions of G4 straight up missing from G5, the series is significantly dragged down.

honestly, my best friend LOVES the show, I was hesitant to watch it cuz I grew up with gen4 and the changes from gen5 was a bit too much at first. And honestly, the Netflix movie wasn't bad, I enjoyed it a lot but the rest ?? I watched everything so far and it feels that every potential it has is getting wasted and it's just so sad to see...I hope it will change because it can be so much more interesting !

I'm sticking to the ongoing theory that the writers had initially wanted to make a coherent sequel to FIM. However, thanks to Discovery Family having a choke hold on the broadcast rights to G4, the writers were largely forbidden to use anything from it. Because of that, G5'S team had to hastily rewrite the whole show. Giving us the mixed bag that g5 now is.

Twilight did NOT SPEND LIKE TWO SEASONS TO TRANSFORM INTO AN ALICORN, ONLY FOR THE NEW GENERATION TO GET HER NEW PRINCESS IN LIKE AN HOUR OR SO. Twilight and her friends literally fought against so many creatures, had so much character growth, and then she became a princess, but this new generation sticks some rocks together and boom, princess?
A few things that bug me:
1. Sunny IMMEDIATELY became an alicorn when twilight earned it over three seasons.
2. Old mlp lore, out the fucking window.
3. The attempt at making g5 2d makes it look like something on UA-cam kids and not at all like g4.
4. It's awful.

My Little Pony has been a huge part of my childhood. As a child, I was drawn to the villains like Nightmare Moon and Chrysalis, admiring their style and presence. Instead of being scared of the villians, I found their stories entertaining, as they highlighted why Twilight Sparkle needed friends and the importance of not being isolated from the world.
The show taught valuable lessons about friendship, including that conflicts can happen but can be resolved through open communication. It showcased how even royal sisters like Celestia and Luna faced challenges but forgave each other after a thousand years being seperated. Each pony represented a different quality: Applejack was honest, Fluttershy was kind, Pinkie Pie brought laughter, Rarity showed generosity, and Rainbow Dash embodied loyalty, culminating in the magic of friendship that Twilight Sparkle represented. Overall, MLP emphasized how friendship can help solve problems and bring adventure in Equestria and that you don't have to do everything alone.
When I saw the new characters, I was honestly a bit shocked. I expected the characters to have much better quality and a more stylish look, especially given the technology we have now-similar to what we saw in "My Little Pony: The Movie" (2017). It frustrates me that Generation 4 looks so much better than Generation 5; it really upsets me. It feels like the creators of MLP decided to cut corners and just release something for easy money and attention.
I have a large family with many little kids, and not a single one of them has watched Generation 5 or bought the toys. It seems like all of Twilight's and her friends’ efforts in Generation 4 were completely in vain. Additionally, I really dislike Pipp's cringe-worthy addiction to mobile phone social media and streaming; it’s not a good example to show children, as it portrays this as the norm for the new generation.
The new animation quality keeps getting worse and feels cheap, with little effort to include or even mention the various creatures and races seen in previous generations. It makes me feel like the new creators don’t even know about any of the MLP shows that came before. I also don’t like how the pony races have reverted to hating each other, as if nothing ever happened. It doesn’t make sense to me, considering that Twilight and her friends worked hard to bring them back together and got along.
Let me know what you guys think. I'd love to hear your opinions and sorry if I got any information wrong. (I didn't really watch the whole new G5 of MLP since it was just so disappointing.)

I would have disliked the series far less and have accepted it to be its own thing if it wasn’t canon to the Former generation, it’s the same mistake hasbro has made before with transformers: robots in disguise, making it canon to their other more successful series, transformers prime.

Plot and consistency aside, I think the issue here is that MLP G5 is another show that fell victim of this new trend of "stupid shows for kids, because kids are stupid and they cannot understand such deep concepts". I'm not saying that G4 was oh so dark and traumatizing, but they managed to make a show that's fun primarily for children or minors, but also adults may find something relatable on it too. It's not impossible, but some companies seem too afraid to try this as years go on, you can notice in other recent movies, series or even right here on UA-cam Kids. Corporates think children are stupid.

Just my pet peeve but i never liked 3d animations, especially tv serise animations. Im ok with movies using 3d but when it comes to tv serise they look so cheap compared to 2d animations (and they are most of the time)

The reason why I didn't like G5,
is because it Involves technology which isn't "realistic", and makes magic seem unnatural to the MLP universe, the colors of the main cast do not match their personalities, the main character didn't quite deserved to be a alacorn(?), don't like their 2D art style, also don't like the 3D look on G5,

I think the thing that makes me the most irritated about G5 is its representation of Twilight. I suppose maybe she wasn't in her powered up, elder alicorn form yet when the hologram was recorded, but DAMN does her 3D design look bad. Also the show, its characters and its story are so dumbed down it hurts. I legitimately cannot watch it because it grates on my nerves so hard. Also you may need to be made aware of the sheer amount of toxic conflict that goes down between G4 fans and G5 fans nowadays. Pretty sure there's several videos covering the topic so I won't go indepth about it here

If it was a completely separate and new iteration of the franchise, it wouldn't have gotten so much hate. A lot of the concepts were more interesting than what we got, I'll admit. The company wanted to capitalize on G4's popularity and believed the end result would be the same for G5. They were obviously wrong.

The fact they pretty much shot themselves in the proverbial foot by not having a definitive idea behind the series. There were leaks/rumors about a different take on G5 which sounded much more intriguing that wasn't tied to G4, but then due to the popularity of G4 they decided to figuratively crowbar the two into continuity, even if lore-wise it'd make no sense whatsoever: Only tertiary references like Twilight Sparkle having been alive and undoing her legacy by outright destroying it, let alone none of the other creatures exist despite wanting to convince us (and fail at it) that this is Equestria. The world is uninspired and sterile with the constant references to contemporary culture like the Internet with online influencers and such, which severely takes away from the world which is meant to be based on magic and mysticism. If I wanted a story about online influencers: I have to put up with that in real life already.
My honest thought is that they could’ve just went with how the magic of friendship school was going and how the different species were cooperating with each other and many different challenges for them to face along the way, Twilight and her friends being the leaders of equestria and once they step down the students of the different species would become the leaders of the equestria and their own kind, ruling all together. That’s what I would’ve loved to see instead of what we got and if we got this regardless, they atleast could’ve made it look how it used to, the old art. The technology as well is one of the biggest problems, kids shouldn’t be exposed to technology so soon, and g5 ruined it, adding cellphones computers and more. The old Mlp show was amazing and the new generation just doesn’t go along with all the 9 seasons of Mlp, the movies and even the fandoms, none of it connects together, those are my problems and what I wish we would’ve gotten

I watched a few episodes because of my little sister (3 yrs) and she of course loved it but I noticed everything wrong with it. I watch shows with complex plots and development. This lacked everything that made it interesting. A whole episode was about one of them being sick so she couldn’t post on her social media. It just DOESNT MADE SENSE. I miss the old mlp.

It all came apart when Hasbro realized they lost all their IPs to Discovery, and could not reference anything from FiM.
About the Windigos not being around, If Twilight new there was a chance of disharmony, I think she would have put some sort of protection against them in Equestria! She had the for sight enough to send the dragons away so she had to have thought about more things !!

Honestly, G4's worldbuilding was SO RICH, that they could've made a decent successor if they really had put in the work.
And I mean, the princess of friendship eventually losing all her friends to old age? That is a WONDERFUL start for G5, similar to the beginning of G4 where we had nightmare moon and the grieving princess Celestia, but in a much larger scale. But i find that in the new generation of kids media there's this weird fear of putting anything slightly serious; real villains, darker themes, anything, and it honestly makes me feel so sad for gen alpha (the current objective public of these series), it feels like producers are putting the absolute MINIMUM for their series because "it's just for kids"

I've just been reading fanfiction instead of watching the actual show. There is a really good G5 rewrite on AO3 by ilovelegendsalot called G5 reimagined, I really like that one, it fixed everything wrong with G5 and has an actually plot and character arcs. Crazy that the fans could do a vastly superior job than the real show writers.
I kind of made a prediction, right before their first movie introducing Gen 5 that it was gonna bomb and not in the good way. I wanted to say that I was wrong, but I knew I wouldn't be because I knew that Hasbro doesn't give two wet farts about making a good story, just about flexing their L33T programming skills.
They have made their intentions abundantly clear mid way through the 4th generation, at least to me. It's like they weren't even trying to make a stable story this time. They left plot holes bigger than Freddy's bloody glory hole in the bed on Elm Street. Their first mistake was connecting it to Gen 4. It should have either been a spinoff of Gen 4, or it's own unique series altogether. Unless they know what they're doing like Nintendo does with the Zelda franchise, they should leave time-related shenanigans alone.
That's what I was taught growing up: if you do not know what you're doing, then leave it alone. I got dunked on by the simps because they never wanted to accept the ignoble truth that Gen 5 was doomed from the start to crash harder than the American stock market during an inflation.
I'm fine with the CGI 3D modeled ponies as I always thought it was cool, but seeing the 2D style just reminds me of all these modern day shows (more-so cartoon based) trying to appeal to kids more than a mix of both target and non target audience. (I think if a show can appeal to a non-targeted audience, especially a kid audience targeted one, that can be a pretty good show.) Which as a fan of older series or versions of these shows makes it feel awful to see these newer animated versions as they loose some of that charm that the other audiences like just to appeal to the younger audience. I can agree that if it was just a separate kind of situation it could be a lot better. Also while watching the Netflix series (CGI models) I've seen a few animation errors that make me laugh. Lore just goes out the window in Gen 5

Because it undid all the hardships that Princess Twilight Sparkle and friends did to unite all races of Equestria and they also stated that while Celestia’s rule lasted for thousands of years, Twilight’s only lasted for about 100, which makes it sound like she was a very incompetent ruler, which I find to be complete and utter character assassination.

I’m tired of G5 fans trying to shun criticism away by saying “You need to treat it as its own thing!” They literally have Twilight and Spike included! I loved A New Generation so much, but everything afterwards was just bad. In spite of the major questions the film had, I didn’t mind that much because I enjoyed it so much. But then not only did MYM triple down on the lack of respect towards G4 by creating dozens of plot holes and character assassinations, but it wasn’t even entertaining. I did enjoy some moments here and there, but overall it didn’t justify its existence. They should’ve made it not connected to G4. That way if it would be a self contained failure at worst, but nope. It just had to go and destroy a show that actually earned its legacy unlike this train-wreck.
Easy answer, is just not nearly as good as G4 in any regard ... is fine, I guess, but it has nothing that makes me think "Wow, that was pretty good". G4 has so many great episodes that speak to a wider audience, and had some pretty cool moments/events.
The fact that they try to tie up G5 with G4 feels insulting, they put zero effort in trying to make it made sense.
Been following from the beginning, there has been a lot of speculation about how G4 became G5, why the Unity Crystals came about and how G5 has become a kind of isolated island in a much bigger world.
1) Opaline. We know she attacked Equestria twice. The Discord Arc in IDW covered some of the first attack that followed the Unity Crystals, the second attack was when Twilight and Opaline had their showdown that ended with the fire alicorn losing her magic.
2) Because Opaline managed to escape and still represent a threat with her elemental magic, Spike had to evacuate the entire world for dragons back to their homeland. We don't know what kind of plan Twilight and Spike had, because little is known about what Opaline did in her escape.
3) Twilight had likely reigned for a long time and was deeply loved by the ponies, she may have ruled the entire world through her doctrine of friendship. But the final battle with Opaline may have exacted a heavy price for Twilight.
4) The middle Equestria where G4 took place, disappeared - Ponyville was evacuated, Canterlot emptied in all haste (IDW), Everfree disappeared if the information about the ex-harmony tree in the movie is correct.
5) There is evidence that Twilight moved to Zephyr Heights which became her final residence, all the books in the royal library there have her cutie marks on all covers. All.
6) Twilight disappeared. The Unity Crystals came down from her cutie mark in the sky, the book in C3 suggests the crystals had come from the sky and become living ponies - meaning they were taken over by the guardians of the Unity Crystals. She became the Wishing Star.
7) The magic disappeared. The guardians of Unity Crystals forgot their obligations and broke with each other. If the unity crystals are separated, the magic will not disappear - but they must be put together again and again - because if it takes too long, poof. This was written in black and white on a book that Hasbro has partly withdrawn.
8) When the magic disappeared, Elderflower of Bridlewood was likely just a young pony at the time - and her tales and observations raised a host of red flags. Because she clearly showed signs of memory manipulation. It was already shown in the movie that the isolation between the three tribes was based on untruths and distorted memories.
9) Sunny united the three leaders, and in response she gained alicorn powers from the three crystals, which unite and unleash the magic. This suggests an intelligence, which is the biggest mystery in G5 if you ignore the case with G4. Who are the Unity Crystals? Perhaps Twilight's words "I am with you" in her message are literal - perhaps she is the intelligence in the Unity Crystals.
10) Opaline survived many centuries because she had latent alicorn powers, but the together tree in the dark castle which she very rarely left, may have been very important to her.
11) It was first believed that all magic was concentrated in the Unity Crystals. Today we know that it was only the active magic in the ponies that had been taken away. The inactive and internal magic in the ponies and the "dead" magic in inanimate objects remain intact and active. The Dragon stone and other magical items meant for the regulation of magic allow one to speculate whether all magic throughout the world has been brought under control during Twilight's reign.
12) We are not allowed to see more of Equestria, in the movie there was a flag on a license plate indicating that there were at least twelve "states" - and there were several intact names in the airship station in Zephyr Heights indicating that these still exists. We are not allowed. This needs an answer.
13) All monsters from G1 and G4 are completely gone in G5, no one knows why or how.
14) So far we have only seen the dragons. These are in G5 because the script from the movie makes these mandatory for the script writers - Sparky was the "key" Opaline needed to activate the dragon stone and steal magic from the dragons. Everyone else absent, it's as if everyone had been isolated from each other after Twilight disappeared.
For the Windigos I've heard this before. Since there wasn't a lot of active fighting between the three tribes since separating, the Windigos likely didn't have the ability/power to show up. Or maybe, because magic was missing in all of Equestria, they weren't able to appear there either. It is a little strange though but one of the easier things to brush past against compared to other things.
As for if the hate is reasonable or not, I think it is. Maybe not as strong but I understand it. It's supposed to be a direct sequel and yet the fact that very few things stay cannon from G4 are infuriating. Like the writers didn't actually like or respect G4 and wanted to do it's own thing while referencing things from G4 here and there. To hell if they are accurate or explaining things. Like why Spike is the leader of the Dragons when that was Ember. Or what the frick happened to his voice. Sure maybe they couldn't get his original one but why so deep? Then there are things like keeping things constant. Like was the main villain always a fire alicorn or did she have to steal the dragon stone to get that magic? Why do dragons have cutie marks? And their explanation on how cutie marks still work despite no magic is kind of stupid too. It's just not good story telling.

First thing I want to clarify my position. I WANT SO BAD to love G5. I'm a 3D animation graduate student so I have a certain insight on the industry, and to be truthfull I loved the 3D in the first moovie.
But I just can't appriciate it, even if I really love some of the stuff.
Let's start with the concept. I love the idea of a sort of post apocalyptic G4 and I don't think the problem is that it's linked to G4. The problem is that they do nothing with it. There was a promise of a mystery to resolve, to discover what happened to G4 to crumble but it never was utulised in MYM or TYT. The most we had was in the comics. Wich is stupid. Plus, they created incoherence with G4, like in the designs with the cutie marks, the dragons, or by being so simple with how G4 crumbled, with Opaline, wich make no sense because it was by the time the mane 6 lived, and opaline was just... Not a realistic match against the mane 6, spike, and the other alicorns.
The other problem is that this univers doesn't just take place in the G4 but also in the G1 vers, with the rainbow necklace for exemple, used as a deus ex machina to defeat Opaline.
Which brings me to my second point : the format
1 moovie, then you have to watch youtube shorts of five minutes to understand KEY PLOT POINT (like the flying van or even the new lighthouse or the hair salon) then go back to netflix for make your mark, then back to youtube, then to the comics because all the mystery of G4 plot is in there. Like WHAT ?! I want to follow a story, not do detective work to know how to follow the story ! In my folder of downloaded episodes I had to combine mym and tyt episodes to maje sens of the plot. It's unsufferable that a "bonus" Is necessery to enjoy the plot
Next point, the designs. Okay, for me the 3D was a good adaptation. Not perfect but good. Though I have big probleme with some designs choices and can explain why they don't work. First : sunny and Hitch are too close in color. They looks like siblings. It doesn't help they are earth pony both. Pip's color are dull, too close to purple which is Izzy's colors.
Too much green eyes. Seriously Pip's needed an other eye color. They oddly feel too similar to each others.
The pink on misty is horrible in a color theory standpoint due to the fact they are too close in value. If you switch Misty in greyscale you almost don't see the difference which is hard for the eye. Though good job on making Misty plump with freckle and gorgeous hair. She is incredible.
Sunny's new hair are just so boring. The rainbow hair strike is really... Er... Not inspired? Her braid was way more iconic, and I won't talk about how this hairstyle is the only one they use in TYT even when she was a baby 😂
The cutie mark on one side. I know in previous gen this was the norm and it's G4 who includid it on both side, but it was great for visual identification, and also to show how important a cutie mark is. The fact it's in the same vers but they have it on one side only now is really weird for me. And I know why they really did it. It's easier for toy making. G4 toys never had the cutie mark on both side. So if in the show they had it only on one, it's a merch dream. Ugh. They did the same with the crystals. See the plasticy glittery texture? Merch oriented. They can sell the exact replica! The textures in the 3D show, especially MYM are really bad. They are plastics, the whole show looks like a doll house you can buy. And to be fair, I adore the G5 toys over the G4 ones. But in a show I find it really cheap and money oriented.
This aspect of everything feels like it exist to sell toys is the factor that ruins G5 the most for me. Each decision seems motivated with money in mind so it doesn't feel like a genuine show, because at the end, the ones who validate what will be aired, make their decisions based on the money they'll be making.
Speaking of that. The style of animation. As much as I love 3D, starting Make Your Mark it was AWFULL. The models are still good, but the lightning, texturing, and special effect, it look so cheap it hurt. Oh gosh the vines in the first MYM episode 😭 I was like : am I watching an old barbie moovie?
Then. There is TYT. i HATE the style of TYT. Not because it's ugly (though frankly poor Hitch) but because it's the trendy animation style of these last couple of years. We've seen it in gravity falls, the howl house, over the garden wall... It does not have a personnality on it's own. Wich is a shame, really!! It's just cheap puppet animation devoided of creativity. And it's supposed to be the mane G5 media now. It's sad. They didn't even bother to do something original. And by they I point the finger at hasbro, not the creative team.
The characters. I have an issue with three of them. Hitch, Pip, and Sunny. Yes Zipp and Izzy are not perfect but they are enough of their own character, even with the comparaison to RD and Pinkie Pie. i find them different enough, and driven. Misty is the best part of G5 so I won't talk about her, only maybe to point how her cutie mark finished by being the same she drew on, which I find really easy scenaristicly speaking.
Hitch. Hitch changed personnality beetween the first movie and MYM / TYT, for the worst. He became a coward and comic relief most of the time, clashing with his high sens of loyalty honor and dutie who worked so well in next gen. What a shame.
Pip. Oh pip. I had so much hope for her. Because yeah she is a tiktoker influencer which is... not appealing. But she had a place in a world where kids idolized influencers, and develops eating disorder svrolling on instagram. She could have touched so many subject about how to navigate social media in safety, how to still be connected to the real world, how social media doesn't reflect reality... She was important in what she could tell. But since G5 never wants to touch sensitive subjects except with Misty and maybe Posey, just look how fast racisme dissapeared, yeah, Pip is nothing more than... What we feared she'll be. It's so sad. This character deserved better.
Sunny. The. Big. Problem. Sunny is supposed to endorse a leader position as Twilight before her. But Twilight was flawed. Insecure, passionated, smart with books but dumb in social situations. She learned and grew so much, overcoming her anxiety abd embracing her quirks and personnality. Sunny at the end of Next Gen was... Accomplished. There was nothing more for her to.. Be. I hoped this would not be an issue as I thought MYM would be centered around bringing harmony in equestria, resolving intolerences issues. In that regard the cast was perfect for that! Sunny pushing to act, pip with her influencer carreer could touch people, Hitch show how everyone could be nice and help each other, Zipp by being logical, helping people figuring out scientificly there new magic, and trying to understand what lead to each situation, and Izzy by being bubbly, friendly and open, making people feel at ease. Then Misty who better than anyone, understand empathy, fear, and loneliness. But they did nothing of that. Flight and magic ? Resolved in a five minute episode FOR THE ENTIRE SPICIES when in G4 they spent YEARS mastering even the simplest of magic, or flight. So what was left for Sunny? Her... Smoothie shop.

I can't. I never thought the smoothie shop was important. It seems in the moovie something she did as a... "i have not found my place and my purpose yet". But... No. No the smoothie shop is... Essential.
Ah, let's talk about jobs and Pip a little more. Wtf with pip having all the jobs of the world? She's a princess, a pop star, an influencer, and she... Opened a hair salon. Oh gosh it makes no sense. But it sells toys! Yeah. The salon beings nothing to the table. It even feels restrictive. They can't be on the moove. They are stuck with their jobs. And compared to G4, when they begin with activities but each find their purpose, opening boutiques for rarity, taking over the farm for AJ, being a wonderbolt for Rainbow, becoming ruler of equestria, opening a school of friendship for Twi and even the animal care center for Fluttershy, there is a sense of accomplishment. With G5 they... have it all already.
Anyway, there is so much more to say about how the plot is poorly written, how Opaline does nit feel like a menace at all, how she was supposed to be fleshed out in two entire seasons but was not, and how she was inconsistent with her powers, goal, and defeat, the trees that came out of nowhere, Zipp who remember something we never ever saw. And the new villain who is... Like... Just toy bait.. I just can't enjoy. I'm so sad. Plus, I'm french, wich means i'v got season 2 AI voice acting of TYT. What. A. Disgrace. Thank god I speak enough english.
I want to add that G4 had plot holes. But G4 rarely had a real long story stretching on an entire season, even less two, three if we count TYT season 1. Plot holes are meant to happened in theses conditions. But it's not how G5 was written. G5 was supposed to be a well thought out and fleshed out story. From the G4 not standing the ages, mystery around Twilight, long battle against opaline, reabilitating magic, learning how to live with it all over again, reconstruct the world, entangle racisme... It promised us all of that, but... It just never told that story. Things feeled rushed. Filler episodes are unsuffurable to watch because I wanted to see so much more, not just "it's hard to own a smoothie shop and remember everyone's favorit smoothie" Or "baby dragon running around for 40 minutes"
And just why 5 minutes episodes have the construction an entire building, and a 40 minutes episode they are just looking for sparky?! Why the way the mane five got their cutie mark is so rushed and uninspired, in a 40 minutes episode when in a 20 minutes in G4 it felt fleshed out even if not perfect ?
G5's plot holes are hard to accept. Because they had the time. Because they promised us a story thought out from begining to end. And they did not deliver.
For me, G5 is objectivly a bad piece of media. It's an enjoyable mess, for some, and I wish I was one of them. i love the barbies animated movies! It's not like I" thrive for only the best"
I think there are great things to enjoy in G5. misty, some shenanigans, the univers is still sparkly, bright and comforting. But even if it was it's own thing, not attached to G4, I think it would have been juste to middle of the road to really stand out. It's not a timeless classic, it can't hold it's own weight. One day we may remember it foundly as for G3 or G2, but with the actual quality delivered, even with a cute univers, and enjoyable characters, it... Just can't thrive...
G5 deserved way better. G5 deserved to have been done by ab other producer than Hasbro. This is what make it too hard to watch it for me. I only see what could have been, and cannt enjoy what is there.
I hope for G5 to pass away and open the way for something new or to correct and find it's own identity as I know it could. But I fear Hasbro won't give the generation this chance 😢

I get that they're trying to make G5 a bit more like G4 but why give Hitch *Fluttershy's* talent? (Talking to animals) cause Fluttershy's talent was to communicate with animals (it was her cutie mark) it kinda just shows that her talent was useless in the show if Hitch has the same talent. Especially since its *Not* his talent.
His cutie mark is to help others. (Correct me if im wrong about his cutie mark i havent finished the series yet) And NOT to communicate with animals
