      it's not. You can skip (retreat) all room battles you find on the dead ends while still counting them as explored, which makes those missions the safest of the 2, specially on long dungeons since they can have multiple dead ends and you can heal some of the retreat stress. long exploration mission in the warrens are the easiest since the maps tend to be one big rectangle with many interconnected rooms.

    A NOTE ABOUT EXPERIENCED RECRUITS
    Experienced Recruits is the best upgrade in the hamlet. Take it ASAP. After taking one level of Experienced Recruits, you have the option to take any level 1 character from the wagon and replace a level 0 or 1. Instead of spending gold to buy Smith/Guild upgrades for your units, you get those upgrades for free as you upgrade your roster. The first level is especially nice. Level 1 units begin with access to all of their abilities, and can be adjusted immediately. (and for free!)
    Protip: The cost reduction upgrades in the Guild and Blacksmith can wait until most/all of the unit upgrades you're buying are Level 4 or greater. Save your heirlooms for the smithing, mastery, and Experienced Recruits upgrades.
    Protip 2: In the hamlet, you can click the arrows to the right of your heirloom counts to exchange heirlooms of one type for another. Funnel extra heirlooms you don't need to a type you do, and you can grab upgrades weeks faster than farming would take.

    • @quinnlee-miller9792
      @quinnlee-miller9792 9 місяців тому +4

      Fun facts:
      No, cost reduction upgrades are supremely useful and go a long way to not bankrupting you. Every upgrade is another reduction of RNG being able to fuck you, and you want those upgrades ASAP, but it'll end up with you not having enough money to provision most of the time. The slivers of gold really do add up over time, especially with heroes you bring in and need to level.
      Experienced recruits are the worst upgrade for Blood Moon/Stygian. The chance of a level 1 hero showing up is 18.75, 2 is 12.25 and 3 is 6.25. Add that to the fact that the hero you get could be so awful you wouldn't want to take them, and it's a wash. Sure you COULD get a level 3 Vestal with Hippocratic, or something else fantastic, but the chances are so abysmal that I'd never bother past the first upgrade, if at all.
      Finally, heirloom trading should be kept to a bare minimum, because you are losing I want to say either 33% or 66% of your heirloom value in the trade; the exception is Busts, because they're fucking useless. If you can trade portraits or deeds for a skill/armor/weapon upgrade, go for it bc that's huge.

      It depends on the team too, sometimes.
      Shieldbreakers without grinding out the nightmares? NEVER on medium or long missions.
      Even with camping, medium and long missions also often kill.
      It's not thst one is better.
      It's that nothing is truly safe.

    • @WhatWillYouFind
      @WhatWillYouFind 2 роки тому +10

      Short maps that arent battle room completion have between 4-8 battles across the map. If you're dying by these maps then your composition/items/upgrades/skills might suck. If you are doing a BOSS mission on a short map, expect pain and be weary of roaming bosses such as the Collector. Short missions you can usually blitz the fights and just end battle by round 3 but stall it to 5-6 to heal up. You really should take advantage of the weaknesses of each zone between bleed or blight and carry provisions that are most common to each.
      The opposite is true for Long, you need a very effective and synergistic team composition or you will get bear blasted down either by damage or stress rapidly. Medium is the randy random where you might get battles, traps, or curios enmass between each room and sometimes RNG is brutal. Scouting is especially important for medium and long maps, it helps with ambushes or seeing the roaming bosses. Medium and Long maps, definitely think about no camp ambush skills unless you go into the camp fairly healthy.

      A couple stress-inducing enemies focusing one character causing them to go crazy, and that's snowballing into other characters having their actions disrupted.
      That four pelagic grouper fight focusing a single party member.
      There's a lot more ways you can lose someone or get a party torn to pieces on a short run.

    Medium missions are the safest, becouse of camping.

    • @DailyCorvid
      @DailyCorvid Рік тому

      I disagree, the safer missions have the least amount of fights and rooms because each room increases stress and therefore ALL risks. So the safest missions are short missions which don't depend on 90 or 100% exploration. You can get through them without taking much stress or damage with a little planning. Longer missions you can't do that, you are reliant upon camp skills and looting, or you might have to flee the dungeon.
      Look at it like this : The game is rolling a dice and you die if you roll a 6. 1 roll is safe, 3 rolls is not safe, 6 rolls is certain death. That's like your battles and room events, and in longer missions you generally will camp every 6-8 rooms. But an easy short mission doesn't even have that many!
      So in effect - camping means you have to survive 6-8 rooms in order to use it (otherwise you will run out of supply and die before the end anyway). Shorter missions you can just bring 12 food 8 torches and basically use those to heal and survive easy (but make less loot / money).

    I haven't been this early in a while so Imma share a dream that I just woke up from a few hours ago.
    So it was Darkest Dungeon, but instead of a Turn Based RPG it a Real Time, First Person Point and Click Adventure game, but it still had the same inventory system as DD. The characters looked like if someone took DD graphics and put them in like an AR game, like how old 3d games would lay 2d sprites over 3d environments.
    It was my first mission and it took place in the small library down the street from my childhood house. My party was me (who was unseen), MAA, Hound Master, and Vestal. They would roam around the library and interact with curious to find clues (don't ask me what clue is be we needed 12) and complete objectives on their own.
    I went around my library finding clues getting loot and trinkets. It was moderately dark so we filled up on loot fast.
    However I didnt know the game timer kept going while I decided what loot I got. So I was confused when my MAA started gaining stress when I was deciding g what loot to keep and what to trash, cause I managed to have a drop with 2 orange and 1 red trinket and Dodechedrons or whatever. Then both the HM and the MAA interacted with curious on their own and I multiple loot drop windows to manage and they wouldn't appear in my vision at the same time, I had to like alternate between them.
    Suddenly my MAA gets a fuck ton of Stress, has a heart attack, and tucking drops dead. And then I realize I only have like 20 seconds left to finish the quest.
    I've only found like 3 clues, so I say "fuck it we aren't finishing" so I sprint around some book cases and over to the computer stations where the MAA sprite lies lifeless and flat on the ground under the computer desk in front if a his chair. (he's basically in his Curios interact postion)
    I scoop up the 3 diamonds he found, yell at my Hound Master and Vestal to head to the door. The time runs out then I wake up.

      If you are already doing cost reduction upgrades, then try running antiquarian more. Bring stress healers on missions so you don't have to pay for it after, and bring diseased units with plague doctor or grave robber to have them get cured. Otherwise maybe you are being too aggressive with the sanitarium with locking in quirks or removing them. I'm just throwing out general stuff since I can't see your saves specifically :)

      @Tocha_official 3 роки тому

      @@ShuffleFM Well, my stress reduction buildings are all at level 3-4, not really maxed. I always wait for the convention event for quirks but what I did aggressively was stress reduction. I always thought that all my adventurers should be at 0 stress even when their stress is at 20-30, I still put them in one of the buildings. Is that the cause? What level of stress do you recommend to have the hero treated?

    • @Tocha_official
      @Tocha_official 3 роки тому

      @@ShuffleFM Oh yeah, and I usually wasted my provisions. I like to buy at least 3 of all the items needed to trigger better rewards from curios. But I usually discarded some of them. Torches too. I usually ended up discarding one of the stacks for treasures.

    • @ShuffleFM
      @ShuffleFM  3 роки тому +1

      That sounds like a pretty big drain of money, so maybe we found the issue. I don't use stress heal buildings unless they are 50+. In normal play with high torch a jester or crusader can clean up 30 stress in a couple turns if you slow it down on the last enemy for a few fights. You can also camp early in dungeons for stress healing.
      Provision management can also drain some money over a long period, but it isn't as obvious since it's only a couple hundred gold at a time. Supplies are one of the hardest things to do considering the entire mission, and I still waste a lot when I play so it's pretty normal. It's worth tightening up though if possible.
