You’re life is so aesthetically pleasing to me because it’s not perfect but very human. Hope you’re doing well Emma 💓
are we granting ourselves to read David C over two months?
Emma, you've got this, honey.
I'm 35 and hoping to get my GED by year's end. Then aiming for a BA in anthropology. And with luck, a Masters in archeology. It's not over until it's over. Always aim for the dream that feeds your soul. Even if the route you take is unconventional.
Remember, it's not just about a degree. This is something you're doing for yourself, first. 💜
Write the academic counselor a note of thanks (or not, who am I to tell you what to do, lol)! So much of the other side of academia is thankless, and I bet he’d love to know that he *really* helped you. I’ve kept all the thank you notes from my students and it really lifts my day up when I’m having a bad one.
So true!!!!
yes haha I'm gonna send him a big box of chocolate or something
hey emmie. I don't comment much on youtube but I wanted to say how grateful I am for the videos you post. They always make me feel comfortable, relaxed and inspired to read, study or spend time in nature and with my family. I also identify a lot with your academic journey and I graduate college this year, so I'm excited to see you starting your masters the same time as I do!!!
I hope you keep getting better and that you won't have to wait long before moving to a place where the birds sing all the time and the sky is always beautiful.
xx
Dearest Emmie, if I may suggest a tip for your bookshelf because I’m facing the same issues; too many books, too little shelf-space.
Now before you start applying “the double-layer method” which should only be a last resort for reasons obvious.
You might consider using up the heights between your shelves to their full extent.
Seeing that both of your bookcases in the top row have Penguin black editions/ Oxford editions neatly together, they do waste the spaces in between.
I’m suggesting for you to STACK them to the full extent of the space, and to make it playful drop in two or three standing books, then again stack up those books for full potential of your bookcase. You’ll be able to fill in at least 10 more books this way😂
Hope you don’t mind me saying so, because it is a personal thing but it will hopefully work to your book-lovers advantage.
Hugs!
Perfect cure for the Sunday Scaries
I hope your week coming up will be so lovely!
Emma researching, discussing, and writing about hotels (and their depiction) in media texts for a thesis? I am here for all of your contemplations about it.
Glad your academic advisor was such a great help providing you a pathway to achieve your goals. I am an English teacher looking to move into academic advising and be a source of guidance and comfort to students.
Calcifer with kicks. He made me LOL trying to get the catnip from you then all the kicks. 😂😂
you've literally come to save my life a lil bit right now because i couldn't be sadder and i missed your content thank you love you
What’s wrong? 😢
I hope you feel better soon. Praying for you ❤🦄🌷
we're sending you all the love
Feeling like your academics aren’t progressing as much as you want can be so frustrating. Covid and health struggles kept me from pursuing graduate studies for a while, however I’m starting my MA in the Fall, it ended up being great timing and I’m glad things turned out this way. Im sure that the extra courses and thesis work will be beneficial to you in your applications and preparedness for grad school. I hope it ends up being something you can find joy in.
Best of luck in your applications!
I know well the frustration of thinking you're done with something and having more things to do. But hey, glad you'll get the opportunity! 🙂I'm starting Ember and the Ice Dragons today--looking forward to it! Have a great week, Emma!
ooh so excited for you - I hope it puts you in the best mood ever!
When I was your age, my first pet as an "adult" was a black and white long hair cat named Phoebe. She. Was. The. Best! I miss her still.
I get your love for Calcifer. The thing we first nurture and grow in our adult lives will always have a special place in our ❤️.
Same goes for plants.
I still have cuttings from a mother plant I got in 2002.
You and Calcifer reviewing cat toys is the sweetest. I have an orange kitty. He is such a fire cracker, but so loving. ❤️
Edit: I love when they do the bunny kicks. 😭
I traveled home to the US during spring break at my study abroad program in France at the same time you were home!! there is literally nothing like going home when you've been somewhere completely different for so long
I was an academic advisor at a uni for 10 years so it made me smile hearing you talk about yours :)
omg the furreal friend is ANCIENT the nostalgia that brought me I was obsessed with my little duckling as a kid
So happy to see flowers blooming, Calcifer playing and you happy to have seen your family. Looking forward to finding out which classes you'll be taking. Go Emmie! You can do it!! 📣
The timing of this video omg, I just had my therapy session and am finishing a spread in my colouring book 🥰I hope you're having a calm start to studying Emma, thank you so so much for the wonderful work that you do 💓
Emma your videos always make my days better, they re calming and grounding. I just love hearing about your life, so very thankful that you are sharing it like this with us
Emma I adore your personality so much! your videos are really comforting to me, thank you for being such a wonderful person! I’m proud of you🤍
"welcome to emma and calcifer review cat toys" you guys are the definition of adorable 😭💗 i want someone to love me as much as you love calcifer 🥹🫶
omg i'm so excited for you to read shatter me, literally can't wait for the vlog!!
listening to you talking is such a comfort
I love him I love him I love him! Calcifer is such a sweetie ❤
omg i love colouring while listeneing to audiobooks! it!s the best! it really does help with my anxiety too
“seeing trees again” got me right in the feels. I know that reaction. So excited for what’s coming for you!❤. And I’m actually LOVING David Copperfield, I’m shocked, SHOCKED!! ⚡️
You have a way of somehow bringing peace and encouragement
into a persons life😌. Thank you, you are wonderful and one of a kind.
Congratulations on everything that you accomplish 👏
Calcifer's so lively and loving. He's changing my image about cats. I'm hoping that i'll be selected for honours course too, so happy you did, congratulations! I really liked this vlog Emma. It felt good.
Thank you for this video Emma! It gives me something positive to think about, really needed this right now.
All the best for upcoming semester!!
15:35
Emma: Do you wanna see??
Calcifer: *casually nodded
Awww 😍🥺
omg i'm going back to college tomorrow as well. now having you post more academic vlogs will definitely motivate me through this semester
I love your cat and I’m not a cat person but he’s awesome! Also, I recently decided to take a quarter off from uni for mental health reasons. Your discussions on self-care and prioritizing your mental health are inspiring. Thanks!❤
I'm glad you got your coloring therapy. I like to do printed cross-stitch to relax. It feels similar.
I know this might not be particularly helpful, but I'm grateful that we get to follow along for another bit of you studying. I was supposed to be in the second year of a undergraduate degree this year, but I couldn't go back for the second year in a row now. It's been rough. I miss being a student so much. Most of my friends are students and I'm having to watch them study and listen to their campus and class stories, wanting all of that but not having it. Getting to see you study makes me feel a bit more like a part of the student world and it really helps.
I'm so sorry that your degree has also been, and still is, taking twists and turns. I know the emotional turmoil that can cause.
But thank you for sharing the journey with us ✨️
I like the jumper you are wearing.
You make batch cooking look so easy .
omg i too had to extend my graduation because of health issues just a few weeks ago! i dont know why but it made me feel so happy to know that you're going through the same thing too. i feel like you're my friend and I enjoy your videos a lot
Crying at Calcifer arched over while crouching on the shelf. Reminds me of Howl wrapped in his blanket when he sees Sophie off to the King's Palace.
i can't tell how much i enjoyed and laughed when you two were reviewing toys.....both of you are the cutest
'Emma and Calcifer review toys' might just be one of my favourite things ever! It's funny how the things that we always plan out, but don't work out the way we want to somehow still do - congrats on taking on that final uni sprint! I'm really happy for you that you're able to write your thesis - all the best as always and wishing you a wonderful final term ahead 💙
Best of luck Emma, you'll fly your studying. As always, you have the best videos. Your voice in particular, doesn't have that hyper, end-of-sentence-lift that a lot of booktubers have. I could listen to you all day 💕👏
Good luck and congrats on your return to school! ❤ I was a first Gen college student and can definitely agree the right academic counselors make ALL the difference. I would’ve been lost without them. Can’t wait to see what you do with your education!
(Side note, love your footage from home. I grew up in the rural backwoods of Tennessee and your woods look so much like mine, it made my heart warm. I also just can’t get adjusted to city life. I love my blue skies and birds and grass and sticks and dirt and creeks too strongly. I’m a child of dirty elbows, knees, and running with bees 🐝)
seeing eevee always warms my heart. what a lovely life you lead ♡
also, welcome to the cat mum/colouring book club ♡♡♡
elated to be here honestly lol
What an interesting turn of events. I am in the middle of writing my master thesis so i cant wait to hear about your thesis. Sharing the highs and lows.
ooh what's yours on??
i feel so seen and validated after your rant about obsession with your cat, because girllll same,,, sometimes i'm really concerned about myself
Me encantan tus videos por los vibes que transmites, son tan sumamente buenos que llego a sentir pena de no haber nacido en un lugar así. En fin, simplemente puedo dar gracias a videos así.
Calcifer content makes me so happy
I love seeing you sit out in nature and all the variety of things you shared with us. You also reminded me to give my kitties some cat nip. Your boy is so cute. 😊❤ love you. I saw a phantom of the opera item at a store today and thought of you.
Sticking out a degree in the final months is the hardest part!! I just wanted to quit and be done so many times. Good luck to you in the final stretch :)
if you’re missing nature, toronto has plenty of beautiful large parks. take a trip to high park or the brickworks if you’re needing it!
i need to come back to coloring, i think it could help me with my anxiety, i love your coloring era, i am sending you so much love
Excited for you and your uni update. I start my masters in English program April 17th. Nervous and excited about starting.
I really needed this vlog today i've had a bit of a stressful week/days and this gave me so much calm and peace so thank you AGAIN for what you do! love you 💕🍄🍃
@@emmiereads thank you, Emma! I hope you have a wonderful week too ✨
I was waiting for a video to watch while I have dinner! Thank you for uploading! ❤
i'm so happy that you are going to get to the thesis of your dreams!!
I know how you feel about city vs. rural living! I had a really hard time adjusting to living in cities after growing up incredibly rural, but found my remedy was living in a smaller apartment building or converted house that has it's own outdoor space like a small yard or patio that is in a quieter neighborhood that has great walkability and is close to a park that I can walk or bike to. Maybe worth looking into a different area of Toronto might help?
Good to hear about you going for your honours. I started my undergrad in 1996. I received my undergrad in 2011. That is not a bumble brag. Your two years away sound like a trial. It is invigorating to hear about all of the university books in your newest video. I'm looking forward to more literature videos. But, not so much that any implied pressure would distract from your actual work. Academia is richer for having your input.
You seem like you’re doing really good! Happy for youu
Always love your videos! Also loving the haircut so much 🥰
I wrote two thesis papers in the same semester too and it is one of the accomplishments Im the most proud of. Know it will be hard, but it is possible!
Calcifer is a terrific tabby emma!! And don't worry about school! if you study hard and take notes you will do fine! Nothing, wrong with being a cool bohemian lol 😅
I had a single-day dose of Toronto yesterday and that does seem to be the best way to experience it lol (although I do honestly wish I could go to the AGO more often ☹️ and U of T campus is also such a nice place to go for a walk)
Best of wishes with going back to school ❤️ also I love that you talk to Calcifer in French that's adorable
I’m sorry to hear about your graduation. I had to quit my uni in my second year when my dad passed away due to financial/health reasons. I finally went back two years later and started all over again. I’m going to start my fourth year in April (we start in April in Japan) at the age of 25. I know it can feel like you’re falling behind sometimes, but just know that your unique experience is important. I hope you enjoy the last 6 months of your undergrad, and from one literature major to another, I’m rooting for you😊
I'm glad you got to see everyone at home,Eevee included!Don't spoil Calcifer too much!🐥
You are such a good cat mom! I just love seeing him in your videos. My Sir Francis is very sick and I'm having to say goodbye. 🤑 all your time with your cat.
Yayyyy I'm so glad you're back at uni!!! My courses are all online, too, and I've been taking 3-4 classes per semester instead of 5 (technically still full-time), so I've been working year-round for 4 years and I'm still not done. I almost quit with a 3-year degree, too, but I couldn't do that to future-me who might want a masters. So now I'm doing my 4th year part-time, which means my 4-year degree will take about 6 years. 🤣
So I totally get what you're going through! But we'll all be here cheering you on. 🤗
I wrote my undergraduate honors thesis in a week. It nearly killed me but I got it done. And I still procrastinate when it comes to writing academic papers (I’m on leave from my PhD due to illness and debating whether to go back to it). It will be worth it when it’s done. Just make sure you choose a topic you can live with for a semester.
Gosling reminds me of The Penguin from the old Batman show. I appreciate the way you incorporate the bilingual element, making sure the gataphilic Acadian watchers are not neglected.
i recently had to cancel and extend my graduation due to health reasons and hearing you talk about it lighted something off my shoulders. even though it's not ideal, there is no rush! it's so nice to hear someone else validate that
I’m in the same boat but there is really is no rush and we just have to try and enjoy it :)
I have the exact same edition of David Copperfield (from the library). I'm reading it right now. I'm at page 257 out of 882. So more than a quarter of the way through, but not quite a third. I'm really liking it. It was so funny seeing Calcifer almost obliterate the tube of catnip.
Birdsong would be a lovely title for one of your novels, Emma. Glad you re-charged yer batteries with some nature. It's so necessary.
Calcifer is the star of this video thank u very much
Cutie calcifer deserves all the toys
I love that you love nature and animals so much ❤❤🥰🥰🤗🤗⭐⭐
It's so interesting to me that you said you hadn't heard bird song in months. I live in Germany's second biggest city (Hamburg, whoop whoop) and I got trees right in front of my apartment. The birds do be chirping here. I think big Northern American cities are more sparse with their greenery in general, though 😅
Hope you'll have a good time going back to school now, even though it wasn't planned
I started David Copperfield! I had to restart it but I’m already loving it! There’s something to do with irony of some situations I’m really intrigued by that wondering where we’re going with that it’s his humor.
Emma! That coloring thing is so cool and fun! And i prefer markers too! I always get excited every time I find something that we both like and we have in common ❤ also I’m so sure your gonna write the best thesis ever! Also I loved seeing Calcifer so happy 💕 let us know if you pick up anything by Elena Garro!
22:14 I've been swimming my whole life, not only is it so enjoyable but its also a tremendous exercise!
Good luck with your studies! I'm currently doing the last courses of my master's and writing my thesis so I'm looking forward to your study videos :)
had to pause the vlog because i really feel compelled to say that there’s lots of nature, trees, and birds in TO. there is literally a huge greenbelt through the middle of the city. there are ravines. there are beautiful parks. biking to work i would often see deer in the forest within 5 minutes of broadview station, and i have even seen a coyote at fort york. see what the non-condo areas of toronto have to offer, i promise you will hear and see birds 🙂
i’m so excited for you and your current reads :DDDD can i just say you look great with that new haircut !
thank you lovely !
I can’t remember if you’ve read A Gentleman in Moscow but it’s perfect for a lit thesis based on hotels!
As early as speed of light 😭😭 by the wayi love you Emma.... You brighten up my day❤❤
haha thank you so much beautiful
I’m finishing up my law degree in the next couple months and studying for the bar this summer if you need a buddy ❤ good luck on the thesis and last couple classes! And congrats!
Omg Calcifer stole the show. My cat eats catnip! Put 1/2 tablespoon down for him and see what happens 🥰 You got this with school! We're all rooting for you!
How is there more snow in the AZ deserts right now than there????
Also yay for Sundays with Emma!
You've become such a grounding relaxing start to my Sundays for a few years now, so appreciative of you. ❤❤
right? I was so sad that we've barely had any snow this winter - thank you for being here for so long, love you girl
When you turned on the duck I literally laughed out loud oh my god 🤣
Calcifer is such a cutie!!
Hi Emma, hope you're having a good day, you really always make my day♡
thank you!! hope your Sunday is going wonderfully
Hi Emma! First of all, I'm so happy for you that your going back to school! Keep going! You can do it! Second of all, I love your motivation and independence! I absolutely love your book hauls! I've been reading some fantasy books including, "We Hunt The Flame".🔥
Fantasy books are my escape!📖📖📚📚
I'm very happy about you going after your Honors Specialization class and Thesis papers! You'll do amazing! Keep dreaming big!✨️✨️✨️
I recommend you reading "The Book Thief", "Anne of Green Gables", "A Tale of Two Cities", and "Little Women."
Also, please read "When the Mountain Meets The Moon", by Gracie Lin. It's a great fantasy book with wonderful illustrations!📚📚📕
Calcifer is such a beautiful cat!🐈🥰🥰
yesss i needed vlog by you so much
Hi Emma! Loved the video, but the Calcifer reviews are the best! 😺🐾🐾💖
hopefully we can do them more often lol
Calcifer is so cute with his toys 😍
Another enjoyable vlog. 🙌
Cats are great! I love coloring too! I keep meaning to do sessions or coloring while listening to an audiobook or something lol
I love seeing the books I sent you on your bookshelf!!! ❤❤❤📗
I'll be starting David Copperfield very soon. It was behind Kate Lumsden's new novel - her first - on Audible. Obviously your tbr is full but when you get a chance try it. It's called The Secrets of Hartwood Hall, and since you'll be doing a first novel soon enough it will be a fine measuring post for you. I wrote my undergraduate thesis on the German Industrial Revolution, and I suppose it was useful when it came time to write my Masters' thesis - and that's all that's important, right? Well, you and I do have things in common it seems, as I too really enjoying coloring. Thx, enjoyed very much.
Yes colouring 🙌
I just love your channel! As a graduated English major myself (currently hoping to move jobs from a Progress Coach - like an Academic Coach- to an English Intervention tutor) I can understand the amount of work there is to get through, and that's just the reading and essay prep research! I'm currently putting together a Research Proposal for my PHD as for medical reasons I need to go part time with work but still want to stay in education and especially focus on my passion and specialist subject which is English Literature. Just debating if I should go for Gender and Genre in Shakespeare's Treatment of Silence or Terror(ism) in Early Modern Drama: Politics as violence in Early Modern stage Dramas? 🤔 I've briefly researched both but can only choose one for my Research Proposal that will then hopefully become my PHD subject for the next 2-4 years so I have to choose carefully! Good luck with going back to school, sometimes we have to make difficult decisions that are beneficial for ourselves so I'm happy you put yourself first with that :-) And Calcifer looks so much like my Ginger cat Weasley 😻 xx
I’m loving David Copperfield. 90 pages/weekend for 9 weekends.
