- In this video, Rebecca and I finish the three-week-long RCKicks Monster Herbie build project. Two bodies all painted in, one in the box art Black Edition livery and the other in the iconic movie Herbie car livery.
We had issues with slow paint delivery and continuous rain hindering the build process.

Hi Rebecca and Gav - you did a lovely job painting those bodies. The Herbie Monster Bug turned out great, nice to see something a bit different. It will be interesting to see what you can come up with for the wheels and tyres, plus the chrome bumper. Having said that, it still looks pretty damn good with the stock rims! :)

I love tamiya kit there not a basher they are not made to go 70 mph but they are fun to go out and bounce them around. I just got two midnight pumpkins a chrome version and a black version for me and my wife to build together this will be her first one of many.

Jason Smith Hehehe It’s OK I fixed the colour in the next video that’s coming out. Screwed up the sound a bit but I’ve fixed the colour issue hehehe. I’ll get it in the end.
Your destroy the gearbox 1) i did with s monster beetle one that came out in the 1990s on a tamiya nicad battery 540 motor a sports tuned you will get problems too even with the new dog bones as they pop out as back suspension drops to low but you exsperts probably worked this out by now. Get mip diff and shorten rear shocks i recommend as i will do when i re build my re release one! Could not get black one so bought extra body to do both and going to use a frog light grey chassis.

I have a re-re Monster Beetle kit to build next, but cant seem to decide on a color for it. It looks good in red, but I don't want to paint it red. I wish it was the black edition...

Comical avante looked more fun. Needs some setup work to prevent too much wheelies though. Lightweight lipo up top would lesson traction rolling too.
Regarding tyres. Take a look at the proline Hoosier Super Chain Link T 2.2" or proline trencher 2.2". Both have a realistic tyre look.
Have you thought about adding some plates like they do on drift rc cars?

How did you feel about the ball diff difference? You could use that green slide as a massive jump, fingers crossed.
Peter Renaud Well we know the MIP will take more power and won’t explode every now and again so that’s a win. Can’t say about drivability yet as we haven’t run the car in anger. I’ve got a basher body coming for it so Rebecca can have it as a trail basher.

Gavin, have you tried using micro-sol and micro-set on the decals? I use them primarily on waterside decals, but the premise should work. Might be worth a look.
That’s a new one on me, what’s that? Happy pay to give it a try.
RCKicks it’s quite a cheap investment. It helps decals conform.

They both look fantastic, in your studio tour you mentioned getting decals blown up to size is this someone in the UK that does this as I’m trying to source some 1/8 Lancia delta martini decals.

What filler did you use for the plastic, how did you get it sanded so nice and smooth? Verry nice paintjob.
I dont understand why Tamiya says to put the shock limiters that limit the travel, specially in the front i dont see a reason for it... also why not limit the travel with a rubber tube but instead put this hard impact with the plastic limiters, i think i will change that on mine.
Do you notice a big difference with ball dif compared to standard?

Hi, it’s from a Tamiya Beetle kit. You have to mod it to make it fit the MB.

For average "normal" garden driving, no not really but if you want to run more brushless power or want to improve reliability then yes. It's an expensive upgrade so I wouldnt say its a great investment for an average Tamiya driver.

Using the hairdryer to soften decals, is that something you do with normal Tamiya stickers as well?
Yeah pal. Cut the sticker first. Then dip it in a soapy mixture. This enables you to place it perfectly. When happy with location whilst holding it, dab it dry squeezing the water out. Then hairdryer over any creases in the body.
why do you use primer? Is ther any Problem with TS colors directly onto the body?
I removed the sunroof and front joint so filler primer helps keep things nice and smooth.

Hi likeing the videos this is great wat radio gear do you use iv go rc tamiya cars and still useing tge retro cristals in my radiogear cheers.
Steve Lilly Flysky budget trans and receiver normally with the Tamiya basic ESC for basic brushed running. HobbyWing brushless stuff for the more quick cars. Servos are whatever I have in stock but normally banggood 25kg+ unless I’m after something super responsive and then it’s a Savox.
i hate the headlamps in the wrong location on these bodies. It just doesn't look good IMO.

Hi Gav, would the wheels and tyres from the comical Grasshopper be any good?
I did think about the comical cars funny enough. The issue is these are modern looking as well. The best rim that works is something like the King Cab as it’s almost a flat rim with just a middle bit of moulding that could be painted black. This is close to what Herbie’s wheels look like. The issue is I can’t find a rear set.
