I got super excited recently when I found this up for sale! I had been holding out hope for the Black edition to come back in stock or up for sale somewhere affordable. I jumped at this when I saw Amain Hobbies had them in stock! I think this version of the Monster Beetle is the best-looking version. Enjoy the build!

The Black Edition looks good.
The black and gold reminds me of a radio shack golden arrow
I thought the black body would have had a quality finish, that it didn't need painting. Great job though, but I would use much finer sandpaper.

I’m with you Addam, the black edition is definitely the best version of the MB in my opinion as well. I actually like the black editions that Tamiya do as whole. Nice job on the body shell looks super :)
Its on my list, but i must wait (lost a pup 2 days ago). yeah, I like the OG MB, but the Black Edition just WOW!!!!
Regarding mount ESC to the servo. That was a normal thing to do if you go back to the point this first did come out. Remember back then esc was in two parts with cables. The old style ESC with turning handle but allso that heat sink that was on cable. That is why the manual show you old and new style where to mount the old ESC and new ESC. But what setup you deside to do it fits both ways :) I did allso build this model. Love it :D
Looking fantastic Addam! I have a Red 2015 and absolutely love it but to be honest its pretty much a shelfer! Trouble is its way too nice to mess up! Like you said with yours mate just some light running. The Monster Beetle Really is a tamiya classic!

Im building mine with the frog chassis so it goes with the black body and red one! Also be using MiP SLIP DIFF as i know the problem with the gearbox from 30+ years ago as a teenager

Hi Addam, a very nice addition to your great collection. Some great hints and tips for the building of the chassis. I love the ORV chassis, I love how this chassis gets your into all the parts bags, right from step 1. The body turned out beautifully and you’re right the black version with those decals, really sets this one off. Great work. Take care and best wishes 😊😉😊
The Monster Beetle in black is epic! You are absolutely right, the red version (although it looks...OK) is more like a plastic toy whereas the black version just looks way better. The pin-chevron tires are awesome too. They just look angry sitting there!
