Sweet tone and volume from pipe corps. Compliments to who ever set up the chanters. Nice playing aswell, I really enjoy this short video. Thanks for posting.
I love the way the Highland regiments have had such a massive influence on police forces and army's in Canada, US, South Africa, Australia and NZ despite independence.
What a rather nasty wee small minded comment from Bruce MacAllan. I am English though I moved to Scotland in 1968. I love all things English, the land of my birth, and *all things Scottish*, my chosen adopted home. Why on Earth should such nasty wee comments be posted on a very fine video which promotes everything good about Scotland? This video is neither the time nor the place for political statements. I thank the original posters for their fine efforts.
See that sort of bullshit there mate.Just ignore that garbage.I like many Scots are proud of our heritage.I am also proud of what the U.K has achieved as'well. Most Scots avoid like the plague arses like Bruce. They are just bitter to the core and blame things on the English that happened hundreds of years ago when things were a lot different. My Grandfather served with English,Welsh and Irish in the War and when the shit hit the fan it was all British hands to the pumps.

@@isobelbabington4046 When I was a laddie with parents travelling through Belguim we stopped in a village looking for B&B - a cafe/pub was the only sign of life - when the locals realised we were Scots they were very hospitable. They did not forget that the area had been liberated by a Highland regiment in late 1944.
3:20 that's the most unexpected thing to see in a martial music fest... yet, the cutest :) that lad made my day with his awesome dance :D... thanks for posting
I have read that bagpipes are the only musical intrument classified as a weapon!! I can see why, they can get you hyped up. I can imagine regiments of redcoats marching off to destroy the enemy to bagpipes back in the days of Empire!!
Der Ausmarsch ist so geil. Wegen diesem Video habe ich den Reel JENNY DANG THE WEAVER gelernt. Das ist das letzte Lied. Es ist ziemlich schwer, aber ich habe es geschafft. Cooles. Video!
Tunes: Rab's Wedding / John D. Burgess. Dance set: Highland Laddie march on/off, dance tune "Marquis of Huntley's" for the Highland Fling. Exit first tune I'm too old to know, last tune is "Jenny Dang the Weaver." While I hate the stratosphere pitch of the recent decades (I have either perfect pitch or close enough and I imprinted on years-years-ago below-b-flat), still this band has great sound.
There is and can only be one Pipe Major in a military Pipe Band. He's the gentleman on the end of the left hand line wearing the red sash at 1.52. The only time you will see more than one Pipe Major is in a parade of massed bands
If you're talking about the lad who's doing the dance int middle of this video. He's doing The Highland Fling Dance, not the Sword Dance. Two Different dances.
Wearing costumes rich in ethnicity , the majestic and brilliant march feel so envious and moved , as a Japanese . From Tokyo in Japan Which national are you watching this video ?
i completely disagree, the noise of the scottish pipes and drums make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up everytime! As a scotsman it is a thing of beauty
Corrie121 The Highlanders is an amalgamation of the Queens Own Highlanders (Seaforth & Cameron) and the Gordon Highlanders in September 1994. The tartan is Cameron of Erracht but the tartan on the pipe bag is Gordon. Thankfully I had left the Regiment long before. CFGB
commandersandy the Royal Regiment of Scotland did exist in 2006 when this was recorded...I know this because I was attatched to the Highlanders and witnessed the parade when they changed to 4th Bn Royal Regiment of Scotland while we were in Iraq we were there oct 2005 - apr 2006! I was in the same company as all the lads in this video
It means "Stags Antlers for ever" in Scots Gaelic, it was the motto of the Seaforth Highlanders one of the Scottish regiments that was amalgamated into the Queens Own Highlanders, which were then in turn amalgamated into The Highlanders, now a battalion of the Royal Regiment of Scotland.
I presume that this is actually the 1st Batallion Pipes and Drums, Royal Regiment of Scotland? Several major consolidations occurred within the British armies in the first several years of the new millenium.
@segano1 I make uilleann pipes, you're off on the origins. They came directly from "pastoral pipes" which arose immediately after the baroque Oboe. Uilleann's were gentlemens' instruments that cost a year's wages for a laborer in the 1700's and 1800's when Scottish pipes were still primitive. Want to see the main bass drone bore proportions of a WW1 Henderson Scottish pipes? 1850's uilleann pipes. Scotland is important to the uilleann pipes but in a different way than you think.
Pipers lead the Regiments on to the Battlefields only armed with their pipes so I think they are the bravest of them all, so all you people knocking them just shut your big mouths. And that's coming from a piping Sassanach.
@fenbogle Other way round Taig, the Irish had nowt to do with Scotland before the Great Famine. Irish culture is a 19th century invention based off of Scotland's during the Gaelic revival period of 1890~1921. 'Irish' is a 16th century papal name imposed by Pope Leo X. The North of Ireland was historically the land of the Scots (hence the first writer to call N.Ireland/Hibernia as 'Scotia' was Isidore of Seville in the 6th century). Scotland was never the land of the Irish however.
But still in a kilt :) lol. He could be banging on some could bang on some pans and playing the air flute, but as long as he wears a kilt well lets just say YUMMY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The stags antlers of the old seaforths The motto is Cuichic an righ . It means help the king . Cabarfeidh is the dance & pipe tune One of the chiefs saved one of the scottish kings while out hunting
Governments have fucked around for years with the centuries old traditions of all these fine regiments. And what for ? To dissipate familial links and pride in serving in a regiment your father and grandfather served in. To save a few bob by having them all wear the same uniform. Decisions made by bean counters who don't understand these things. Do what ye will. They are always going to be the best.
judith nawiti I agree with you the soul was taken out of the regiments. However, the army has been shrunk out of recognition, and I wonder if regimental buildup of the Britiah army is still valid?
I love Bagpipes. Every time I hear them I close my eyes and they take me to Scotland.
Playing...once outlawed music, on once outlawed pipes, in once outlawed kilts....This always stirs the blood and touches the heart.
Heart stirring stuff !!
Thank you for sharing this excellent video post.

certainly the greatest military-musical culture in world history
Genial! Wir haben Sie live gesehen!
Ich finde es absolut klasse, wie manche Länder es schaffen Ihre Traditionen zu bewahren! MEIN RESPEKT DAFÜR!
Some of the best tuning I have heard. The Tenor drummer has some flair, like his style. Very nice work.
This music is beautiful
the pipes were great and that other guy had some swag-ass moves
7/7 would watch again
thank you -- beautiful --
Nothing like the pipes to encourage a propper swagger, mate. I don't trust a man that doesn't love the pipes.
i for one am a huge fan of scotland and the bagpipes :D
i do really enjoy the dancing :)
The Scot's fought and Died for Freedom all over the World for Hundreds of years, Thanks guy's.
Utter bollocks , they were canon fodder for English imperialism . Just who did we set free ?

Drum Major::: Wee Drew Caldwell- one of the biggest characters in army Pipes and Drums!
Absolut Genial
Scottish Pipes forever^^
Rab's Wedding, march-on tune. I've piped this tune countless times for non-Scottish audiences and had it very enthusiastically received.
Brillante!! mis respetos desde el sur de Chile.
Thank you so much for posting .
Beautiful!!

@Backs4more It is 4 RRS, the Pipe Major is wearing the Stag Head badge of the Gordon Highlanders on his sleeve, and the pipes are in Gordon tartan.
Aye the Cameron tartan what a dashing picture those Lads make.
Wonderful side-drumming. Uniquely Scottish.
Great video, loved the highland dance :)
Absolutely amazing
I would love to see a collaboration between these guys and Bulgarian pipers, it would be magical! :)))
the video is awesome :P
the hyland dance was always men before and after battle, nice to see that
excellent live recording!
My dad was in the Camerons (formed part of this regiment) ,taken prisoner at Tobruk 1942 by Rommels Afrika Korp, ironic this is in Koln, very proud.

The exit first tune is called "Hamilton's Nutsack." I know, it sounds weird but there's no improper subliminal message.

The title is wrong, they are part of the Royal Regiment of Scotland at this time, they have the RRS capbadge..

And here in good (?) old Germany our military musicans use to play any kind of big-band-jazz-music ^^

Can someone tell me whats with the leopard print?
