Die Auftritte der Massed Pipes & Drums gehören zu den wahren Gänsehautmomenten jedes Tattoos. Auch am Berlin Tattoo 2011 in der O2 World waren hochkarätige Formationen im sogenannten Full Dress, der originalen schottischen Uniform, aus allen Himmelsrichtungen vertreten.
I love listening to pipes in the morning and so do my neighbors =p

... as soon as I hear these beautiful sounds, I see the scottish landscapes and the skies above me ...
That sounds just so beautiful played in a hall like that. Gives me goosebumps and brings a tear to my eye everytime I hear the pipes and drums, but never like this before.
You've got to watch this several times. The first is of course for the beautiful sound of the pipes and drums, the second is to watch the precision of their performance, and the third is to take in both at the same time. This is the sound one returns to when you feel Gods' given you more than you can handle, it reaches into the soul and gives you strength. It's something you will return to again and again. If this music doesn't touch your soul you've my sympathy.
Try Playing it -Its a different kettle of fish ! -believe you me !

With a little Irish thrown in here... I am powerless in the presence of bagpipes, I even break into tears, they are so wonderful.

I used to play the pipes and was once a Pipe-Major. I can no longer play because of a serious injury to my right hand, but to hear the pipes moves my very soul, and the memories come flooding back together with the tears.

Did the Berlin Tattoo in 1987, What great memories! long time ago, but still feels like yesterday.
A would have loved to have been there, German people know how to party and lets face it, their beer is the best you can get..Respect Germany and outstanding performance from the Vancouver Police Pipe Band, you done us all proud. thank you....

The old rustic bridge, Castletownroche Co Cork, great to hear the Irish tune in there. It's said that Wellingtons army at Waterloo was 70% Irish many of them marched to the sound of great tunes like The Road to the Isles and Lord Lovats Lament and tThe Bluebells of Scotland and many others. Lots of good bands in Ireland who at the Scottish tunes in competition and in doing so pay proper tribute to the origin of the instrument. Love the drumming on this video, its very rhythmical and complements
Amazing! This weekend we have the Highland Games in our US city. I do not have a drop of Scotish blood but I love the opening and closing ceremonies as they feature the Massed Scotish Bands! Scotland the brave brings tears to my eyes.

The war pipe.... Does to me what no words have ever been able to express.. I hope and pray that there will be pipes in heaven!!! The Germans in WWII called them the fighting ladies from hell....no small wonder... May their honor forever stand!!!

There's just something 'bout the pipes.
They are instruments of war. Their battle cry produced a determined resolve among the soldiers moving toward the enemy lines and created a demoralizing effect among those awaiting the assault. My late grandfather was with the 16th Canadian Scottish regiment in WW I.The German soldiers he faced referred to his and other highland regiments as the "ladies from hell."
Of course they are instruments of war ! Because the whole history of Scotland (almost 100% similar to history of Croatia) is imperative to save homeland from intruders, enemies, invaders, abductors . . . .
Only people (like my countrymen ) who have that kind of inspiriance, are able to understand it!
And have bravery in their bones ( it is only 25 years ago when our neighbours tried to take half of my country and we had a war in Europe !, first after WW2).
"Ladies from hell" - it would be really great that I had an opportunity to hear some stories about it from your grandfather !! :)

So ein schönes Instrument, da dacht ich mir, fang ich das mal an zu lernen =D, wenn man das Instrument lernen will muss man eine menge Geduld mitbringen, auch übt man nicht gleich auf dem Sack sondern auf einem Practice Chanter, welche aussieht wie eine Flöte. nach 1 1/2 - 2 jahren kommt man erst zum sack wenn man denn genug geübt hat. Ich bereu keinen einzigen Tag dass ich angefangen hab Dudelsack zu lernen.

Its not just Europe, the pipes are played all over the world, For a wee lump of rock in the Atlantic, with a pop. of 5M I think we have done pretty well. We have probably helped to repopulate most of the Commonwealth. Perhaps we should have worn pants under the kilt just to slow things down. My brother was in the Argyles, in Stirling Castle. There was a mirror in the parade ground, anyone passing over to go out wearing a kilt was sent back if they were wearing, well you know??

I used to play Snare in the Royal Marines & always we Are the best, got to admit this was excellent, also fanfare trumpet , bugle & Glock, marching whilst playing & a change in tempo 😂

Also at 3:45 he gives the command to quick march, the band is in a square formation, upon the roll and the base drum starting they are in the thistle formation. The video was edited like I mention before. Sorry for the delay in replying.
