I thought this was way ahead of it’s time. It has a kind of trip-hop vibe, before that was a thing. It may be the first popular trip-hop song. This is actually a remix. The original version by this band is just a rock song. Major improvement though. The sample is from De La Soul - “Breakadawn” I love this song. According to the singer the song is about growing up in a small town. If you are an artist living nowhere and you can’t get out it feels like dying.
This is definitely the 90's but there was a little genre called Trip-Hop that's what this song's genre would be considered. If you're six feet underground, you're probably dead, as per the expression "six feet under." "It's about death in a small town environment," Chris Corner of Sneaker Pimps said in his Songfacts interview. "You grow up in this shit town and you yearn to get out. A lot of artists, we just can't survive in a place like that. So, the essence of that song is that living in a small town is like dying. For us it was a huge release to get out and to explore the world. To see what everything else is about. We all wanted that. You know, the northern industrial shithole. And that's really what that song's about." The small town where Corner grew up is Middlesbrough, England, whose famous sons include Chris Rea and Paul Rodgers. There is a sense of detachment in this song, especially in the line, "I'm open to falling from grace." This reflects the pushback Chris Corner got from his family and friends when he left to pursue music, and how he felt about return visits to his hometown. "When you go back to your family, or you go back to your friends and you visit those places, which I try to do very infrequently, it instantly suffocates you," he said. "People do feel like you've made a mistake. You left them."
More trip hop please! Sneaker Pimps, Portishead, Tricky, Massive Attack… Who am I forgetting? It’s such a vibe. Genre totally due for a comeback. Skinny jeans out, big fat raver pants back in, baby! I always hoped if I never evolved my style I’d eventually just slide right in to being retro.

Take me down
6 underground
The ground beneath your feet
Laid out low
Nothing to go
Nowhere a way to meet
I've got a head full of drought
Down here
So far off of losing out
Round here
Overground, watch this space
I'm open to falling from grace
Calm me down
Bring it round
Too way high off your street
I can see
Like nothing else
In me
You're better than I wannabe
Don't think 'cos I understand
I care,
Don't think 'cos I'm talking
We're friends
Overground, watch this space
I'm open to falling from grace
Talk me down
Safe and sound,
Too strung up to sleep
Wear me out
Scream and shout
Swear my time's never cheap
I fake my life like I've lived
Too much,
I take whatever you're given, not enough
Overground, watch this
Space, I'm open
I fake my life like I've lived
Too much,
I take whatever you're given, not enough
Overground, watch this
Space, I'm open
To falling
From grace.

The small town where Corner grew up is Middlesbrough, England, whose famous sons include Chris Rea and Paul Rodgers.
These are from the next town over from me in England, I have no idea how you found this. They were never huge but really popular in the Trip Hop scene
Woah, flashback!
Dis called Trip Hop.
Still a very cool and chill song even 20 years later!
I still listen to Becoming X and Portishead’s Dummy all the time.
It’s very captivating. Her style keeps you glued.
Geez, i remember when this came out in the nineties. my goodness.
This track was for Sunday morning chilling after a hard nights clubbing.
Massive Attack...
Telepopmusik and Morcheeba too.
(squeals with delight)
This song always reminds me of Not an Addict - K’s Choice. Not sure why exactly lol
it's "Trip Hop" there were a few other bands of that genre like Massive Attack, Portishead, Hooverphonic
This is why I love the 90's. The eclectic mix of artists and musicians is only comparable to the 60's. All the other decades of music were certified caca.
The 70's disagree..
I love the 90s but i highly disagree.
@@melod7670 all due respect, aside from disco, funk, smooth jazz, jazz fusion, soul music with a sprinkle of early punk, it does not compare to the wider variation. The 90s had all that plus what you already heard. When I listen to 70's music now, all I hear is Boomer Rock..and I'm a Gen X'er..🤣
@@Abel-Alvarez Agree to disagree.
@@navocar I'm just thinking about Pink Floyd, The Stones, Queen, Led Zeppelin, The Eagles, The Who, and The Grateful Dead among others all being in their prime in the 1970s. That's just my opinion though. That's what is great about music, it's all subjective to your taste.
after midnight highway run windows down, arms making a snake out the window.
Yanked me right back into '95
That voice.
