    Hey, my dad is the drummer on this record!!! He was part of Mr. Price's band for about two years. He always spoke highly of Mr. Price, both as a singer/entertainer, as an employer, and as a person. (My dad's name was Bob Emerson, BTW.)

      I'm glad you made that comment. I was thinking about how subtle the backing instruments are. Especially the drums. I don't know if you are a musician or not, but that is not easy to do. Just from this recording i can tell that your father was an excellent drummer

    The most beautiful yet sad song Kris Kristofferson ever wrote. Ray turns it into the epitome of Countrypolitan Nashville smoothness. Produced by the legendary Don Law, who was the head of Columbia Records Country music division. Law was the man who recorded Robert Johnson's landmark blues sides in Dallas and San Antonio. Love it Craig. Thanks to you and Harri.

    Oh Harri! This was a favorite of my Dads back in the 70s. He's been gone now for over 30 years but hearing this brought me right back to the 70s and riding in the front seat between my parents in the Pontiac Station wagon. I love how music can do that. Another great song he loved and you would too is It's All In The Game by Tommy Edwards. Would love to know what you think. Thanks for the memories Harri. 💜💜💜

      @AgingDrummerBoy-ly1js no. Don't think like that. I was a late in life baby. My brother and sister were 12 and 13 years older. I think my parents took pity on me. If the dog was with us I sat in back with her. But if sadistic Grammy who used to pinch me was with us I got to sit in the front. 😉

    The late Ray Price is one of my favorite singers. He had two singing phases during his career. The first was his "shuffle beat" songs from the '50s and early '60s. They were up-tempo, hardcore country songs like Pride, One More Time, Heart Over Mind, Heartaches By the Number, The Same Old Me, Crazy Arms, Release Me, City Lights, Walkin' Slow, Invitation to the Blues, Under Your Spell Again, My Shoes Keep Walking Back to You.
    In the late '60s and the 1970s, he reinvented himself, becoming more of a crooner with For The Good Times, I Won't Mention It Again, Make the World Go Away, You're the Best Thing That Ever Happened to Me.
    He's a pleasure to listen to.

    this song by ray is from the early 70's i believe. traditional country music was changing. ray wanted to prove to the pop world that he could sing more than just hillbilly. ray price is right behind hank williams and george jones as my favorite. like you said harri don't listen to ray if you are an emotional person , ray 's songs hit very hard. thanks for listening to me harri.

    What a great song. They called this style of music "countrypolitan" (country + metropolitan). It was orchestrated and classy, with one foot in country music and the other in the crooner style of Sinatra and Dean Martin (and you called it Harri, Martin did indeed cover this song). Other countrypolitan singers included Eddy Arnold, Jim Reeves, Charlie Rich, and Charley Pride. Some of them would perform on stage in tuxedos with shiny cowboy boots and bolo ties.

  • @wraithconscience
    @wraithconscience 4 місяці тому

    Love the videos. Actually, this is not in the style of the crooners. This is country music. Ray Price epitomizes the true "country gentleman" tradition in romantic and often sad love songs in country music. "For The Good Times" is one of the defining songs of this genre and Ray Price is the master. Jim Reeves (hauntingly beautiful voice) was the other great master of this genre, with "Make The World Go Away", "He'll Have To Go" and "Welcome To My World". The "crooners" as I call them are all wonderful, but they never attempt, reach or show this level of pathos, sadness, pain, and yet, fortitude. Even in the face of devastating, heart-breaking betrayal, they remain the kind and gracious country gentleman -- as real men should be! A VERY rare quality, unheard of today! Manly strength combined with gentlemanly elegance at its best! Check out the Jim Reeves songs. Listen again and God bless!
