I was not particularly interested in this game, it looks dull and boring. Then the destination wheel appeared in the review and turned whatever interest I had for the into dislike. Who thought that was a good idea? A random chance of progression? Why?
The original Chibi-Robo was a fun an quirky game that was chock full of charm and originally. I was sad when they decided to make his next game a platformer because... that's just not what he is.
However, if it was good, I would be willing to overlook that. I'm pissed that this game looks (and apparently is) nothing special and now the franchise is most likely going die off. :(

THIS GAME BLOWS!
Is it just me or was this game made simply to turn Chibi-Robo into a viable smash character?
+Steven Cenname Considering everything they said... f*** no. They wanted to try something drastically different to save the franchise from death. Smash was last thing on their minds with this game.
+Steven Cenname your wish is granted: mcleodgaming.com/games.php
+JaidynReiman The problem is though, this will likely make the series death more immanent rather than save it. Making Chibi Robo a by the numbers 2D platformer was suicide, especially when the 3DS already has 4 major 2D platformers from way more popular and recognizable IPs (DCKR 3D, NSMB2, Yoshis New Island, Kirby Triple Deluxe) and tons of better, more creative indie platformers. Taking away the quirky uniqueness of Chibi Robo is basically signing its death warrant. Cos thats what made the series unique and even somewhat relevant. A place in Smash honestly is more likely to save the series from death than Zip Lash will.
*****
The problem is that what made the series unique WASN'T WORKING. 2D platformers can get pretty basic and simplistic, But they're easy to get into and are very popular as well. Even though Yoshi's New Island was a critical failure, it still sold over 1m copies.
I do think it was a mistake for them to make it into a 2D platformer. I don't think it'll be that successful. However, I certainly don't think it'll make the series death "more imminent" because 2D platformers actually sell pretty well generally. And since it comes bundled with an Amiibo, honestly, I don't think this game will utterly fail.
I don't think it'll do that well, but it'll probably at least sell as well as the original Chibi-Robo I think.
JaidynReiman Well sure it'll sell better than the original because the 3DS has sold over double and almost triple the amount of Gamecubes so that'll help it. But I still think that it being 2D platformer wont help it be revived as a series. Sure they're popular, but mostly when they're either from very popular series like Mario, Kirby or Yoshi, or cheap indies games with a lot of creativity. Chibi Robo Zip Lash is neither of these. I feel as if the best chance it had was being a 3D platformer game like it originally was. And in such a time of drought when it comes to 3D platformers, it would probably have stood out more and been more appealing. But in the end, its advertising that will kill it cos it has been almost non existent.
welcome to the darkest age of nintendo

You know if nintendo really wanted to save this franchise they would have made a remastered of chibi robo plug into
adventure for the wii u instead of making an everyday 2D side scrollers.......just saying.
+Helmslock Thing is, though, that didn't sell very well. A remaster probably wouldn't, either. They're trying to find a place for the franchise to fit by trying something new.
Clucknadus
the only reason why chibi robo plug into
adventure didn't sell very well is because nintendo didn't advertised on tv the only reason why I know chibi robo is because I seen random clips of it on youtube when I was young.
I agree 100% i wanted a remaster of the original chibi robo, something about it I just fell in love with it, finding new upgrades doing quests, it was amazing. It sort of had a "wind waker" feel to it also in its personality. So I agree while nintendo is known for sidescrollers they should have just done a sequel to THAT game

Welp, Chibi-robos screwed. RIP.
Hey all, Scott here! I'm watching UA-cam today, specifically review for chibi robo ziplash! Just wanna see what people think about this game. (sees this video) oh look, here's one! ( watches video and sees it's mostly positive)!!
Scott : AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!
I just bought the game for the amiibo, but I didn't know I would actually like the game. Its pretty good for a quick platformer you might want to play when you have spare time.
Oh chibi-robo,how I love your desing
Cant wait to try it out for myself. Its been awhile since Ive played Chibi-Robo. Happy to be back with him soon.
I love Chibi Robo, I love cute games, and this one is adorable.
Forcing players to put up with a spinner multiple times to complete a world? Forcing them to repeat levels to get another shot at landing where they want? Whose idea was that, and why haven't they had a stern lecture yet?
See this is a problem I have with Nintendo currently. Is that they're trying to make more and more bankable 2D platformers rather than experimenting with 3D platfomers. Chibi Robo was basically a dead series anyway, but this will probably kill it off for good by making it a standard 2D platformer instead of keeping it to its 3D roots. Cos lets be honest, Nintendo has enough 2D platformer series as it is. Theres many better looking, better playing and more original 2D platformers made by indies that are much cheaper than Zip Lash. I'd be very surprised if this doesnt fail and kill off the series for good.
Am I the only one who wants to see Nintendo do more stuff with their 2D platformer franchises? Like making them 3D platformers. I mean I'd love to see an actual 3D Kirby game, a 3D Yoshi (heck they made the menus for Wolly World 3D. Why they did this for a 2D platformer I'll never know?) and another 3D Donkey Kong. The only 3D platformer they've had in the last 3 years has been 3D World and even that was designed more like a 2D platformer. I dont know if its laziness, or a lack of ideas, or a lack of faith in selling power, but I can tell you right now, the lack of 3D platformers from Nintendo recently has not been due to cost since Nintendo are sitting on a pile of cash right now and will probably get even more from Amiibo sales alone.
And these are 3D platformers that COULD be profitable because of the IP. Only Nintendo IPs have that selling power at the moment for 3D platformers. Its why theres been a huge lack of 3D platformers in the last decade because they started to go out due to the popularity of other genres like FPS's and the revival of 2D platformers. Otherwise we likely would have seen another 3D platformer in the Banjo Kazooie, Rayman, Crash, Spyro and Megaman series by now.
I hope we see more 3D platformers return from Nintendo cos this is the 5th 2D platformer developed by Nintendo to be released this year alone. And I mean a 3D platformer OTHER than Mario. Cos we get one of those every 3 or 4 years. Not every platformer has be in 3D, but at least some games. The closest thing we've had to a Nintendo 3D platformer this year has been Splatoon and thats a TPS. Actually, thinking of 3D platformers that need a comeback that have shooting in them...Metroid...(and no Federation Force does not count, its a spin off). I just hope Yooka Laylee can somehow bring the genre back cos other than Ratchet & Clank PS4, thats the only major 3D platformer I can see on the horizon.
+ZantofDarkness I would give it some time, now that they've got a new president who has a lot of experience with the western market unlike anyone else at nintendo japan as it seems, things might actually change... seeing as he predicted the wii u to fail and having moved the executives around shows that he has a lot of understanding of what needs to be done next
+ZantofDarkness Technically they did make a 3D Kirby game, Kirby Airride. It wasn't a 3d platformer but it was a pretty damn fun kirby game that was sadly under appreciated when it came out because it was "too different". If anything I'd rather have another Kirby Airride because it makes sense.
Antonio Tunjic I dont doubt that (although I want to actually see what he does before saying he'll fix things). But Miyamoto is in charge of development at the moment and considering how much he wants to push innovation for innovations sake rather than just making really good games, thats what worries me about future titles. Innovation is great and all, but for series that are starving for a new game and slowly being forgotten, like Star Fox and Metroid, the worst thing you can do is completely change up the formula years after the last one. The best thing would be to build on the past formula that worked and make the best game of that to draw people back in and then after that game, start innovating and changing a few things up.
TheAntagonistGreen I said a proper 3D Kirby game as in a proper 3D platformer. Airride to me doesnt count as a 3D platformer cos its a racer. And I agree it was very good and I would also like to see a sequel. But I'm asking for a 3D platformer. Cos Kirby to me has started to become a bit redundant with each new game feeling less original. Triple Deluxe and Rainbow Curse were fine games, but Triple Deluxe was just a really good 2D kirby game rather than anything new, and Rainbow Curse was basically a sequel to Canvas Curse with not much new in it and basically used the same concept to take advantage of the gamepad. A 3D game like a collectathon I think could work really well with Kirby and they could do so many cool things with that.
+ZantofDarkness I have no problem with more 2D platformers...I think we need more of both 2D AND 3D games, especially in the Metroid & Mario franchises ( I prefer the 2D Metroid games to the Primes & Other M ). I think Nintendo's problem ( aside from availability issues with Amiibo ) is their obsession with lame gimmicks. When I play Zelda, I want to explore, kill monsters, solve PUZZLES and do all that using traditional controls; unfortunately, the DS games are purely stylus controlled ( and don't get me started on everything else wrong with Spirit Tracks ), Skyward Sword is all motion controls ( among other things that made me give up playing that POS ) and they love to cram in crap like forced stealth and lame tear collecting sections that frankly feel like pointless padding. Paper Mario Sticker Star ended up with combat being a pointless resource waste ( no XP, no allies...it just didn't feel like Paper Mario. Even Super Paper Mario felt more accurate to the name ). Other M....worst controls ever, and poorly thought out story. gyro controls get shoehorned into everything.....
That said, I still can't wait to play Zip Lash as I love Chibi-Robo ( 3rd fave Nintendo franchise after Xenoblade and my #1, EarthBound/Mother )...I also actually WANT Federation Force as I think it looks like it might be fun ( and a spin-off is better than nothing IMO... )
This is some good Gex
Nintendo: "Let's revive Chibi robo! Although if it fails, this may be his last chance."
*Makes generic brand 2D Platformer with bad mechanics*

Chibi Robo's problem is that the games jump all over the place genre-wise, and Nintendo don't publicise it enough.

@@BrandonSmith-xp6mt Gex?
The problem with this game is that, just like Federation Force, Nintendo is trying to make the series known among players who didn't care for or had yet to try those game by showing them an experience that doesn't resemble even the basic core aspects of their original series. What they don't realize, though, is that the reason why those series didn't sell as expected is because they both lacked market and availability!
Aside from Other M, I had never seen a single ad for Metroid! The only ad I'd seen was from UA-cam, after I went out of my way to search for it, and even so it wasn't even on the company's official channel (at the time, it was Corruption)! And that was 2 years after the game had been launched! Take in consideration Other M and the massive marketing it received - according to an interview, Other M had sold 1 million copies by the time of release; I've played the game to start to end, and I can say it sold 500 thousand copies more than it should have, and you can thank marketing alone for that!
As for Chibi-Robo, I have never seen any ads for it. Period! I used to buy a gaming magazine called Nintendo World (it's an official magazine recognized by Nintendo, but is by no means directly in contact with the company), and that's where I first heard about the series. If not for that magazine, I would have never known about it!
As for availability, I've never seen any of those games being sold where I live! Granted, I live in Brazil, a country that Nintendo just stopped working with, but even during the SNES era or the Wii era, two eras where Nintendo reigned above all, there was nothing! No ads on TV, no games available in my region, Nintendo barely did anything to make those two series known by the general public!
Neither Chibi-Robo nor Metroid need those spin-offs/crap/whatever-you-decide-to-call-those-uncanney-titles! If Nintendo wants to get more people to play those series, just make the games those series are known for and advertise them as much as they advertise Mario and Zelda!
+TwilightWolf032 Er, wth are you talking about? Chibi-Robo has lifetime sales of about 700k. It hasn't even broke 1m TOTAL. The ONLY Metroid games that haven't broken 1m are Hunters (game wasn't considered that great), Zero Mission, and Prime Trilogy (probably because by this point most people already had the trilogy).
Metroid is in a slump because Other M was critically panned by everyone and they're having problems figuring out what to do with the franchise, not that it sold bad (it is the fourth worst selling Metroid, though, at only 1.1m).
Metroid is more niche than some of other Nintendo franchises, but even then they don't sell badly.
If you want to look at a franchise that died due to low sales look at F-Zero. The first game was around 3m, but the next highest is 1.1m, then 1.0, and finally 650k for GX. By that point they just didn't even bother.
I'm shocked Chibi-Robo is still around when its highest single-game sales were 350k or so.
*****
Ah, ok, didn't know it was a Collector's Edition. Anyway, I wasn't even saying the numbers meant anything; it was a rerelease a lot of people already had, so low sales numbers didn't really mean anything in regards to that one. And Zero Mission was a remake, so the only real "new" Metroid game that sold under 1m was Hunters (which wasn't that well liked anyway and wasn't entirely true to classic Metroid formula either).
My point is that Metroid is a horrible comparison to Chibi-Robo. Right now they're confused on what direction to take the franchise in, but its not getting a spinoff because of poor sales.
JaidynReiman "Right now they're confused on what direction to take the franchise in, but its not getting a spinoff because of poor sales."
Actually, that's not true. You can see here why: mynintendonews.com/2015/09/30/nintendo-says-chibi-robo-zip-lash-might-be-chibi-robos-last-chance/
Metroid is in a similar position. Even though it sells over 1 million, it doesn't sell as much as Zelda or Mario, and that's why there aren't as many entries in the series. But either way, after the flop Other M was within the Metroid fanbase, it seems Nintendo doesn't know what to do with the franchise, hence Federation Forces.
TwilightWolf032
It doesn't sell as much as Zelda or Metroid, but its not in an awful position like Chibi-Robo where it barely sells at all. Even the weakest selling Metroid games have sold more than the entirety of the Chibi-Robo franchise.
That does mean the series doesn't get as high priority, but the series isn't on death's row right now.
+TwilightWolf032 The problem with Other M though is that it STILL sold less than Nintendos expectations thus being a failure, commercially, critically and for fans, and so that meant putting the series on hiatus for a while. So even with the huge marketing campaign of Other M, it still wasnt enough. And that I believe was mainly down to the casual audience of the Wii that had by that point stopped playing and moved onto other things. But also just cos Other M still had very little presence when it came to advertising compared to other huge franchises at the time like say CoD, Battlefield or Assassins Creed. Nintendo really need to learn how to advertise their games in the west better cos other than Mario (that is super easy to advertise), they have done very poorly with most other franchises (although Zelda gets sold no matter what, and Splatoon was an improvement when it came to advertising).
Star Fox Zero I expect to have the same issues as Metroid and Chibi Robo have when it comes to advertising the game. Mainly because of Miyamotos need to make it 1. Like 64 and 2. Innovative when really it should stick to traditional SF gameplay with the normal button layout, and ambitious visuals and story. The best thing for dead franchises like this is to reintroduce them with appealing familiar gameplay and visuals for gamers, rather than trying to appeal to the non gamer masses as well as trying to completely change the formula. Nintendo has lost that casual audience. They need to learn that and get back to making games designed more for the hardcore gamer than the casual/non gamer now. To be honest, the new Star Wars Battlefront seems to play more like a traditional Star Fox game than Zero does. And I've tried Zero out and didnt like it, before you ask.
Fire Emblem revived itself perfectly. Sure there are a few hardcore FE fans who are as stubborn as mules when it comes to some of the additions, but it saved the series while still keeping the formula the same. And its advertising made the series arguably Nintendos 5th most popular after Mario, Zelda, Pokemon and Animal Crossing. And keep in mind this is a series that was considered "niche" before 2013.
Xenoblade X I fear for as well considering the lack of hype and advertising surrounding that amazing looking game. Its been almost non existent for the last few months and I think that may be due to the fact that its been almost 3 years since it was revealed but also cos of it being a JRPG. But yet again, FFXV and Persona 5 have a lot of advertising power and hype behind them. And FFXV as a game has been in development for over a decade at this point. So again I believe its a matter of poor advertising from Nintendo. And trust me, I live in the UK, the biggest gaming market in Europe and even here, Nintendos presence is minuscule compared to Sony or Microsoft. Again, their advertising is to blame for that. I swear that the head of the marketing teams at Nintendo should be fired now.
Seems like a fun little platformer that can waste some time. Mostly getting it for the amiibo though.
Gex amiibo
I finally put my finger on what was wrong for the gameplay for me: It's a poor man's Yoshi's Island, but with a grappling hook instead of projectiles (eggs). However, Yoshi's Island has that spontaneity, that sense you're always moving, the ability to shoot eggs on the fly, and exciting level design which constantly played with the game mechanics. This feels like a much slower, much more limited, much more by the numbers version of that, except with a grappling hook that's never used to its full potential.
Originally came here just because I was about to buy this second hand with the amiibo for 35$ as I was a huge chibirobo fan when I was younger, but I ended up watching a few of your videos instead. OJorgeO It's going to sell at the very least because of the amiibo.
OJorgeO Fans of the original loved it, Don't patronize a new idea. MGS:GZ and 5 are open-world, which is different from the prior Metal Gear games.
That Destination Spinner is so bad. I'm still hoping to buy this. It has its problems, but I doubt that Chibi-Robo will die here.
This aged poorly
It has so many types of candy from AROUND THE GLOBE!
This is like Animal Crossing Amiibo Festival at Scott Wozaoski's house - Gex
Ehh... I really had high hopes for this game, as I'm really into platformers. Looks like my dreams were crushed :(
Aliens that invade and take our resources, so pikmin.
Question tho, what does the amiibo do?
