- After the release of Photo Finder on the Nintendo 3DS, Chibi-Robo was in a pretty awkward situation. The series had been around for almost a decade, but only saw a steady decline in terms of sales with each new entry. Because of this, things weren’t looking too great for the studio behind Chibi Robo, Skip Ltd. However, they weren’t ready to give up just yet. Because, in 2015 they’d bet everything on one final game: Chibi-Robo Zip-Lash.

It could work. The Kid Icarus series was basically reignited by Smash Bros Brawl and the same could happen with Chibi Robo.

My First game was Photo Finder. I think Chibi-Robo can be magical to newer players like I was when I first got the game (when I was 9 or 10) The worlds felt so unique, and then characters, while pretty out-there in design, really looked cool! Now that I'm a bit older I can definitely see that while Chibi-Robo had some fascinating and unique ideas, it ultimately just fell flat due to being mishandled. I also own Zip Lash, and I feel really inspired to play it right now! When the game was first revealed I definitely recall a lot of people online just being "ew, a 2D Chibi-Robo? Disgusting." Back then it really hurt to see my at the time arguably favourite video game series just be pelted with hate. I wanted to love Zip Lash so much, it looked distinct from the other Chibi-Robo that I knew of. It looked... fantastical.
Now I just live my average life, wishing I had the cash to play other games in the series on actual home consoles (haha poor). I really wish Nintendo were to have handled the franchise a lot better but oh well. Definitely the main reason for death though, and I'll be quoting Scott the Woz here, "died due to a lack of focus."

I actually bought this game on amazon for a dollar. GOD, THAT IS PROOF THAT THIS GAME IS NOT WORTH 30 TIMES THE MONEY IT’S WORTH.

I’d argue that the move to a 2d platformer was actually super risky. Skip had no experience doing one (probably a big reason for some of the weirder design choices you pointed out.... destination wheel;; ). And if ZL had done well, wouldnt that still be the end of the games Chibi Robo fans loved? Idk if the platformer fans would stay on for another, more unique title...?
I think you’re spot on with the future of skip and Chibi Robo. I kinda hope nintendo takes the lead with revamping the little guy. Even if it’s not quite the formula of the original and clean sweep, I really want to see what they’d do!!
My words exactly. The og is amazing and when I play it on an emulator it's amazing! Clean Sweep has an amazing plot (not as good as the og) and the graphics are prolly bad but in HD I can see it and the og being successful. They could never botch the launch as bad as the rest...
Edit: I use a Dolphin upscaler on the og and its beautiful!

Plug Into Adventure was under-marketed, Park Patrol was under-distributed, Clean Sweep was under-localized, Photo Finder was under-developed, and Zip Lash was under-developed.
PIA: good game, undermarketed. ZL: bad game, marketed well (in comparison to previous titles)
Park Patrol was only sold at a store that only sells hoses.

Such a shame about how the Chibi-Robo games fizzled out, as I've always been so interested in playing the first one, but the inflated price prevents me from doing that. And I'm really tempted to buy Zip Lash beause of its cheap price, but it is kinda sad that the amiibo is more expensive than the actual game.
You could always emulate the first game? I know piracy is a no-no, but at this point, skip doesn't profit from the game anymore.... heck, they only profit from let's go photo and zip lash. so, you wouldn't be hurting them by downloading it online. in fact, buying it online just sends the money to some random person who had no involvement with the game's development whatsoever.
@@jimsyfool4335 I emulate it on dolphin and its beautiful everyone should do that because it only benefits everybody. Collectors because if everyone emulates it won't be in high demand therefore less expensive, developers will be happy because they are gaining popularity and not losing money, and ur happy cuz ur playing it!
Zip Lash being mostly developed by Vanpool showed how dire things were getting for Skip. They couldn't even make a relatively simple platformer by themselves at that point so, I kind of figured they would close shop soon enough. Sad that so many late 90s/ early 00s Japanese devs can't survive in this market

Skip should have just re-released the first Chibi-Robo game. That would have made them far more money.
The tale of chibi-robo is a sad one, i hope they give it another chance but I don’t think that’s gonna happen.

I wish Chibi-Robo suceeds some day, this series has so much potential and it pains me to see Nintendo never realized that. This guy should it been in Brawl, should've had a Wii port worldwise, should be recognized elsewhere, but instead, Zip-Lash killed the series. Now the series is on a state of limbo as the development of Metroid Prime 4 and who knows if Nintendo can give the little robot a proper chance on the hall of fame, after all, it deserves it.

The problem with this game was coming out in the 3DS, which was full of 2.5D platformers. Mario, Metroid, Kirby, etc. They should have kept the traditional gameplay or released on Switch
I forgot all about this game. Never played any of them and that wheel of destination would annoy me easily.

This game could of been a classic on the 3ds. Instead it was just a ok to mediocre game that once you beat it, never touch it again.
