Me too. Isn't it ironic the best times were back there. We knew it hence why we lived what we did but we also knew it wasn't going to last. Celebrate you did, I did, all Gen x did. Rock on!
The last verse is incredibly painful and relatable. Just pure emotion and the pain of love failure. One of the greatest songs ever written and musically composed too. Everyone thinks of Scorpions when it comes to break up ballads, but this is right up there. Also, CC making his guitar sing. It’s like a second voice.
To see such positive responses to these songs from the 80's by 20 year olds only validates just how good our music was in our teens. Alway enjoy seeing these reactions.
Reading the back story on this song. It's personal to Brett. He was on tour and found out his woman was cheating with someone from another band. Was told writing a ballad at that time would fail. But the emotional breakup song was made and became the iconic hit. Timeless song.
Who would have lied to him that a ballad would fail? By the time this came out it was already a hard and fast rule from the record companies that the 1st single off an album was a rock song and the 2nd single was a ballad.
@@donbergeson6771 Nevertheless, he is right. Upper management didn't like the song and didn't see it as a hit. Brett and his band mate's liked it and wanted it on the record. They won out, and the rest is history
I feel like you need to follow this up with Don't Know What You Got (Til It's Gone) by Cinderella. Another powerful 80's power ballad/love song. A lot of these hair metal bands don't get the credit they deserve. It's not all cheese ball 😛
I got this Album at home , it is normal Hard Rock from the 80 , but i listen 2024 as a 56 years old Metalhead all kind if Rock / Metal = Heavy Metal is the Best Music on this Planet ! My start as a Metalhead was 1980 with 13 years
I saw them live at Madison Square Garden when Brett Michaels collapsed on stage. Immediately the drug addict stories started. Not long after the world found out he is an insulin dependent Diabetic. The day he collapsed he had been sick and did not eat or drink much causing his blood sugar to drop dangerously low. Today he is a huge spokesperson for the American Diabetes Association.
The plaintive cry of CC's guitar combined with Brett's vocals. THis is a song where the fact that the singer does not have the best voice in the world works out for the song. Its a voice that feels more relatable as do the lyrics.
Man I miss the 80s! Seeing this young generation listening to them, makes it even sadder! Sometimes we take great music for granted! Poison had some of the best power ballads. And this one is no exception!👉❤️🔥🎸🤟🤘great reaction young lady!🙏
Poison got a lot of crap for being as successful as they were in the 80's and early 90's... but they were a fun, energetic rock band that did not deserve that contempt... Some of Poison's other hits - 'Unskinny bop' ... 'Something to believe in' ... 'Ride the wind' ... "I won't forget you"... 🤘🤘🔥 'Every rose has its thorn' was written by Bret Michaels (lead vocals) after a relationship went kaput when he discovered that she was allegedly seeing someone else. Bands from the 80's like Warrant... L.A. Guns ... Kix ... Tesla ... Dokken... like Poison, offered some great music and entertaining live shows.
Insight on the era, loved Poison...then Guns n Roses were winning over popularity of the big hair bands (as they were also called)..then Pearl Jam and bands like Stone Temple Pilots killed glam rock overnight. Poison reformed in the 2000's ,.. singer Bret Michaels had a successful reality show based on looking for a wife, in a mansion with 10 or twenties girls looking for that ring. Saw them them in Indianapolis and my friend knew the drummer so we talked to him alone in the band room before the concert. Well rounded super nice guy. After the show word of mouth in the parking lot we heard guitarist C.C. DeVille has his own band, playing a small town nearby at a pizza bar on a small main street Indiana. We found the town luckily (before gps ) ,CC played a free show and after asked everyone to sit down and he spoke of his recovery and heartfelt asked ppl to avoid hard drugs and how he is so happy to be alive....then he took pics with everyone and shook hands with everybody. Was truly a triple decker night of music with inspiration tossed in by Mr DeVille 😁
Poison had some awesome hits! People rag on them but they made their mark in music. Guitarist CC Deville (hugest blond hair) has a degree in music from some Ivy League school. One of his professors told him he was wasting his talents playing rock music. Teachers aren't always right. Also check out the official video for Nothin' But A Good Time, another absolute fire breather from Poison. In that one CC is playing many guitars, but the neon pink, Japanese built, Jackson Soloist is a f**king holy grail guitar in guitar circles. Very very cool!!!
The rose having thorns phrase existed long before this group existed. One of those “old school” phrases. The meaning even way back then was exactly as Poison used it and you thought it to mean.
Brett was on tour when he called home to his girlfriend. She answered the phone he heard another man in the background. Brett hung up heartbroken and never spoke to the girl again. And wrote this song.
If I recall, "standard practice" at the time was the third single was the ballad. So, even if it's a band's first album (this was from their second), they'd be touring a lot at the time. Adding the conert and backstage footage seemed sensible and common enough.
also could be taken as.....(coming from a road dog that toured with a bunch of these guys) Not only about the relationship that was left behind...but the toll it took on them, their bodies, their souls.....just in this video ...yeah great time! they were on tour (the rose) but you see at one point , all of them being picked up and carried off stage (the thorn) so it has two meanings in all leaving the one you love , for a life on the road.....and the total exhaustion of being on said road. And Brett is still going strong to this day has seen him at his best, and worst, but always comes back for more!
You actually have a good point on that because when you really care for somebody you really show your emotion to that I think Brett Michaels because I know that's his name that's the lead singer to poison he was writing a song I think mostly about what Love can represent like a rose as well as to people in life so I think when he made this video in the 80s when he was younger he was trying to put a reference that when you really love somebody sometimes love to be so hard to understand when you are really in love with someone and you show your emotions to that person even when you're making love to somebody because that's how life is I understand a lot of this because I've lived that life so the thing is love is just like a rose that means so much in life so I'm not trying to make it into a personal thing I'm just trying to use there's a lot to learn in life about love when you really how does strong bond but that person so I think that's why Bret Michaels was trying to put in this music video also
When he says, " yeah it does," it just past his video and whoever misses that soul message, never ever heard him sing this song. Funny it came from a band named, " poison."

Still love this song.. this does bring back tough memories for me personally and believe its based on his own(Brett) relationships. One of my fav song by them is 'Something To Believe In'.. which i believed you already reacted to and probably I am watching right now.. Hehe..
Once again that's another good question because sometimes when you love somebody can you play with somebody for so long and then you really didn't know that person really well about him or her and sometimes when you're in a relationship you just don't know how to hurt your relationship back in place when you think that you know the person really well and then they always have a dark secret to hide from her or him relationships are so confusing sometimes because it confuses you so badly in life but if you really love somebody really really much then that Bond glasses with you forever it's hard to know love really works you and your partner believe me I know😊
Love can hurt so much sometimes, it leaves a scar for life. Maybe you did some other songs by Poison but here's a little list of songs you could react to. Love songs like Life Goes On, Until You Suffer Some, Theatre Of My Soul, I Won't Forget You and the beautiful Something To Believe in wich is not really a love song but it's a ballad, some more rocking songs like Talk Dirty To Me, Nothing But A Good Time, Fallin' Angel, Ride The Wind, Look What The Cat Dragged In, So Tell Me Why, Stand, I Want Action.
One of my all day time favorite ballads from a band not enough folks take seriously. Hey, could you react to some Cheap Trick? Maybe The Flame if you want another classic ballad, or anything from their live at Budokan show. California Man or Downed, Ain't That a Shame, etc.
1993 me and brothers were at a party where everyone there crashed and me and girlfriend slept on pull out bed and I had long hair "80s" style and my girl had hair like chick with Bret and out of blue a dude walked through living room and said wtf is this a looks like poison video miss those days and being 16 years old

Now that I’m an old guy, I’ll confess to being a goof when I was very young. I had a band and we did do some (pretty lousy) original material that I wrote. She was more into pop music and didn’t listen to rock stations on the radio. I felt kinda dumb afterward because she’d find out that I didn’t, some months later. Well, she knew a little sooner than that, but didn’t say anything and she didn’t hate me for it. She liked that I was trying to impress her. But I’ll say that she’s a liar, too.
