Yeah, what a great run! I completely agree that this map is the hardest so far. The length makes it way worse, plus the fact that the horrible secret is at the very end... it's just so easy for the pain elemental to not cooperate and waste 10 minutes of your time. And wow... thank you so much for the unexpected shoutout at the end, it caught me completely off guard. I can't describe how it made me feel, but my face was beaming throughout the whole outro. I bet it takes a lot of discipline to have to re-give this level of commentary on a map that takes so many attempts. I'd get hella cranky after 1 or 2.
I do like Industrial Zone within the city levels (which unfortunately the part where I drop Doom 2 bc it's draggy and didn't date well) maybe it's the layout and Running from Evil being reused in this Map (I heard the latter third is worse but I didn't get that far, I must put myself to complete Doom 2 fully someday) Good luck with the second half and secret levels Decino
Thank you Decino for another stunning video. The thing that makes my teeth itch, though, is that, although you have an enemy kill count that is higher than the number of enemies, you don't actually have 100% of all of the monsters killed, as some of them are counted more than once due to respawns. I don't think it's possible for doom to count the number of monsters killed that were placed by the map maker?
@8:35 -- As referenced in "Explosions 💥", there is no vertical limit for rocket splash damage! Also remember that explosions are square shaped in the Doom World, NOT spherical or even cylindrical.
This came out much faster than I expected, and with an incredibly smooth run to boot! Also I never expected to learn a few more things I didn't know in a single vid (0:22, 2:55, 6:32). Really nice to have this to watch at the end of day.
Completely agree with you that there's ZERO chance that this secret was deliberate. I love John Romero, but nope. That secret being screwed up was a fluke. A mistake. Not even for a moment do i believe it was intentional. That is just ridiculous.
I hate this map so much, easily Romero's worst map in my view, hopefully having to listen to D_RUNNIN on repeat for that long wasn't too much torture to your ears.
He has a full video on these broken secrets somewhere, but iirc the basic version is the teleporter itself is marked as a secret, but normal movement will teleport you before tagging the secret.
