    Thank you PJ. I was able to design both chains. What I didn't get is why you can't 3d print them? If the individual pieces are not touching each other I believe it's a printable model no?
    Thanks again, great tutorial. Amazing job

    • @PJChenJewelryDesign
      @PJChenJewelryDesign  6 років тому

      You are right, you can print them technically. it just economically makes sense to have machine made. You can find a lot of videos on youtube about chain manufacturing process to get the idea of chain making. However, if you plan to make a thick bracelet. You will need to 3d print and cast them.

    • @jovenalpay
      @jovenalpay 6 років тому

      Ok, sounds great, I'm going to take a look at those chain machines. As you can see, I'm not on jewelry business. I'm just a hobbiest maker with a 3d printer.. ☺️

    • @PJChenJewelryDesign
      @PJChenJewelryDesign  Рік тому +1

      You can make it hollow in CAD but not for casting production. many of the hollow link are done by machining not metal casting.

  • @johnnym8rix

    Great video thanks PJ. If you were to print and cast, How would you sprue it up? Would you sprue several links already connected? I have an eighty gram nine karat chain to make. I read comments below. Would you make each link separate and then join?

    • @PJChenJewelryDesign
      @PJChenJewelryDesign  5 років тому +2

      Just checked with my casting vendor to double make sure. for the big heavy chain, they suggests to cast them desperately but one link open and the other one is close. after polish you can assemblage together.

    • @PJChenJewelryDesign

      @leowright7515 6 років тому +1

      Thank you. One other question please. I’ve only seen the flow along surface command done on rings so far. Because rings have a surface to apply the command to, and in this case, a Cuban link does not have that surface. what would I use as a surface when using the command.

    • @PJChenJewelryDesign
      @PJChenJewelryDesign  6 років тому +1

      you can create a circle. then extrude surface. then create UV curve from that surface. After that, you will get a rectangle on CPlane. make it into a surface. place the cuban link on it. and flow along surface back to the original surface.
