what a nonsense short filme😡
Yeah its satirical
Oh my god!! The Emus are on UA-cam now!
Pin of shame
This is an amazing film
It's absurd humour but it wasn't too bad.
If you are a foreigner in Australia, this movie is a crash course about all things Australian. Except for the drop bears, but I guess you wanted to keep it family-friendly.
Drop Bears are more of a cerebral thriller kind of aesthetic, maybe for the sequel
What about the gun ban
hubo oso en las guerra del emú
We don’t talk about the dropbears
Don't tell the foreigners about the drop bears until they get here, it's funnier.

Well, before 1939 Europe was and most of the world was very optimistic. The economic depressions were being left behind and the third positionist governments were leading the way into a better age.

One of the greatest war movies I've ever seen, worthy to be mentioned in the same breath as A Bridge Too Far, Apocalypse Now, and Platoon.
yea they were all really realisistic films ngl totally
Enemy at the Gates.
One of those movies is good.
What I remember about the rise of the Great Emu Empire is... is how quiet it was. During the waning hours of the Emu Wars, the Emu Legion was discreetly transferred back to Sydney. It was a silent trip. We all knew what was about to happen, what we were about to do. Did we have any doubts? Any private, traitorous thoughts? Perhaps, but no one said a word. Not on the flight to Sydney, not when The order came down, and not when we marched into the Opera House. Not a word."

God. The original Star Wars Battlefront 2 is such a good game.
I fought in the "Rat Rebellion" in Detroit in '77. Like the Great Emu War it has been largely forgotten and erased from history. And, like the proud Australians who served, the men who put down this gnarly uprising in Detroit are largely ignored, the civilian population viewing it as, "animal genocide". We were called, we stood together as men and stopped Detroit from becoming a scavenger-ridden hellhole.
"stopped Detroit from becoming a scavenger-ridden hellhole."
Won the battle, lost the war, evidently. 😆
@N Velsen 😂 I was going to say the *same* thing.
The whole situation sounds like Vietnam when you don't disclose that they were fighting rats.
"We entered their territory, they were around every corner, we'd hear them every once in awhile, we'd see 1 or 2, but the shadows are filled with them.. and the longer we stayed at war, the more they got to join their cause.. it was a losing fight from the very start."
Worry not: the torch still burns brightly in alberta!
Still is tho.

They posted the trailer on 1st of April...yet they still did it. Madlads. Have my respect.
I am currently writing a research paper on this movie for history class. So I can now officially say I am watching it for homework.
We'd love a chance to read it once it's done!
@@FlightlessFilms Ok! it’s due Feb 2nd so it’ll be done by then :)

My new wife (married 2 weeks ago yesterday) and I watched it last night before bed. We got a good laugh out of it and she got a kick when I showed her the actual war. At least......what the Emus allow us to know.
genuinely one of the greatest indie period pieces ive ever seen, and funnier than most of the comedies in recent years, absolutely brilliant work
you did it you absolute mad men you did it
So excited to have been a part of this. I'm Donald, btw. Love how it turned out :)

CRIMINALLY underrated. This masterpiece deserves a lot more
*This Film is dedicated to the brave Emu Fighters of Australia*
This deserves the same recognition as films such as saving private ryan, apocalypse now, full metal jacket
I like the part with the emus.
This is the longest "short film" I've ever seen, loved every second
According to the Academy (and several others), if it's under 40 minutes, then it's a short. (Others set the bar even longer.)
But yeah, this is still a long one; films tend to avoid the middle ground.
@@tobybartels8426 It's not about how long it is, it's about how you use it.
I hardly ever post comments but this... this is a masterpiece. I found it by accident and my friend and I laughed so hard the writing and effects amazing this definitely deserves some serious attention. Anxiously awaiting the next piece from you guys. Great work!
How can I ever repay you for introducing me to this beautiful film
I showed this to my grandpa, he got a new apartment at Sydney Mental ward! Thank you mate.
Mad Max, The Castle, Romper Stomper, Rabbit Proof Fence... And now, sitting comfortably amongst to the greatest of Austrialian cinema, 1932: The Emu War
I’m not kidding when I say this deserves a reward
this is actually really well done. its a crime how little attention this has
Ask your friends to share it with atleast two of their friends, those friends do the same and eventually video will go viral.
I know right!
I can respect the emu, as they are the only animal to ever win a war.
Absolutely Masterpiece. I never imagined how bloodthirsty emu could be and the horrors those soldiers lived through... and I also didn't know what an emu looked like until now. Hope more people will remember this piece of human history
I led a small squad of emu’s into a small little town in Victoria. My whole squad was killed because the town was surrounded by land mines. RIP to 24th emu squad.
I found out about the Great Emu War from... an evolutionary biologist, of all people... And this short film is absolutely as absurd as I had hoped. Thank you for half an hour of genuine joy and laughter.
This is a classic, a timeless work that will outlast even Shakespeare.
At first I thought the trailer was the end joke but no no our Aussie friends saw it through and I loved it lol.
Most emotionally tension based film ever. Made me cry harder then the death of ellie fredrickson in "UP"
The BF1 kill sound at 7:47 is such a great hidden gem 😂
I didn't even notice it at first lmao
Okay, this is so darn freaking awesome!
The story is good for this short film, the humor is absolutely amazing making me laugh several times, the characters are believable enough while the main character's motivations are believable.
The visual effects are just absolutely magnificent as the emus are used in my opinion almost perfectly considering they are edited into the film while the gun shooting and fighting scene effects are done beautifully. The costumes and practical effects like blood also were done magnificently.
The props used for this film are just amazing looking, all the while the filming locations chosen are basically perfect(besides the Hollywood sign).
The cinematography also was done wonderfully.
The parts I feel are the only bad parts of the whole film are the Hollywood logo at 18:18 and the rolling down the hill starting around 16:00. The Hollywood sign took away my immersion of watching this film because of how it reminded me this is a film as there is no Hollywood sign in rural Australia, where I get the feeling of this taking place. I don't think it would have been too hard to edit it out.
The rolling down the hill part also broke my immersion because it didn't feel like a single roll down the hill, but instead it looked like several different scenes stitched together, along with the fact that the lighting just seemed to change just so slightly during that scene, which further broke the immersion. I understand it is not the easiest to get this kind of scene to look perfect, but still it could have been done better in my opinion.
I would rate this 9.5/10. The film overall is just magnificent and without flaw besides the editing of the two scenes I mentioned. Every single person who did the production and acting of this film did an absolutely amazing job!
Aye. One of the greatest films ever made.
Kinda crazy it only has views in the tens.
Well for people who thought that them saying “based on true story” yes the Emu War did happen and no, nobody died except for emus and it was reported that you had to shoot them 16 or more times to kill one emu
For university, I had to write a review of a recent work of art and I picked this masterpiece.
If you are being serious, we are dying to read this review!

This is the movie of all time. Thank you for telling this forgotten period of history and shedding some light on it
Extremely moving picture. Very much a heartbreaking experience. I felt the pain and dread. Deserves an Emmy
Not an Emmu?!
This is better than any Hollywood film
Technically it is a hollywood film lol 18:19
This was a gruesome war man
What's sadder is the Australians lost
@@Mr_Mistah it was 1932 and the emus are almost bullet proof
This is an absolute work of art. The way that the film rolled out is sure to make any history lover's day. Not many know about the hard fought battle against the emus back in 32 but the ones who do don't dare to speak of the horrid tragedy that had taken place. My heart goes out to the Australian soldiers that fought in this brutal war; they were so incredibly brave. I'm excited for the second part of the short film that will release when it's ready; I'm sure it will amaze me as much as this one did. Good job on this very well made satirical reiteration of one of the most important war written in the books.
One of the greatest historical documentaries I have ever seen.
Forget Battlefield 2042! I want Battlefield: The Great Emu War now!

Good short film! 10/10 very good movie. This should be a movie if it was long
I stumbled onto this from Rob Reacts channel and saw Kyle's comment. Had to jump here and congratulate you all on a fabulous short film! Got the Aussie humour down pat, the accents were the best I've heard from American actors (the Liam character sounded more kiwi which made it funnier in this context) & yes, most of the wildlife does want to kill you. And you used meters, woohoo! 😂 Great writing, fantastic production. Nice touch with the Waltzing Matilda at the end. Bloody brilliant! 👏👏🇦🇺🇦🇺
Probably the most historically accurate war movie ever.!
As someone who was your age and stumbled into making film history, you guys got it and you should keep at it. It’s all about the team though, and that’s why everyone ends up in LA
Love the “Hollywood” sign near the 18:00 mark. Had to be deliberate.
Kyle told me he kept it in on purpose ;)
I'd like a movie about the Emus joining the Allies in 1942. Especially those who joined the RAAF and became flying flightless birds!
Thank you for this, never forget the Emu War
This has no right to be as great as it is
Amazing film, can't wait for the sequel.

For some reason, I still feel like the emus weren't the antagonists.
They were just defending their home
Why isn't this popular?

Here in Canada in Canada we had a war just like this, but with our geese. They were just like the emus but smarter, smaller and harder to hit, faster, and could fly.
It was January 12th 2018
A man by the name of Edward pinesly was walking on the beach of Lake Jonathon, north west of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. When a Canadian Goose knifed Edward in the back, killing him almost instantly, while everybody else started screaming and running from the horrific scene just moments ago.
Eventually the survivors made contact with the Edmonton police department, as well as spread it across social media, and even sent a letter to the Prime Minister. January 15th 2018, the Dominion of Canada declared war on the Canadian geese. January 16th, 3 infantry divisions consisted of a total of 1500 soldiers were sent out from Ontario, Alberta and Nova Scotia to the plains of Stalin, the largest habitat of Canadian geese in Canada. When they got there, they found that the geese have already dug up trenches all across the area so the Canadians did the same. It took a total of 7 hours until the geese realized that the Canadians were already there, it took the Canadians 4 hours and 43 minutes out of that 7 hours to build some trenches. From January 16th 2018 to October 7th 2021, the battle of of the plains of Stalin, or Stalin plains, th battle lasted the entire war. Other battles like the siege of Vancouver, the siege of Montreal, or the battle for the mussolini mountains lasted most of the war as well. Most of the war, battles were fought over open terrain, but there were a few battles that were fought in hills and mountains. By April 24th 2021 the geese have taken the cities of Montreal, Quebec city and New Berlin.( kitchener) As a veteran of this war I will tell you my story: I was sent out from Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, as part of the Royal Victoria riflemen, or the RVR, to the battle of Stalin plains in September 12th 2019. When we got into the trenches, all I could see was blood, sweat, tears, death and shrapnel flying everywhere from the enemy artillery. I spent about one year, just waiting for something to happen.
After a year of hearing nothing but machine-gun fire, artillery and screaming when I am trying ro sleep. On one night on October 2nd 2020, I hear the faint sound of geese yelling when I was about to fall asleep, when I pick up my rifle and step out of my dugout, the sound gets louder as I look beyond the trench, eventually I see movement. After about ten seconds or so, I begin to make out what looks like an entire regiment of geese running at us. I yell to my comrades " the enemy is coming, the enemy is coming, wake up" but it was all too late. The geese have entered our trench, only after the sound of about a dozen soldiers screaming to death as the geese slaughter them with their bayonet fitted rifles and spades, does the rest of the army wake up. I charge after one of the geese, when a artillery shell explodes right between us. Eventually I wake up lying down on the ground covered in blood, when an officer of the Toronto 9th infantry regiment picks me up and asks me " you right there laddie?" I don't respond, he then says, " good news is we won, bad news, we last two thirds of us". I look around, it's the morning, I think to myself " how long have I been knocked out?". By the end of the war, there has been only 72 surviving geese and 3 Canadians left who survived the battle of Stalin plains. I being one of them. October 5th 2021, the geese nuke Toronto, in retaliation the Canadians do the same for all of the goose occupied cities. October 7th, 2021, the goose Supreme leader ( the same one who stabbed Edward) called a meeting with the Prime minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau. The two leaders finally signed peace.
In the end there were 7283 surviving geese, when in the beginning there were 7 million.
In the end there were only 502 surviving Canadians. When in the beginning there were over 28 million.
We almost went extinct.
October 8th 2021, the Canadian government burned all knowledge of this war.
All the knowledge left, was from the survivors.
One of the best conedy-drama films of all time!
