Tedeschi Trucks Band’s Layla Revisited (Live At Lock’n), is a one-off live recording of the seminal Derek & The Dominos album Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs, performed in its entirety with special guest Trey Anastasio. I'm sitting in a truck, up on look out point, sun setting and turning the sky orange, in a small third world country called Wyoming.
As I close my eyes I start to hear the sounds, and feel the spirit, of Duane Allman, emanating from my speakers, filling the cab, as the wind gently blows through. The torch passed, as this groove, this beautiful improvised jam ebbs and flows both in volume and intensity, the leads pouring out of those guitars, only to come back to earth again, with whispers of Clapton coming from Susan's beautiful voice. What a band!!
As the mighty Platte river meanders thru the city the song sits on my heart...."why does love have to be so sad......"
Thank you for this music....
Thank you for this beautiful piece of writing.
I was there for this performance...you stated my sentiments exactly
You really feel it and that´s the best.
beautifully written
Yep
For all us ‘60’s & forward, persons who appreciate good, tight music, TTB is our present day & future in music. Thank goodness!.........
Indeed! What joy - and relief - to have them. 🇬🇧
Derek is just so incredibly amazing that it’s easy to lose sight of how brilliant the entire band is.
I think they try to give everyone their ‘moment in the sun*’ and I like be the variation but nothing beats the slide, although Liz on The Can is pretty epic too!
Yes, but you should see the Dominos....
I just discovered this amazing talented group of musicians only 3 months ago. I now wonder if my life would be different had I found them earlier
Doyle does such a great job as the sideman at this show, he is a real player's player.
I first heard Duane, Greg, Dickie and the Brothers in 1969, when I was 17 years old. And now I feel the most exquisite joy hearing TT carry on, and higher every day. ❤️
I was 7 in 71 and my dad ruined my world by taking me to see The Allman Brothers and Duane died a month later, he opened my mind to such beauty, The Blues and slide guitar
Derek is beyond phenomenal. And Susan, in her spare time, gives singing lessons to angels.
we are very lucky to have them , they really are both awesome, together even better
I once heard "I could listen to hours of Susan singing the phone book"
I like the way trey looks at Derrick, kinda like awe and admiration ❤😊
@@ericsiqueira1 I would in a heartbeat-she's that good!!
They are a national treasure IMHO!
I am so glad they carry on the legacy of Mad Dog and Englishmen, Dereck and the Dominos, Delaney and Bonnie, the Allman Brothers... and all those great R and B bands that I love.
Most peeps wouldn't even know who you are talking about my friend. I'm only 60 , have played for45 yrs 15 professionally. Love all that music. It's REAL NOT MADE WITH BUTTONS ON A BOX!!!
@@mikeford1337 I am glad I did not mention JJ Cale, Roy Buchanan, Rory Gallagher, or Garry Moore...
Cool I appreciate your excellent taste in music and reply as well.
After 2 yrs of not playing 1yr ago I found an 07 American telecaster.
What's this have to do with it, Roy Buchanan was effing phenomenal, a true master of his telecaster ✌️😎. I'm just getting back Almost to where I was in playing. 1st time ever playing a telecaster. Gettin good again BUT I Am goin to Master my tele. I love how many different tones n sound You can get from a tele. Zeppelins 1st and 2nd album were recorded ith a telecaster. Not a les Paul like most think.....
Peace out bro n God Bless. Rock on Thor. Music 🎶 is the best medicine 💊...
@@mikeford1337 Sorry my friend, I only have an original 67 tele that I plug in my 63 AC30 VOX... Now something I wrote on a video of Albert Colin before I realize it didn't make sens to a lot of people: Albert Colins is the only guy I know who keep the ashtray on his tele.
@@mikeford1337 You would surprised... Most great albums were recorded using a tele. Keith Richards, Jimmy page, Pete Townsend, Sid Barret (actually a Squire), Andy Summers, and of course Steve Cropper. There is thisi channel Ask Zack that talks a lot about tele... if you are into people talking shop. Take care.
Susan's vocals are right on the money!
she's incredible
Susan is incredible and it is lovely to see over the years how she AND Derick have seasoned each other and given each other the confidence to just play the hell out of music and be rock solid. Just love them both and all the players.
This is a terrific version of the classic Whitlock/Clapton classic. One of my favorite songs.
Thank you for giving love to Bobby Whitlock. I think he often gets overlooked. ❤😊
Amen. Bobby Whitlock is a musical monster on that album and in general. His playing and vocals along with Carl and Jim really pushed that band.
Based on 2007 Crossroads version.
Man I've been enjoying all of these Derek and the Dominos covers by Derek and Susan along with Trey and impressive band! They do such a magnificent job-love love love Susan's voice and guitar playing! Mr. Trucks what a brilliant player! Trey is as well. What a treat!! Thank you all!
@@melissatyree566 One of mine too, I still marvel at the version off of the "In Concert" album. So superb! Double the amen-Bobby supplied a ton of passion and fire for the band. His vocals and keys pushed Eric to further heights. Carl and Jim--RIP what a legendary rhythm section! I'm loving that they are nailing all of the dynamic changes of the live Dominos versions.
Love to see Trey jammin with them 💯
"Derek Trucks is the guitar player my brother would have become"- Gregg Allman
.so true...i think I'm that every time I hear him play!!!🎼🎵🎶😎
正しく‼️
Derek throws a strap over his shoulder n Duane rides along
That was nice of Gregg to say that. It's also nice to know that Derek is his own player. He's earned every note and phrase he plays.
❤
Nice to see Derek Trucks set the slide down and dig in with those fingers, man he is awesome !
At the crossroads festival, he played one of the greatest solos ive ever seen him play (in my opinion the best), and he did it without slide. he's always done this song like this by the way. Look up the one he did with clapton at the 2007 crossroads.
And in open tuning...
the Guitar God of our time. a Legend, the best in his class
an the les paul sounds amazing
Yeah I prefer hearing him without the slide. Same thing when I listen to Duane’s songs
So much talent on one stage.
🍑My favorite band and bass player is killing it...They just keep raising the bar every year.. Derek & Trey play great off each other🍑
As a Phish Phan, Trey never played with a band so deep and tight. Just facts.
2019 feels so distant now. We need to get this feeling of freedom and closeness back - the survival of human spirit depends on it.
Two years later and more now than ever we need to bring back the love, compassion and hope. Forgive me for bringing up politics, but we need to put behind all of the hate and divisiveness. I say VOTE BLUE💙💙💙
As good as it gets!!! Absolutely killer!!! And I would have to say that anyone who thinks DT only plays slide is deaf and blind!!!! Wow wow wow!!! 🤘🤠🤘
As above. Mesmerizing. Can't get Tedeshi/Trucks Band out of my head.
The TTB took this song to another level..Derek is one of the best to ever pick up a guitar, if not the best..
Derek is basically channeling Duane/Clapton. This song was built for his style of playing. I will never get bored of it, nor of DT, I want MORE !
This definitely had an Allman Brothers bent to it.
Eric Claptons Derek and the Domino's version was great as well but, was obviously Eric's version.
@@jerrykelliker1731 It also got little Phishy too? But yeah the Endibg was very Allman bros
I think Derek trucks is one of the top 2 best guitar players performing today.
Jeff Beck is the other.
I think they ve played together at white house w obama, bb king, booker T and beck ,suze, derek etc
@@joncooperphotograph don't do this john: so many marvellous unique guitar players: duane, eric, mark, dicky, warren, keith, jimmy ray, jimmy h, jimmy p, bb, jeff, dutchman jan and so on, definitly this DEREK
@@joncooperphotograph .....and then there was one......
Trey is my favorite musician ever. Derek is always a pleasure to listen to also. He is not someone i listen to a lot, but it's always rewarding when i do listen to him.
Loved the solo when Trey bought it down low and he and Derek rebuilt from the ground up. That dynamic range is what makes Trey great. Derek has the riffs and shredding so they compliment eacb other well.
5:40 is buautiful work together.
love to see Derek on something besides the SG slide guitar. Also great treat to see Trey. This kicks butt
Simply awesome! The World needs these tunes ! Love from England
What a diverse band. So full tight relaxing feel good music. Thank You sir may I have another!
A great, great tune and I love Derek Trucks as a guitarist. So much clarity, tone, and feeling. But if you want to understand what a singular guitarist Eric Clapton was at the height of his powers, youve got to listen to WDLGTBSS on Derek and the Dominos In Concert album. The best 1-album band in rock history, and even as a 4-person band after Duane they were bogglingly good - they overwhelm the audience. And Clapton on the same song lays down two of the most amazing solos ever recorded. His guitar literally screams and wails on the first lead and then soothes and mezmerizes on the slow ending solo. It will blow you away.
And the lead on Let It Rain may even be better.
A friend of mine in college in early 80's turned me on to that album and I have been eternally grateful . Everything you've said I couldn't have said it better!
I’m 67 years old now and this band is spot on with everything they play! I actually NEVER thought anyone BUT Clapton could do ‘Layla’ justice - until they did it! TTB is going to be in concert near me this March ‘23, and I grabbed front row floor seats when I realized this. I hope to hear them play this along with the others, esp ‘Midnight in Harlem’ - my all time favorite❗️❤
Chicago? Maybe thats the next week. Me,my brother and wives was going to do the chicago(middle of iowa is where we are at) this band rocks. Was tickets reasonable?
@@briancrawford7981 I’m not sure what you consider reasonable for the tic’s I bought for the seats I did, but they were a little less than $600 (but they were also the Chase Bank client ‘reserved’ seats, and the ones that were right alongside were double the cost IIRC) each before the fees, taxes, etc. It’s going to be at the NJPAC in Newark, NJ, which I haven’t been to for many, many years - and that was for a symphony performance. But compared with the same seat location I had at the Met Life venue for Elton John’s ‘Farewell’ concert in ‘22, those were close to $2,000 each - before the add’l fees! But for me it was definitely worth it❗️👍
Derek is the most entertaining guitarist i have ever had the pleasure of listening to. 🎶
Derek Trucks is amazing, this band is amazing !!
This is the future of rock n roll. Thank goodness for TTB!! Here they are doing one of my favorite Derek & the Domino's tunes. They are so outstanding!! ♥️
Indescrivibile da re
In maniera naturale Derek... formidabile
The whole set is paradise
amazed that a scan of the comments shows people love TTB so much folks dont even notice Trey
Trey fits in so well you just assume he's part of the band.
Trey not really out in front on this one, but they are really great together!
Unbelievable jam!! This is such a beautiful song!!
Lockn fest outdid themselves that year, will it ever be the same,6 out 7 for me
Layla Revisited is doing rather a lot of heavy lifting for me in a tough time. Can’t stop playing it. Heartfelt thanks to the Greatest Band in the Land.
P.S., I Am the Moon is absolutely pulling its weight also
Good luck pulling through your tough time
I’m jamming Tedeschi Trucks through the Longleaf Pines all the way to the paddocks to thoroughbreds off my deck on a beautiful starry night in the Carolinas! It doesn’t get any better than this! ❤
Love Trey playing other music and with other folks!!
Trey was very respectful on Derek's show off
That's raw talent, from both players. No need for either to show off.
Never, ever was a guitarist or any other kind of musician, but I know what I like. And this is a master musician with all kinds of other talented musicians taking on one of rock’s most awesome songs from one of rock’s most dazzling collaborations, and making it shine all over again. I am above all a Duane Allman fan, but this song - and all of the players - soars and makes me want to hear the rest of the show.
The album of this show is just about to be released.
Drums are absolutely amazing 👏
What a band! The bass player is terrific! Always running. Always. Merci. J'adore.
Oui, oui, oui! P from Vt
The heir apparent to or maybe even the 2nd coming of Duane Allman.😍
This whole band, especially Derek is mind blowing!
Killin it!! Duane and Eric smiling from both Sides.
You came here for 5:15, but you stayed for the whole thing because it’s just that good. Thank you, TTB
This is what music is supposed to be like! What an amazing group of musicians from the leads to the supporting. Trey and Susan do an amazing job on vocals as well.
This band is so under rated.
@Glenn Watson why? Who is better at slide then Derek? Susan is a fantastic singer and guitarist. The whole band is tight as a drum. Spectacular.
Not Anymore..... G.A. shows are selling out in 1day!!!
I don't underrate them. I think they're great.
@@joebarr725 me too!!! Enjoy brother!! 🎸
they are a cover band
Derek trucks is the smoothest guitar player ever I love him and his Band and would love to see him in concert live
Great recording job. Audio is exceptional. Listening on a pair of Grado SR-80's and it just doesn't get any better than this for my money.
Edge of seat playing …actually watching each others fretwork when one is a slide - beyond beyond sweet
I never thought I’d hear credible versions of these songs outside of listening to the album again but how wrong I was. Credit to their sound tech well. He plays a big part what you’re hearing and it can’t be easy with so many musicians and instruments. Derek is one of very few who makes the instrument his own.
Beautiful ❤I love TTB SUCH TALENT AND EMOTIONS PUT IN THERE MUSIC****I SEE NOTHING SAD ONLY⭐🌟🌟❤🌹🌹 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Seeing those two play with Susan playing and singing is pretty fine! 😀
This is So Hot !!! It has a Santana sound this is a Grammy Sound !!!! Love it !!!
TY
Santana? Whatchu talking 'bout Willis ??
Could you imagine getting to be at this show?
Amazing rendition of one of the Most powerful/Beautiful songs ever written ! 😊
This is probably my favorite jam tune of all time. It's had such a beautiful life cycle. Derek and the Dominos played it with Eric and Duane, Whitlock plays it, The Allman brothers played it and Derek plays it. Pretty cool.
truly a master piece.
Thank you so much, TTB, for doing the Layla album !
You brilliant, talented people, thank you for making my day shine...
Love seeing Derek playing Duane's Gold top... This is a SMOKING version of the Dominoes original. What a great album which was *totally* made extraordinary by Duane Allman, Bless his soul and RIP.....
I never get tired of watching this amazing video! One of the very best concert videos that I’ve ever seen! I saw the TTB last week and can’t seem to get that concert off my mind! Incredible experience! Sure wish they could release a full concert DVD of this show! Seems to have been an epic night!
Can't wait for the album. Great band. Cheers from Scotland! You'd be very appreciated here. 😉
I first saw Susan at Humphrey's in San Diego in '97 or so -- Shemika Copeland opened for her. What a show. I think she was already married but they toured separately, because she mentioned her dad was babysitting for her backstage. She doesn't get nearly the credit she deserves for her guitar work. This piece is so great. At about 5:00 they start to come out of a quieter section and before you know it 12 to 13 world-class musicians are just wailing. God I miss live shows!
Duane watching from above - all smiling and grinning. "Well Done Brother"
I got the 'Layla' boxed at 16 years old for Christmas, in 1990. There's not much left of Derek and the Dominoes besides a couple of live albums, but what a brilliant rendition of a great song. Go on and on.
lindo mais 😍😍😍😍😍
Watching this before bed is heavenly!! Thank you. Beautiful version ✌️💜🙏✨🍄
Best version of this song I have ever heard.
スーザンサンとデレックサンとの掛け合いが、見事にヒカリます‼️オールマンrock、この続きを永遠に‼️
So much talent on that stage. That was magical.
I love the Allman brothers and Susan and of course the smoothest of all Derek trucks are my favorite musical group Ever
great bass player, so fine and tasteful! .. and the whole rhythm section sounds amazing..!!
It's Not Oteil any idea who? Sounds almost like Carl Radle! That TONE!
@@bentpolski the website lists their current bass player as Brandon Boone, and looks like him at 6:44
A great band attracts great players. Oteil B, Tim LeF., and now Brandon…all fantastic bass players…and to quote John Sebastian: “Every one of ‘em plays a whole lot better ‘n I will!”
@@karameaD "Nashville Cats, playin' since they's BAYBEES, Nashville Cats, strummin' since they's Twooo!
What a woman!! Susan used be the opening act for BB King back in the 90's.
Saw her a Jones Beach NY...a great show, as always.
Sounds a bit like Bonnie Riatt. Cool ... a band with man-woman mix and not only as back-up singers. (or in Prince's case all instruments).
They stay close to Derek's original version, nice to see some remembered that awesome album, which was slain by the critics upon release, by now fortunately is known as one of Rock's greatest albums!!
Susan is definitely a treasured, gifted performer....what a voice (and learned guitar at feet of her Daddy), then married Derek Trucks!!!! Love her work.....
これは、オシドリ夫婦の愛の誓い⁉️いつまでも、仲良く幸せに‼️ご馳走様‼️
Derek Trucks is the best guitar player on the planet.
Well, ONE of them anyway. I have him listed as one of the 7 greatest LIVING guitarists with John McLaughlin, Jeff Beck, Robert Fripp, Glenn Kaiser, Phil Keaggy and Dave Bainbridge in no particular order other than McLaughlin is #1 (to which Jeff Beck agrees!).
@@notadoc2130Perhaps the GREAT Warren Haynes can now take Jeff’s spot.
Derek makes that Paul talkl!!!!
Derek's tone is awesome, playing with his SG, Les Paul or whatever he wants 😍
As long as it's a one-piece Gibson with a Humbucker
DERICK is a truck's you bet THIS he is ONE of the most gifted guitarist in the universe no b.s. just watch n listen
I wanted to put this song on and listen to do something else.
But I was stuck watching perfection from the entire band.
Oh, well, why not put off til tomorrow what shouldn't be done today.
Thanks 🎶💄
Lovely to see you so cheerful and having a good time. Thanks for the music!
What a masterclass. Derek just sends it.
What a great bunch of musicians! Just makes one feel good inside!
This band is the real deal.
Did Hendrix record this? He could have ripped through it. Great performance - what musicians.
This band has been on a magical wavelength for some time.
Blown away. That's music. If you need a clip for a dictionary, that was it.
Once again... Nailed it! ❤🤘🔥🔥🔥
With a ten pound hammer!
So good! Can't wait for live music again! This is the next best thing to being there.
love doesnt have to be so sad it can be sooo wonderfull you need the right person
