  • We leave the WA coast and head inland, far into the biggest mining towns of remote WA on the dirt roads... all without a spare tyre! Yep, this was one hell of a trek from Point Samson to Kalgoorlie. We stayed at some lovely free camps along the way but hell did they give us a scare when the sun went down. The outback isn't for everyone but it was by far, one of our favourite roads to date.

    I don’t think I have ever laughed so much in my whole damn life, I am a Kiwi, I drove round Australia, 3 1/2 times, early sixties to early 1970s I helped build the Tom Price railway line from Port Hedland to Tom Price. there was a little bit of bitumen in the Main Street at Port Hedland. No bitumen from Perth to Port Hedland, that could take a week or more, I helped build the camps, up the railway line, tens of thousands of men, mostly from Europe, very few spoke English, a lot had jumped off the iron, ore ships and swam ashore to the beaches. We had a huge number of men running from something. I was dealing with American Vietnam deserters., Waffen SS, all sorts of crazy people from World War II from Europe, 12 hours a day, seven days a week on site, you wanted the day off you left the job. A very solid injury rate., and I number they did die on that railway.

    Bar's Bugs is the business, been using for over 45 years. For an outback/bush trip I use almost a full bottle to half per 6.5 litre washer bottle (depending on the trip/time of the year/bug splats) and keep a bit to wet my squidgy when I'm at water to clean off the bugs. ¼ bottle for the usual around town.trips. I buy the large as I can get (3 to 5 litre concentrate) to top the Bar's Bugs bottle.
    No it's not all scary out there, just a good prep and intrepid attitude.
    I've done a fair but of the bush on a GSXR1100 sports bike, so yes treading the safety margin... hahaha

    Lovely dog ... Dogs do suffer by being confined in small spaces while travelling. They need to be let out and taken for a run multiple times a day, or just to sit and walk sniff around on long breaks. I travelled around Australia and my dogs were only happy when they could get out of the car. Too much driving, or too far too fast and they became depressed and lethargic. Cheers!

      @@JourneyUnknown Yes, you would think bigger centres would have the tyre. But I guess they only have so much room and capital for fast moving stock. We only get 6 spares in triples, to backup 62 tires on the road. After that we have to chain up the axle, isolate the airbag and throw the 2 wheels up on the trailers. If you find the trucks going slower in the extreme heat? It is because we back off to 80kph in extreme heat to save tyres bursting due to heat and weight. 30 minutes later is far better than an hour covered in sweat and shit.

    The place you parked up for the night is not the camping area. That's further around. You blocked the entrance to the lookout.

      It was late, we had driven 8 hours and there was no one there going to the lookout.

    Why would you even post this video title??? I've worked in the Pilbara and the remote areas surrounding the town way out into the desert. IT IS SAFE! Do NOT believe anyone who tells you otherwise!

    • @JourneyUnknown
      @JourneyUnknown  3 місяці тому

      Why wouldn't you? it's a question. Thanks for answering with your opinion 👍. If you get stuck out in the Pilbara, it wouldn't be safe. That's why we had that title 🤔

      @@JourneyUnknown OH you mean safe as in getting stuck somewhere? Oh well that is totally different matter. But in that sense, anywhere in remote Australia is dangerous. I was thinking you meant from people.

    I’m very disappointed with how your journey has gone. I thought originally you were working to a budget, yet you eat, drink and camp very well. Understand it’s hot but it’s not been factored into your original speech before heading off.
    Now your home, been to Bali and getting a new and expensive van for your son to fit in, (how long before he won’t want to travel with you)
    Sorry you lost my husband and I, and we watched the adverts for you but no longer interested.

      Thanks for watching. We didn't turn around because of our budget. Laura has returned to work to help out. life throws many different curve balls if you're on the road or not. We have to do the right things for our family, and we'd expect no difference for anyone else. Our channel will continue to travel.

      We actually appretiate the up-front approach showing us the ups and the downs of travelling this great land. The take home lesson for us is that in extreme heat and humidity one needs air conditioning and that means getting into paid powered sites unless you have a generator that you can turn on without upsetting fellow travellers. The bulk of travelling oz vlogs are good at showing the extraordinary scenery and the good times, but clearly that is not the whole picture. Thanks Laura and Troy for your honest account.

      Loved your video! We hired a 4WD from Broome and Beyond in Perth and drove up the coast to Broome last year, so I really enjoy watching other couples’ takes on WA. You two have a lovely relationship! Part of thrill of life is looking back on times when risks had to be taken, and you planned for the worst by sticking to better roads and hoped for the bast.
