- Tracks have progressed to the south end of Queen Junction. I take a quick look at the MP1 switch machines, more rolling stock added as well as more lighting. I also sadly share the loss of Chief Engineer Black Betty.
So sorry you lost your best friend Betty. Good lookin pup. It's very heartbreaking when we lose them. RIP dear Betty.
So sorry to hear about Betty. Our pets become more than just that, they are family members. RIP sweep girl.
Blessings to you, and the family ..so sorry for your loss.
My condolences! RIP Betty. She made a lot of people smile with her layout appearances.
Thank you for sharing. One of the hardest things to deal with is the passing away of a good friend🙏 so sorry for your loss.
Looking good. Sorry to hear of Bettie’s passing.
Nice trackwork... I think what you've done is the perfect combination for a smooth running layout. Flex track and PC board, soldered, fixture built turnouts.
Condolences on the loss of your dog... Sadly, the attachment to pets runs deep and you know from the beginning that you're going to have to say "goodbye" someday.
Thank you
So sorry to hear of Betty’s passing. I had to put my My 14+ year old rescued sheep dog down a few months ago.
SetIve heard about the MTB switch machines but you are the first I know of to use them. Looking forward to hearing about your control of them. Thanks for the update, Ray.
We'll see. I'll be doing a write up for the division newsletter
Always enjoy your updates and especially enjoyed seeing Betty, she reminded me so much of my Abby that I was convinced that they were twins. Abby and I were always together, as it seems you and Betty were. I'm sure you will miss her terribly, but be thankful for your time together.
Thank you.
Dear Ray, great choice those MTB switch machines. Especially love the true lateral movement of these small motors. Ever after seeing James’s videos on his design for true lateral movement switch machines, on his channel Bexhill West, I’ve been looking for other solutions than the pivot designs. An old vid from Steve Muskoka shows a Tortoise mount with a remote attachment, from Tortoise, which also changes the pivot movement into lateral. He also points out that it significantly decreases the stress on the point blades.
Very sorry to hear your four footed friend Black Betty has made her last trip to the hunting grounds. Wish you and your loved ones strength and love to overcome the passing.
I did consider mounting tortise against the wall and extending out linkage. Just seemed like more work. I like trying something different.
nice layers!
Sorry for your loss. Glad to hear your Open house went well. Enjoying your progress.
Thank you
I’m so sorry to hear that Betty has passed away. We’ve never owned a dog, but there hasn’t been a moment in the last 37 years where we haven’t had at least one cat in our lives. Until last month when the best cat that anyone could wish for left us.
There’s just something, a bond, a familiarity that develops between an animal and its human that really can’t be described but is felt so strongly. They are your friends, your faithful companions but most of all, they are family.
Love the layout and I always enjoy the updates. I only wish I had a tenth of your vision and energy to devote to working on my layout as you do on yours.
Take care.
Thank you
Ray, so sad to hear about Betty's passing. I looked forward to seeing her as much as your layout progress.
Thank you. I may have another furry companion appearing soon.
@@bessemerlakeerieinhoscale6061 Sounds great. Looking forward to seeing the new companion.
Nice update Ray! Great find on the switch machines.
Sorry to hear about Betty.
Thanks Mark. 2024 goal, I'd like to come out for an ops session.
@bessemerlakeerieinhoscale6061 you're certainly welcome, Ray! It would be an honor to have you. Approximate dates are Kate February, late June and late October.
So sorry for your loss. Beautiful dog and my boy howls at sirens. He woke up when he heard black Betty howling. Love watching your progress. I'll never get to have a railroad so I'm building your track with you. Thanks for sharing
Same here !!! Great layout!!
So sorry for your loss!
Thank you
Cool video and channel just subscribed
Thank you!
so sorry about the old puppy I think is hard when they pass away
Steady progress as always Ray.
I’ve had a week to dedicate to the layout and my goal of running a train for a full lap (153 feet) by Christmas is looking good ! …..despite my earlier pessimism.
So sorry to hear of Betty’s passing 😢
They leave a hole that nothing can fill 💔

Very interesting to hear your explanation about the MP1 switch machines. I used MP5 switch machines on my previous layout, and so I understand all of the nice aspects and the advantages you are mentioning. However, I found them to be extremely brittle, not robust at all. As soon as I had to start making adjustment, they very quickly stop working properly. So, I´d be very interested to hear your experience over a longer period of time. Anyway, I have started building a new layout recently and going to use tortoise machines.
Longevity will definitely remain to be seen. Tortise machines are pretty dang bullet proof, but I just can't live with the size up here. My large yard at north bessemer/ Conneaut is powered by tortise
Yes your choice makes sense, absolutely. You'll get the longevity experience automatically 😁. I'm a great fan of your layout, always looking forward to the next video!
Regarding the MTB switch motors. They should be able to be operated by a DCC switch decoder.
Yes there's good documentation on a few different brands. I just want to prove it out for myself, see how easy/ hard it is. I'd like to come up with a solution that doesn't require a diode ladder.
Looks great. Very sorry about your dog. What breed was Betty
Black lab / hound mix was best guess. She was a rescue dog, so.... not totally sure. Vet seemed to agree with assessment.
So long Betty. You've accomplished your mission here most admirably.❤🦴🙏
