I think one of the two folks here really understood the purpose of these cans. A lot of other reviews on this headphone/ headset are missing the point of segmentation. They're reviewing this based on the criteria of customer segments the product wasn't designed for.
This is a premium headphone for those who appreciate build quality and aesthetics while providing acoustic performance s good or better than other flagship cans (XM4s, B&W PX7, MontBlanc MB01, Apple Airpods Max, BOSE NC700, etc.). And who also game- so they're sacrificing a bit vs. their B&O HX while adding gaming features.
This is NOT for those who want a gaming headset first and foremost.

It’s Bang and Olufsen dawg. Number one the audio quality is outrageous you expect that walking in the door. But that’s a cheap pair of headphones for them. They usually charge $800 😂.
They made those headphones for audio files who don’t wanna wear common people headsets. Just another layer to making the Xbox a premium brand option for buyers
Yeah but what audiophile is actually gonna buy these? Like this product is super niche and doesn't really fit any one consumer category. Majority of gamers/Xbox owners aren't audiophiles and an audiophile isnt about to listen to music on their Xbox lmao, and any game audio would be wasted on that headset. Furthermore, audiophiles will already have existing pairs of expensive and finely tuned headsets.

@@sonicman9910 I agree. That would be stupid. I never advocated for that. I personally use an Audeze Mobius for all of my headphone/ headset needs. Which I got for only $250 btw.
Did you guys use Atmos with them? And did you adjust the EQ from the (apparently excellent) B&O app?
It sounds like they didn't adjust the EQ. I have the B&O A1 and I love it. But that's a speaker and only for when I can't bring my LG OK99.
I think maybe you guys should spend more time with these products and play with the settings more to fine-tune the sound to your liking.
They sound great for gaming you have to take the time to play with the app along with the Dolby Atmos app on the Xbox you also have to go to Xbox settings and switch it to headphones. These are by far the best sounding headset for gaming that I have used I have the Artis 9x and the New windows Xbox headset there is no comparison the B&O blows them out of the water
I agree I was able to to get b&o's for $300 on ebay and now I never touch my arctis 9x unless my portals are dead on battery I don't think these guys even touched the eq on the phone app or on the dolby app because I can definitely hear footsteps in games like halo infinite
Honestly you're just better off buying audiophile headphones at that point. Gaming headsets don't do anything special at all.
I have a set of Beyerdynamic DT 990 pros (cost $200 dollarydoos) and they blow any gaming headset out of the water.
@@janemba42 I would pay the extra $100 and just get these for $300 like I did on ebay over the beyerdynamic. For $100 I get wireless (Bluetooth/ xbox wireless connection) , noise cancelation, adjustable eq and music control, and just better styling, materials, and construction. Plus I have roommates so I can't really do open back headphones without hearing everyone in the background so yeah way worth the extra $100 over the beyerdynamics for me
@@13elborracho13 You can get all those features in other, hi rez audio quality headphones too. My DT's are far superior in terms of build quality, and you can even buy replacement parts for everything. They come in closed back versions too. There is absolutely no reason to trust a company that doesn't have much experience in headphone balancing and tuning.
I understand wanting certain features and such, but gaming headphones are just a marketing gimmick. Not a single gaming headset can even come close in terms of audio quality and tuning.
Go watch Dankpods video about gaming headsets, and Crinacle too. Crinacle has documented literally thousands of headphone benchmarks and has a very trusted reputation in the audiophile community.
TLDR: %99.999999 of "Gaming" headsets are terrible and you're just paying a premium for the word gaming.

Bang and olufsen been doing this since beyerdynamic was still just beyer I think they know what they're doing when it comes to audio. I honestly wouldn't even consider these gaming headphones there more like really good music headphones that just happen to connect to your Xbox like shit bro do some research saying B&O don't know how to tune audio
It's £450 because the build quality is amazing. The sound is incredible. And they are designed to use as music headphones as well as a gaming headset.

The Beoplay portal doesn't allow simultaneous Xbox and bluetooth connections. Which is why I returned them.
Wow what a let down, even my Arctis Pro Wireless do for 150€ less, never the less id rather stick to my HD600 lol

Bluetooth finicky.
Returned BestBuy for me.
I liked the headset , VERY good at audio on PC/PHONE using bluetooth with no usb dongle.
Audio was a mixed bag on Xbox. Amazingly accurate but flat sounding. I played with the Dolby Access app and the B&O app to really close to getting a clean rich bass sound.
Overall great headset , but lacking on the Xbox side. I also found volume level could use a boost.
I mean, i bought the Beyerdynamic MMX 300 2nd gen for $300, so i can see B&O selling theirs at a premium... Though, as you mentioned, they really are meant for multimedia and more of an alternative to Apple's AirPods Max, in which they're apparently succeeding.
€500 and I cannot hear anything else other than my audio. I listen to music while gaming. Incredible sound, Dolby atmos and super comfy. I love them , albeit very expensive

I think this channel is gone due to business decision. Probably it was a partership and they couldn't agreed on the contract terms. sad to see this channel because the content was really good. Or they just simply don't want to invest anymore on this
I paid 900 for my B&O headphones.
If the Portal can keep up with their quality I prefer them over the rest anytime.
Pairing/mobility and the ability to have two audio sources (XSX +Discord/Skype) wins for me.
I am slightly worried about the mic quality - but... meh...I don't really care about what the others think about my voice, actually.
I think you’re the first UA-cam reviewer to use the words (for a gaming headset the audio is terrible for gaming) to describe the B&O portal gaming headset.

I'm getting the Microsoft wireless headphones on Monday from Amazon. I saw a review where someone said the gaming and music sound off of the bluetooth both sound good. They said it was overly bassey when you play games, but when music is playing off of bluetooth it sounds a lot more balanced.

The market issue was they didn’t market the $500 headset as a mobile and gaming headset. It supposed to give you the flexibility to use your phone and switch to your game without loosing quality. Also you have to use the Dolby audio feature that is required to use it. If you don’t use it then you can’t get the best sound.

It makes perfect sense and isn’t a bad deal. They are for someone who wants to buy one pair of headphones that can do it all. If these existed earlier could have saved me a few hundred because I bought some steel series for gaming and the APM for music. If I could have one pair for both that would be nice.
B&O is the danish version of Apple.... I ordered a B&O headphone so I will feel REAL leather over my ears and NO mic-boom.... Looking forward for that and also did enjoy there sale here in Denmark :)

I own the beoplay portal (bought it at 200 dollars). I think the review is spot on. The headset is amazing for multimedia and not super for gaming. Personally its more than enough for me, i use them mostly for multimedia and now and again to game without disturbing the baby.
I owned Turtle beaches, Hyperx, and the latest astro a50. Now i just bought this a couple months ago and they blow those brands out the map!! What i hate about gaming headsets specially while playing COD is the footsteps are not present while explosions and louder noises are happening at the same time. With this beoplay tho!! The clarity it’s unmatched! Hands down the best I’ve ever had and i got them for 180. Cheaper than most high end gaming headsets

The Audeze Penrose X sound better for music and gaming and are $200 less than the Portal. I returned my Portals as they definitely don't sound that amazing for games. Now for music , yes but I already have the Sony WH1000XM4 for that purpose.

Also myself next Thursday I am going to be purchasing myself a pair of these B&O portal gaming headphones. Because like I mean, yes they are a ridiculous price point of $545 Canadian. But on the other side they don’t just call them the highest quality wireless gaming headphones for no reason. With my own money I don’t have a problem and spending $620.27 Canadian on them. But that’s just me with my opinion. Like just for an example, myself there is another headset on the market that is only $150-$200 less expensive than these headphones. And those headphones are the Astro A50’s with wireless base station, and myself I paid $455 Canadian for both shipping and tax on Amazon. And in my opinion those headphones were very expensive.

@@Djuntas yes I'm still very happy with them definitely best sounding headphones I've ever had for gaming/music however for gaming lately I've been using the new arctis nova pro more only for convenience sake because I can have them connected to my xbox, ps5, and switch and easily switch between them and with the swappable battery never concerned about battery life.
@@Djuntas TLDR if your planning on using these as 50/50 music and gaming headphone s definitely the bang olufsen however if you have multiple consoles and primarily for gaming I think the arctis nova pro might be the better buy

I bought the $320 Steelseries Arctis Pros and I love them but I don’t see where the value is in this headset for $500.
Better choice indeed, ANC isnt really usefull at home anyways. My open back HP are even my go to while my Arctis Pro Wireless are collecting a little dust and serve me as my outside headphones

I really hate mics close to the mouth, that’s probably to blame from my Astro A40 mic needing to be a half inch from my face lol.
Premium audio is a game of diminishing returns. The higher you go, the lesser of a difference you get. Audeze also has a "gaming" line and they are over $1,000 USD. I don't think they will appeal to the vast majority of gamers, but people looking for more enthusiast level audio will appreciate the integration with XBOX. I personally will take a flat and accurate response over unbalanced bass any day.
The way I see it, these are more of an AirPod Pros competitor than a regular gaming headset, and you get better SQ and XBOX support.
