nice job, that is a good crew, paying attention to the details, also the small roller is something i never seen before, i wish some people in my crew works as harder as your guys. grettings from Delaware.
The hand roller is mostly for esthetics. The big roller gets the full density compaction sufficiently. The attention to tamping the edges correctly is how far too many paving companies get it wrong. It makes the job look beautiful. Been in the paving business for 35 years. These guys are good. Superb job. ;)
I have had two very long driveways paved before and now anticipating doing that a third time (different place each time) and when I watch the various videos it really scares me as to what I will end up with, this video shows what I would hope for. I especially liked the hand tamping … as well as the people's work ethic.
@@SaultAsphaltPaving this exactly how i close the the tar in, get it closed in as quick as possible with as little water so the tar keeps warm for the sit in roller! Would use a bit more water in the final roll tho great work 👍
I like that little hand roller idea to smooth out the rake spots before the roller can hit it. I seen them raking the seems. Those Mauldin pavers couldn't run a seem for shit. I had a couple of them. I upgraded to a Weiler p265 and you would be hard pressed to find the seem without raking. My new paver has a conveyor floor so you can get dumps no matter what the trucks like, it just sucks it in. Looks pretty good though.
Todd Thomas true true. Some areas you can get away with a little spray of diesel because the mix is so oily but alot you can't. I couldn't do it where I'm at because the mix is so dry. I usually have 2 plate compactors but my 40 inch double drum bomag out on every driveway I do so I doubt I would need that little hand roller but its a nice idea if you have to do alot of hand work.
Dustin Pryde There is entirely way too much rolling I learned that along time ago the longer the straighter the past you make with the roller the better it comes out there’s no point in keep rolling it like that
@@zac3891 I had a 1550 that did a good job. My last paver I had was a 690 and I hated it. I think the bigger models do a better job. My Weiler 265 and my old Mauldin 1550 are pretty similar on how they work and size and shape.
Good job nice to see someone out there with more than a half a brain , nice job 👍!! Only thing I would recommend is not hand rolling down the seam. The first 7 foot down is good to hand roll then leave the grainy seam. The next pass then rake out the seam, rake the big aggregates in a pile and shovel them out. Now hand roll the seam , then start the power roller and kill it as u did !!!! Clean up is key nice !!
I'm curious why do you operate the paver by yourself wouldn't it be much easier to have another guy run one side of the paver so you didn't have to keep stopping and making adjustments to both sides
I've been thinking about your question about using the 'hoe to fill the spreader and I thought, maybe they didn't want to put the weight of the truck with a full load of asphalt on the base because it might be the start of ruts in the pavement in years to come.
Like the choice of paver...Mauldin 550...I have the 690. Turned out good but not understanding the hand roller or so many men. Job I just finished took 220 ton...one day and three guys
I've been watching mostly clown shows all morning until this crew. Finally a crew i would pay to do my drive. I pity all those other home owners getting bad work done.
I was Floored when i saw String lines.... thought our crew was the only one. Watched a vid earlier looked like the operator was a bit tipsy....for a straight that ran about 200+ feet.... my boss says its worth the time in end... yep i see why now.
Hi BR549, yes the name of the company is Sault Asphalt Paving. Also not everyone there is part of the crew. There were some new guys so it was a learning process as well.
Three or four of the people you see were not part of the process of the work getting done. Although some work a little harder then others, each person has a certain responsibility. And we have a great crew. We do pave overlays but that is not concrete the driveway was prepped and paved to grade in accordance to the landescape requirements.
Hi Luke, you are right. But we are careful not to have that happen as it would not be pleasing to the customer. If you notice we have a canvas mat there beside the fuel. To be honest we don't like to leave any trace of our working behind, even on the street. It helps the job look better and people appreciate it.
I can't figure out why you would leave gas cans setting on top of the landscaping grass, not to mention the 5Gal cans of what I assume is solvent (gas?) that the shovels are dipped in. As a customer, it wouldnt make me very happy to come home to holes burned into the lawn.
Hi Michael there were canvas tarps on the lawn that are used for those things and tools. We take great concern in leaving every job clean. We have never ruined any customers lawn. Mind you we do have to continually explain this to new employees.
Hi Brian, for building the take off we have always done it that way. For the truck it would not match up. We have tried a few trucks where you literally have tons of asphalt on the ground because they don't specifically haul asphalt. It was a nice truck though. All the best to you hope you have a blessed season.
Hi Theboy Inthedark, it just comes down to the editing and uploading. We are going to try and put up a few real time paves this year. All the best to you.
Thank you Larry, you are right although we had a few reasons we were operating that way. Hopefully things work out so we can do that and be more efficient.
Man I remember those long driveway days now I’m in Operating Engineers hard work pay off 👊🏾
Excellent Work always!!!
Thank you very much Frank!
What a nice looking driveway

I don't care what anyone says I have done asphalt myself for 20 years. That's how you pave a driveway looks excellent 👍
lol @ the customer walking up the driveway at high speed right at the very end!
Looks like you have a good crew
Aside from compaction issue i think the rest was top notch

I ha e to agree with the edges being tamped. Makes the job look way better. Been tamping edges for 15 years on driveways.
Brilliant work wouldnt donit any other way myself

Dustin Pryde it is a great idea the only problem is you just coated the whole top of The pavement with diesel fuel

We run a maudlin 1750-c and the seems never get touched. They are basically invisible behind the paver

What's with the backhoe, and hand shoveling the headers?
Just back the paver up and open the cutoffs for a few seconds.
The dump truck was a low ride suspension and could not not properly load the spreader so we used the back hoe. As far as the rest its just preference.
I've been thinking about your question about using the 'hoe to fill the spreader and I thought, maybe they didn't want to put the weight of the truck with a full load of asphalt on the base because it might be the start of ruts in the pavement in years to come.
I was wondering the same thing..

Hi Ron alot of those questions were answered in previous comments. Were old school that's how we roll. 35 years.
You laid 220 tins with alittle Mauldin 690 in one day with 3 men? Sure buddy keep dreaming.
I've been watching mostly clown shows all morning until this crew. Finally a crew i would pay to do my drive. I pity all those other home owners getting bad work done.
Thank you Sir Tomasin. We are hoping to be back at it in the near future. Stay safe.
What a nice job ! Is the asphalt as thick throughout as it looked near the end ?
Thank you! We have been in business for over 35 years. We treat every job like our reputation depends on it. Great group of guys to work with.
Please hire me!, I have an 8 year experience in the field of base grading and paving as well as old asphalt removal with skip loader and loader!
That’s what happens when you grade the driveway with asphalt you have thicker spots in places like the edge
LOL - round and round they go
What's a job like that typically cost ?
I'm curious, how much does that push roller weigh?
Hi Michael it would be a little over 200 Lbs.
I was Floored when i saw String lines.... thought our crew was the only one. Watched a vid earlier looked like the operator was a bit tipsy....for a straight that ran about 200+ feet.... my boss says its worth the time in end... yep i see why now.
Hi I was just wondering what Sault mint ??
Fire Fighter4059 Hi there, the Sault part is the city Sault Ste. Marie. Border town with Sault Ste. Marie Michigan.
Is Sault the name of the company? Very big crew for driveway job!
Hi BR549, yes the name of the company is Sault Asphalt Paving. Also not everyone there is part of the crew. There were some new guys so it was a learning process as well.
You could pave a parking lot with 4 or 5 guys and that paver. Driveways require more labor because of the edges and multiple tie in's
Every body work like this raise every week
How much asphalt bags would you need for a driveway
Hi Trevor, do you mean asphalt patch or Sackrete?
Why so many workers? :-D And do they put the new asphalt on top of the old concrete? Realy?

Hand roller ? No oil on base material ? Didnt compact before asphalt.
Hi Thomas, yes the driveway was graded and prepped including compaction. We do not use bitumen here.
@@SaultAsphaltPaving awesome job😁
Why oil crushed stone? That prep job looks great, flat and compacted
Isn't it a bad idea to leave all the fluids on the grass? Spraying the tools or spilling any of it will kill the grass.

Truck was to low
My bunch could pave that drive before they made one pull, great effort but so much wasted time and movement
Left screw man is horrible lol
Rolling with a hand roller? Too much hand work....buy a good paver. CAT
Hand rollers are mint for sealing up asphalt thats to hot yet to roll. Insures a nice tight finish until you can come behind with more weight
