    We are now doing weekly aerial flyovers depending on the support that we get. Our cost range from pilot fees to rental fees of the Cessna 172 that is used for the flyovers over the sites.

    Extending the metal plating around the launch pad, would protect the underneath concrete layer from the extreme temperatures as the abrasive erosion from the engines thrust.

      I agree, it would seem that 3/4" plate steel in sheets could be laid down and welded continuously for the first 100 feet in all directions. This would make future changes a pain in the arse below the plating. Fondague was a fun experiment but probably the wrong material choice.

    Fondag sounds like refractory like we used in big multi-megawatt power house I worked at
    Wonderful in dealing with RADIANT heat.
    Not worth a hoot against a high velocity blowtorch type flame.
    If it is in fact a radiant heat refractory it will never work because wrong application

    8:27 Am I the only one scared of how close that many methane tanks are from the lauch pad? A big boom during lauch, or a wrong turn while leaving the pad could easily beat the record of biggest explosion of spaceflight history...

    • @nelsongarcia8959
      @nelsongarcia8959 8 місяців тому

      I agree it is close, but I am guessing that at that point most of the methane will be in the starship and the risk at the tank farm will be mostly structural and not as a contributor to making an explosion at the pad much worse.

    • @JeremyDN
      @JeremyDN 8 місяців тому

      Honestly though if it does go wrong and heads towards the tank farm for a crash the amount of methane in the rocket itself would make the biggest explosion period. The further away the storage is from the pad would mean more cooling was needed for the longer distance. That being said, this is a production/prototype site constantly being remodeled and upgraded. It’s amazing how fast they are actually working on getting all of this done across the multiple sites. Each one is vital to the next so let’s pray we never have to abort right after launch or have a booster come back down right after launch.

      Flame trench at Boca Chica can't be done without creating a tall hill - that is starting from scratch. They don't have land enough for that anyway (note the long ramp at 39A).
      And, a trench is no guarantee it will last any longer than any other such alternative. Is there any trench you heard of that has handled the equivalent of 33 Raptors? They also need extensive repairs and are not convenient if rapid launching is the goal. SpaceX are still in the middle of their R&D after all.

    • @ericbainter826
      @ericbainter826 8 місяців тому +3

      Every Apollo and Space Shuttle launch damaged the launch pad. One shuttle launch ejected 1500 fire bricks out of the trench. A trench is not a solution.

    • @knowledgeisgood9645
      @knowledgeisgood9645 8 місяців тому +2

      The producer of Fondag states "less than 24 hours" for it to cure. They gave it several days.
      The problem is the size of the areas of Fondag. Like all concrete it tends to crack if the area is too large, which is why you can see them cut concrete with saws. Having gaps from saws in the concrete around the OLM is not something they want. So, they have to accept some cracks to show up. Small cracks can be repaired - larger ones have to be redone. It is not a big deal. New concrete is a daily endeavor at Starbase.

    Wow it's almost like concrete cure times matter. Nsf can do a weekly podcast talking about how concrete can dry in 3 days and it won't change the reality. The thicker the pour and the higher pressure rating of the material dictate a much longer cure time than the minimum, into the magnitude of months or weeks. Let's see how much concrete achieves flight during oft-2.

    • @TheEvilmooseofdoom

      Or it could be that high pressure in those pipes is causing them to move. I have seen that in water pipes.
