I'm so glad everyone can take a peak into what SpaceX is working on and get inspired in their own ways to pursue their dreams. Looking forward to seeing more interviews, and fingers crossed for the orbital launch!
As a life-long construction guy, I know that wandering around after the crew has gone home, gives way to some of the most creative ideas. It's so cool going around the site with a very human Elon.
I really liked that too. He could be more arrogant about what he's built. But instead he compliments it and is in awe. Feel like he indirectly is lifting up the people who built this with their hands. SpaceX has a great team.
@@XBarFighterX LOL, experience and courage from old engineers of ULA and Boeing doesn't help. Young engineers on SpaceX proved it by Falcon rockets and Dragon capsules. Agreed. When seeing many videos from Boeing, ULA, etc, seeing a lot of old engineers and operators (most of them are over 45 years old or olders). This is the best video of all time. This was technical, philosophical and overall view of the Starbase especially interviewing Elon up in the launch tower. Fantastic
Congrats to your growth too Tim. From little self-made videos about rockets to multiple personal interviews with Elon, Beck, and others your channel has come a long way.

So Much fun! Real Prospective to the actual size of Starship! Larger than any other 2 stage rocket ever conceived never mind launched 5 times! 2 of the trips where very successful! The 6th Trip is ready at any day! Perhaps a catch of both the booster and ship this time! I would not put it past them!
Standing below that tower is one of the most awe-inspiring things I've ever seen. The sheer scale, and the fact that the Starship is at that scale as well. Brings the whole thing into perspective.
I am looking forward to watching at least one launch. I missed the Shuttle, I hope to at least see one of these and Artemis go up. Artemis is the Equivalent of a 21st Century Saturn V.
Tim, I have to acknowledge how you have avoided making videos with that "look at what I've done" tone that other UA-camrs might have gone for and kept these interview videos focused on what Elon and SpaceX are doing. There's neither forced humbleness nor self gravitas, just wonderful insight and information.
"At SpaceX we specialize in converting things from 'impossible' to 'late'." Might be both one of the funniest and also coolest things Elon has said in person.
I really like the quiet times in this, watching Elon be amazed at the work he has done is really special. That sounds weak but I don't know what else to call it this is really special.
It really is special. People who don't think it is do not have full comprehension of what Elon and his SpaceX teams have accomplished. In a world where getting out of bed and not complaining is an achievement, what SpaceX is doing and has done feels to me as grand as creating an entirely new planet from scratch.

During one of the scenes on the tower it suddenly dawned on me that this is maybe the exact moment that will be remembered as the start of our journey to the stars and beyond. This moment there with Tim Dodd and Elon Musk when the sun was setting on good old earth and Mars was only a few years away. Thank you for this historic moment!

I would of preferred more technical questions as well. You got Elon Musk for an interview! Ask questions Tim! Maybe take a poll for good questions before the next interview
Big fan of Space X and Elon. Elon has this weird mix of child-like wonder, engineering brilliance, determination, and work ethic that drive this deal. Fascinating guy.
"At SpaceX we specialize in turning things from impossible to delayed" and "success is one of the possible outcomes" - but this guy; such optimism is contageous.
every time i listen to this man and the crew i am fascinated by his "out of the box" thoughts very much. I mean how far can you create the future today. Unbelievable. He has been thinking and acting so many steps ahead for years.
At the top, first thing that everyone did was take in the view. Elon then takes his phone out and videos the view. Unlike other people in his position, he is genuinely excited about the work. Elon's vision and ability far exceeds others, his drive will make humans multiplanitary. Passengers for Mars will one day leave Earth from the Elon Musk Space Port.
@@PanzerBuyer I was thinking the same thing. Definitely his first trip there because he looked anxious on the elevator and looked excited at the top when he saw the ship and the booster.

That atmosphere on top of the tower was insane. Being there with Elon is like you suddenly occurred in the front of all the humanity and there is nothing left that would be more innovative in spaceflight, you have to create it, push it forward. I guess that's what these guys feel every day when they get back to work...
I'm going back and forth between how totally amazing these interviews are and the level of access .. and just the awesome interaction between all of you.... and my fear of heights.. OMG there are people who are actually working at these heights. 😰
"with a childlike wonder" Thank You!!! I had not been able to articulate that 'difference' in Musk's approach to the world, but that captures it. To a child, everything is fascinating and nothing is impossible. Society unintentionally beats that curiosity and wonder out of kids by the time they graduate from high school..... Somehow Elon escaped that and humanity is better off for it.
I just rewatched this video, and I just realized how awesome the last shot of Elon is. Hes walking away into the distance while your music plays. That feels like a movie ending!
That shot at 0:50 blew my mind . It’s like the first shot of a video game sequence. Or a dream or a nightmare. Whatever it is , it’s out of this world. Thanks Elon for being so unselfish in showing your machines. Mars is within grasps. And thanks Tim for being the bridge between space tech and space curiosity.
I like how starship also has short term goal and deadline in taking starlink 2 to orbit; it really helps keep everyone focussed on stepping stones to get it working and not feel the big goal of space travel to Mars is too far out of reach. Interesting how they’ve bet the launch delivery mechanism of starlink 2 on starship - there’s no back up of falcon 9. Starship has to work.
I'd love a Falcon9 back up for an audacious Mars Dragon. Elon would probably say that's a daft idea, but I'd prefer to traverse Mars by Dragon, as opposed to the Cybertruk
A tiny part of me wishes you asked a ton of questions about all aspects of "stage 0", but I ended up really enjoying the peaceful time chilling up there with Elon. I do like insights into the man himself, when he's relaxed and pondering things, away from the recent tornados in his life and businesses. Well done Tim. 🍺🙂

@@Bramon83 Apologies, as I should have better framed my comment. Given that by the time the early days of spaceflight were occurring we had already had Von Braun working with missiles/rockets almost two decades prior. That's also not bringing in to consideration Goddard's research nor the Chinese, who had first used rockets in anger in the 13th century. The developments for the late 50s and early 60s were to make use of what had been a strictly military weapon to transport humans out of the confines of the earth's atmosphere. My comment only meant to compare/contrast the historical precedent that Elon and SpaceX are involved in with that of the early manned spaceflight developments. Granted, Elon and SpaceX are indeed standing of the shoulders of giants, however, the departure of the norms that were now see as being a regular thing (vertical landing of spacecraft, as in Falcon 9 and the successful test landing of Starship) are quite breathtaking nevertheless. Quite like the early days of manned spaceflight

Amazing. This reminds me of a recurring dream I've had for the last 5-6 years wherein I meet Elon Musk and he gives me a tour of his facilities and just talks philosophy.
When they went up the catch tower it reminded me of my first visit to the Eiffel Tower last week. It’s absolutely mind blowing what Elon and SpaceX team is doing. Americans and its politicians should start to realise they are literally making history!!!
Americans have been literally making history since the inception of our nation. Automobiles, airplanes, petroleum, the assembly line process, mass production, nuclear energy, basically the entire modern world that we all live in. ( You're welcome, from America) Elon and his team are continuing this trend with the most cutting edge inovations and engineering. The likes the world has never seen. I'm sure profits are important to continue the work of course but you can tell Mr. Musk does most if not all of these great feats for the betterment of the human species's. He's the definition of red, white and badass. Hell, the only person more badass than him, was him ten years ago. Lol. I'd call for him to run for president but I don't want to insult his intelligence or abilities, nor have him working a position that would be well below his skill sets.
That comet that hit Jupiter and created a 'hole' the size of Earth is scary stuff. It's incredible no one talked about it before. Yes, I support the idea of humanity becoming multi-planetary. That doesn't mean we stop caring about Earth; it's not a zero-sum game as Elon puts it. Overall, this is a great interview. Kudos to Tim Dodd

Agreed. When seeing many videos from Boeing, ULA, etc, seeing a lot of old engineers and operators (most of them are over 45 years old or olders). I did respect the experience but they should use it wisely for quality control, not for designing/creating and problem-solving.
