Love that quote from Elon. “At Space X we specialize in converting things from impossible to late”
2:12 is where that's at
That kind of sums up and explains Elon time and philosophy 😁.
Exactly. Everyone who gripes that he's late forgets that it wasn't being done at all by others.
Lol. Gosh I love that man!

NASA: "Failure is not an option!"
Elon: "Success is one of the possible outcomes."
in government, everyone is positions of authority says no. It is the safest option.
These perspectives are not very different. Failure is a possible outcome, but not an option. It is something that might happen, but it is not something you are willing to choose. Gene Krantz's creed comes from a time when NASA took its mission seriously. It never meant "we won't do anything that might fail", it means "we will not accept failure until we have exhausted all options". Elon's version implicitly accepts that failure is possible, even likely.
Great comment/comparison
Great quote, and works great until you add human crew/passengers. Imagine being the the staff in charge of Apollo 13, knowing the impossible has happened, and having to innovate or die in a matter of hours and days!
Where does NASA say that
Man, I think the biggest and coolest take away from this is watching Elon actually take in the view for the first time. You can tell that he is probably always so focused on the project that he never stops to just take a look and appreciate the beauty of the world around him. And you could tell he was almost in awe of his own creation, taking it in for the first time like everybody else there. A man like that probably doesn't get a chance to just stop and appreciate very often.
To me he waits for everyone to leave then does rhis every night

That´s right. Elon just asks: What color is your Spaceship?
When you’re as rich as Elon there’s no point in flaunting your wealth lol. I’ve noticed that most billionaires don’t wear anything fancy. Simple cargo shorts and a t shirt will suffice.
Best Elon quote was on catching the booster: “This is completely untested.. but success is one of the possible outcomes”
Anyone other than Elon would require a working model before proceeding this far with the chopsticks booster catcher contraption.
my favorite elon quote is "i am sorry i showed you my penis, here is $250,000 to not talk about it"
Edison said he found a hundred ways to not make a lightbulb before he found one way to actually make one.
And then he says, “The probability is uncertain it’s about zero.” If you listen closely to the lying crackhead he sounds like he’s someone that huffs gasoline.
@Repent and believe in Jesus Christ so.. you think a SpaceX thread needs you to change the subject? How would you like me to alter all your religious threads to SpaceX?
Elon giving the tour feels like its also a chance for himself to take in this creation. He had the "5" minutes to slow down and enjoy the view, while having a conversation with someone who is genuinely interested.
You can see that when he gets in the elevator and takes a few seconds to close his eyes and relax. I mean... his mind is busy problem solving even while he's giving the tour.
And here's Elon, head of SpaceX, Tesla, and so much more big, important stuff, standing on the top of the starship tower like a tourist, busy taking pictures with his smartphone. I just love that.

Congrats to your growth too Tim. From little self-made videos about rockets to multiple personal interviews with Elon, Beck, and others your channel has come a long way.
Came here to say this
This is the best video of all time. This was technical, philosophical and overall view of the Starbase especially interviewing Elon up in the launch tower. Fantastic
This video is phenomenal. Perfect.
The silence and quiet parts of the video are really important, and I love that there are no cuts. It feels so much more real.
Thank you so much Tim.
It's perfect, just like hyperloop!
convert the quiet parts to asking the guys around Elon who they are, how they got there, how they built this, who builds it. Show more of the staff 😀✌️
Well they are doing what i would do, just enjoying the view, there is no need to say anything
Imagine someone watching this video in a hundred years and saying, "This is where it all started". Elon may very well be the Zefram Cochrane of our age. The continuation and survival of humanity must have an escape hatch, just in case.
Lol it makes it even more cringey

I just rewatched this video, and I just realized how awesome the last shot of Elon is. Hes walking away into the distance while your music plays. That feels like a movie ending!

It's because Tim actually bothered to learn a bit about the subject matter, allowing him to ask genuinely interesting questions.

"Can we go up in the tower?" . When you said those words, you had no idea what magic would unfurl up there. Great stuff Tim!!
I love that you just asked for what you wanted. For instance, when you said, “can we go up in the tower?” I feel as though people are sometimes intimidated by Elon’s slow/thoughtful responses. Great video and series.
Nothing ventured, nothing gained permeates this local
Then Elon asked someone, “can we?”
@@harmonicajohn1059, I also really liked that. Despite the fact that he is the richest person in the world and the CEO, he still asks politely.

Big fan of Space X and Elon. Elon has this weird mix of child-like wonder, engineering brilliance, determination, and work ethic that drive this deal. Fascinating guy.
I’m convinced everyone who hates on Elon just hasn’t seen stuff like this. It’s so inspiring. You get the sense he’s never actually been up there, cause he’s been so busy working on it, he hasn’t even enjoyed the cool parts of his work.
Much respect to this man.
Maxwell,
Agree about the Elon haters. Its knee jerk and mindless hatred because he is a billionaire and has Defense Contracts. I have so many friends who call him ‘evil’ without understanding what his goals are or that he doesn’t particularly care about money - he seems to see money as a resource for getting things done. And Elon is doing more to make our species multi-planetary than anyone else alive.
I mean, I appreciate his brilliance. Plus a lot of what he is doing is really cool and important like Tesla and all of its electric charging infrastructure. But then the man goes and starts a flame war on Twitter or decides to waste $40 billion *buying* it, and all I can think is 🤦🏼♂️. So I have mixed feelings about him personally.
@@RryhhbfrHhgdHhgd356 so you’re giving him credit for all the amazing things he’s doing but you’re mad because he spent $21 million of his own money on acquiring twitter? Who are you to say what he can and can’t spend his money on? It’s not like he’s spent $21 million on weapons manufacturing or supporting fucked up population control ideas like bill gates. He only bought twitter aha😂 what gives you mixed feeling about that 😂😂
@@BolivGaming I wouldn’t have blinked at $21 million. It was $21 *billion*. I’ll I can think of is everything else that sort of money could have been used for. Enough EV chargers for the electrification of the entire United States car population perhaps? Gigawatts of renewable energy? Anything, anything other than… Twitter…
@@RryhhbfrHhgdHhgd356 aha yes I meant $21 billion haha I see where you’re coming from, however Elon musk is not responsible for improving the electrical infrastructure across the the USA, what he has done has created the demand for such infrastructure with his electric vehicles, forcing firms and the government to supply such stations. He understands how economics works, and how free markets dictate that supply=demand. Infrastructure of electrics and talks renewables, are becoming ever more present because of Teslas shakeup of the automotive world. What Elon does is shocks the system into change, and he will continue to do so. Regard twitter, I think he was fed up with the censorship that was going on with the platform, and the bots that roam the twitter biome. I think it is quite an important problem to address, considering the lack of freedom of speech currently, on massive social media platforms such as twitter.

I like that even Elon is surprised at how beautiful it is at the top; and starts taking pictures himself. :)
He's human.
It seems that this may have been Elon's first time to go up the elevator.
He has probably not a lot of time to do such things like going up there.
He's thinking to himself, "Hey, this is really cool up here." If I was Elon, I'd have a little space set up for myself up there. THIS is where I go when I need to get away from people and think. Hell, I'd have a toilet up there.......FOR SURE.

Agreed. When seeing many videos from Boeing, ULA, etc, seeing a lot of old engineers and operators (most of them are over 45 years old or olders). I did respect the experience but they should use it wisely for quality control, not for designing/creating and problem-solving.

Thank you for sharing this fabulous piece of equipment and the view with us 🎉❤
Elon can tell you every detail about the whole facility, but it looks like this is the first time he's taken 5minutes to go to the top and just look out. That dude is focused!
Exactly. I just commented basically the same thing. You can tell he's never had the time to just stop and appreciate
the same
Yep it's obviously his first time up there. Very cool. I bet his team is tremendously proud.
Or he's afraid of heights
This is absolutely incredible! Absolutely the best tour guide ever and the best interviewer ever for this job. Thank you so much.
Just fantastic to get personal one on one with Elon and friendly conversation and a nice walk around Boca chica
Fantastic video! An excellent insight into their rapid uptake of the hardware and construction. With my fear of heights…..NO WAY would you get me up that tower! 😂
Best line of all time: Here at SpaceX, we turn the impossible into the late.
"Success is ONE of the possible outcomes!" -Elon Musk... i want that on a shirt!
Surely already out there
I love how the last thing he says is "I went to Harry Potter Land alot." and they just fade away from that XD
Wow! This is absolutely the very definition of "thinking ahead of time". ❤❤❤
To be honest, starting at 12:40 just feels like I'm playing a game. Just incredible to see this sequence. Thanks Tim!
ayo, I would play SpaceX elevator sim! :)
@@TheSandell Would be a shame not to include a co-op mode.
great elon you don't know how much you have motivated youngsters to work more harder
just like contra strike finish a mission 😂😂😂
That atmosphere on top of the tower was insane. Being there with Elon is like you suddenly occurred in the front of all the humanity and there is nothing left that would be more innovative in spaceflight, you have to create it, push it forward. I guess that's what these guys feel every day when they get back to work...
Fantastic, congratulations on everything you are doing.
Thank You for sharing! -MIND BLOWINGLY COOL!
During one of the scenes on the tower it suddenly dawned on me that this is maybe the exact moment that will be remembered as the start of our journey to the stars and beyond. This moment there with Tim Dodd and Elon Musk when the sun was setting on good old earth and Mars was only a few years away. Thank you for this historic moment!
Elon Musk is a con artist who can’t even design a car tunnel without screwing it up. Stop worshipping him.
@@killgriffinnow I don't know where your hostility is coming from but I understand that from a certain perspective it seems like I put a halo on the person. I don't want to worship Elon Musk but celebrate the moment where things become reality that some of our grandfathers could only dream about. That's all. Thanks for the feedback anyway :)
@@nikreichel2232 Elon Musk is a fraud lol.
I can hardly believe that this is real. Catching a rocket seems so insane but the engineering must say it can be done. I remember when landing the rockets was considered insane, now its just normal. Even Elon thinks its unbelievable.
It's not real... This is all fake... Trust your gut... We all have ability to see the truth.. You need to trust God and stop trusting man.
I can see it, it's a logical idea. However, the more moving parts there are, the more likely it is to fail...
Moreover, to have the courage to design & build it 💪 is awsome - personally, I believe it has a good chance of success 🚀
Atb Gus 👍
I love how everybody there seems to love work
Awesome UA-cam. Well done 👍🏻. Very informative
Amazing to hear what Elon thinks about while at the top of the tower. So much genius paired with a childlike wonder.
"with a childlike wonder" Thank You!!! I had not been able to articulate that 'difference' in Musk's approach to the world, but that captures it. To a child, everything is fascinating and nothing is impossible.
Society unintentionally beats that curiosity and wonder out of kids by the time they graduate from high school..... Somehow Elon escaped that and humanity is better off for it.

I like how starship also has short term goal and deadline in taking starlink 2 to orbit; it really helps keep everyone focussed on stepping stones to get it working and not feel the big goal of space travel to Mars is too far out of reach. Interesting how they’ve bet the launch delivery mechanism of starlink 2 on starship - there’s no back up of falcon 9. Starship has to work.
I'd love a Falcon9 back up for an audacious Mars Dragon. Elon would probably say that's a daft idea, but I'd prefer to traverse Mars by Dragon, as opposed to the Cybertruk
soooo refreshing to not have to listen to a constant narrator. So Well done Tim!!!!!
Really nice build. Worth the watch.
