FEIT LED String lights left me in the dark

- Bought a string of Feit LED lights thinking it would be an easy install project. All went well until we turned on the power strip. See if these are worth the trouble of buying.

Thank you! I’m so glad I found your video. I hung these lights last night and none of them turned on. You saved me a return to Costco.
Saved you not only a trip but the additional hundred or so dollars you would have spent there. lol
Glad the video help you out.
Same for me!
@@jerikaeasterling4079 Happy to hear the video also worked for you. Thanks for watching.
Same exact problem. Poor design when you have to go back and bend every single tab to get them to work! Thanks again!
@@kylehardman6458 Certainly not what one expects when buying this set. Glad the video helped you out.
Exact same experience as the others. Not a single bulb worked but after I saw this I went in and lifted each contact and now they all work. I never would have guessed that every single one had the same problem. (And I just did it with my fingers, didn't have the tool.) Thank you!
Perhaps this video has enabled them not to address this issue. Its been almost two years since my purchase and they're still selling them with the defect. Glad the video saved you from returning them and that you can enjoy the lights. Thanks for sharing your experience.
I'm here because I ran into this same problem from Feit Electronics. Almost 4 years after you posted it! And that cheap-ass co is STILL manufacturing faulty products & not testing them! I got mine on Amazon. Where, incidentally, pages & pages of commenters ran into the same problem--going back to 2019 as well. And so this co KNOWS there's an issue. And yet, they REFUSE to employ quality assurance! And what are they doing w/their ill-gotten gains? Well, for one thing, the internets showed me they started a fund to help infertile couples afford fertility treatments. How good of them. Anyway, thank you SO MUCH for walking us through how to fix them, CFL Driven! Keep up the good work.
I was dreading taking down the string of lights since none of them were working. I'm sooo happy to find your video...worked like a charm:) Thank you!
Tara, Not a single one? Wow, usually you get a few that come on. Regardless delighted you found this video and that it helped you to get them all working.
Not even one...at first I thought it was an electrical issue, but followed your advice and got them all working!!
@@taram3567 Congrats on getting them to work and thank you for watching the video.
Just returned my first set to Costco, and same thing with the second set. No lights worked. Glad to find your video, now I’m good. Thanks!!!
Hard to believe this is still an ongoing issue and that Costco hasn't pulled the product. Thank you for sharing.
I bought 2 string lights and none of the sockets worked. Your video saved me a trip back to Costco. Thanks for sharing this valuable info!
Glad the video helped brighten your day. Hard to believe you had two sets with no working lights. Feit quality control seems to be getting worse since the making of this video. Thanks for watching.
Wow, I was going crazy trying to determine why none of the bulbs would light up. Then you came to the rescue. My wife will probably be made when she finds out that I used her dental pick to pull the contacts up. Feit should send you a check for all of the returns that you prevented them from getting. Thank you my friend.
You may wanna get the wife a nice dental pick as a stocking stuffer. Glad the video helped out and thanks for watching.
Thanks for this video. I put a screw in each light hanger and moved the ladder to climb up for each light. When NO lights worked, I was so sad. Then I found your video and went to each bulb and got them working. Thanks so much.
Sure does feel great when they do work, glad the video helped you out. Thanks for watching.
Omg I had to do that to all 24 bulbs. Unreal. Thank you for the video. Saved me a trip back to Costco.
The good news is they should continue working for a long time. Thanks for watching.
I had exactly same issue with the lights. Thanks for this solution! By the way, you don't even need a tool to fix the problem. Just make sure the light string is not plugged in, put your index finger inside each bulb holder and pull up the little copper clip at the bottom, just slightly. Then it works!
Yes this approach works unless you have large fingers, like me, or can't get your nail underneath the clip. Always good to have options, thank you for sharing and watching.
None of my lights worked! I left it plugged in and tightened until each one turned on. Thanks for the video... I never would have thought that!
Thanks for sharing your experience. Once you get them working there shouldn't be any further issues with the LED string.
Thanks Jessica! I tightened all mine till they almost felt too tight for comfort and that’s what made them turn on!!!
Thank you SO much for sharing this video!! I was ready to give up on mine from Menards and then I searched and found your video!! I had to screw them very tight to get them to turn on! Now they work and look amazing and I have a 5 year warranty on them
Interesting to hear it not just the Feit LEDs from Costco that have this issue. Delighted the video helped you and your right they do look great. Thank your for the feedback.
I had an entire strand and a half not working! This did the trick. Thanks!
Good to hear the video is still helping.
Best advice I have ever received....You need an award body!!! Thank you and God bless you.
Don't need an award, your thanks and maybe a subscription is plenty. Glad the video helped you out.
As a kid I worked with my father who was a contractor, and he taught me that I should never "force" anything. A product that has been designed and manufactured correctly should fit, a piece of lumber or metal that has been measured and cut correctly should fit, never overtighten screws or nuts, etc. I took that into account when Feit's instructions told me to screw the bulbs in "tightly." Not a single one of them worked, so I went against everything my father taught me and forced the bulbs in even tighter. They finally worked.
I would say that Feit just needs to emphasize that the bulbs have to be screwed in tightly, but if the design and manufacture was better in the first place this wouldn't be necessary. Thank you, cfldriven, for the tip on extending the hot contacts!
I agree that you shouldn't have to force the bulb tighter then what is considered normal, increased risk of damaging component or injury. Since the posting this two years ago, Feit has yet to modify there design. Thanks for sharing your experience.
Thanks this helped! Honestly, you have time REALLY tighten those bulbs. Like make sure you tighten them ALL the way and pull the pins out like he did in order for them to turn on
Good to hear the video helped you out. Thanks for sharing.
You really only need to pull the connection tabs out, and screw in the bulbs until you feel it connect or the bulb turns on. Screwing too tightly is what flattens out the connection tab not only for Feit, but for any light socket.
Thank you SO much! We just set up our lights and zero lit up. We followed your advice and now they’re working perfectly.
Glad to hear this part of 2020 got a little brighter for you. Thanks for taking the time to watch.
Thank you! I would have never thought of this.
Liz, I was desperate not to drive all the way back to Costco so I explored solutions. Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment.
Thank you so much for this tip, I bought a set and had to return it,since it won’t turn on regardless what I tried with outlets. The second one sure enough with the same problem. With your helpful tip, it magically works! You saved me lots of agony and energy. Truly truly appreciate your help!
Thank you for sharing your experience glad to hear this video helped solve the problem for you, too bad after all this time and probably hundreds of returns Feit has not fixed the problem.
I too had 24 dead lights. The dental pick worked great. 100% success. Thank you.
The good news is we have not had any issues with these lights after addressing this issue. Glad the video helped and thanks for watching.
Thank you for posting this video it helped us big time...we did not have to return the lights after watching and reading the comments...we have to thithen up the lights until we heard a little pop
Glad the video saved you from having to return these lights. And thank you for sharing about the pop sound, while I never noticed that it may be helpful for others.
Thank you so much for posting this. I just hung two sets of these and 4 bulbs worked! Their website has no true troubleshooting information and was going to take them all down and return them. Seriously thank you so much
And for the price and simplicity of the device they should work. FEIT just doesn't have quality control or doesn't care.
Thank you for sharing your experience and for watching.
Thank you a lot!! I totally agree with other commenters. You saved me 2 hours back and forth to Costco and all the agony goes with that. Thanks for doing works for others!
Good to hear the video helped you out and saved you another trip, thus avoiding the temptation of the free Costco samples. Thanks for watching.
Since they are made for outdoor, I saw another video where a gentleman said you need to tightly screw it in so it's made water proof (kinda) to withstand outdoor weather. They won't break if you try to be a bit mean while tightening the screw.
While the bulbs should be firmly seated, they are not water proof, that did not work for all of my bulbs. I would same if the bulbs are firmly in, then try the solution in the video. Thank you for sharing.
Excellent job explaining this! I was about to get panicked because not one of my lights worked! I’ll just have to go one at a time
Thanks for the kind feedback. Wish Feit would address the issue, it has been two years since I got mine. At least they continue working after fixing them. Thanks for the view.
I had the same exact problem. About half the bulbs lit up. I did the same thing you did to bend up the contact in the socket. Thanks
Making the country brighter one bulb at a time. Thanks for sharing and watching.
For people who are using this outdoor. Don't pry the connector up. You're supposed to tighten the bulb more so the outer seal sits firmly on the bulb so water does not go in. It's supposed to be easy to install.
Well in my case the bulbs were tighten all the way and it was only after prying the contact up that it finally worked. Also prying the contact up won't effect how firmly it sits in the socket.
Sometimes you have to pry them up, period. With mine, some of the connectors were sitting a lot flatter down in the bottom of the socket than others, nearly flush with the base. Yes, it's supposed to be easy to install but there are definitely times that the connectors are not positioned correctly either.
Thank you for your video! I had the same issue that NONE of the lights worked. After we watched the video we were able to get them all working.
I just hung up mine and none of the bulbs worked I did what u did and sure enough they are all on thanks a bunch save me lots of time and taking them back exchanging them for more that don’t work appreciate the video
I still can't believe Costco hasn't gotten on Feit case about this issue. Glad to hear it resolved your issue. I wonder if the new color sets will have the same issue? Thanks for watching.
Thank you, thank you, thank you. What everyone else said. Setting them up just now for 4th of July tomorrow. We will be staying home and decided to light up our patio. We would have been left in the dark too, if it wasn't for your video.
Well, glad the video could brighten your 4th of July. Stay safe and thanks for watching.
Bought some Hampton Bay x2. Both boxes didn’t work. Tried your suggestion and voila! Thanks for saving me a mad trip back. 👌🏼
I wonder if the Hampton Bay is just a rebranded Feit? Good to hear the solution also works on other brands. Thanks for watching.
Thank you for your guidance! All of them were out and with my finger tip problem solved. Thanks to you.
As long as the string is unplugged and you don't have fat fingers like me, you can use your finger tip. Thanks for watching.
Protip: test your string lights before hanging. Plug in a wall outlet, run the string across the floor or whatever, make sure every bulb lights before hanging. Why would you hang the lights without testing them first? Also the side of the rubber eraser on the end of a #2 pencil is a better tool to lift the metal tabs.
Thanks for sharing these practical pro-tips. Recently did just that with some LED tape light before installation. Thank you.
They owe you a check for producing this crucial resource.
That would be nice. lol
Since I made the video they haven't bothered to fix the problem. Thanks for watching.
Purchased two strings. One bulb worked. Very disappointing. I am going to try this solution. Thank you!
Share how it goes, btw some have had success by given the bulb an extra twist. I was concerned about damaging the bulb or socket and thus ended up with the solution in this video. Best of luck.
Bought a string of 12. Came with one extra bulb. Only 7 worked. Will try this fix. Thanks!
Curious to know if our fix helped you with the 5 other bulbs.
Oh my Gosh. We hung up all our lights (2 sets) and sure enough. The second set didn’t work. Saw ur vid and was kinda depressed cuz it took like an hour to hang them, but sure enough. Your video fixed them. 1 down, 47 to go.
I wish they had just built them correctly, but am glad the video helped you out.
cfldriven it was our third set. I could tell though that it was used before, the lights were all tangled and one of the sockets even had a red gum like thing underneath the gold piece. Ironically, that was the one light that did work out of the box.
Thank you very much for posting the video. It saved me a return item trip to the Costco!
Glad we could save you a return trip and you got your lights working. Thanks for the viewing.
Thanks for the info. I have a similar problem but I switched from regular incandescent bulbs to LED. I'll try out your technique and let you know.
Wishing you much success. Thanks for watching.
Saved me a trip (probably multiple trips) to the store! Many thanks!
Good to hear the video was helpful. thanks for watching
You are definitely on the "love" side of my love-hate relationship with the Internet. Thank you so much for posting this! Like Nicholas, I was about to take them down and take them back (four lights were not working). It only took me two minutes to get them all lighted with your helpful hint.
Glad we could help light the way for you. Too bad FEIT doesn't care enough to build them correctly. Thank you for the feedback.
Excellent. Thanks for doing this! Saved me a bunch of time!
Sorry to hear that three years later Feit has not resolved this issue. Glad the video helped you out and thanks for watching.
Thank YOU!! This video is the only reason we didn’t storm back into CostCo irritated and upset.
You're welcome, glad you found this video and that it helped.
Our closes Costco is 50 miles away so like you I was irritated when it first didn't work. Wish Costco would get after Feit for making such a faulty device. Thanks for watching.
Wow, we just have a second box exchanged because both don’t light at all.Im gonna try this tomorrow, was going to return it. The brand doesn’t make good quality, we also got an outdoor table it was so difficult to even screw in. Thank you for this info
Apparently FEIT doesn't care because a year after this video was made they are still selling these defective sets. Thank you for sharing your experience. Hope this solution works for you.
You just saved these companies a lot in returns
LOL, probably why they haven't done anything in over two years.
thank you! we tightened them MORE than we thought.. and BOOM they all came on.
We were just out in our screened in porch enjoying a rain shower with our Feit lights. Once you get them working, there shouldn't be another issues. Thanks for watching.
Same here
Thanks!!! I had to do this to every single light socket. 2 sets too!!!
Glad to hear you got them working. Noticed this week one of mine went out, gave it a slight twist and it came back on.
Thank you! Had to tighter way, way more than I initially did. Tighten it as much as possible!
Good to hear you got them working. Thanks for watching.
Saved me a trip to Costco, too. Thank you.
And the cost of a barrel of pretzels. Good to hear the video helped. Thanks for the view.
Thanks! Hopefully that works for ours. Kind of bummed out but we'll look for a hook tomorrow.
According to a few of the comments some have used their finger to pull the contact inside the sockets. Of course make sure the string is unplugged before inserting anything into the socket. Don't forget to share your solution. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for posting this. Saved me a lot of grief.
Sorry to hear this light set is still causing problems. Glad you found the video and it helped. Thanks for commenting.
I had exactly the same problem! Thank you for the tip!!!!
Glad you found the video and that it helped. Thank you for watching.
Thank you! Your video was spot on. My lights weren’t coming on and now they are.
Thank you for the mention, happy the video worked for you.
This helped ...i was pissed. Im the idiot that hung them b4 testing them .....i had to do this to ALL 48 ....lol
Of course we hung them up before testing, we thought they would work. Glad you found this video and got them working without a return trip to the store.
Thank you for the tip!
Hope it helped. Thank you for watching.
I just put up mine yesterday and not even one light up I’ll try this today thank you
Can't hurt to give it a try, make sure to unplug first. Let us know how it goes.
@@cfldriven I made sure to plug it in really tight that was it it worked and I love it
@@zaraali9758 Yes they are great looking when lit up. Thanks for sharing how you got them to work and for watching.
the lights need to be screwed in very tight in order to reach the contact probably to seal them from moisture and some I had to bend up the contacts also.
I have used other outdoor lights and never had to screw them that tight or lift the contact. Still glad you got them to work. I would have returned them except for the distance. I will say after three years they are still working without any issues. Thanks for the sharing your experience.
Did anyone else read the directions? These are outdoor lights so you are supposed to screw them in tighter to make it more weatherproof. The directions in the box even say that once the bulb feels secure, continue to turn the bulbs until they light. What this guy is doing is totally unnecessary. Trashing a product because you use it wrong is not the answer...
When installed per instructions two years ago not all the lights worked. As shown in the video the hot tabt had to be moved up to contact the bottom of the bulb. I assure you all the bulbs were tightened the same and when some didn't light I did try to tighten further, which was not possible.
I find it hard to believe all the comments and views here are people having operator installation issues with this product. I have installed other outdoor lights and none have behaved like this. I believe it to be a manufacturing issue which Feit has yet to address.
This video is not about trashing the product as we are very happy with it, and to imply that people are using it wrong misrepresents the facts.
Thank you for sharing and for watching.
@@cfldriven I think the vast majority of people having issues with these must not read the directions where it says to continue to tighten. I'll admit that it felt weird to continue tightening but it worked just as they instructed
@@danrice19803 Delighted to hear that it worked for you and others, but that has not been the case for everyone.
You saved my marriage. These effing lights had fixed their dim blank stares on the final nail in our community property coffin. You've helped others set ambiance not alimony payments, something to think about scribbling on the tombstone of your distant future. But church it up a little.
Hands down the most interesting comment I have ever gotten. Hope your marriage outlast the LED lights.
I had a few that required a slight additional twist to make contact. This must have been a common problem, the instructions say to twist any non lighting bulbs. I also use dielectric grease on the threads of every bulb, just a dab, allows a bit of additional twist. Still, you shouldn't have to do this on a brand new product.
I agree they should all work straight out of the box without additional steps. Thanks for sharing.
All my bulbs work, but they seem to flicker and are driving me crazy! Anyone have issues with this or know how to fix it? I'd hate to return all 2 boxes.
It happened to me 20 out of 24 lights. Great tip!!!
It seems to be a reoccurring problem and yet they don't do anything to correct it. Glad to hear you got your lights working. Thanks for sharing.
BLESS UP THANK YOU SO MUCH
And thank you for watching.
Great video! Thank you!!!
Thank you Kelly for the comment. Hope the video helped.
Thank you, this helped me a lot, I had to fix 20 of them.
Glad you found this video to help you out. Thanks for the view.
Ah, nuts. I came here hoping there was some other trick I didn't know about, but I guess not. I got a light string at Home Despot which is nearly identical (48' long, 24 LED bulbs, cord looks exactly the same) but labeled as the brand "Hampton Bay." I already knew about these techniques so I went in and lifted all the tabs a little bit before I even started - it was easy enough to do just with my finger, but that might not work for larger hands. I put the bulbs in one by one, screwed them in tightly and plugged it in but nothing happened, not a single one of them lit up. I went through the entire set again, taking each bulb out and pulling the tab up further and screwing them in ever more tightly but that didn't make any difference. I've done that at least six times now, going through the entire string and checking each one including the wiring, bases and sockets for foreign material or damages and still cannot get a single one to light up. I will go ahead and try it once more by lifting the tabs as high and screwing the bulbs in as tightly as I dare. If that causes something to break I'm sure it must've been faulty to begin with, but I just really hope I can get it to work this time. I didn't buy mine from Costco because so many people reported these problems with them, but so far I cannot say that this brand is any better.
I wonder if Feit makes them for Hampton Bay or is everyone buying them from the same maker? Have you tried one of the bulbs in a lamp? If it works just return the darn thing, you've already spent way too much time trying to fix something that should work out of the box. Thanks for sharing you experience.
Thank you! This was very helpful, we were surprised that our lights didn’t turn on and so glad you shared this out. Appreciate it! Lights are on now.
Glad the video helped make things a litter brighter. It does seem that once fixed they continue to work properly without any further issues. Thanks for the feedback.
All of my lights do not work. I will try what you suggest. Pat
Let us know how it goes. Thanks for watching.
Wow none of mine work either. I will try this first before returning.Feit electric should pay you for this video!
Let us know how it goes. Just happy the video is helping people.
Fixed my lights too, thanks man!
Most welcome, glad to hear it worked for you.
What about if none of the bulbs turn on? And I switched each bulb with another string of which the bulbs works. . .
It is wired so that one bad bulb won't stop the others from working. If brand new just return it. Otherwise if you have tried the technique in video without success, I would inspect the plug and wiring for damage. Hope this helps.
Mine all worked yesterday and today none of them did. They are C9 bulbs. Any ideas? I checked the breaker and everything is good.
Did you try a different outlet? C9 bulbs are large Christmas lights that don't fit this string set.
Thank you very much friend!
Well, you are certainly most welcome. I hope it was able to help. Thank you for watching.
Amazing advise . Thank you ☺️
Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment.
I wish I could give you 100 likes. You saved so much trouble for me.
Glad we could brighten your day. Thanks for watching.
I have one that is not working, when I test it, both sides are showing as hot. Is there a way to correct and close the circuit so the light will come on? The one before and after it are working. Thanks in advance.
If you are not getting any voltage or continuity on one fixture with voltmeter it could be a break with the wires coming down to the fixture. Although not meant to be repaired, you could cut the wire and get a pigtail and attach. I know it would look awful and no guarantee it would work as the break could be above where you cut. I would either return it, live with it or replace the set.
@@cfldriven thank you!
I had the same problem my solution was really tightening the bulbs
In some cases, like yours, that all it takes. Thanks for sharing your solution and for watching.

Glad we could shed some light on the issue. Thanks for watching.
Every time I plug them in it causes my breaker to trip 😅
That sounds like something is shorting out. I would return it since you paid for a working product.
AMAZING
Thanks for watching
I thought you might use cable pea-clips in between the hooks to the wire to make it look neat It looks a mess
While P clips would certainly have been one of many options, at the time I had the brass hooks laying around. Been almost a year since they were installed and don't even notice the hooks. Thank you for sharing about P clips.
Be smarter than this guy and test the whole set before installing !
LOL, who would have thought they wouldn't work? You are right just like Christmas lights check before installing.
Very helpful!
Thank you.

And behold you had light. Thanks for watching.
Genius
Thanks.
THANK YOU !!! it worked !!
DeLIGHTED to hear that, thanks for commenting.
Hi. Can i leave them outdoors permanentely?
They are designed for indoor and outdoor use, even in wet locations. Ours have been up for going on two years. You may need to wipe the bulbs clean every now and then. Thanks for watching.
@@cfldriven thankyou very much forma answering! 😀💡💡💡💡
@@gcamc702 Absolutely, enjoy your lights.
Are those 7/8 inch brass cup hooks?
Timothy I have no idea, just had a bunch laying around. What I can tell you is the hole is about quarter of an inch, so I this most light weight hooks will work.
same happened to me
Sorry to hear this is still a problem, but good to know you found a solution. Thanks for watching.
Are these lights dimmable?
Don't know if these LED bulbs are dimmable, but at one watt each they are already pretty dim. These are really atmosphere lighting as opposed to task lighting.
Ard this lights dimmable?
Doesn't say on the packaging one way or the other, but at one watt per bulb the are already dim. They are really atmosphere lights and not meant to light up an area for work or reading.
cfldriven Thankyou
I tried and nothing works not even one lightbulb
So sorry to hear that. Do the Feit lights work in another fixture? Do other light bulbs work in the Feit fixture? Ever since our fix they have been working without any issues.
